Hand it off fully. But then the states would need to put tolls on the roads. Otherwise they'd just be a financial burden on the states.
Off course with toll-gate, or how else are investors going to get their money back but services on d motorway creates lots & lots of jobs.

The first task is for them to convince the FG to hands off both the Ore-Benin Express-way and the Lagos - Ibadan Express-way, I am sure with private capital and a bit of contribution from all member states they should be able to deliver a first class motorway, with eateries, restaurant, petrol Stations and motels on the motorway for the discerning traveller and for convenience.

Nothing, except unnecessary criticism for his predecessor. This man is bereft of ideas and a serial failure. huh

AND to watch the personal humiliation of Gbagbo live on t.v make u wonder what goes on in their warp mind
Talking of Gbagbo with $80 million dollars in a Swiss Bank, only to be humiliated like a common thief,  anyway he is a common thief. The problem with African leaders is greed,  Gbagbo probably thought if he can only double that $80 million dollars to say $160 million dollars it would have been a lot nicer.

I hope he is enjoying his house arrest at the moment,  he should thank his stars he was not given the ‘ Doe’ treatment.

I would not mind bringing some bendy bus to Oshun state and do a daily run of Oshogbo-Ife-Ilesha. A good co-operation between London Borough of Southwark would be in the area of parts for this bus. Aregbesola should be able to convince them to open a depot where we can source degradable parts like breaks, tyres, oil filters and so on.
If he can do this the private sector would step in and run a bus service between Oshun State’s 3 big cities of Oshogbo-Ife-Ilesha.

Lanlehin also made a case for true federalism, saying that the amount of money at the disposal of the Federal Government was too much.
The case for this growing, we would like to see more high profile politicians show their support for this cause.

Fashola twice now.
Tinubu at least once

and now Senator Lanlehin

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Assuming there is no oil buried deep down in the soil, where do we get the water?

When its planted and done, how do I control the cursed cows and other predators?

Is there any bank willing to give me the much needed loan? How do i get the herbicides, fertilizers and seedlings?

I'm not making excuses, but we need to start from the scratch, put so many things in place.Btwn, this thread wud make more sense at the business section.
250 members of the house of assembly would be getting $250 million dollars severance pay within the next 4 weeks, some of them might be wondering of what to do with all that cash hence why I posted this article in the Politics Section. The good thing about potatoe farming is you don't have to be a money bag to get started. As you can see from the article a paltry sum of about N3 million and you are in business. There is no reasons why potatoes cannot be a staple food like yam in Nigeria and we all know that there is nothing as good as food business all over the world.

Nigeria: Investing in potato farming

The developed nations are called so because of their ability to be self-reliant. The underdeveloped nations are called so because they are not self-reliant. You have hunger, malnourishment, unemployment, undernourishment, diseases and poverty prevalent in the underdeveloped nations.

To eliminate these undesirable traits in us, we must fight hunger, poverty and diseases. One of the ways of fighting these is by developing our Agricultural base. We must, as a matter of policy, produce enough food to feed ourselves. We must be able to export to earn enough foreign exchange and do a lot of other things. This is the essence of this article.

Investment justification

Potato ranks fourth as one of the important crops in the world, yielding over N80 billion for the World annually. Potato is very rich in essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It has high quality protein equivalent to that of yam. The average amount to potato protein required for maintenance of Nitrogen balance in adults is similar to the amount in an egg.

In this regard, production of potato will contribute immensely to our health care delivery system. This project will definitely increase the number of menus available in various homes. It has been known that varieties of food available to us in this part of the World are very limited. Thus, this is one of the steps to reverse this trend.

The price of food items will definitely go down.

This is because potato is a substitute to yam. Production of more potato will reduce demand for yam. This will eventually lead to fall in the price of yam.The land requirement for potato is very small. The problem of land procurement is therefore minimal.

Export market for potato is also abundant. It has been discovered that 80 percent of Nitrogen requirement for baby can be obtained from potato. 100 grams of Potato can supply 13 percent of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommended daily allowance of protein for children and up to seven per cent of allowance of adult.

Potato has a well-balanced protein-to-calorie ratio. If you eat enough potato to supply a significant amount of energy, a significant quantity of protein will also be provided. It can be processed into chips, flakes, starch and other forms. Potato can grow well in Nigeria. The seeds are also available on request.

In this vein, the project is technically feasible. In view of the social and economic benefits stated above, this project is recommended for the consideration of Nigerians.

Production technology

To establish a potato farm, we need a well-drained land. Cultivation process includes land clearing and preparation, procurement of seeds, planting, herbicide application, weeding, cultural practices and harvesting. Maturity is within six months.

