Mom and baby, RIP cry
So one single OPC is better than the who equivalent of Area E and their DPO?
Why are we then wasting money on these criminals and liars?

Why not just enlist these "authentic OPC" marshals for security.
I think the banks have a better idea of what to do now. undecided undecided

Mrs. Ndirieka was first rushed to a nearby hospital in Festac Town where she was rejected. All pleas made to the hospital to treat her was rebuffed. At this point, Ndirieka had lost a lot of blood and was losing consciousness.
I want to sponsor a Bill which make it criminal and punishable for manslaughter, if ANY HOSPITAL refuse to offer FIRST AID TREATMENT to any distressed Bullet Victim brought to them.... when robber or not.

You treat first (to save life), detain the person and alert the Police immediately.
Maybe that innocent woman will be alive today, if not for the insanity in this country's medical field.

Any supporters? I guess we need about a Million vote or so, to start a private Bill since our Senators are too daft to harp on something like this. angry angry

It will actually. I'm interested in all d histrionics surrounding Y2K. When and how did u decide to turn off your emergency response plan? And if Y2k really exploded were d banks really ready and capable of coping?
You talked about been asked to be available by email when vacationing. Considering that at d time d only means of getting online outside d office was from rickety cyber cafés how were u able to remotely check your emails given terrible speeds and security risks.

I'm asking cos now we take all of this for granted but they must have been really big issues back in d day

#curiosITnerd
Saw this late!
But l will be very brief, its 2:30am! Madam does not enjoy me sneaking out of bed and going online! undecided

Its all about the date. Back then, teh "year" of a date was represented in just "two digits" YY (as opposed to four digits now YYYY).
It was caused primarily by shortsight and the fact that the computer age started long ago in the 19th century and we never actually bothered to think year 2000 will come, with it sown peculiar nature.
Since around 1930, the year was designated "30" at the software level
Up till 1999, it was 99.
Now,recall that the computer codes are in binary form, i.e strings of zeroes and ones (0,1,1,0,1,1,1,0,,0,0,).
This in itself, has meaning in computer codes, signalling and calculations. In Boolean Logic, a "0" means "off" while a "1" means "ON".
Computers contain a lot of these Logic gates inside Integrated Circuits, in making "Logic & Boolean decisions".

I am trying to explain it well but not get too technical or write an essay on it so pls understand.

Now, as we approach the year 2000, it means for example, the "date" on my server (which also controls a lot of activities as for example, some softwares will not run if "machine-date" is "past" or wrong!) ... will change from 99, to be "re-set to 00" ( A sort of starting point) since only two locations are reserved for the year on the computer! .
That Server will reboot and software on it will go haywire.

On the software level, some of our Customer accounts will get muddled-up. For example, for someone re-paying a loan with accruing interest, "Date" is used to "cycle" the calculation and tell the system a month has ebded and therefore, charge/debit the customer x-y-z amount.
If the date is set to "00", the software has not instruction code embedded, that would recognize that as year 2000, rather it wil terminate the program/instruction and customer is not debited.
Same goes for the credit side. this is a very "basic graphic description" for simplicity

Thus, it was going to be a massive "breakdown" of the banking system and other computer-based systems like Power lines, Billing systems, e.t.c.
Some even said the world was going to come to an end and an educated person like myself occasionally gets tempted to look out of the window from my 6th floor office window when it was "happy new year", just in-case
grin grin

We started very early (4months ahead) with a technical group that identified all possible areas and we then began to "amend those codes" on the software level.
some banks called in their foreign partners (banking Software owner) while some that have the in-house experienced hands, did it in-house.
Much depends on the type of Banking software you are using (Phoenix, bankMaster, e.t.c)

We also had a back-up system in place (Server duplication and replication, Fail-over systems, e.t.c) such that if what we did (amandment) fails, we will simply go back to Yesterday (Dec 31, 1999), maintain the status-quo until we can figure out what to do. In the mean-time, we will result to "manual transaction" for attending to customers (Ledgers, Customer Accnt Balance, balance sheet, e.t.c)
! grin grin

Yes, we were ready and we did limit the damage but the amount of money and human effort, not to mention the "fear" that went into it, is better imagined.

I still have a "Purple Hale Clipper" that the office gave to me with the inscription Y2K emblazoned on it, as a souvenir, from back then.
Then it was so cool and unique!
I was also promoted that January and compensated extra, for the additional effort put-in during that period. Not just me, but every mgt staff that was involved.

As for being available when l was on my annual leave, l had to leave my persona Email addy with the bank. I check that regularly.
My vacationing was all-expenses paid for, by the bank (with tickets for my family to holiday abroad). Now, in those countries l go (U.K, U.S, European Countries like France at a time), checking E-mail was not that difficult as their exposure at that time was better than ours. I am refering to the 1990's/ early 2000's now, .....not 1920! grin

Okay, it was still slow (dial-in Modem)... but we also had the first set of Mobile phones back then (090 number), it was damn expensive but office paid for it.

