This or that
Non of the two impresses me. The first pic is too much noise (bogus) and the second pic is below minimalist tbh.

They say less is more and I agree because there is an aura of sophistication around the use of the right blend of warm colors for interior decorations, art works or wall paintings, location of lightings such as the use of lamp shades and recess lights, etc.

Price control measures have to be introduced IMMEDIATELY across Nigeria with the introduction of CNG-powered delivery trucks and vehicles to LOWER the cost of food items.

Severe punishments must be meted out on the middlemen, hoarders, and unnessary road levies and illegal check points must be removed to stop extortions of truck drivers.

Cargo trains should also bring in food items from the North to the South and vice versa for the cheaper delivery of commodities and the distribution monitored to prevent the greedy group of Nigerians and even immigrant non-Nigerians from hijacking them for resale at a higher price.

Dedicated phone lines should be set up in each state so that informants can give out information about those hording goods in order to make huge profits because a lot of the inflation in Nigeria is ARTIFICIAL INFLATION.

Bringing the cost of living down is NOT rocket science. Just deal with the insecurity situation with ruthlessness (especially those caused by Fulani bandits across Nigeria) and introduce price control with punitive measures for those imbeciles who like to inflict pain on others due to greed. Period.

Family › Re: If You Want The Naira To Appreciate In Value, Do These Twenty Things by Konquest: 12:42am On Feb 08, 2024
Icrave4u:
If you want the Naira to appreciate in value, do these twenty things.

1.Instead of MTN, Airtel or Etisalat, use Glo
2.Instead of Mercedes, Range Rover, or Honda, buy Innoson
3.Fly Air Peace over Air France, KLM, or Lufthansa
4.Bank at First Bank, UBA, GTBank, and Zenith over Stanbic
5.Watch AriseTV, Channels and NTA over Multichoice DSTV
6.Buy Dangote and Ibeto cement, and avoid Chinese brands
7.Watch and buy Enyimba FC, Kano Pillars, and 3SC over Manchester United, Barcelona, PSG, and Napoli
8.Buy music of Nigerian origin from streaming sites instead of downloading foreign artistes
9.Patronise DAKOVA, Mai Atafo, Mudi Africa, and JADZ Couture (maker of my babanriga and agbada. Show her some love on +234 704 477 9973) over Armani, Gucci, Balenciaja, and Louis Vuitton
10.Drink palm wine over champagne, Hennessy, Scotch Whiskey, and Irish Cream
11.Shop with your local market woman instead of at Shoprite
12.Buy and eat only made in Nigeria rice, and let Thailand eat their rice
13.Consider cassava bread over bread made with foreign-grown wheat
14.Buy Zinox PCs, laptops, and tablets
15.Instead of Birdseye custard, Quaker oats, and Kellogg's cereals, drink akamu, pap, and ogi
16.Leave KFC, and patronise Mr Bigg's, Tantalizers, and Mama Put
17.Stop using Holland Wax, and imported George and wrapper. Use Kaduna textiles, aso oke, Akwete cloth, and other local textiles
18.Watch less Hollywood and Bollywood movies, and go for Nollywood and Kannywood
19.Holiday and honeymoon in Obudu Cattle Ranch, Yankari Games Reserve, Ikogosi Warm Springs, and attend Argungu Fishing Festival
20.Reject imported frozen fish, meat and dairy products and buy fresh produce from local producers

Nobody is coming to save Nigeria. It is only Nigerians that will save Nigeria. Local brands may or may not be as good as foreign ones, but with continued patronage, they will improve in quality. Buy them, and your Naira will rise along with your personal happiness and the international rating of the green Nigerian passport. Your value is tied to Nigeria's value. Buy Nigerian and Nigeria's foreign reserves, trade balances, and debt to GDP ratio will automatically improve.

Politics › Re: Nigeria Cannot Feed Herself. Spent $15 Billion Importing Food in 2019 by Konquest: 12:27am On Feb 08, 2024
DeLaRue:
We should be doing both.

As a member of international trade organisations like the WTO, the government can't even ban most goods without facing punitive measures.

Nonetheless I am fully in support of government raising import duties to the highest levels permitted under international trade treaties for non essential food imports like wines and other drinks, olive oil, soya and other vegetables oils etc

The average Supermarket has several varieties of imported breakfast cereals. You want to eat cereals, no problem. Government should impose the highest import duty legally possible on things like that.

A commenter above even said that we can't grow oaths locally. So we didn't survive when we didn't eat oats? Oats was not even widely available in Nigeria until about 10 years ago.

Didn't we use to have yam and egg, beans etc for breakfast as kids in those days.

Like I said, you want non essential imported foods, no problem, just be prepared to pay eye watering price for them.

This is the approach the government should take to reduce imports.
You made several valid points here... Especially the bolded.