Profitability

A well maintained potato farm would yield 10 tonnes per hectare. We therefore envisage 50 tonnes from five hectares. A tonne of potato sells for a minimum of N100, 000. Total revenue of about N5 million is expected from this small venture. Investors can be assisted in terms of preparation of feasibility report, procurement of seeds and other management services as related to this project by the author.

Sokoto can make a killing in the Livestock Industry as the number of malls in Nigeria increases. I see a future where majority of the populace would move from going to traditional markets to get their meat, poultry and Turkey to smaller and larger malls.

Light or power would open a whole new world of different possibilities. There is no reason why Sokoto, Borno and Yobe cannot be the richest states in the federation when we have power.

As any one thought for a second where those meats at shop-right shopping Mall come from, you think they are imported from New Zealand or South Africa. Some people need a reality check here.

If there is clear vision and determination to really serve the country, we are committed to it. We are committed to a united country; we are committed to rapid development of Nigeria, good economic recovery and constitutional democracy
knowing fully well that the sole reason ACN was able to win the States in the SW region was becoming the Party at the centre (PDP) have been grossly ineffective for twelve years?

That is more than enough to point out that there is no clear vision and determination to really serve the country from the centre, hence the resolve of the ACN to battle out the SW region and try restore it to the path of glory.

I think this man is simply just talking from both sides of his mouth.
@ Pataki, Tinubu is only talking of the status quo as it exist today. Obviously the centre is still strong as we speak and if they want him in any capacity he would have to see what is in the offering.
Politics › Re: Time To Weaken The Centre by KnowAll(op): 12:27pm On May 03, 2011
Oil palm did more for Nigeria and for much longer than cocoa and groundnuts, in fact Nigeria owes its existence 100% to oil palm. If any state cannot produce money, it doesn't deserve to exist and nobody will subsidise it.
What you just said is nothing more than blind greed.

Can you imagine Bayelsa State getting 20% derivatives, and 40% of whatever remains after derivatives have been deducted, and what is their population probably less than 2 million. Same thing for Akwa Ibom and Rivers, common greed get levels oh !! this your own greed is unfathamable, if they cannot turn themselves into dubai with that kind of money they should all be thrown into the sea OR Better still let a Yoruba man come and rule them for a while.
Politics › Re: Time To Weaken The Centre by KnowAll(op): 12:12pm On May 03, 2011
That is not true federalism, but a sham.

What we need is for each state to produce its own money and pay taxes to the centre. It is unfair on the ND to suggest that they continue to subsidise states that produce absolutely nothing; maybe even states that do not even encourage kids to go to school, but are always at the forefront of murderous riots. Should govt continue paying them to breed and riot?
I would not call it a sham, I said they should give more % of all the takens to the states, and the oil producing areas should also get more % to what they are getting at the moment that is the money accrued to oil producing states should be reviewed upwards from the current 13% to 20% derivatives.

What you are proposing is not practical in the sense that we have shared a common history since the almagamation in 1914. When Cocoa and Groundnut used to be the staple for our nation, SS and SE benefited from that largesse, now only a greedy person like u would want all oil proceeds to be given to the states producing the oil.

I am in support of given the oil states more from the proceeds but I am not in support of cutting down what Zamfara or Yobe state gets at the moment just because they are not an oil producing state.

The fact that we have shared a history for well ove 90 years is enough for them to lay claim to any revenue from our common-wealth. It is like a case of woman who is about to be divorced by a wealthy husband because the woman has been living in a peculair style irrespective of her having any source of income, she would be entitled to a large chunk of her husband's estate this is the kind of ruling most divorcee would get in most countries in the west.

We should look beyond parochialism.

We don't want people like Buhari rearing their heads every 4 years when there is a Presidential elections with their bigoted and divide and rule politics, if the money is given to the state, he can go and practise his shameful and ugly tactics in his state and let the rest of us live in peace.
Politics › Re: Time To Weaken The Centre by KnowAll(op): 11:37am On May 03, 2011
Weaken the centre, we can be 36 commonwealth nations WITH a shared history, give more money to the states, it is better we have 36 strong, financial independent Governors than have a weak, nepostic goverment in the centre. we have tried this current system for 50 years it is not working.

Fashola is clamouring for it, Tinubu is Clamouring for it, we need more people from the SS, SE and NC clamouring for the states to get more from the federation account and complete independence should be given to LG. That is LG elections should be conducted by the centre instead of the current way where State Governors conduct a complete bias elections.

I agree 100%, how long do we want to continue this politics of bitterness at the centre in which the winner takes all. Give the states the money and weaken the centre is something we have to explore vigorously. How can the FG in this day and age be in charge of secondary schools. Command schools, FG Colleges, FG Girls College, Kings College in Lagos amongst others e.t.c

This is not on.

