What an interesting story. cheesy

I'm inspired by her.
I hope to leave with the world my own recipe someday.
It has always been one of my aspirations.

Thank you for the link.
I really do appreciate. smiley
You're welcome @mariahAngel.

Indeed, it's always a brilliant idea to properly document ones unique recipes so that others don't claim credit for them.

The Greek-Canadian immigrant (Sam Panapoulos) who created pineapple pizza years back in the 1960s is still well known as of today. The Italians have NOT forgiven him for tampering with their own centuries-old traditional pizza recipe though. grin

Most Italians and even Italian-Americans tend to downplay pineapple pizza but a vast number of folks around the world like the creative taste of pineapple pizza.

I actually did state two issues: gluttony or social media validation. I don't have a problem if he ate from an earthen ware or used corrosive utensils.

That said, I found it weird (not repulsive) that a man took himself to his girlfriend's house, saw her fridge was stocked with eggs and all manner of goodies and when he decided to prepare something for both of them to eat (tuwo and soup), he added beef and 3 boiled eggs.

So, it's either he's a glutton or a NL attention seeker; the latter seems to be it
Lol. Okay... I hear you loud and clear! Well indeed, there should be too much protein sources in there for a balanced diet. Meat and 3 eggs for one person except it was meant for him and his GF.

Moderation is the key just like you have stated.

@mariahAngel,

You didn't know before now? I thought you would know this because you have a vast knowledge of several cuisines and recipes. You can read more about her online and how the name Ayamase was coined or came into existence years back.

Infact, the original Ayamase recipe is a close secret among the children and grandchildren of the woman who created Ayamase decades back.

Before British colonialism, tribal identities as we now know and proclaim them weren't big issues.
Before 1900, what was more important were Kingdoms (or Emirates) and Empires, which are often populated by people from diverse ethnic backgrounds but who lived together and have loyalties to their kingdoms/Empires.

There were itinerant Fulani clerics ,herders and traders in various numbers who settled in different parts of Nigeria, including the S/West. With passage of time, some of these people adopted Yoruba names and culture such that by third generations, you may not know unless they tell you.

I have first hand experience because one of my Ex-GF is one of their descendants. The day I went to their house and saw her father, I believed her story of Fulani ancestry because the father still have remnants of the tall, slim Fulani physique.

It may interest you to know that Oyo Empire was NOT 100% populated by Yorubas and at various times, included Bariba, Nupe, Hausa slaves, Fulani settlers and Dahomians. All of whom didn't disappeared but their descendants today ,simply identify as Yoruba.
@Oyatz,

That's an impressive feedback.

Indeed, all Empires such as the Oyo, Ashanti, Benin, Roman, Greek, Persian, Ottoman, British Empires, etc, were populated by multiple ethnicities in addition to the ethnic group of the primary conquerors.

Yorubas often add eggs to their ayamase.
Even buka stew.

Boiled eggs in stew are usually tasty if allowed to absorb some flavour.
Indeed, I'm surprised by the responses of some posters here especially some Yoruba folks you had a convo with on this thread who say the OP's food combo with eggs looks like a plate of "ebo" or sacrifice!

The Yorubas have an internationally famous stew made from only green peppers called "Ayamase" which is used to eat only Ofada rice and the Ayamase stew recipe was originally invented and popularized many decades back by a Yoruba woman from Ikenne in Ogun State (who has now passed on since 2013). Ayamase recipe quite similar but different from Ofada sauce/stew recipe which is made of red pepper and more as can be seen from the attached pic below.

Except if these posters are "repulsed" by the OP adding eggs to the tuwo, stew, and meat he's eating with a bent old metallic spoon and a metallic plate on a white plastic table, I absolutely see no reason why boiled eggs cannot be eaten with rice or any other recipe.
Based on the herd mentality this thread further exposes some human beings as being very good when it comes to mob action in the public space.

