How or why is it "lucky" not to have your "tribe" accent

Is there anything shameful about your "tribe"?

Do you really know the meaning of the word "tribe"?
Some have called me ibo ,some have called me delta ,some have called me Yoruba. The mystery is what makes it "lucky". If a second civil war should break out ,I can just blend in anywhere depends on who they are fishing out.

And I would like you to point out where I said I was ashamed of my tribe or you just want to be silly?

So you consider yourself lucky because you don't sound like people from your tribe?
Nope because I can't be pinned to any tribe. some think I am ibo ,some call me delta ,some even call me Yoruba. I love the mystery.Remember people were fished out and killed during the civil war just by their accent. To those people their accent sent them to their graves ,so those without an accent as at that time will definitely consider themselves lucky.

Did you know that even with Sign language there are "accents"
Is that so? tell me more ,I am genuinely curious.

Well I am one of the lucky ones that don't have my tribe accent ,when I tell people where I am from, the response I usually get is " but you don't sound like people from there". Even the pidgin accent leads people to make wrong assumptions about my state of origin.

You know he was joking about the evil forest part. But let me ask you, is this example typical of how it works? No it is not!

But even at that, still using your example, your point is defeated because at the end of the day, the primary intended beneficiary was the brides' mother, a woman. The implication is, the mother was happy with it. The girl was happy with it. No one resisted it. Because women have always been happy with the institution.

Therefore, as I posited, bride price was never an exclusively male creation. It was always a joint societal creation, and it is one whose extinction is primarily resisted by women today.
The same bride price that made men think they bought a commodity? who ever told you women were happy with it? who and who did you get this statistics from?

And by the way ,I am not dumb not to know he was joking with the evil forest thing ,the colonists free you africans from that bondage along time ago.

Obviously the primary beneficiary would have been the bride's father of he were alive because in the case of absentee fathers , they seek out the father to come and collect bride price even if he didn't contribute a dime ,so in this case it's very clear the father is dead , and so the beneficiaries automatically became the elders made up of kinsmen in the family.

. obviously not all traditions are feasible in this era...perhaps, if the tradition favours women, you will see it as good?..in the western world and some developed countries , femincentric legislations are made to encourage misandry, hypergamy etc..I'm sure you won't see those laws as barbaric or bias..
laws are different from what you africans regard as culture and traditions.

Look at it this way. As a premise let us agree that a custom will die out if it does not have enough people in support of it. Following this, we can also make a basic assumption, reasonably inferring that no young man would have enjoyed having to transfer his wealth to another in the name of marriage. The beneficiaries, therefore, were the receiving men, and not all men. This means that at least half of the male society at any given point in time would have likely opposed brideprice.

If women did not accept the bride price paying institution, then the totality of women and the half of men who rejected it, would have outnumbered the few men who did accept it. Under this climate, mothers would have stood up to their husbands. Girls would have defied their fathers. The practice would have died.

However, it ha ssurvived. That suggests widespread societal acceptance of the majority, as against the few who we can infer were against the practice (young men of marriageable age).

Logic supports these deductions. Women of that time had nothing to lose in the transaction. It was the man who paid. On the other hand, it was a thing of pride for a woman if her man was seen as wealthy.
Let's take the example of this particular case , even the bride's brother didn't get anything and he is even afraid of speaking up lest they send him to the evil forest.

I am sure his father benefited from the bride price of others ,and others are here to eat from his daughter ,and I am sure this young man complaining will one day be like "they ate from my sister" me too go eat, and so that is how it has survived ,the culprit here is the greed of the average black man. No one wants to be short changed ,try it now you will hear" you are other people's own ,now you daughter is of age ,you want to abolish it ".

Stop being rude and stupid at the same time.

My brother married recently in Imo State. There were men's list, women's list, mother's list, father's list and the bride price. We decided to do it with money. The men collected N120,000 only while the women collected N110,000 and insisted we still buy some items from the list.
I have forgotten the exact cost of father's list and the mother's list.

The bride price is separate from those lists hence neither the mother nor the women were left empty handed nor were they cheated.
Again who asked you for sharing formula ,or you are too daft? let's not not forget that it's the same sharing formula that created this thread.

I am just concerned about how it all started ,but if your brain cells are not ready for that conversation, do well to exit my mention.

What kind of nonsense question is this?

Why not ask God who specifically instructed parents in the Holy Books with the command "when you give out your daughter, so and so should be" or ask your parents.
It's nonsense cos you lack the sense to come up with an answer. The holy book was brought to your ancestors in one hand and dane guns in the name other,so next time you want to make reference stick to your origin.

You can't ask me that because I never asserted that there was any such agreement. Rather the poster I quoted did.

In any case, your response is premised on a binary way of looking at things: that it was either men or women who made the agreement and it is not possible that it was both men and women who did so!

The question is, who stood to gain? Was it not majorly the girl's parents collectively?
The girls parents where according to history the man was responsible for decision making in a patriarch society.

This is incomplete misinformation and a lie.

The mother usually have her separate list containing requirements for the marriage including monetary rewards (given to the husband to be) exclusive to the mother alone. The mother's entitlement is for her alone hence the N5000 is an addition.
The question is who started the bride price system? No one asked you about sharing formula.

There is nothing wrong in paying bride price. In Kalabari where my elder brother married from women negotiates and collects the bride price. The men only sit and eat/drink. Stop being myopic
This is the problem with idiots who jump into conversations. Did you properly read the comment I replied to before spewing this trash? If your elder brother likes let him use 1 billion to pay bride price ,that's your cup of tea. The bone of contention with the person I replied to was "who started the bride price system" men or women. Next time if you don't have your fact don't blabber in my mentions again.

Men are their own enemies.

I am sure when they stayed and agreed to be paying “bride price” abi huge marriage list, they forgot that someone like Buhari would be a democratic president. They also never foresaw that $1= N478 or graduates would turn 31 without stable jobs.

Now that the economy is choking them and restricting their airflows, they are now forming online bro-code and looking for imaginary feminist that will go stop a practice they put in place for their own ever-needy-ego.

You’ll still see same charlatans insulting other Nigerian tribes that are civil enough to conduct marriages like what it is- the coming together of two consenting adults, not an empowerment program.

That gender can never be understood.

If not that God is all knowing, they almost confused Him when He asked a simple question in the Garden of Eden.

You mean men gathered somewhere and agreed to be paying bride price? How does this boost our egos in anyway?

With or without bride price a woman is traditionally expected to submit in every known culture and tradition across Nigeria.

I personally don't require submission as such and I certainly don't intend to pay bride price but I have found that once you voice such opinions the greatest resistance is from women who feel that only broke men complain about bride price.
Are you implying that women sat down and decided to be collecting bride price? you and I know this decision was unanimously agreed upon in a village meeting of brown teethed snuff sniffing ancestors and I can swear on buhari's life that women were not present in that meeting.
