I have seen this twice now in transcripts, if your host is an Legal Permanent Resident in the US, you should request for supporting documents from him or her. I think those are the only documents that are easily verifiable. Also know how he or she entered the US, that helps too.
They dont need any document to verify that, all they require is the persons name and DOB and with that they will get the details they need, besides you guys keep crucifying people who went to the embassy with documents and now this! If the USA need to verify anything all they need is just info, forget all these document matter.

all you need to advise the guy is to say that he is aware that the embassy do not encourage presenting documents for tourist visa therefore he didnt see it necessary to come with it however if he can be permitted to return with it that he will go get it. then if he is not granted the chance atleast he tried.

Funny that you can't see your error.. You keep hammering about your brother who is a permanent residence but you have no evidence of that.. He should provide you with his passport page, Resident paper etc so that the embassy can reach him and verify the information. Since you failed to do that what do you expect?
I thought you guys keep mentioning here that no documents are checked! How come this?

Hello.

Thanks to the person who started this thread.
On the visa application form for B2, I filled 30days and I got 2 years. But now, am going for as long as 8months (I bought a return ticket from September 12 to April 27). Will that be an issue when am being asked how long?

Secondly, what's the minimum am expected to have as PTA for that long period. I know it's $4000 per quarter.

Thank you!!!
AH! you this sombody you are playing with fire o! so you want all the money you spent for visa and ticket as well as all your time to waste just like that? in this hard time "in datigbogurl's voice'. Bikonu dont try it o. Stick to the duration you filled on your DS160 form then when you are in the USA you change your return date to few days to the exipration of your stamped date.

to before warned is......... complete it.

All the best

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to invite my dad over to the UK for 2 months, I'll be sponsoring his trip as he's retired. He has previously visited the UK but was denied US visit visa a couple of years ago. Can you guys help clarify the points below?

- I have £2k in a savings acct and will send my savings bank statement to him, unable to send my current acct as I don't leave money there. Is it advisable to state I'll be supporting his trip in the range of £1500-£2000 as this means I'm ready to use all the money in the savings acct, do you reckon the eco won't find an issue with this?
- is £2k enough for 2 months?
- I transferred about 200k into his savings late June, thinking of printing his statement after that transaction so we don't have to explain source or do I need to add a note that I transferred this to him?
- I'll state in the invitation letter that he currently lives with my Mum and 2 of my siblings with their Children lives in the same city with him and they are planning his 69th birthday upon his return. home country ties?

- Documents from me

- Bank Statement
- SU07 sponsorship declaration if required, can someone confirm if this is required?
- BRP & Data Page
- Invitation letter confirming sponsorship, accommodation. This will also indicate he's been in UK previously and he didn't break any immigration laws
- 3 months payslip

- Documents from Dad
- Pension docs, retirement letter
- 6 months Bank statement where pension is paid into monthly (no money in this acct)
- 2/3 months - Savings bank statement with about 200k in it.

Do I need to add anything to the above docs?

Many thanks!!!!!
I will suggest you reduce the amount to say £700 so that it wouldnt look like you are spending all you savings on his trip and you will not give the VO the impression that your dad may likely stay back. Also reduce his stay to 1 month,

Let him also submit his statement of account and please explain any large cash lodgement or recent deposit as submitting acct statement alone is not sufficient, you still have to explain the transactions on the statement especially unexplainable logdements. Please permit my typo.

All the best

Hi guys, I need the gurus in house to help with a situation. I just renewed my Nigerian passport, but my expired/cancelled passport is currently carrying a valid uk visa. Now my question is this, can I travel with the valid visa by attaching my new passport to the expired/ cancelled passport which is carrying the valid visa? Looking forward to your speedy responses.
Yes you can certainly travel with both passport as long as your visa is valid and you have a valid passport even if the valid passport does not carry the valid visa.

What you cannot do is travel on an expired passport with a valid visa
TravelRe: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by ladylco: 6:50am On Sep 10, 2017
From a reliable source, I learnt that the new consular assigned to Nigeria CIC has been refusing applicants even those who are well qualified i.e those with good jobs, well travelled with valid US, UK Schengel visas. that only on rare cases that she issues visas and she has 3 years to go as she was newly posted lasted year. Am thinking, that explains the high rate of refusal since early last year till date.

I don't want to believe this is true sha, but i will advise you try other countries if you really must go for vacation and save that visa fee for your shopping in countries that are willing to grant visa

I wish all applicant this best

Once, I went for the US visa interview after a failed attempt two years prior. My first application was fraught with bogus claims and huge misrepresentations.

I didn't even earn anything near what I claimed, wasn't married as indicated. All of these were at the instance of an agent hired by my Dad and coupled with his strong desire to see me cross the divide.

I was flatly denied, much to my own delight cos I wasn't quite comfortable with the huge lies.

In my second application, I decided to come clean because I wanted to clear the misrepresentation. I could be called to travel for work anytime and if I was refused based on prior application, it would be a huge dent on my integrity.