Nah man, can deal! Is this gluttony or social media validation or even both?
Is there anything wrong with eating all kinds of tuwo with miyan ewedu, stew, three boiled eggs and beef combo OR is it just the fact that the OP used an bent old spoon and a stainless steel plate to eat on a plastic table that is repulsive to you?

I quickly rushed to cook some eggs and meat in a very delicious stew , then we accompanied it a very smooth Tuwo.

Okay. I'm just worried that some talked about his impending death with that of his family. And then an accident happened. The coincidence is enough to raise suspicions.
Indeed, it was an uncanny coincidence like you've righly stated. That copter should NEVER have been allowed to fly with the four passengers and two pilots that night due to the inclement weather conditions in the Southern California area where it finally crashed and burst into flames as can be seen from the two attached pictures of the copter accident scene below in the Mojave Desert of Southern California..

A U.S. Marines helicopter with five Marines on board also crashed in that area with NO survivors just less than 2 weeks before this recent private charter copter crash in the Mojave Desert in Southern California involving Otunba Abimbola Ogunbanjo and Herbert Wigwe's family.

My name is Ileri Babalobi and I am trying to become the 1st African to visit all 54 African countries without using a plane. In the process,I plan to set 2 Guinness world records and Raise money for the Nigerian Red Cross. I expect to take about 6months. Here's why I'm doing this

I've been backpacking for nearly 10 years now. I have been to all 36 states of Nigeria, and when I lived in Ghana, all the 16 regions there as well as over a dozen African countries. i've been trying to visit all African countries for a long time and I'm finally close to doing it

On the trip I'll be exploring the culture and visiting the Tourist Areas of each place I visit and stream it on YouTube here https://youtube.com/@africatours . I've always been interested in how people in other cultures and places live. Which brings me to why I'm making this trip . ..

1) Im very Pro Nigerian and without being facetious, I've always wanted to do something for her Gratis . I hope to raise a lot of money for the Nigerian Red Cross. The official name of the attempt is Naija to the World and at each Border I'll take a picture with the Nigerian flag.

2 I want to show how people in other countries live
3 I would be promoting the Borderless Africa campaign by Africans Rising, which seeks to remove barriers to migration ( such as expensive visas) among African Nations.
4) it's a Chance to fulfill a life long personal dream .

I'll leave from Lagos in March and I plan to do a daily summary here on nairaland everyday , as well as two YouTube videos of the days adventures.
Advice and tips are welcome

@
That's impressive. I'm a big fan of international cultures and leisure travels as well.

Stay at alert when you get to Mali which is undergoing an insurgency war against three Islamist groups since the military first took over in that country, and Somalia as well. Better to stay NOT too far from the capital cities and other commercial cities.

Journey mercies... All the best.

So, considering the rate at which the price of foodstuffs keep increasing by the day, I decided to buy enough rice to last a while.
I went to a local market here in Southern Kaduna (where I work) to get my rice. These local markets are open only once a week, with traders and buyers from far and wide coming to make the most of it.

I was able to get local, clean rice at the rate of N1,500 per mudu (our unit of measurement here grin). I bought 15 mudus, that's N22,500 and got 1 extra mudu free after scoping the mama to the best of my ability.
I think it was a good purchase considering how our brothers in the south are lamenting the cost of food over there.
What's the situation in your area?

The Cable (NBS)
Solutions... Focusing on ONLY sustainable solutions is the key from here on out, not gloating over what's already spilled milk.

1). CNG fuel to lower the costs of food delivery for trucks and hence cheaper foods in the major markets. Food trucks can be kitted to run on CNG and diesel fuels from North to South and vice versa.

2). The use of surveillance and attack drones plus well-trained and paid special crack team of anti-kidnapping security agents so that commercial and small-scale farmers can go back to their farm with the use of improved seedlings to boost harvests.

3). Set up more dairy farms in the far-Northern states to take the Fulani herders off wandering from state to state causing clashes with the locals. Milk earns more money for the Fulani herders and cattle owners. Other ethnicities can also benefit by supplying cow milk to the dairy farms.