However, oats have been widespread since the 1970s oil boom era in Nigeria. Back in those days in the 1970s, the department stores in Lagos and other states such as Kingsway and Leventis used to be a favorite of my folks and I and imported brands of oats such as Quaker Oats (and even custards and corn flakes) were widely available as breakfast cereals.

The Kellogg's factory in Lagos and the NASCO Corn flakes factory in Jos are a testament to how these cereals and other food items can be processed through value addition within Nigeria instead of importing things that can be made in Nigeria when the will is there.

People like you amuse me a lot.
You do not approach any issue with the intention of having a conversation and hopefully learn something new
Rather your intent is to assert and pronounce arrogantly exultant but oblivious of your comprehensive ignorance

Nigeria has 34 millions hectares of Arable land . That is MORE THAN Ukraine

That is NUMBER SEVEN in the world.
So from. That perspective we should be a leading producer of food

There is nothing wrong in importing. This is not an ideological issue

The issue on ground is simple in 2019 we had a $16 billion Bill for food
The question is HOW DO WE PAY FOR THAT?

WHAT DO WE EXCHANGE FOR THAT
Not engaging in food production at scale is a luxury for countries that produce IPhones trains automobiles etc

What DO WE PRODUCE.??
Rather than ranting foolishly
Name one thing we should focus on if not food

Just one thing please

Like I said we are number 7 in the world in terms of Arable land 34 million hectares
We should compare ourselves with the Netherlands 1 million hectares

The Netherlands s is the Fourth largest food exporting country
Deep insights.
But the insecurity from rogue Fulah bandits on some of the Nigerian arable lands has to be death with at Federal, state, and LGA levels.

There are hundreds of commercial farmers and workers who were kidnapped and had to pay huge ransoms or they were brutally killed in the key Northern states with arable lands.

Second, more lands have to be cleared in the South at a higher cost. These have to be done to increase food output in the Southern states.

Third, there's a huge irrigation and hydroelectric dam that has been under construction since 1983 by the Federal Government! This has been abandoned and has to be completed ASAP to boost agric output during the dry seasons.

Fourth, create dairy farms for the Fulahs and others so as generate more income from milk sales to milk companies and reduce Fulani banditry.

Properties › Re: 'adron Homes Is Fraudulent' -customers Drag Company, Share Dreadful Experiences by Konquest: 11:43pm On Feb 07, 2024
Omonaijablog:
Adron Homes has been called out, as its customers took to social media to lament their awful experiences with the real estate firm.

The customers, who had purchased properties from Adron Homes, complained that the company failed to deliver on its numerous promises, including the allocation of lands even after payments had been made.

Some of the customers also accused Adron Homes of using deceptive marketing tactics to lure customers into purchasing properties, such as promising unrealistic returns on investment.

”Adron Homes is a fraudulent company. They allocated a piece of land in Shimawa, near the RCCG area, and gave a complementary bag of rice and keg of groundnut oil. Shimawa had experienced a developmental boost due to the presence of the Redeemed church. However, years after almost completing the payment, Adron Homes reallocated the land to an entirely different area, a proper tropical rainforest. This action seemed like a breach of agreement, so we decided to back out and requested a refund. Unfortunately, their terms and conditions booklet is heavily loaded in their favor, which protected them. They charged a huge percentage of the money as a default fee and even demanded we return the bag of rice and keg of groundnut oil we received before they refunded a ridiculous amount…” one of the customers, @Engr_Series, wrote.

Adron wey collect money for my hand and tell me told me to oay 1.5m for development fee on half plot i just kuku dash dem d money Adron na fraud,” @vantundenani wrote.

However, while many people continued to share their awful experiences with Adron Homes, others spoke glowingly of the real estate firm.

”Actually I have seen, both local and overseas guys that buy and build. As an architect I have also designed, supervised and built houses for clients in Adron homes. I think the best advise is just pay your money in full, collect your land where you paid for and start building,” @aramitunji wrote.

Another Twitter user, who ruled out insinuation that Adron Homes is fraudulent, attributed people’s bad experiences with the real estate company to their inability to ask questions and read their terms and conditions.

”In simple truth, Nigerians love the idea of living in an estate, and, the state of the earth’s infrastructure and the serenity of the real estate company puts in place drives them to buy. In the case of Adron Homes, I personally took families and friends to go buy from them after reading carefully the terms and conditions. I went there and saw massive infrastructural work and I asked how the company manages to put all these amenities such as concrete roads, drainages, dedicated power supply, and other amenities I saw when I was taken on inspection I was told one has to pay for the infrastructural charges to build and I agreed cos I can see what I’m paying for and why it was necessary. I intend to build and resell some acquired plots of land just when it’s ripe for reselling. The problem is that people don’t ask questions,” @Bodmas18_ wrote.

In response to what he described as an unestablished accusation of Adron Homes, one of the company’s marketers, who pleaded not to be mentioned in this report, told BizWatch Nigeria that a lot of people don’t have an idea of how real estate works.