Off I went to embassy with the utmost aim of clearing myself and not necessarily to secure the visa. Here's my transcript:

VO: Good Morning. Pass me your passport. Where are you going to?
Me: I'm going to California (Big gaffe! I was going to Ohio but was fixated on my previous application where California was the intended destination)
VO: Why are you going to California?
Me: I'm going to attend my cousin's wedding and also spend my annual leave, a month long. I haven't gone on leave in the last two years and I think I should reward myself for working that long. (At this point, I realized my error and seized the opportunity to correct my destination and talk extensively about my first application. I told him about all the misrepresentations, affirmed my single status, dispelled the salary claims and every other wrong information therein. The VO nodded his head and started smiling at this point)
VO: Next, he asked: where do you work?
Me: I work with xxxxx, a marketing communications company at the level of Deputy Manager
VO: How long have you been working?
Me: 4 years in my current profession
VO: How long have you been working with your current company?
Me: 2 years now
VO: You've worked elsewhere before?
Me: Yeah, started my career with xxxx but I also worked in xxxx, my father's company which was responsible for my initial application. (Another opportunity to further discuss the first denial. Told him about the company and why I left)
VO: Tell me about your job (Another opportunity to talk about my enjoyable job. At this point, it had become a friendly chat. He was quite intrigued by my responses. It further strengthened my confidence and I was coasting. He even leaned forward and we maintained eye contact all through. I told him about past project, current and upcoming ones)
VO: Nice. So you're going to Ohio for your cousin's wedding?
Me: Yeah and to spend my leave too (We we're both chuckling here)
VO: Are you married or engaged? He asked again)
Me: No, I'm not married or even engaged! I'm very single. (He laughed)
VO: Ok, I believe you, I believe you. I'll approve your visa now. This paper explains how to pick your visa in the next three days.
Me: Thank you

I walked out without looking back, emotionless. To be honest, I wasn't carried away. I wasn't even listening to the security guy who was hailing me. I just rushed out. I had a meeting to attend.

I insisted on coming clean on all misrepresentations despite people telling me to maintain a lie. For me, when you tell a lie, you need a bigger lie to cover it up. Since another opportunity has presented itself to come clean, why don't I take it?

The outcome will be dependent on the VO. To be honest, I wasn't really bothered if I was gonna get the visa or not. I wasn't fidgety or nervous. I just wanted to get it over with and clear my mind and for future applications.

Quite honestly, I did say a simple prayer that morning on my way. I said God should not let me fail where others have succeeded. I said this because I believe in God and my colleague had secured his even though he was my subordinate and earned way below what I earned.

I'm sharing this here because I owe it a duty to this forum and this section in particular. I have been here a long time and I read this section and US visa threads extensively for that application. The outcome? A success! I had never been outside Nigeria before when I secured this visa.

Let me just add this, visa applications and interviews are no big deals. Not at all! Fill your form yourself; you're in control. Be articulate in answering the questions. State all facts clearly and be honest. Stick to same story at your interview.

My POE is another experience all together. I made it to secondary inspection at JFK...lol grin
Congratulations. Nice!

Tussle with officials at the MMIA, Lagos

I travelled on August 8 for the Youth Assembly at the UN in New York; I flew EgyptAir from Lagos to Cairo to JFK. The EgyptAir officials (the ones that check your passport and bag, not the ticketing officers) at MMIA tried all they could to make me not travel. But as a journalist and human rights activist that I is, they had no choice but to let me. They were just looking for excuses to stop me or they simply wanted gbalamu, which I was not prepared to give anybody.
First they asked why I was travelling to the US, I told them I was attending a conference. They asked what type, I said UN Youth Assembly. I guess because of my small body they scrutinised me well and asked for my IV letter and passport. I gave them. They asked for my hotel reservation, I gave them too. They did not know what else to say. Three different officials inspecting me, trying to point out a flaw in my documents. But they could not find any. Then they asked how much I had with me. I told them $350 cash, but that I had my VISA card with me. And besides, I had already pre-booked for my expenses before traveling, including hotel reservation and return flight from JFK to Austin and JFK. Then they saw their opportunity, and immediately told me I wouldn't be travelling as I needed to carry up to $2000 on me. I told them there was no way I was going to carry that amount of cash on me. It was not my first, second or third time of traveling out of the country. What's the use of the VISA card and cashless policy. Even the Americans don't carry such amount of money on them. They said it is a rule. I had to argue with them and told them part of the UN safety guidelines for conference attendants was that we should avoid carrying plenty cash. They said I should show them the email. I brought out my phone to show them and they said I must print it out. I went to print two pages of the email for N2,000 to show them. They insisted I should give them the copy I printed. I told them there was no way I was going to spend that amount to print just two pages of email, which they made me do, and still expect me to leave it with them. I went and made photocopies and brought it back to them. They started another round of scrutiny. Then finally snapped all the documents I gave them, gave me back and asked me to go check in. I was really angry that I spent over 25 mins arguing with them. I went, checked in and proceeded to my gate. I got to the first immigration guy, he took my passport and customs declaration form. After going through it, he asked for their "own share". I said share of what. He said I have to drop something for them. I said I don't have anything to drop. He kept my passport aside and attended to a lady after me. Then he asked where I was going and why I was traveling, I told him. He asked my profession, I said journalism. Then he handed me my passport.
I proceeded to the other two immigration officers who were supposed to stamp me out. The first man looked at me then asked where and why I was traveling. I told him. He said which media do I work for. I told him I used to write for PUNCH but resigned few months ago and I now manage a lifestyle magazine. He said ok and gave me my passport. Then I moved to the second officer who asked same questions, I told her. She asked if I was a student (I get that a lot because of my baby face). I smiled and told her I am a journalist. She asked how old I am, I said I'd be turning 30 on September 16. She said I don't look it. She asked if I'm married, I said no, but that my younger brother is married. She asked what I was waiting for and all that; I laughed and told her things happened blah blah blah. She was jovial and we chatted a bit then she said God bless you. I moved. Then, after passing through the security, the immigration guy just asked me where, why I was traveling and how much I had with me. I had had enough, I simply blurted out $350 cash and $1700 on my visa. He let me go. I heaved a sigh of relief.

