Also doing it on a Nairalander's project at the moment. Inspired by Lastpage.. Lol..

But it's still all about preference in respect to the builder kowope you mentioned.

You like it as an alternative, he doesn't.
It's cheaper and lighter but a little harder to do.

Bottom line, it's practicable.

Haven't requested permission to show this pic, so it's just a sneak
Its just a suggestion l made, many other people like Madam gabby also made valid contributions to the idea.
And l am delighted that YOU have taken the "bold step" to make it a "reality".

I hope the owner grants permission to allow us follow it as you go along, ...even if it is just showing ONLY the Roof-part of the building (while cutting-off all the lower parts to prevent identification.... l respect people's privacy a lot undecided )

Being "harder' to do .....will diminish with time, as you gain "experience" in doing it, over and over again, refining your technique and generally "advancing" your methods.

We learned something.

Lastpage!

I was wondering on something else!
One of those "money-saver" ideas you get before dozing-off! grin grin

There is this capping granite/mortar mix that is put on the last Block-level in a building.... on which you place the roof "Wood Beams".
Questions:
1.) Is it necessary and compulsory? What are the advantages if used, ...and disadvantages, if not used?

2.) Hollow Blocks tend to swallow a lot of Mortar/Concrete mix as you try to lay the mix on it (bricklayers usually use "broken blocks" to fill such holes, to prevent the Mortar from falling into the holes of the hollow-blocks.

In my own opinion, doing this adds to the weight of the building .... but does not really contribute any structural strength to it.

So, l am thinking: What if l can use the Cement paper BAGS to block this holes.... and then lay my Mortar or Concrete Mix on it (Just the topmost holes, while avoiding it crossing over to where you have the Block-body itself)?

That way, l am thinking one would have:
a) Saved on the cost of the broken Blocks used to fill the holes
b) Reduced the overall weight of the building
c) Achieved your aim of preventing the mortar from slipping down into the Block holes
d) Put the Empty Cement Bags to good use instead of waiting for Mallam to come and pack them off!

Does this make sense or am l just being silly again? huh huh

5. PVC windows boast an excellent eco balance
PVC windows are 100 % recyclable and therefore resource-saving. 40 % of all gas and oil reserves in the world are used for heating and for supplying energy to buildings, whereas just 4 % go into the production of plastics of which just 1 % are used for PVC. Besides being recyclable, the durability and low levels of pollution during the production of PVC profiles help produce an excellent eco-balance and contribute towards protection of the environment. PVC windows last much longer than wooden windows and consume substantially less energy during the manufacturing process.
Please take special note of the portion l high-lighted.

make Una see reason ooh grin anyway I no even wan argue but if Apc like make dem dey cook up figures upandan!! and kontinu with their useless propaganda, make dem no tell us say NIGERIA IS BROKE! cos na money be this so!!
I voted for Buhari and convinced a lot of people to do same.
But the reasons given is pure lunacy!

In a related development, the Presidency, last night, defended its decision not to release the names of those who returned the funds. It cited the fact that while some of those who returned money were not in any way guilty of any offence, publishing the names could deter those contemplating returning ill-gotten funds in their custody.

A top Presidency source, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard , anonymously, said the administration was happy to have recovered as much as $9 billion without going to court as he said that a number of people still willing to return could be dissuaded by the publication of the names.

“This thing is ongoing and one of the reasons why we did not release the names was that without going to court we were able to retrieve all that amount of money. If you release names, other people who want to do voluntary returns will not do so. What we need is the money and not the names”, he stated.

“Secondly, many of those who returned the money are not necessarily guilty. For instance, if my party gave me money to go and campaign in an election, how am I to know that that money was from an illicit source?

“For instance if money is given to a newspaper for publication, you cannot criminalise the newspaper because it did not know where the money came from. If the newspaper returns the money would it be fair to publicise the name of the newspaper.

“If you listen to the mob you will just end up in the ditch. The practical thing is that we want more money to come in. And we don’t even know what are the terms of the agreement by which anybody returned money.

