seunlayi: The importance of going thru Secondary school education can never be undermined. Which secondary school the man you are asking to tackle insecurity attended before going to Chicago?
This issue of someone going to Secondary school or has been annoyingly over flogged.
Many people in history NEVER went to Secondary school before going on to the Uni. Some where home schooled and others like the late former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Ezeife granted an interview to Punch years back in the 2010s where he clearly stated that he NEVER went to a Secondary school. He said he only took tutorials and did his A-level exams which he used to gain admission into a Uni.
I remember clearly because it was in that same interview that he stated that one of his daughters was married to a Yoruba man, and that his big break financially as a millionaire came from his export of especially soy beans from Nigeria.
TimeManager: Kids of nowadays, SMH!. When you stopped history in schools, this is what you get- ignorance!, blissful ignorance!. If you knew the level of great hardships that our parents went through during the period, you won't be here heaping a satanic worship on a man who initiated the begining of economic woes on Nigeria. With the introduction of SAP, IBB destroyed the economic foundation and progress of the country. In one fell swoop, naira was devalued by 500%, then up to 2000%, our debts increased to about $34billion, inflation rose to 54%. We could barely service our short term loans and thus, sellers overseas were reluctant to sell goods to us. Till today, we haven't recovered from SAP, IMF, World Bank captivities that IBB led us into and guess who was the Finance minister at the time, an economist and an ex-World Bank staff, Dr Kalu Idika. Kalu. If there's anyone that should be tied to stake and shot, it is these two evil geninuses.
-kiss the truth!
You got the historical and economic facts right. SAP under the military government of General IBB was the genesis of the economic damage to the Nigerian economy of which she never recovered from till date.
It was in the very corrupt military era of the late 1980s that the japa phenomenon fully gained momentum, many expats from Ghana, Jamaica, India, USA, UK, who had lived and worked in the higher academic institutions and industries in Nigeria during the oil boom years of the 1970s, had to start leaving for greener pastures in Canada, USA, etc, and the name "Tokunbo" and "Belgium" came to be used regularly as colloquial terms in newspaper publications and on the street level because some folks started importing pre-owned cars from Belgium and Germany instead of buying new ones from the assembly plants in Nigeria back in the late 1980s due to high cost.
system21: The Nigeria of 1978, $13,100 was ₦10,220. What is the rate today? Bad leadership and corruption destroyed our economy. Once upon a time in Nigeria, Naira was above dollar. That was when we were GIANT of Africa. Not anymore. Then, $13,100 was ₦10,220 Today, $13,100 is ₦19,650,000.
Congratulations to all the supporters of failed government and corruption
It's what it is.
But back in 1978, the wages were smaller and there was mass importation of luxury items and the department stores (such as the iconic Kingsway Stores and Leventis that I liked visiting back then with my folks) all had majorly foreign consumer products on display. It was after the oil boom that the chicken came to roost and the scales fell off the eyes of a lot of folks.
The real japa movement (The "Andrew checking out" TV ad phenomenon) in Nigeria started in the early 1980s and gained full blast from the late 1980s NOT now.
In a bid to revamp the National Train service, the FG under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu has acquired new trains for the Lagos-Kano rail service.
The trains which will run on existing rail tracks will have stops at Ibadan, Osogbo, Offa, ilorin, mokwa, Minna, Kaduna, Zaria then Kano.
The last stop for the rail service is designed to be Maiduguri but that will be implemented much Later. No time frame was been announced for the recommencement of this project but reports say it should start sometime this year.
chopnaira: Nigeria's crude oil cargoes have already been contracted far into the future. And we have a quota from OPEC. This is not new. When then President Obasanjo and Yar'adua introduced the National Integrated Power Project, the NNPC could not supply the NIPP gas because Nigeria's gas had already been purchased in future contracts far into the future. And if you break those contracts, Nigeria would be taken to arbitration. That is why the Dangote Refinery is buying crude from America. Because it is a private company that will get its supply from anywhere it can to meet its own set targets and timelines.
