Nairaland GeneralRe: Mention One Mistake You Made That Cost You Alot In Life. by komodapson(m): 11:51pm On Dec 14, 2021
What seems (because i'm still not sure) to be one my Greatest mistake was aborting a Pregnancy my Girl friend had for me 17years ago. I was a young , bloody undergraduate, 300level.

She called to inform me about her pregnancy, it was already ( x )months and was 4 days to second semester exam.
My heart left my mouth on this day, I was like... "Why are you just telling me" - her response was
"I don't know what to do, she cried profusely in front of Queens Hall, drop of her tears doused my white T-shirt as I drew her closer. My heartbeat revved up, only God knows my bp then... I became quiet, like a stream.

I said ehn ehn..."I noticed you haven't been attending lectures , but I thought it was just one or two" , sleeping all through, she has added weight...
I was like "Ah!!!...
(I was naive , bereft of ideas...)
I said to her, what should we do?
She kept on saying " I don't know"

I said to her, don't worry ...we parted ways that evening..I couldn't attend all night tutorials, I was lost in thought.

I couldn't go back to my BQ then, sat in front of kuti hall...thinking...
I later slept in a friends room, couldn't tell him mehn!!!
Fast forward to following morning, picked up my ATM, withdrew all my savings about N86k then, put all cash in knapsack bag.

7.15a.m or so, I called her..
me:hello girl, how are you?
Gf: I'm fine
Me: get dressed, I'm coming now
Gf: Alright

Chartered a cabby to mokola....she kept on crying, I can't say stop crying... I was dumb..looking like òdé..mumu.

Got to mokola, Checked her into Scan center...waited for result ..the result came showing expected date of delivery, a boy...blablabla
I couldn't interprete the scanned result....I remember the doctor asking me.."is she your wife? I said yes....
(Omo!!! Boy don dey vomit tey tey o)
She held my arm closely like...

The doctor said: Congratulations, she's going to deliver so so so month (expectedly)
Scan shows a boy, doing well blablabla
...still I was looking like an idiot...lol
The doctor reel out dos and don't... All sounded like terms and conditions to my hears...lmao

He presented the scan result like a certificate to me...called another cabby, I told him to take us to nice restaurants around first, we went on top mokola hill... She couldn't eat, I asked her to eat something... Then I never realized the mood swing, picky nature and loss of appetite are signs or unusual behavior of pregnant women...

This period, my confidence has started to grow, I became bold ...thinking - "what's the worst thing that could happen"

(still yet to figure what next to do o)

Finished at restaurant, cab man dropped us in front of Agbowo... Took a campus cab to her hall and I said we'll see later in the evening.

My Friends don call tire...asking
Won't you come for tutorials?
Where are you guy?
You dey Kenneth dike ní?

Mtcheeew...."For my mind, I was like "f*ck you all "
Sitting quietly inside, brought out the scan result...i was gazing at it like an exam paper..
My Gf called - I didn't pickup
After few hours, I later called back - she asked me how I was doing? I replied cool...blablabla
"We go see in the evening"

Evening came...it was already past 9p.m entry closed for visitation to female hostel. Called her out...and ask her how she was feeling? She said dizzy... I said did anyone knew about what's happening to you? She said No one.

I said to her, that cold windy evening.."what should we do"
(For me, I'm ready for the worst - even though I don't know what the worst entails grin)
We both became calm for like 12mins and she replied?
I want an abortion

I was like - "Eh"...I opened my mouth wide...couldn't close it.
But, this time around... She was no longer weeping, looking fierce, determined...
I brought out the scan paper - tucked inside my jean key pocket(small pocket) , wrapped like rizler...

I checked the months again, as if I wasn't told last time at hospital... My heart went gaga...I retraced back to my O'level biology in which I was good at, and I had A3 grin
My mind was telling me is no longer possible, science was telling me otherwise... I didn't think about 3rd option - " Death"...

I asked her...3times the way peter was asked...Are you sure? She said YES...