4). Price Control Boards all over Nigeria to stop criminal food speculators like that already in full effect in Niger State. Special whistleblower phone lines in all states must be made available to report middlemen speculators.

5). All illegal checkpoints used to EXTORT money from long-distance food trucks drivers by alleged uniformed security men and state government officials in the name of levies MUST be removed from all highways NOW! Only legal checkpoints must remain and special whistleblower phone lines in all states must be made available to report specific violators in order to punish them.

This is my FREE advice to the President Bola Tinubu's team of FG technocrats, and all state government officials to reduce inflation. The pussyfooting has got to stop. This is NOT rocket science. Period.

“It is true that people do come from Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsha, Katsina and Kano to buy yams here, but the problem of escalating food prices especially that of yam is not caused by them. The problem is from the inability of farmers to cultivate their farms due to banditry attacks and the increase in cost of transporting yams to market due to high cost of fuel,” said Sarkin Doya.

I must commend blueprint for this balanced investigative reporting. It's particularly an excellent journalistic report because it points out the problems, the causes and possible solutions to be immediately adopted.

I have no doubt that governments at all levels will find this report very helpful. I am glad that the FG is already on it.

Meanwhile, the southern Nigeria parts , especially the Yorubaland region with so much land, great weather and abundant water bodies can do better than it is currently doing in agriculture. We lead cassava, cocoa, kolanut etc but we need to look at commercial farming of the staple crops too. We have always fed our own population in the western region and we can bring back those days. We need a strategic plan for our region's food security so that we will not be at the mercy of agelong local communal fights in northern Nigeria.

God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
All these long-distance food delivery trucks and trailers can be fitted with CNG fuel devices. CNG fuel is way cheaper than PMS or diesel. That would immediately LOWER the cost of transportation and foodstuffs from the North to the Southern states and vice versa. The food truck owners can then pay the government back for aiding them to fix the CNG kits. The trucks can also run on dual diesel and CNG.

Second, the illegal checkpoints MUST also be removed with the aid of whistleblower telephone lines in all the states of Nigeria and severe punishments meted on uniformed security men and others alleged to be extorting food delivery truck drivers. These are the low-hanging fruits that I expected all past governments of all the political parties in Nigeria to have done since 1999 but these politicians are too engrossed in their own small thinking. You need to think BIG if you want to disruptively change a country from an underachiever into a developed and technologically advanced country!

President Bola Tinubu, his lieutenants and ALL the state Governors MUST get cracking with:

1) The CNG trucks and vehicles deployment.

2) Remove ALL the illegal checkpoints and illegal highways levies collections and have officially whistleblowers phone lines to report these situations in all the states.

3) Introduce surveillance and attack drones in crime hotspots to eliminate highway kidnappings and armed robberies to minimize the pains that a vast array of folks are going through.

This is a FREE advice from me and you don't require a Harvard University or a London School of Economics and Political Science graduate to tell you these!

This isn't rocket science and the FG and state governments (including the private sector) must create a rapid sense of urgency in this case, so, folks must stop waiting for Dangote Refinery to start the distribution of fuel through the independent marketers. Period.

However, Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi Abubakar, a grain dealer at Maikukele Market, advised that enforcing the Executive Order should focus on only trucks of food items going out of the state.

He said security agents were arresting trucks within the state, thus making it impossible for farmers to transport grains to the markets.

…House of Assembly wades in

Apparently concerned with the escalating cost of food items, the Niger state House of Assembly has commenced the enactment of a Bill for the establishment of Price Control Board to regulate prices of food items.

It was learnt that the bill sponsored by member representing Agaie constituency, Alhaji Isah Etsugaie, would empower the board to study market situations in the state with a view to restructuring the deteriorating supply and demand mechanism.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-68272830
As the rising cost of living continues to bite, many in northern Nigeria are turning to rice grains that millers normally reject after processing or sell to farmers to feed their fish.