"Plants do communicate with each other as soon as they sense danger in their neighbourhood. Scientists have knowledge of this phenomenon since the 1980s, and have identified at least 80 species who act in their defence in crisis situations."
Indeed, I've known from a renowned magazine right from the 1980s that plants feel the PAIN of other plants when they are cut or sliced. A device was used back then to measure the vibration and feeling of sensitivity to plant pain. Plants and trees are living beings, so it's not surprising they have sensitivity to their surroundings.
The naira continued its free fall on the official Investor and Exporter window of the foreign exchange market, closing at N1482.57/$ on Tuesday.
This is a 9.93 per cent decline from its N1348.63/$ Monday rate according to data from the FMDQ Securities Exchange.
On the parallel market, it remained stable at N1,450/$, and on the cryptocurrency peer-to-peer market, the naira was trading for N1,439.5/$ on Binance’s P2P platform as of the time of filing this report.
The naira has now fallen to a new all-time low on the official market and this can be linked to the technical devaluation of the national currency.
This is pathetic. My condolences go to the families of the two monarchs and to the folks of Ekiti State.
It's time to decentralize law enforcement and governance in Nigeria. The current President of Nigeria and his team in the legislature must get cracking and damn the consequences from those who want to keep sustaining an inefficient and overcentralised system of government. Security anywhere in the world is always local but with the sharing of critical security information with a central or national security network.
The use of surveillance and attack drones and other satellite tracking technologies, and forensic science must be relentlessly used to prevent crimes and solve criminal puzzles.
Nice2023: I went to beans village at the outskirt of Abuja with the Hope I was going to buy beans at a pocket friendly price ,but i was shocked at the current price.
After having budgeted 20k for it, I got there only to be told that, the price was about 51k.
Immediately i remembered the price might further go up,I just I had to bargained and I eventually met a borno woman who sold her iron beans at 44k to me.
The inflation has finally affected everything especially food.
I wonder how it would be in time to come.
"Iron" beans? What's that?...
Aha! I just found out the meaning of iron beans from the post directly above me... It's a variety of hard beans distinct from ewa oloyin (sweet beans).
Pressure cookers can be used to soften the raw beans though.
FarmPlanetNG: There is a reason they are called " PERISHABLES " in the forst place.
Who buys tomatoes for preservation for a year.
In atomic chemistry and physics, a phenomenon exists that is called half-life. By principle, it also exists in biological sciences. The half-life principle when it comes to food and its kinds theoritisizes that the quality of all kinds of foods in life reduces in quality each day until ut becomes ordinary shaft ( death process )
What i am saying in essennce is that it is to your great disadvantage to buy raw foods for long term storage because the nutritional components of the foods becomes broken and broken down by each day. You will eat it but what makes it nutritous and nourishing for the body completely breaks down molecularly and by the time you eat it after prolonged storage the butrients in it would have diminished by as much as 50-70% hence life by this principle encourages continous work so no one stores and refused to work further
I am saying aby storage of tomatoes, vegetables, pepper for long term is a disadvantage.
You have a valid point about half-life of all things on earth. Everything on this planet is in a state of atomic vibration, thereby also disintegrating gradually. For food items, the nutritional value begins to diminish.
There are devices that help to prolong the shelf-life and taste of raw and cooked foods though. I won't delve into the specifics here because that would amount to advertising.
Nice2023: See the tomatoes I bought yesterday, due to recent hike in everything,I decide to store up food for the year to avoid being caught unawares.
Although it hasn't been easy at all but with a man with four children,u have no option but to ensure u have the food at home and keep everyone moving.
Below is the tomatoes which cost me 15k at Deidei Market Abuja.
Interesting. Boiling grinded tomatoes with some salt and preserving in a deep freezer would ensure a longer-term supply of tomato paste for cooking soups and stews... Or blend the grinded tomatoes with grinded peppers and onions, then store in the deep freezer.
Canned tomato purees exist in the shopping malls so that's essentially preserved tomatoes with some additives.