This period, my alcohol consumption went overboard, above threshold...
Withdrew away from buddies, and became solitary...couldn't study, study ké

Fast forward ..exam don start...sat for my first paper... That paper that day, I knew I don fail, no how...it was a 4unit course....submitted and dashed out of exam hall...

She was of social sciences and had 6 papers only to sit for, being second semester.
Fast forward to Friday, No exam for both parties... Call cabby...went to mokola, this time around not the first hospital... I said she should sit inside MR BIGGS, bought her pastries.... She asked me where i was going? I said i'm coming.....walked round aimlessly, couldn't visit alaafia hospital... I knew kasala go burst, if i did...'cos i could be arrested and they can't be involved in such unwholesome practice....

Out of blues, I saw a newly painted maternity clinic...climbed the stairs ,walked up to a young beautiful nurse... The clinic is new with touch of class. I crave for her indulgence, she obliged... I narrated the whole story , everything to her "in-to-to"...no subtraction/no addition...

Nurse was calm and looking confused as well.
She has no answer to give, rather than to tell me to wait and see the doctor gynaecologist. Met, Young doctor as well, an alumnus. Narrated everything, he asked steps have taken...I said none aside scan...she requested for result, looked at it and kept asking varying degree of questions - course of study, age, my plans, love life , genotype every every...both relevant and irrelevant...

Later, he said where is the lady...I said she's close by...he said I should go and call her...I went to pick her, she was already asleep..awww

She asked me subtly " where have you being? I said i went to look for a clinic, and the doctor wants to see you...

In doctors office...he talked to us gently and calm...telling us the good, bad and ugly...that we shouldn't carry out an abortion. He gave several advice, but he realized my GF is hell bent on it from her looks. He later asked us to go and sit outside after several hours, and she called in one of the nurses into his office. Perhaps for discussion.

Later...he called us in, and he obliged to do it. I was indifferent, but the expression on my GF face was that of relief.
So he(doctor) said, the fee was N30,000, we should come back following morning.....listed some drugs to buy aside fee...I no even negotiate am...

But the doctor said something which struck me..."he said we should ensure we sleep with each other tonight, its very important "...he said so without even smiling, looking serious...

I couldn't ask why...I was like, me wey my sexual urge don dry, looking unkempt without focus....
collected one of nurses phone number...
We left....

Got back to my BQ, already late in evening. She said she wanted to eat something spicey like spiced meat, took a bike to black market and get some. Came back, my babe ate some...I no fit chew anything sef, all appetite gone. Just walked into bathroom to have a shower...

Later...babe said " how about what doctor told us to do"
I was like what? She said we should make love now...I just switched on the fan and covered myself with duvet without uttering a word.

Few hours later, we sha do am, with long hours before I could get an erection. grin

Saturday morning , called the nurse and she said we should come. Got to clinic....Sat, waited for the doctor... She checked in, I was praying within me- grin - Only God knows who I was praying too... 3-4 hours later, I was told everything has been done by the nurse, but she can't go now. My heart skip a beat, I imaging nollywood movies how doctors and nurses do play gimmick and later say ..I'm sorry...lol

Thank God ....It was Successful...

Went to pick her up Sunday evening... Looking tired...none of us were even bothered about exam...Ah! This life....

Exam Result came out next session... I failed in flying colors, had 3 carry overs...CGPA dropped from second class upper to lower...
For her, she managed to scale through, scored 40s - 50s being social sciences.

Fast forward 2 sessions after..babe graduated... Guy had an extra year... Babe went for service...Guy struggled, couldn't make up for loss marks, settled for second class lower...

Babe Got a job with a Brewery, well paid.... Guy man was still struggling... Babe wanted to get married, she was pressured, extreme pressure... Guy man yet to distinguish her left hand from right yet, no finance...still squatting... I later withdrew from her due to her undue pressure...

Later babe got married to another man who is ready, relocated to the States.
Guy man attended interviews upon interviews, later sha got a Job with a dairy company.

Babe and guy later reconnected on social media...WhatsApp and all... $X babe keep sending to guyman at all times

Fast forward to 2020... Babe shipped two cars to Guy man, one to be sold and refund the money to ship another and the other as a gift...