*Is Buhari telling us that publishing names of those who "RETURN MONEY", under same heading, makes them a THIEF?
*Is Buhari telling us that he is succumbing to BLACKMAIL?
*Is Buhari telling us that it is good and virtuous to "shield such information" from citizens?
*Is Buhari telling us that without publishing names of those who "returned money" with how much they returned, we are supposed to TRUST HIM as declaring the exact amount he collected... with what he published?
*Is Buhari telling us that if l see money on the ground, and returned it to the authorities, by publishing my name and how much l returned, that makes me a thief?
*How is telling your Citizens the TRUTH.... classified as criminalising somebody who returned what does not belong to him...but to the Nation?
*Buhari should be told that anyone who supports corruption, directly or indirectly, is also CORRUPT.

Please, l am getting disappointed in Buhari by the day!
At this rate, l dont think he would have any goodwill left, by 2019.

Buhari may go the same way of GEJ, men who started with tremendous goodwill, and fritted it all-away in a short space of time!

Politics › Re: Buhari: Confab Report Is For The Archives - Confab Delegates Reacts by lastpage: 9:46am On Jun 04, 2016
PassingShot:
Let's leave emotions out of it and approach this issue with logical reasoning.

1. A national conference cannot be said to be credible without the input of all sections of the country and that of the main opposition party.

2. The legal backing must be in place for such conference to stand the test of time. In this case, it lacked the legal backing. Not in the constitution and not backed by any bill to the NASS. So, at best, the one GEJ did was a political conference for political ends.

3. PMB never campaigned with it. It was PDP/GEJ that campaigned with it. As such, it amounts to self-deceit for anyone to expect a president and his party that never believed in that jamboree to come on board and implement a report that was a product of political calculations and not of nation building.

Remember also that GEJ did not show any readiness to implement that report. My deduction is based on the fact that he only managed to send the report to Senate just two days to the end of his tenure (May 27th, 2015 to be precise) http://thewillnigeria.com/news/jonathan-sends-2014-national-conference-report-to-national-assembly/. A report that was submitted to him on August 21, 2014. Do you sincerely think GEJ would have done anything with that political report?
Thank you very much for your opinion.

Majority of Nigerians are HYPOCRITES!

I have asked the same question.... and many more:

1.) If that report was very important and a panacea to most of the problems we have in this country, why did Jonathan Goodluck who funded it with our tax, his Party which supported it, not implement it for a whole year when they kept it in their archive?

2.) Why is it that it is "Secessionist elements" (IPAD, AVENgers and their senior brothers in the PDP and the Eastern part of the country ar ethe ones who want the Report implemented NOW?

3.) Why is it that these people think that the report can be implemented in "pockets" ...and not as a whole? (having conceded that some of the proposals are plain dumb!). Why did they not insist a good job be done in the first place?

4.) How is it that people think that the Report will solve the "most important" of our problems?
For example: Hoe does the Report solve the problem of Power? or Petrol Scarcity? ... when we all know that these problems are caused by CORRUPTION! or does the report provide a solution to the problems of corruption, which is better than how this administration is tackling it?

5.) When the reports preaches "Autonomy" of LGA's, l wonder whether those advocating for such know the implications, without first solving some knotty issues in the constitution.
LGA's a the highest level of corruption in this country and we seem not to take notice.
Even now that they dont have autonomous accounts, what have they done with the money they have been getting all these years?
The just collect their allocation and share it ..or loot it and use it to buy houses abroad.

6.) they said the Confab report was produced by Nigeria's best minds! People who have excelled in their chosen profession That is laughable.

Yes, they may have "excelled" but these group of people are the actual cause of our problems, ab initio!
A Phd holder who is clueless and a grand-father of corruption?
"Military Generals" or NSA who looted money meant for the Military?
A Senior Lawyer like FFK, who take illicit and corrupt funds?
What about Olisah Metuh?

All these people have excelled in their chosen profession but that does not make them "exceptional", as events have shown! They are no better than ordinary thieves.