He was indeed rich being a friend of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and many military guys shortly before the August 1985 military coup. That military influence led him into lifting and exporting crude oil to refineries abroad before he had even clocked 30 years of age, despite being rusticated from the University of Maiduguri. He dabbled into a lot of businesses from the initial palm oil he was selling in Maiduguri with a N5,000 loan from his mother, to making furniture in Maiduguri, and getting a contract to make NYSC uniforms, etc, before becoming a Naira millionaire, then he became a Naira billionaire before becoming a Governor in 1999 at 39-years of age. As to the $4 billion he claimed he had, that's for him to show more proof to validate that but I reckon since the Naira was still stronger in relation to the USD and other basket of currencies, his net worth in USD must have been large based on the exchange rates as of the late 1980s and the 1990s.
I remember he said in a book that I read back in the mid-1990s entitled: "Nigeria 50 Corporate Executives" that his relocation to Lagos State from Maiduguri in the late 1980s opened his eyes to opportunities he never knew existed.
Attached below are the pictures of the younger Orji Kalu in his 20s in the 1980s, and the recent pictures of him.
Talking Tech with the United States Secretary of State (Antony Blinken)
In this video, Fisayo Fosudo discusses technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship with the United States’ 71st Secretary of State, Antony Blinken on his second visit to Nigeria.
The discussions bordered on technology, entrepreneurship and innovation in Nigeria and Africa. Further discussions were had about U.S.-Africa economic relations, digital technologies and how misuse can be prevented as well as the Nigerian Fintech ecosystem.
Impressive takes on entrepreneurship, technologies, and innovations during Anthony Blinken's technically "third" visit to Nigeria.
Ah! So, Anthony is Fisayo Fosudo's other name... That's cool.
abbey621: Lyft can only be held responsible here if the incident was reported, there is little evidence against Lyft especially if they can show that the trip ended hours before the incident occured. Lyft can't be held responsible for what their drivers do OFF trip! That's why their drivers are contractors not employees!
Indeed, you made very valid points there.
Second, it's very important for women who have been sexually assaulted to make a report to the police with evidence on time or as soon as possible and seek medical assistance to prevent unwanted pregnancies from such encounters It's not right that ONLY one out of three women report these rape cases because of shame or they think no one would believe them. By not reporting, these moronic rapists are inadvertently being enabled to repeat the crime of rape again and again.
abbey621: Did you read at all? Paternity test already confirms the father, I'm guessing the guy is a bum hence the bigger money maker is going after the rideshare company.
I only referenced the DNA aspect for EMPHASIS. I'll re-edit that post right away so that folks don't misquote me.
I read the FULL article and saw that the lady distanced herself from the bum of a rapist like you have stated here. It's must have been really emotionally draining for that woman to have been violated by a man she only had contact with once.
A good U.S. attorney should be able to argue in favor of the woman because Lyft or any other rideshare firm should properly profile their drivers by running security checks on them.
eyinjuege: There is DNA evidence of who thw rpaist is. Read the whole article
I'm not sure why he wasn't criminally prosecuted, though it states rape may be difficult to prove even though he's the father of the child
There's an post of the front page of an elderly woman raped by a laborer colleague and he murdered her afterwards by crushing her skull with a huge brick. She wasn't drunk, I'm sure she wasn't indecently dressed either. Rapists are evil
Yes, I originally saw the reference to the male culprit's DNA in the long article. I only made reference to a DNA test for the Lyft drivers for emphasis.
"Means has not filed criminal or other charges against the driver. Abrams noted that given the time that has passed since the alleged assault took place, it could be harder to succeed in a criminal case than in the civil case against the company. After genetic testing indicated the driver was her child’s father, Means said she declined to seek child support because she did not want further interaction with him."
DNA tests have been used to nail rapists in the U.S. many years after the crime has been committed, so, if there's evidence that she got pregnant and has a child for this man, then he is the culprit and deserves to serve time in a correctional center as punishment. A good attorney would ensure this rapist gets punished for violating this woman despite being intoxicated.