Flight experience

EgyptAir flight from Lagos to Cairo was not the best flight experience I've had so far in my travel history. The flight attendants never smiled at all. They acted as if they were being forced to do their jobs. I remember someone tapped one of the attendants to ask them a question and he just turned and asked why he tapped him. To me, that was not courteous of a flight attendant. I don't like to be touched in public or when someone behind me on a queue at an ATM needs to ask me a question, but if I was being paid as a flight attendant, it should come with the job. The aircraft itself was bleh. We left Lagos at 1:25pm and got to Cairo at past 8 I think (difference in time zone factored in). It was a five hour flight. We waited at the transit area for a little above one hour before we were transported to the hotel. Layover was 12 hours. The hotel was good. Dinner was really nice two. Breakfast included. Next morning, we were on our way to JFK. Flight attendants from Cairo to JFK were really nice. 11+ hours flight. Entertainment system was really good. Only issue I had was that the adjustable knob for my seat was broken and I sat in upright position for 11+ hours. Then the old man behind me wouldn't stop coughing...and the tall guy in front of me wouldn't stop adjusting his seat. But as the fearless Naija that I is, I kept cautioning him. We left Cairo at past 9am and got to JFK at 3:15pm. Immediately the pilot touched down and started taxiing, all the MENAs in the plane started clapping. I was like "Is that how you pipu use tu do? Issorai"

JFK POE Experience

I really did not waste time at the POE. I disembarked from the plane. Went straight to immigration. Joined the queue people on B1/B2 visa. I used the electronic CBT to fill in my details. Then when it got to my turn, I went in to face the immigration officer.

Officer: *smiling* Good afternoon. Passport please and why are you in the US.

Me: *smilingback* Good afternoon. I'm attending the Youth Assembly at the United Nations.

Officer: How long are you here for?

Me: I'm here till the 29th of August.

Officer: *stampsmypassport* Enjoy your stay

Me: thank you

I went to carry my box, then took the Airtrain to NYC subway station, bought my weekly ticket and proceeded to my hotel.

I left NY after the conference to Austin. I'm due back in Naija next week.

Meanwhile, anyone with useful info or thread link to Italian visa processing and POE experience for Italy. I'm due to travel two weeks after I return to Naija for a UNESCO conf and all the visa application threads I saw are not current and are about Italian visa delays. The visa takes 15 business days minimum for processing and I have just 10 days before the date I'm supposed to travel.
dont bother applying through italy, time is very short and they can delay application or can even refuse you for no reason. Try through Germany and explain during the interview that you have limited time

Hello all.
I'm in process of renewing my b1/b2 visa that was expired March 2017, which has been used twice.
I intend to secure b1/b2 visa for my wife and daughter as well for family vacation, i know they will have to go for interview because they have not been to the USA before. My question is. Do i need to go with them for the interview? or i should just do a Dropbox for my re-newer and let them go for their interview aftermath?
Please, i need more advice and steps to take before proceeding further, Lastly our last vacation was last year October/November to South Africa.
Thanks
Do you renewal via dropbox and let your wife and kid go for their interview afterwards

hi justwise, in my knowledge and personal experience, the most a VO can do is to request the applicant provides a more recent bank statement him/herself, in a given time frame which is mostly a week for CIC, to support his case and clear the VO's doubts which the VO will then verify again. a VO will most likely not deny an applicant's application because the individual's financial institution verified his bank documents are legit but refused to disclose his/her most recent balance. he has no right to request for that information from the bank and the bank surely has no right to disclose it either. he has immigration laws he judges his applications by. i am certain of this. the risk here is that if he takes out his money, which is not a good idea, and the VO requests a recent bank statement, then he's in trouble. but this is life and something genuine can come up which he needs some of his money for. he cant leave all his money in a bank for a sticker and hope life problems solve themselves. a VO knows that too. i already mentioned it was not a good plan.
Certainly, with over 10 years financial institution experience. never have I sumble on any embassy seeking for balance on an account, the higest they do is scan the statement of account presented to us to confirm its authencity not confirmation of the transactions in the account without any autorisation duly signed by the account holder. The bank owe its customer a duty of secrecy. Only law enforcement agencies are privy of this information without any restriction.
