Teemuchafric1: The Spark - Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand - Escalation of hostilities
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand served as the spark that ignited the flames of war. The world watched as hostilities escalated, drawing nations into a conflict that would test their mettle and endurance.
In the quiet streets of Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, history took a sudden and fateful turn. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, embarked on a seemingly routine visit to the city. Little did he know that this ordinary day would become the catalyst for one of the most significant events in modern history.
As the Archduke's motorcade wound its way through the city, Gavrilo Princip, a young Bosnian Serb nationalist, lurked in the shadows, armed with a pistol and a determination to alter the course of the world. As the motorcade approached, Princip seized the moment, firing two shots that echoed through the quiet streets, forever changing the destiny of nations.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand served as the spark that ignited the flames of war. The news of his death sent shockwaves across Europe and beyond. The intricate web of political alliances and longstanding tensions erupted, drawing nations into a conflict that would reshape the global order.
The immediate aftermath of the assassination was a flurry of diplomatic activity. Austria-Hungary, seeking retribution for the death of its heir, issued an ultimatum to Serbia, accusing the nation of supporting the assassins. The demands were intentionally severe, designed to provoke a response that would justify military action.
As the diplomatic clock ticked away, the world held its breath. Serbia, unwilling to fully comply with the ultimatum, found itself facing the might of Austria-Hungary. Within days, the wheels of war were set in motion. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, triggering a cascade of alliances that drew other nations into the conflict.
Germany, bound by its alliance with Austria-Hungary, declared war on Russia. France, allied with Russia, found itself in the crosshairs of the German war machine. The intricate network of alliances, known as the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance, turned what began as a regional conflict into a full-scale world war.
The world watched as hostilities escalated, and the map of Europe was quickly stained with the blood of millions. The trenches of the Western Front became a symbol of the entrenched stalemate that characterized the early years of the war. Nations struggled to adapt to the brutal realities of modern warfare, where new technologies clashed with outdated tactics.
The war tested the mettle and endurance of soldiers and civilians alike. It brought unprecedented suffering and loss. From the muddy fields of Flanders to the desolate landscapes of Gallipoli, the First World War left an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of humanity.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was more than the death of a single individual; it was the spark that ignited a conflagration, reshaping the world in its wake. The war's impact extended far beyond the battlefield, influencing political ideologies, societal norms, and the global balance of power.
In conclusion, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand stands as a pivotal moment in history, a moment when a single gunshot reverberated across continents, setting off a chain reaction that would define an entire generation. It serves as a stark reminder of the fragile nature of peace and the far-reaching consequences of seemingly isolated events.
scally11: Pounds Don pass#1800 on lemfi and taptap. Now to send money to people in naija takes nothing from me. 260k self no pass 150£. All thanks to bulaba
This latest depreciation marks the sixth time the Naira has breached the N1,000/$ threshold, highlighting a persistent trend of weakness.
The first instance occurred on Friday, December 8th, 2023, when the currency reached a historical low of N1,099.05 per dollar. This was followed by a brief reprieve before a second depreciation on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, closing at N1,043.09 per dollar.
These developments represent a significant turning point for the Naira.
Oyebanji, who saluted former Governor Kayode Fayemi for deeming it fit to construct an International Cargo Airport in Ekiti, assured the people that the facility will be fully operational by July, 2024, saying the high level of technicalities involved in certification by relevant authorities have delayed the usage.
The airport is going to be a game changer in the running of our business and economy because it is the terminus for the Ekiti State Ring Road Phase One. What makes me happy is that, the corridor through which the Phase one is located will be developed. Besides this, we are also thinking of setting up a new Ado Ekiti town along that axis that can be properly developed".
A lot of folks in that crappy Punch article are NOT USD billionaires.
The Punch journalist and the editor who approved this mediocre article MUST be sanctioned by the management of the tabloid. The journalist and editor are both mediocrities for publishing these false and exaggerated net worth figures in a major newspaper. If it's not sourced from Forbes and the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, then disregard any other net worth figures. Period.
IbeOkehie: But the naira has NOT been floated. That is a clear and objective fact. The EVIDENCE is the difference between the REFULATED CBN RATE and the FREE MARKET or parallel market rate.
A floating currency has no regulated rate, the producer of that currency doesn't DICTATE or FIX its price. The producer is the Central Bank of the nation. They only set the INTEREST RATE at which they will lend out the currency, which is their right.
The Central Bank of the USA is the Federal Reserve. It doesn't FIX its currency price, that is, the price of USDollar.
Fixing currency price ALWAYS FAILS in the long run. The UK and Switzerland tried and failed. It doesn't work and worse, it distorts and harms the economy and productivity.
Look around the world, the most prosperous economies have FREE FLOATING currencies. All we have to do is COPY them. Ask yourself WHY a government would want to CONTROL currency price? Simple....round tipping.
If at all a country must regulate currency price, it's actually best to SUPPRESS the value of their currency because it makes their exports more competitive in the world market
Nigerians like to say "but we don't produce any thing for export" and that is the point. A devalued currency PROMOTES exports. With time, business people in a FREE MARKET will find appropriate goods and services to export. Right now, in our face, Nigerians are trying very hard to export LABOR because of the falling value of naira. Hellllooooo?