These are referred to in the Hausa language, widely spoken in the north, as afafata, which means "battling" because they are literally a battle to cook and eat as the grains are so hard.

"A few years ago, people didn't care about this type of rice, and we usually threw it away along with the rice hulls, but times have changed," Isah Hamisu, a rice mill worker in the northern city of Kano, told the BBC.

Despite the grains being broken, dirty and tough, afafata's cheaper price has made it more attractive for humans and helped poorer families to be able to afford to eat one of the staple foods in the country.

Fish farm owner Fatima Abdullahi said her fish love it but because people are now eating afafata, its price has risen.

Prices in Nigeria are increasing at their fastest rate for nearly 30 years. On top of global pressures, President Bola Tinubu's cancellation of the fuel subsidy plus the devaluation of the currency, the naira, have added to inflation.

A standard 50kg (110lb) bag of rice, which could help feed a household of between eight and 10 for about a month, now costs 77,000 naira ($53; £41). This is an increase of more than 70% since the middle of last year and exceeds the monthly income of a majority of Nigerians.

~~~~
//////
//////
My Takes on this:
Northern Nigeria (including Kano) is the major hub for improved rice cultivation and milling. How come this is happening?... Well investigations ALSO show that middlemen are engaged in rampant greed and profiteering. There is also the smuggling of Northern Nigeria-grown rice to Niger Republic and other neighboring countries to maximize profit.
This is another aspect where the inherent greed in some Nigerians in undermining they total welfare of a vast number of Nigerian folks.
Even when Mohammed Buhari from Daura in Katsina State was the President of Nigeria, very greedy and highly dishonest Katsina rice farmers were selling or smuggling bags of milled Nigerian rice (grown with money from the Anchor Borrower's Program) to Niger Republic to maximize profits as reported in the online and offline media space!
The governments at Federal and State levels must immediately move in to introduce major price control measures with whistleblower telephone lines in each state and local government to report ANYBODY hoarding and selling commodities beyond an approved upper limit.
Second, all illegal checkpoints must be eradicated with special phone numbers in each state to report such cases of illegal extortions of food trucks and trailers by alleged uniformed security men.
Third, like I earlier stated in past posts, massive deployment of surveillance and attack drones must be made in well-known crime hotspots to prevent and eliminate the criminals and kidnapping cartels disturbing commercial and small farmers, and travelers of major highways. This is NOT rocket science, and can be done!
The copter took off at night as of 8:45pm and crashed and burst into flames after clipping and bringing down some power lines based on eyewitness reports as of 10pm local California time in the Mojave Desert near the California and Nevada border due to poor visibility and bad weather conditions. Most of the latest aircraft have advanced gadgets or onboard instruments that aid navigation in bad weather conditions and can indeed land with near-zero or zero-visibility.
The detailed weather pattern position in relation to the flight plan should have been followed in order to decide whether to take off or not. That copter CERTAINLY shouldn't have been allowed to take off leading to the death of the two pilots as well (both aged 22 and 25).
Things just didn't align in this case due to the inclement weather in the California region that also caused the crash of other military and civilian aircraft before this latest copter crash that sent shockwaves around the global business community and the Nigerian Diaspora.
Largely ignorant comment. Helicopters also have auto pilots. The problem that I see here is that for a man of his status, he boarded a very cheap helicopter. Even the helicopters that caverton use are better and more sophisticated than this.
The difference between a plane and a helicopter is a plane can remain in the air if an engine or all engine fail but a helicopter will fall. Therefore what is a man of means doing in a single engine relatively low caliber helicopter at night? And you will also know this is a poorly equipped helicopter because it doesn’t even have a CVR or FDR. Very unlikely to be equipped with the latest flight technologies. Like I said modern helicopters are equipped with advanced weather radar including wind shear , ground terrain radar and auto pilot.