22nd of December, babe would be coming to Nigeria provided all travel retriction are lifted...

Indriver would take over the market if only they brought up their rates a bit...right now they think it's their rock bottom fares that give them a competitive edge, but they are only cruising on the desperation of partners driving rented cars.

With naira in free-fall the real owners of such cars will eventually realise they aren't making money. It's just a matter of time.
Let's have an intellectual discussion about these two platforms. note: intellectual discussion not an Argument/debate...

I careless about all platforms, I'm not their agent and not willing to be one ambassador

Now....I'm of the opinion, if a driver was to use the indriver platform, he needs to be smart. Here is it, previously someone embarked on a bolt trip from LUTH - Unilag and it ended N2900.
(Surge or No surge)

So he is to pay %23 commission...N667
He earns N2233...
A Driver might decide to go on such trip on indriver for N2400
With %9.5 commission - N228
He earns N2172...
Arguably - the difference is N61 (quite negligible)

Now, here lies the caveat...ensure the route you wan' go is of less traffic and short. Or better still ensure you drive against traffic.

Now, in this hustle....Time is of essence...for someone like me, I drive max - 4 days a week, I don't chase bonuses, if it comes- fine, if does not al'amdulilahi...

Like Pearl 1960 pleaded with a driver to move from toll gate lekki to wemco N3500 around 1p.m...without commission... Why not? You move ....Why wait for yeye surge, why drive back to a surge area and wait till you get offers at most N4500, closing hour....why not go wemco drop off and go position to alausa..begin your shuttle Ikeja - surulere back to Ikeja or magodo back n forth...

Time is key and Health is paramount...

In a nutshell....in this hustle, once you meet your target...ure good to go...

There's absolutely nothing bad in achieving your dream of a N1M, but your Chest and car go hear Pansa Pansa... (Ref - BAZOO)

*SECURITY ALERT*

Good evening good people. A new wave of robbery has been introduced in Lagos metropolis. And relative of mine was attacked yesterday around Yaba axis. Two men wearing reflective jacket pretending to be task force personnel waved him down and demanded to know him and his mission in that area. While this was going on the second man entered into the front seat and demanded the car key. In a jiffy they became four men. He was overpowered with one of them taking over the driving. Along the road the hazard light was switched on to disguise. A POS was brought out for operation. They demanded his ATM at gun point while on motion. All the money in his account was transfered. Please wherever you see men in reflective jacket that are not in police uniform do not stop. They are all over Lagos now. Share this message to all your friends and contact to be aware of this new trend. May the Lord save us in this perilous time.

Once you take a rider to airport, just move as soon as the rider drops, don't stop anywhere in the airport, for any reason, don't stop anywhere in the airport please. The day I stopped just to properly close my booth a rider didn't close well, I was rounded up by those airport watchmen and parted with 10k or so (can't remember again).

If you don't want to blow empty from airport, go and pay and wait at car park, but I never did that since Ikeja GRA is just by the corner and you can easily get another trip driving to GRA when you drop your airport rider.

May the the veterans can give you better tips

Good luck bro
I could remember dropping off a rider I picked up from iponri to FAAN Quarters, close to the junk yard where those ugly tow gangs, wearing ragtag ankara , sweating profusely do lurk around.

I was so exhausted, naso I just parked underneath the "mango tree" grin (not really a mango tree, but a tree..just to make story sweet) right in front of Legend hotel....I flex the chair backwards to take 30mins Nap.

All of a sudden...I heard "gbra"... with long chains , pulleys and wrenches... Ah! Ah!! ...say wetin happen? Before I could say Jack, dem don dent my newly painted bumper, jacked my car and pull it into their yard which is just less than ½km... I was marvelled...

This is just typical shallow Nigerian news without details.

Can anyone tell me exactly how Siemens plans to get us from our current paltry 4000MW to 7000MW? Is it by providing gas to existing under utilized gas plants? If so, where is the gas magically going to come from? Or do they plan to deploy grid scale solar and wind?