Again that's EVIDENCE...the free fall of the naira has REDUCED imports and promoted exports. Nigeria is definitely not importing the same amount of cars and shoes as it did when the naira was say 400/$.
The REAL PROBLEM in Nigeria is that the economy is NOT a free market. Government controls everything and that suppresses innovation and productivity too. LAND is a basic factor of production but ONLY GOVERNMENT can own land. And there's strong import bans and preferences enforced by government. These PREVENT business people from making good choices for investment.
It's important to state - the naira is still a regulated currency. The same Emefiele told us he floated the naira back in 2016.
And there's still a subsidy on petrol in Nigeria.
People please get some economic knowledge, it's important.
igbonla: Nice recipe! Amunututu is one of the best vegetable around, better prepared with little bit of egusi (melon). You wont eat this everyday so the little egusi is ok; this goes with all the solids (similar to the red hibiscus - isapa).
Where can I find the seed, need to plant some?
Bump. That's interesting. So, isapa is red hibiscus.
ManirBK: According to the BBC, 32 items are returning under the loan arrangement. The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is lending 17 pieces and 15 are from the British Museum.
Iran is already consolidating on her high technological advancement which is clearly impressive.
Centuries back, the Persians (now Iran) had an advanced civilization and a vast empire under the Shah han Shahs (or King of Kings) such as the Emperors Cyrus the Great and Darius. So, that history of achievements still persists till this day and age.
Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, inaugurated the N1 billion Export Processing & Packaging Centre (EPPC) at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, on Friday. The facility aims to enhance cargo exports.
Keyamo assured NAHCO PLC of continued support in the cargo export business, emphasising revenue growth.
The Minister noted that with advanced equipment and expertise, challenges in exporting perishable goods will diminish, including shelf life, temperature control, packaging, handling, and regulatory compliance.
These guys are now using Iranian-supplied attack drones with devastating effect. The invasion of Southern Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023 also had strong attack drones input from Hamas which they used to knock off the transmitters of the defense system (the Defense Dome) of Israel.
mariahAngel: A sequel to the Weirdest food combo thread, in this thread, let us know your favourite food combo. What combination of foods get your taste buds excited?
Mine are: Beans and dodo (soft fried plantains). Fried eggs and plantains. Jollof rice and beans.
yunfazz: When it comes to food, trust me some Nigerians do know how to combine but some food combinations marvel me and i begin to wonder how some enjoy eating such combinations. Some strange combinations i have come across include the following (if you have been a student of tertiary institutions, you would also agree with some):-
1. Rice and Yam with Okro Soup: Rice is highly rich in carbohydrates so also is yam and adding the 'draw' feel of Okra; known in many English-speaking countries as 'lady's fingers' is a "balanced diet" combination for those who eat such. Please don't puke if the mere picturing this food combination irritate you
2.Indomie and yam: Just pass by most mallam food sellers at night especially in parts of Lagos and you see some northern and Niger folks eating this combination after a tedious work day. Like P-sqaure would say, 'haba habactically!'
3. Ewedu, Egusi, Efo Riro, Bitterleaf Soup Combination: I know some may argue this but it's definitely true. Some even do worse combination and you wonder how they wouldn't have stomach 'earthquake or diarrhea.
4. Pounded Yam/Amala/Eba/Fufu with fried egg: We are used to eating meat, fish or other protein with these staple food but in the absence of the mentioned protein, some would eat fried egg to 'balance it'. At least, protein na protein
5. Concotion rice with Garri: This usually is the practice in students' campuses - especially during exams time when 'owu don blow person' - during which money and food are scarce and everyone seem to be in examination mood. During this period, most are even thankful for something to eat!
6. Garri and maltina: Since Garri (processed cassava flour) which is almost entirely carbohydrate, it is then good to step it down with very rich multivitamin drink, isnt it?
7. Bread and Plantain: Since people eat hot-dog, preparing and eating customized African hot-dog is not bad after all!
4. Pounded Yam/Amala/Eba/Fufu with fried egg: We are used to eating meat, fish or other protein with these staple food but in the absence of the mentioned protein, some would eat fried egg to 'balance it'. At least, protein na protein
Maxwell775: u don try fried egg featuring Eba before? E sweet die
You're probably right. If boiled yams, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, unripe plantains, etc, which are carbohydrates are delicious and go well with well garnished fried eggs in curry, thyme, seasoning cubes, pepper, and more, then the eba and fried egg combo might just pass the test.
If boiled yams (which taste intensely good when eaten with fried eggs) are turned into pounded yams, would people say eating it with fried eggs is also weird?
Boiled yams and pounded yams => Same food type.
Boiled unripe plantains and pounded unripe plantains=> Some food type.
It's only a sense of adventure that has led to the creation of some now world-famous cuisines and food combos. The California-based billionaire Chef 'Tolu Erogbogbo thrives on this principle of food creativity and food fusion cookery which have made him popular in Lagos and California.