Hope l have been able to answer you question a bit.
Gat to go now as l think Madam just turned around to discover that Husband is missing from her bedside! shocked shocked

Cheers.

This happened to my Big Sis. (though not blood related) she's a Sister to me. I was one of her bridal train.

After four years of marriage with a child(3 years) armed robbers came to their home. They loot away all of their valuables and raped her (three of them). Her husband was made to watch the whole show.
.
She was taken to the hospital and properly treated. And she was back to normal, No STDs.
But ever since, (it's been over 6 months now) her husband have refused to 'Touch' her.
When he was confronted, he said he couldn't bear to sleep with her after having to watch another man Making love to her. The family had set in but all to no avail.

Now, she's feeling miserable and even wish the robbers had killed her. I feel very upset and sorry for her.
Mummys and Daddys in the house, any advice on how to overcome thishuh
Has anyone experience suchhuh
Please help, your advice are needed.

Cc. Lalasticlala, Dominique Abeg do the needful.
The man's reaction is not only PSYCHOLOGICAL.... but Natural.

Two wrongs dont make a right because it is not the woman's fault that armed robbers did what they did nor is it the man's fault!

But tell your Big Sis to be patient and remaing loving to her husband.
With time and persuasion (that man needs proper counselling to overcome his "mental state"wink, he would come around

But l hope she was not "moving waist" when the robbers were doing it cos the man might think she was enjoying it and hence his mental state!
grin grin

BTW: I think we should make laws that no matter how small or inconsequently a robbery is, once "R@PE is involved such robber should get a death sentence without room for appeal.
The thing is becoming too rampant nowadays! After stealing your belongings, they now leave a permanent scar on the family!

pdp has no prob with Lai mohammed, Amechi is thier target
Well, Amaechi has been less outspoken and cantankerous .... unlike "Lair" Mohammed who has been a torn in the flesh of PDP.

This begs the questions: Why would they target Amaechi even more than Lai Mohammed?

*Is it because he is from the South -South?
*Is it because he is supposed to join the South-East "bandwagon" of hating the APC?
* Is it because he is supposed to be part of the "Jonathan-forever-train" but chose to pitch his tent with Buahri?
*is it because as someone from the "East" he was supposed to back Jonathan (herd mentality) but saw the light. backed Buhari/APC and therefore he was hated for this?

I am asking: What exactly is the terrible thing he has done, (compared to Lai Mohammed) that would make them lay in-wait for him and not want him to be conformed as a Minister?

I suspect that just like Lai Mohammed, he would be very funny and sail through, which will again conform to us here that all these "wanabe-analyst" like "Bad-canister", "Pa Chukwudi", e.t.c, .............know nothing about Politics and their #Wailings dont amount to anything in the real world.

*Would you divert Govt funds for personal use?
*have you ever been accused of malpractices before?
*Have you ever engaged in forgery of Certificates or other academic documents?
*Would you work conscientiously and completely for the development of all areas of Nigeria?
*Are you a detribalized person?
*Would you always stand for the truth, irrespective of what your party thinks?
*What has been your contribution to national development in the last Public or Private office you have held (past records)

I will like to agree with Femi's position on the age discuss as I am sure he may be drawing his reference inference from the age of our Head of Department in the 80s at English department, University of Ife named Prof. Bisi Afolayan who was older than the VC then but was one of the best English teachers ever existed to ever exist in Nigerian universities if not in the entire Africa. Prof Afolayan didn't allow the young lecturers who were his Post Graduate studentsc,c to handle the core subject (s) ) of the department alone without being properly monitored. For instance, EGL 101, 102, 201 202, 301, 302, 401 and 402 titled Structures of Modern English. the above named courses are the foundation of English studies, even as Dean of the Faculty, Prof didn't allow just anybody to handle those courses in those days except his post graguate students who were undergoing academic training in those courses at the masters and doctorate levels and he was always in the class with them to be sure they were feeding us with the right message. Age doesn't really matter in what a man can do if he is mentally alert but what Nigerians are really quarreling with Mr. President about his over, is his nominees is the time he has wasted only to have ended end up bringing the se crop of recycled politicians and no new breed as he promised on the CHANGE mantra. But still one won't be surprised if those old politicians don't have grown up children who are qualified to be Ministers. This age nonsense just have to stop. Nigerians are not clamouring for age-showing competition but for positive change in our ministry. What matters most is experience and wisdom which comes with old age.
Who are the youths that would take ther places? Politics start from our home. Who choses a 20 years old boy to be the head of the family? Have there been any record like 30 years old guy been the head of the Family (Olori Ebi)? The answer is no because leadership has more to with experience and lot of wisdom. And to the family lines, tradition supports the old ones just like constitution is not against them here too.

And who are these Youth we are talking about here? Political Goverment of the Youth starts right in the tertiary institution. The SUG are compromised. Reports had it that a SUG president ran to a foreign country with the Union money. Just of recent, the SUG honors a Drug Lord who have a case round his neck with an award. Is this the same Youth we want to give ministerial post which wont compromise in the future?