I can go on forever, to show that the Confab was a waste of resources, a "boys come and Chop" jamboree where Jonathan used money to silence people's conscience. He hand-picked his "yes-men" into that confab and it was a confab of people that looted/destroyed Nigeria, one way or the other

We tend to put things upside down in this country.
Aside Corruption, which is the "producer" of most of our problems, our immediate problem is the "criminal Constitution" that was written for us by Criminals, further amended by Military thieves like IBB, Abdusalam, OBJ... and foisted on the country by these criminals.

That Constitution was DESIGNED TO PERPETUATE CRIMINALITY AND PROTECT "EXECUTIVE" CRIMINALS.
Until "we the people" draft another constitution that protects and puts "the people" FIRST above all others, we will be building our house on a Fraudulent foundation.
Infact, it is that fraudulent Constitution that criminals are currently using, to escape Justice.

Let us amend all shady-areas of that constitution ... or just write another one.
It is only after that, we can now "confab" based on a sound foundation.

How can you have state Police when even now, some Governors have turned themselves to tin-gods, without a State Police yet, using their "constitutional powers"?

Are we supposed to create more problems, while trying to solve smaller ones?

Over five Decades of "resource imbalance", cannot be built-upon, by implementing resource control. It will never happen.
We need "correct" those imbalances in our resources, before any part of the country can even think of sitting on a resource that used to belong to the whole country.

I know the greedy ones want it all for themselves "right now" but they should understand that its either we all have it for now (while imbalances are being corrected) or no one would have it.

BTW: I am not against the President "reading" the Report....there will certainly be thing she can "appreciate" in it, even if just to understand "the plot" of these people. grin grin

How would YOU use this tool to work on our own "HOLED" 6" and 9" Blocks?
erico2k2:
Hmmm now U av asked a kwession
U know the part of the country I come from we do not use Holed blocks that's for commercial buildings only
U wil be suprised
And also even abroad no Hollo blocks it's solids. 4 inches solids then red bricks around it insulation in the middle .Even at that I'm sure with a few twicking a holo block bricky can be made
I am still trying to relate your response to the question l asked? shocked shocked

Read my response to @msogunro , below, and this was on Page 287! undecided

Lastpage: What l am hoping to hear/get is a sort of device which works like the Bricky tool but is also adaptable for hollow blocks, in one go.

Its not a difficult thing to achieve, if we can break the problem down into "manageable quanta".

For example:

If l take the Bricky Tool as it is right now,
a.) How can l incorporate a "flat layer of plastic" that blocks those holes (in our own Naija block) such that the Cement mix does not fall into the holes

b.) In doing (a) above, what mechanism can l incorporate such that l can remove the 'flat layer', as l remove the Bricky tool, at the same time?

c.) Should the 'flat layer' be permanently attached to the Bricky Tool or should be independently removable..... which one is easier?

The Bricky tool has solved the most important aspect of the problem.... it just needs minor adaption.
Sorry, its my #ScienceMind that is wondering aloud! grin
BTW: They use Hollow blocks "abroad". Check your 'facts' properly.

Thank you.

Pavarottii:
With all these challenges. GEJ still achieved thiss.
In conclusion, GEJ did well across Nigeria
1). 12 new universities,
2). almajiri schools,
3). Youwin which I know at least one beneficiary of,
4). fed govt scholarships,
5). the completion of the oil and gas polytechnic in Bonny,
6). the Agric sector,
7). building more roads than any other govt had built - according to Fashola,
. improving power generation inspite of gas line sabotage which he complained about and had the say he was giving excuses,
9). attracted foreign investment,
10). saw the economy expand with GDP of over $500bn, less than 10% of which came from oil
11). implemented the local content bill which forced the oil companies to award a specified percentage of the contracts to Nigerian indegenous firms. The amount of Nigerian oil servicing companies that have grown on account of just this one move is great. The amount of revenue they have earned is worth being thankful to all those who had a hand in seeing it through.
12). he also listened to the call of the people and created a conference where the elders and best minds from all across Nigeria were able to voice all their inner lingering concerns, with a view to making recommendations that will make the country live more prosperously and in greater peace, harmony and unity.
And the below to the list of his ACHIEVEMENTS! undecided