So, I've been seeing some posts around lately, stating that this combo (picture below) is "poisonous", and I was like how naa? 🙄
Thing is, this combo is one of my favorites because not only is it so delicious, it is also very filling, and I am not about to give it up for whatever reason.
So, what is your take on this? Do you like this combo? Would you give up eating it?
What food combo do you enjoy the most?
Pictures' source: Instagram
Beans and fried plantains (dodo) is "poisonous? That opinion from those saying so is a complete load of B.S.
I began to like pressure cooker made beans and dodo combo from my teenage years decades back. Nothing beats the soft texture of beans cooked in a pressure cooker and fried plantains or boiled unripe plantains. Period.
On the other hand, I like smokey basmati party jollof rice (infused with bay leaves), dodo and turkey combo a lot... I eat that every week.
Second is basmati fried rice, dodo, and turkey (or grilled salmon fish) combo.
The price of 1 kilogram (Kg) of rice increased year-on-year, YoY, by 81 percent to N917.93 in December 2023 from N506.17 in the corresponding period of 2022.

timsbee: Ingredients: noddles,veg oil,carrots,green pepper,onions and a little water.

Stir fry this and add d noddles seasoning into the fries.lastly, add the soaked noodles into the fried veggies and stir evenly. And viola ur meal is ready. Garnish with any kind of meat.
Bump. That's a nice post... I like the creative simplicity in making the noodles and stir-fried veggies combo.
I'm glad help came at last for Tanya Okpala ( born in 1982). I remember she used to play lawn tennis as a kid alongside her sister Katya Okpala back in the 1990s and schooled in the U.S.
I must commend the guy who did the video and intelligently asked her questions which made her reveal her identify as Tanya. Though she was well-spoken in the video, she obviously needs some professional mental health therapy and hard drugs detox. She deflected a question the man in the video asked her to know if she's on any recreational drugs.
Jewessgratitud3: It is disheartening to see what people parade this days as party jollof rice. it's either too dry or too grainy and tasting of too much sachet spices of all kinds found in the market these days. That is no longer party jollof but Chinese or Indian rice. As an Olopo/Caterer, the way we were taught, the real Nigerian jollof doesn't require any of those spices or seasonings. Just the basics to allow every other ingredient give their flavor. We learnt from the best. From Old women using firewood. Not your gas and electric cookers.
The old jollof that I ate growing up is not too dry. Very moist and sometimes the grains stick together to form lumps when dishing it. Any party jollof without this lumpy part is not party jollof. Na you know wetin you cook.
So the basic seasoning for this are Garlic and little ginger ,👉these go into the meat only. Not in your rice.
Knorr cubes Tiger Curry cup and thyme Bayleaf That's all.
Pepper mix
1. Dry pepper. This is the main secret ingredient of jollof rice Smokey taste. A lot of people don't use this but they don't know it is the first step to building the smokey flavor.
2. Tatase this adds color to your jollof
3. Rodo pepper this has its own unique flavor and aroma it blends with the oil to give the whole food.
4.&5 Tin tomato or tomato paste. This also enhances the tomato flavor of your jollof. Then your fresh tomatoes.
Please don't ever use garlic and ginger inside your rice. Use it for only seasoning of meat then use the meat stock to cook your rice.
Season the meat with curry, thyme, seasoning cubes, onions blended garlic and ginger. Don't add water, let it simmer for some minutes before adding water to cook the meat properly.
Blend all the pepper mix above with some onions and Parboil.
Fry the meat. Use the oil from frying the meat to fry your tin tomatoes (add more oil if needed) the oil must be above the tomatoes to fry very well ( you can always scoop out excess and enjoy with yam some other time) when it's well fried, add the parboiled tomatoes and bayleaf. Then add half of the meat stock and seasoning cubes to your stew and continue fry until it is dry and the oil is floating on top of the stew. At this stage you can scoop out little to sauce the meat or chicken.
Note I didn't add thyme again because thyme can be very overpowering and spoil things. So I'll just stick with the one from the meat stock.
Time to cook the rice.
Add fresh oil to a clean pot on the fire. Add onions, curry and bayleaf and begin to scoop the fried stew into the hot oil and stir for a few mins.
Add the remaining meat stock and test to be sure everything is ok. Add more water to cook your rice cover and allow it to boil very well. This prevent mushy rice.
Wash your rice with hot water and add to the boiling water.. cover and allow to done. Keep checking until the water is completely dried and the rice is soft. Then add more stew, slice some onions, cover and reduce the heat so it can soften with the steam.
Open and add butter to it. Cover for a few mins and turn off the heat. Stir the rice. Voila! Party jollof is ready.
Try this recipe and you'll get that party jollof of old.
Spices no be party jollof o.
Nice post... This is the real deal smokey party jollof rice with the evergreen bay leaves infused and a little more. I like eating the smokey basmati party jollof rice (and basmati fried rice) every week... It's become an addiction for me.

StagethemTVee: A client and her family were left in shock when they found the caterer they hired for their event had stacked away a huge portion of fried meat and fish meant for guests at the event.
The most interesting part was the caterer and her team kept telling guests the meat had finished at the party. This was what really upset the family that contracted the caterer for the event.
