Nigerians generally will not have the heart to tell someone something like, 'You're South African or Kenyan, English or Indian, please move to the back let Nigerians be first". Ukraine: British teacher evacuates colleagues in school bus.


A British teacher is trying to evacuate colleagues from Ukraine's capital city in a school bus.

Paul Hodgson, originally from Washington, Tyne and Wear but now living in Kyiv with his fiancée, rescued a group on Friday and was preparing to return for more.

Mr Hodgson, who teaches at Kyiv's British International School, said most pupils and parents had left the city.

However, he said many of his colleagues remained trapped there.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Mr Hodgson said the route into and out of Kyiv was "quite risky" and he did not know if he would be able to get back through roadblocks.

He said he was working out a strategy for safely bringing staff to his current base in Cherkasy, to the east.

"Even in Cherkasy there's reports of gunfire and aerial bombardment," he said.

"I haven't heard much of it but I know it's on the outskirts.

"Even here we're only going to be safe for so long so we have to consider our next steps."

A lot of people where making negative comments about Nigerians who were reporting the unjust treatment of the Blacks/Africans in the ongoing war between the Russians and Ukrainians.

No matter how you look at it or how you think it, Nigerians are not the only Africans in Ukraine. But Nigerians are the only ones calling and they're not just calling for themselves alone, because if you watch the video you see everything they're saying is about the blacks/African unjust treatment.

Now their voices have been heard and other Africans from Ukraine are buying the Nigerian flag in Poland for €7 in order to identify as Nigerians.

Remember. Those who has someone to call unto, in time of distress call for help. And those who do not have anybody to call, never bother to call because no one will hear them.

Maybe you didn’t follow the news from the beginning. Some ghanaians were able to be evacuated from the beginning. I remember when US announced the first warning about the Russia invasion and telling their citizens to prepare for evacuation, FG asked Nigerians to go to the Nigerian embassy to write out their details for those who wanted to leave but a lot of them said they weren’t ready yet as schools were still opened then, nobody envisaged it would actually lead to this. Some Ghanaians moved earlier before the war started

Evacuated implies completion. Since substantial amount of Ghanaians remain stranded , it would be more accurate to say Ghana began evacuating her nationals earlier than other Nations did. Success should be judged by the complete or majority evacuations of nationals.

Egypt or Morocco but I'm not confident I understand the politics and social order in North Africa. I would also add Kenya. Algeria and Tunisia always seemed in my peripheral awareness as the more racists parts of North Africa. And isn't Algeria problematic in terms of Islamic terrorism?

ZUBY77, got many of us thinking . Yesterday i thought and wrote plenty grammar. This morning, I've also thought some more and have returned to post more grammar: It occurs to me now that some Nigerians whose specialty is abusing Nigeria often say they do so because Nigeria gave them nothing. They shout, 'i will never die for that shithole, Zoo republic Nigeria! What has Nigeria done for me??". Yesterday, apparently some of these types of Nigerians, that are in Ukraine, rebuffed the help Nigeria government was attempting to offer them, consequently embarrassing Nigeria. Well, if you think of it, they are indirectly informing the Nigeria government and people that Ukraine has given them what Nigeria could not. Therefore they should stay and fight for Ukraine. They always say they will not fight or die for Nigeria since Nigeria gave them nothing.

Be true to your words, stay and fight for Ukraine that has given you everything!

A side note, it was reported, yesterday, that many Ukrainian men fled through the border. Some were wealthy men that bribed to escape.

You could draw on the history of Biafra war to better inform your belief here. In real terms ,my great grand father was arguably the wealthiest man in Nigeria. He owned vast lands in the east where he did his business. His children (one of them my grand father) were educated in America and UK. They married, had children born abroad, with all that this meant in terms of citizenship and opportunity to flee abroad. They all lived in Nigeria during the Biafra war, could leave Nigeria at any point but they never ran away, although Ojukwu did - in the end.

We lost everything: wealth and many lives. My grate grandfather and his children, including my grand father, were not the only wealthy people that did not run but stayed in Waring Nigeria until the bitter end, many others did. Many of them politicians, lawyers,doctors, all very brave people that did extraordinary things to help those less able..