Because Apabio dazzles his people with a few Fly-overs going to no where one should not be deceived. " Na Fly over u go chop"

1. How many large scale farm operatives has he established.

2. How many large scale industries has he established

2. Akwa Ibom has enough rainfall than any other state, they should have pine-apple plantations, orange plantations, mango plantations and they should be making pineapple fruit juice,  orange fruit juice and other mixed fruit juices with Guava, mango thereby supplying there people with jobs,  has he done so. -Capital NO

3. He built a  Golf Course in Akwa Ibom State, 99.99% of the population would not be able to use that facility. I think he is thinking of attracting the expats community working in and around EKet and other oil terminal towns. Another white elephant project initiated  just to take a cut.

4. Le Maridian Hotel in Uyo 98% f the population cannot afford to spend a night in that hotel. That Project would have cost millions of $$.

5, The state is given so much money but the man running the place is some clueless buffon, A sensible man would have turn that state around in a short while.

Naija has been the Yoruba name for Nigeria from time memorial, most Yoruba folks when talking of their country people tend to use words like " awon Niaja" which is a slang more than 55 years old because I know that slang is as old as when my old folks were studying in England in the 1950's.
It is good it has become a mainstream slang but its humble beginning by Nigerian diaspoaras in the UK in the 1950's and beyond should not be denied.

Chime might be a one Governor wonder like Donald Duke, if he does not pass the baton to a trusted hand all his good works would just go up in smoke especially when a new Governor starts screaming blue-murder. So I would not really rate him above Fashola, the Lagos experiment is a winning experiment. Eko Atlantic City would be ready by 2030. That is 19 years from now, all the Good works of Fashola would be meaningless if we are to have a stream of bad Governors between 2015 and 2030, so the system where one of the guys in the present regime would make the visions of past administrators become a reality is a good system and should be encouraged to its logical end.

Saraki has borrowed a leaf from Lagos and I foresee growth in all indices in Kwara State.
Politics › Re: Fashola Vs Chime Vs Amaechi Vs Akpabio(who Is The Best Governor In Nigeria) by KnowAll(m): 7:29pm On May 01, 2011
Amechi and Apabio should cover their faces in shame. Should any Nigerian be looking for greener pasture outside Nigeria when you have a state with a very small population getting so much by way of derivative and nothing to show for.

Give me those two states and in 12 months time come and see el-dorado emerge on the shores of Naija, those guys are failures. In a free and fair election I think the ACN would have trounced that dunce in Akwa Ibom State and given Amechi a run for his money.

I am impressed by Chime thus, what made me more appreciative of this young man was his recent spat with the press that he would not be seeking elected office after his second term in office, well I would implore Enugu citizens to watch him carefully in his second term, is he for real? does he hope to continue what he has started and with the same enthusiasm and vigour if the answers to all these questions is yes then he is rare gem and we should strive as a nation to see more people like him come forward.

Come to think of it, all those Senators and Reps men and ex Governors who are yesterday's men what have they done with all the money they were paid and the deals they cut when they were at the realm of affairs. It is shame to note that all these callous people called our leaders have no cottage industries whatsoever in their towns and villages they seem to be political jobbers always on the look out for next looting jamboree.

Fashola on the other hand has increased the IGR  of the state astronomically although this positive, inspirational and untapped revenue generational scheme  cannot be put solely on Fashola's shoulders,  the genesis and the zeal for this kind of income re-generation was pushed forward by no other person than Tinubu, well their is a saying "necessity is the mother of invention", Fashola has however moved the income stream generated through IGR into the stratosphere. Kudos to Fashola for catching the vision of his mentorer.

I think continuum in administration in Lagos State is bearing fruits, I believe Fashola would have a say on who he passes the baton to and the input of Tinubu would be minimal, you may beg to differ with me on this, but that is the right way for Lagos State if they want to see most of their grandiose projects come to fruition.

Eko Atlantic City needs a visionary who shares Fashola's dreams, the various Train Lines planned for Lagos in the future which on the last count was about 6  or 8 diffrent lines would need a visionary who shares Fashola's dreams, the greatest de-incentive a state can do to her self is breaking away from a winning formula and start forging ahead in a different direction that is not only self inflicting but it destroys the good works of past and well rounded administrators.

Donald Duke in Cross River State is a classic example where a different administrator upon becoming the Governor started  pursuing a different agenda. we don't need that in Lagos State or the SW states of course if any of the newly elected Governors are performing below expectation they should be kicked out without hesitation.

I see him running, 4 years from now is like tomorrow, after GEJ's first year, by 2013 Politicians would start strategising for 2015 and I cannot see Buhari sitting on the fence just watching proceedings when he has the highest hope of grasping power, since the incumbent has said he would not be running in 2015, 2015 is a free for all any bagger is welcome.