When asked if it’s true that people don’t get their lands allocated to them after payments, the marketer explained that Adron Homes has a policy that only those that are ready to build get their lands allocated to them.

”We don’t allocate lands to people until they are ready to build, and this is a transparent policy. It is clearly written in the documents we present to our clients. This is because we marketed these properties with the promise to provide social amenities, and security, amongst other things. Tell, how do you want us to provide security for someone who has a house in one of our estates, but is surrounded by bushes because the land owners that are supposed to be his or her neighbour aren’t ready to build?” he queried.

Five Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals fact

There have been 55 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals from 1957 when Egypt defeated hosts Sudan 2-1 in the first and AFP Sport highlights five facts:

Quickest goal:
Nigeria winger Tijani Babangida scored the quickest goal just one minute into a 2-0 triumph over South Africa in Lagos 22 years ago. Babangida, then with Ajax Amsterdam, was the star of the show as he also netted the second goal for the co-hosts.

Latest goal
Another former Ajax forward, South African Benni McCarthy, claimed the latest goal, 22 minutes into extra time in a 1998 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in Ouagadougou.

There have been 55 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals since 1957 when Egypt defeated hosts Sudan in the very first ever played.

First goal
Raafat Attia scored the first goal, putting Egypt ahead against Sudan on 21 minutes in Khartoum 65 years ago. His clubs included future African giants Zamalek, named after a Cairo suburb, and later coached in Saudi Arabia.

First hat-trick
Zambia sharpshooter Bernard ‘Bomber’ Chanda scored the only hat-trick in 1974 against Congo Brazzaville in Cairo. Known as the KK XI in honour of then President Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia triumphed 4-2 after extra time.

Goals so far
The 55 matches have produced 161 goals at an average of 2.9 per semi-final. The most common scores have been 1-0 and 2-1 with 12 each, there have twice been seven goals while 4-0 was the widest winning margin and achieved three times.

AFCON 2023: Semifinal against Nigeria will be different, says S/African coach

Hugo Bruce, South African coach, says he will approach the semi-final match against Nigeria differently from Bafana Bafana’s style in their quarter-final game against Cape Verde on Saturday.

All bark? Go ask Ojukwu that ran like a coward in woman dress!

Who also birthed Nigeria democracy if not the Yorubas?

Do you also realise that the Emir was chased out of Ilorin, a Yoruba land as its name depicts by the Yorubas before the British came? The British wrote it in their archive as a matter of fact. That was the record documented in the archives by the British who emphatically stated that the Emir had been chased out of Ilorin before the British arrived. When the Balogun wouldn't submit, they were exiled while the Emir was brought back. All these are documented already in the old archives. In 1934, same Emir was deposed by the Yorubas. It was British who brought him back then.

Any useless terrorist fermenting trouble in Yoruba land had better watch his useless self and head. This also includes the Igbos!

Babajide Sanwo-Olu is being clearly intentional here by setting a clear target to start construction through a PPP arrangement. COVID and the global lockdowns slowed down the date of commencement and delivery of the Lekki-Epe International Airport and the 4th Mainland Bridge.

The new Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link bridge in Ikeja (which connects Ojota directly) is being built and will be completed in mid-2024 to drastically reduce the enervating traffic gridlocks on Allen Avenue, Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way, Maryland and the Ikeja GRA (coming from the Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 and leading right up to Ikorodu Road). So, kudos to the Governor of Lagos State and his team! There's more work for them to do though.

For years now, I've been correcting some folks as-and-when-due to STOP saying SORRY again and again because in standard English language it's an admittance of GUILT!

Also, NEVER ask about the welfare of a person's family members in the Western world. It is deemed as an INVASION of privacy or personal space. Meanwhile in most African and Asian cultures, asking about the welfare of the family members is traditionally deemed proper. It's all part of international etiquette which regular international travelers have to get used to so as NOT to offend the sensibilities of other's.

Bankowner:
I fell into this trap twice telling a client "it's okay" which by my own reasoning meant "I have heard you, there isn't any problem. We should stop discussing it" but the client flared "It's not okay". It was a bit of a culture shock, me thinking I finally understand how to relate with the white folks. This days, I listen more and talk less. That way, I am quickly able to process what they're saying before stringing up a response.
Succinctly put.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Financial Markets & Rates & Credit Trading, West Africa, Ayodeji Adelagun, said that given the unstable naira, that was the time to buy only as many dollars as required for use per time.

Adelagun said, “This is not the time to speculate, it’s not time to stockpile. It’s time to get only what you need. If you need to pay for something, buy what you need and move on.”

He pointed out that the volatility seen with the naira was as a result of attempts of the Central Bank of Nigeria to mop up excess liquidity.

“People are facing hardship such that a measure of rice cannot be afforded by a lot of families. Locally produced rice is now N65,000, maize is N52,000, millet N56,000, and groundnut oil is N4,500. Where will the people place themselves and what will the salary earner survive on?