Indeed, like you've stated here, there are many ways through which women have been raped for centuries by vile men and not just through being drunk. I have always been an advocate for chemical castration or even the real castration as punishments for this rapists around the world with hard labor as part of the punishment otherwise this will persist and women have to lead the way in ensuring there is stronger legislation in this area. The men will then know how serious the rape situation is.
Charisdesigns: The Answer you seek lies in two places 1) the floor plan 2)the nature of your land (sloppy or flat)
However for a basic 2bedrooms bungalow to finish, keep atleast 4m.
Attach is a 2 bedrooms designed by us with flat roof and construction cost is way above the 2m threshold
Pics 1 design Pics 2 build
It will also interest you to see how the nature of you land affects construction cost. check out our live construction thread of bungalow flats on a very sloppy land.
Enugurangers: I suspect she may avoid the desert and drive around it by following the west African coast instead. If you check her map. That is exactly what she is doing. There is no way that her small car would survive the Sahara.
Indeed, I saw that map too before I made my post here, but I was a bit concerned about the two countries that were indicated along her travel route, Mauritania and Mali. Mali has an Islamist insurgency going on right now with three Islamist groups battling to take over the central Malian government since the military took over the governance of that country. Even some Nigerian highways are not safe from vicious kidnappers and armed robbers as shown in the global media, so, she has to be fully aware of those routes until the security situation improves.
Like you indicated, she should just drive close to the West African coastline until she gets to her final destination.
When they arrived at her destination, the driver allegedly insisted on helping her inside, “purportedly due to her intoxication,” and despite her protests. Once inside, he assaulted her repeatedly, the complaint states.
My take on this: Simply run a full DNA test on all the probable Lyft drivers as of 2019 to detect the alleged rapist. If it matches the DNA of the baby, then you have the culprit. [This test has already been done and the culprit's DNA matches that of the child]. A boy has a right to know his real father though regardless of the circumstances surrounding his birth.
Women get intoxicated easily than men because they do NOT have the same amount of the body enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase that men have more of. Women have to take it easy on drinking alcohol when out clubbing or partying to avoid getting drunk and getting sexually assaulted or even killed afterwards by serial rapists. Period.
Last but not least, I have always been an advocate for severe punishments for rapists. Chemical castration with hard labor and public shaming must be implemented to serve as a deterant to potential rapists.
sukkot: My people I am tired of this fake lekki life. I Dey move go alapere ketu go rest. This fake lekki life has wound my bank akant but that’s not even the problem. The problem is that the food no Dey ever sweet. The food is always overpriced and rubbish. Tastes like something an amateur cooked. Anyway this particular one which is waffles and chicken is from a joint Total is 7500.
2 chickens waffle and Fanta . Total waste. Taste bland and dry and tedious . I think I am officially done eating out. It’s official. Am done
@the bolded.
Sukkot, where is the syrup topping for the waffles? Okay, I can see the syrup in the metal container clearly now. Was it maple syrup or another syrup substitute like honey?
They are probably cutting corners as the cost of purchasing ingredients increases alongside the general overhead costs. If the food wasn't bland, I'm sure you wouldn't mind paying that amount for the food served once in a while. Customer service is key... Period.
My verdict: The eatery will soon close shop if they don't get creative and deliver the best tasting foods just like the billionaire Chef 'Tolu Erogbogbo does in his Lagos and California eatery branches or outlets.