RIP to the dead but to start with, A man of means has no business being inside a single engine helicopter especially with his family in this day and age. It’s like entering a single engine Cessna. Why would someone who is used to travelling in bombardier challenger and global jets enter a Cessna with his family talk less a low grade helicopter?
Indeed, and the crash took place at just past 10 pm local time in bad weather conditions in California.
How petrol prices feared since subsidy removal
After the removal of the petrol subsidy in May 2023, the pump price changed from N185 per litre to N400 per litre, and then to N568 per litre at NNPC fueling stations, while others currently sell above N600.
The government had said the prices would fluctuate after subsidy removal from time to time but the pump price has maintained a steady rise despite the fact that the price of crude oil in the global market keeps going up and down.
The IMF, in its latest statement at the weekend, said the Tinubu administration has “capped retail fuel and electricity prices” ostensibly to “ease the impact of rapidly rising inflation on living conditions, thus partially reversing the fuel subsidy removal.”
What will you do if you ever find out your landlord has been tapping from your prepaid meter to power 3 of his NonInverter air conditioners?
So here’s the thing; A client reached out to me to buy and install a 2hp LG dual inverter air conditioner. This process is usually straightforward but on this day, we discovered things the landlord would have preferred hidden.
The client shared with me that when he moved in, landlord said they should only call the electrician he recommends. They thought it was because the electrician knew the history of the house and even wired it that’s why.
But on this fateful day, everything cast. The thing is I specifically use installers who have a good knowledge of electrical wiring. So when it was time to connect the ac wire to the prepaid meter outside, my installer discovered the foul play.
He discovered 3 wires ac wires already connected and it was traced to the landlord’s house. My installer called me aside to inform me because he didn’t want to tell the client directly.
At this point, I knew I had to be emotionally intelligent. I called my client aside and told him gently. It didn’t change much because he was soo furious and really sad. He started to recount time and time again he bought units and they didn’t just last little did he know his landlord was using it with him on something as consuming as a NonInverter air conditioner.
We asked him how he’ll like to handle it and he told us to remove all the wires let’s see what the landlord would do which we did. We finished the installation and left.
As a Lagosian, you have to be very wise. This was just a clear case of monkey dey work, baboon dey chop.
If you need to get an inverter or a NonInverter air conditioner and have it installed, send a WhatsApp message to 08188159701, you can also call.
Let us know how you’ll react if you found out your landlord has been tapping your light
How I Helped My Sister With Food Items And Accessories To Take To Canada.
Recently, my sister escaped from this hard country to Canada for greener pastures. Many of you knew me on this site as that young girl with sharp mouth. Well, I may be choleric but I m also nice.
So this February, sister went to Ontario. I knew she'd miss home. I went to Wuse market and nearby street shops n bought varieties. I waka-waka my rubber slippers cut. My sister is a picky type that eat light foods but she still love our local dishes. She's going to miss home 😭 and I just want her to v her favorite foods as long as she can. Though she can patronize African stores over there too.
As I m typing this, I can't wait to see her, am so happy for her and I hope to relocate too via marriage in future. Hm, God when?
Anyways I ll list some of the items as I post them here. They are educative and useful for people going abroad too. There are some items you can take along like razor blades, shaving sticks, stock fish, palm oil, locust beans, garri, beans, rice, onions, matches, polish, makeup props, grinded beans for moinmoin or akara, crayfish, beans, balls, sellotape, dried pepper, potash, bathroom slippers, cleansers, needles and threads to sew post letter tear-tear undies or clothes. 😂 In fact, just carry any small daily use item we use here and conceal them well cos of over sabi long throat immigration officers at airport. It ll shock you you can buy a packet of blade that's not up to N1,000 for over $20 Canadian dollars, that's over N20K in Nigeria. Imagine blade pack kan for N20K? It no shock you?
So below are items I packed for her and she's enjoying them there. 😂
Pic 1, Carton of coaster biscuit, table size mortar and pestle for her to grind pepper and packs of match sticks.