And then how are we to get from 7000MW to 11,000MW and then on the 25,000MW. Even if money were not an impediment, that sort of jump would still be very challenging to pull off, given the so many things that can go wrong with executing a project like this in Nigeria beyond the financial aspects.

As far as I'm concerned this is all just shallow talk, as there is no concrete plan!!
The News is tales by moonlight. But let me explain...
As at today, there's installed generational capacity of close to mW20,000 , but the transmission lines and distribution can take up to 4500 hence the grid collapses.

So, they are here to invest in transmission and distribution so as to pick up the excess load of 15000 - 20000 installed capacity.

But this project cant come to reality in the next 50 years...sad reality...don't ask me why please...
Egyptian had already completed theirs...

Good afternoon my bosses. I appreciate and thank you all for your explanations yesterday.

Please I got one more thing I need clarifications on.

So I took a trip on 1.9 surge from Unilag ( fac. of science ) to Ecwa guest house@ Montgomery road, yaba. And the rider had already changed the address back to unilag so I can take them back. But I ended the trip and asked them to re book the ride so I can take them back.

1st trip ended @ 1,400
2nd trip back to unilag ended @1,100

Total :2,500

Is this the right procedure? Or I shouldn’t have ended the trip since it was booked on surge 1.9 which will likely make the final price higher ?

Partners in the house, how do you handle rentals from a driver who was unable to work because he was blocked by bolt.

The way I see it, getting blocked for whatever reason is totally avoidable and in my opinion, you have to be really careless to get blocked for whatever reason at all.

The driver wants me to waive payment for the day he was blocked and I have refused. Am I being harsh?

PS: The agreement does not say anything about being blocked.
This your submission is wrong and was born out of sentiment... We get blocked, either temporarily or permanent for different reasons which at all times i tagged it infantile, but be that at it may, your decision depends on the driver persona , you and the Agreement... Better still, don't wait for riders during trips except a few situations where you have to apply a human face. Such waits must never exceed five minutes. Waiting is forbidden when it's a short trip. End trip if rider insists on making a stop.

I don't know how Bolt really works, that's why I don't bother with that app. If it's Uber, be sure wait time and time spent in traffic counts. So, if you are on Uber and you are lucky to find a surge trip (between 1,6- 2.0 only), you can wait during a trip.

Waiting during a good surge trip is a cool way of making money without lifting a finger. Anything other than that, it pays you more to keep moving. In this business, your interest should always come first. Forget how a rider feels because they are not considerate themselves by asking you to wait stupidly.
Flesh and blood did not reveal this to you grin

You can’t relate and understand the logic but I’ll help you… well as for shoprite, before you make your request come outside stand very close to a good landmark eg entrance 1/2, kfc, chicken rep etc…. Let a driver know you’re already in front of entrance 1 or kfc.

For blenco, always be outside the exit gate book ride especially bolt they most times 1-5mins away… tell the driver you’re already waiting for him at the entrance. It’s help in looking for cars in the parking lot like someone wey lost money…. Naija parking lot no get number or any good order try these above methods and come back here to let us know your experience.

White man go Dey outside waiting and tracking the drivers movement but naija go enter mall without buying anything yet and book Uber down to waste his time after finished for over 30mins they’ll begin Dey call oga where did you park in a very big parking lothuh

Once I see these name pooping on my pickup screen: Xe, Xao, Jin, Mei all I needed to do is tell them i am driving to entrance 1 or 2.

Their reply most times is okay my friend I meet you there…

We’re not really ripe for technology yet…

Don’t even talk about delivery bikemen those one Dey suffer from riders end

Men! To get a car dis period to drive no go easy o. I feel for guys looking out for cars.
If only Nigeria and Nigerians are transparent and sincere, most of these car sellers should come to rescue. Some cars have been on car stand for years looking for buyers. But sellers and HP guys go dey fight. Greed go enter!!
Nothing pains to know u can do something but tools no dey.

After all, I hear say oyibos no dey pay fully for cars to acquire them.
You see those two - transparency, Sincerity ...let me add one join - Considerate
Gbàgbe é... All these qualities has been expunged since independence