P.S. Aha! Sukkot, it's obvious you're NOT the only one who has complained about the "bland" chicken interior and general ambience of the place. The dude in the 2018 food article link below used exactly the word "bland" just like you did on this thread. Those guys have to wake up or close shop.
sukkot: 😄😄😄😄 inner ascendancy. That’s the perfect qualification hehe. It’s just something about Nigerians, or maybe I should say black people as a whole because it happens in African American forums too, they love to rush in just to disagree with you, absolutely nothing else to contribute but they just love to argue and disagree and tell you how much of a weed smoker you are 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. It’s hilarious . What can you do ? Just laugh and move on. It’s all great stuff though cuz like I said it takes all sorts. People enjoy being disagreeable. That’s their fun. So I let them catch their fun and I catch mine. Meanwhile Chief I believe that is a pivotal point in our history. It appears like a civil war is loading up within America. Opposing factions and troops are gathering in Texas to fight it out. The world has gone mad bro but I am here for it 😄. Top of the morning and happy new week to you Chief
Indeed, you're right about some African-American discussion boards (which I belonged to before even NL started in 2005). Some of the AAs and some Nigerians online like to ignorantly play victimhood a lot and get suspicious when you use colloquial or allegorical African words like "Akata" (which used as a Yoruba metaphor simply means any Black person (including Yoruba folks) living in the UK, Canada, U.S.A, etc, who has become Westernized, and is distinct from a Continental African-based person or "Ologbo." The "wild cat/black panther" or Akata in the forest versus the "domestic/house cat" or Ologbo) whose etymologies they know nothing about... They assume you're using slur words on them but some AAs are enlightened and know the truth. Even Latinos are not left out of the false accusations by some AAs over the use of some allegorical Latino words.
Teemuchafric1: Episode 2: Mobilization and Alliances
Nations prepared for war, forming alliances that would shape the course of battle. The mobilization of troops and resources signaled the beginning of a conflict that would span continents.
In the early years of the 20th century, the geopolitical landscape of Europe was a complex web of alliances and rivalries. The tensions among major powers were palpable, and the political maneuvers that unfolded set the stage for a conflict of unprecedented scale – the First World War.
The Gathering Storm
As whispers of war circulated through the halls of power, nations recognized the need to secure alliances that would strengthen their positions on the global stage. The intricate dance of diplomacy reached its zenith as nations formed alliances, creating a delicate balance that held the potential for both stability and catastrophe.
In the heart of this geopolitical chessboard were the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente comprised France, Russia, and the United Kingdom, while the Triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. These alliances were not mere paper agreements; they were complex webs of mutual defense pacts and political understandings that bound nations together.
The Mobilization Begins
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand served as the spark that ignited the flames of war. As tensions escalated, the nations within these alliances faced a critical juncture. The mobilization of troops and resources became the order of the day, a grim realization that war was not a distant possibility but an imminent reality.
The mobilization process was a monumental undertaking. Across Europe, the machinery of war rumbled to life. Reservists were called up, and conscription measures were enacted to bolster the ranks of standing armies. Factories shifted their focus to wartime production, churning out weapons, ammunition, and supplies at an unprecedented pace.
The Domino Effect
The mobilization efforts were not isolated events; they triggered a domino effect that reverberated across the continent. Germany, bound by its alliance with Austria-Hungary, declared war on Russia. In response, France, allied with Russia, found itself thrust into the conflict. The intricate web of alliances dictated the course of battle, transforming what could have been a localized conflict into a full-scale war involving multiple nations.
The scale of mobilization was staggering. Trains crisscrossed the continent, transporting troops to the front lines. Ports buzzed with activity as navies prepared for naval engagements. The mobilization was not only about soldiers but also about the mobilization of entire societies, as civilians on the home front contributed to the war effort through industry, agriculture, and various support roles.
The March to War
As the world watched in anticipation, the mobilization of troops and resources signaled the beginning of a conflict that would span continents. The march to war was relentless, and the alliances that had been formed in peacetime now dictated the alliances on the battlefield.
The mobilization and alliances of the First World War were a symphony of geopolitical maneuvering, military preparations, and societal transformations. The decisions made during this critical phase echoed through history, shaping the narrative of the war and influencing the destiny of nations.
In conclusion, the mobilization and alliances that preceded the First World War were not mere bureaucratic exercises; they were the building blocks of a global conflict that would leave an indelible mark on the 20th century. The decisions made in those crucial moments set the world on a path of unprecedented upheaval, testing the mettle of nations and redefining the concept of modern warfare.
