Islam for Muslims / Re: Who Is Jesus? by littleb(m): 11:01pm On Jun 27, 2009
1. In the beginning, was the word and the word was with God and he was God. (John 1:1).

The above verse is neither coming from God nor Jesus, it is coming from John, the historiographer who was trying to explain his understanding of the relationship between Jesus and God, unfortunately he contradicted the bible as pointed out in (John 17:3 and john 5:30). And if one examine the verse (john 1:1) he will understand that the word, with, is a conjunction, joining word and God.

The same Bible says in Isiah 44:6 and i quote, God says I am the first and the last, there is no any God besides me. (Isiah 44:6). If I may ask my dear friends, which statement is more authentic? is it the one from God or the one from John?

Another verse which christian hold as an evidence of Jesus divinity is (John 10:30) which states and i quote

The father and i are one. (john 10:30)

I want to ask my christian friends, in what context was Jesus saying they are one? there is still another verse in the bible where Jesus is saying and i quote

father is greater than i am (john 14:28).

Can any christian help me reconcile these two verses ( john 10:30 and john 14:28)? if at all Christians are reasoning well, they wouldn't have been using John 10:30 in establishing the divinity of Jesus Christ. If the oneness of Jesus according to john 10:30 qualified him to be God, the same oneness would have qualified his disciples to be God, since as stated in the same john 17:21-23, and i quote, That they may be one as we are one, i in you, they in me that we may all denote one. (John 17:21-23)

Is Jesus talking about oneness in knowledge, essence, or power? the answer is no!!! because he wouldn't have said in Mark 13:32 and i quote

However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or son himself. Only the father knows. (Mark 13:32) and Jesus says in (john 5:30) and i quote

I of my own self can do nothing (john 5:30). Again ?Mathew 19:26 says and i quote, With God all things are possible (Mathew 19:26).

My friends, if one scrutinize these verses, he doesn't have to be told that Jesus is not God.

Can a christian responds to this?

Littleb, I understand that this was part of your post,
'. . . . . Islam holds that the purpose of punishment are three; RETRIBUTION, DETERRENTS AND REFORMATION. . . . . '. Not so?

why is FORGIVENESS not on the list?

Don't you understand english? When you define punishment, is forgiveness part of it? If somebody is not punished then he/she is forgiven. While if he/she is punished, then, the result of punishment could yeild reformation and deter others who might think of committing the same crime. Criminals are punished but not in all cases according to Islamic laws. However, there is no absolute forgiveness for all criminals, there are several situations where criminals is warn(on trial whether he would change or not) or imprisoned for a specified period. How would you think Allah is not forgiven when He said in many verses that he is capable of forgiven all sins.

This thread is not about christian beliefs. But no, there is no penal code for anyone any more in christianity. it is called FORGIVENESS. He also asked us to pray for our enemies, apostates e.t.c. and not to kill them.

I just laugh at your statement, and I belief there is no where in the world where your thought will be accepted if it is a proposal. Just read it to yourself and how applicable it is, if all criminals can move freely on the streets without being punished, then people can start committing crime as they wished since they known there is no punishment. Even, according to your bible, Jesus said he came to fulfill laws, then where do you belong? I will wait for your response on this!

why do u two enjoy evading my questions? unless and until u at least attempt to answer my questions, u have said nothing.

You only keep on extending the conversation. There has not been any meaningful response from you. The subject of your question is centered on punishment, which I explained and I asked if you have similar thing in christianity. I don't know which response you want again. If I may put you straight, you asked:
why amputation? Amputation is for thief
why killing ? A retribution for whoever killed or hardened criminal e.g armed robbers
why husband will beat his wife and not forgiven? On matrimonial relation, beating shouldn't occur except if all other methods have been tried and it shouldn't be heavy.
why contradiction? There is no contradiction
why Allah decree muslims hellfire? Allah never decree all muslims hellfire

So, now answer my questions:
Is there penal codes according to christianity? What is it essence? How should it be carried out?

@noetic
Is there penal codes according to christianity? What is it essence? How should it be carried out? I believe you are aware of that of Islam, though you may not be well informed about its details. Just compare it, if it is the same, then, your questions are no question at all. If otherwise or there is none in christianity? Then, how could you judge a criminal when adage says:"when there is no laws, there is no sins".

The laws are made to guide and promote peace, and they are accompanied with accorded punishment for the violators, though in some circumstances, the criminal maybe forgiven instead. Morover, Islam hold that the purpose of punishment are three, Retribution, deterrents and  reformations. Retribution in the case of "eye for an eye". Deterrents for who might intending to commits such offence in future and reformation for the case of who still living amongst the criminals, for example, the release criminal from jail, at least might have changed his/her life for better. On the case of forgiveness, undoubtedly, any environment where the huge of criminals are leaving unpunish will  be flourishing in corrupt practices, this is evidenced by what is happening in our country now.  In contrary to your own objection on Islam, is it not safe to lose a criminal or a criminal lose a limb in order to save many life than to put the whole community in jeopardy by allowing free movement of criminals in the society! It is up to whoever want to adhere to the truth. Just be objective and respond according to Jesus teachings.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Misconceptions About Islam ! by littleb(m): 11:44pm On Jun 25, 2009
Temporary marriages was commonly performed by arabs in pre islamic era. It is the one contracted for a specified period in exchange of specified sum of money. It was permitted for a while prophet muhammad was on a journeys with his followers and military campaigns before it later forbidden.

The reason why it was permitted in the beginning was that the muslims were passing through a translation from ignorance to islam. Fornication was widely common amongst them then, made it difficult to put it off at once rather a gradual process. This is also similar to the case of alcohol as a gradual course until it was finally prohibited. In one of the hadiths related by ibn masud stated that the prophet permitted the weak ones amongst them while on expedition. However, this acts was later forbidden very prevalent in several hadiths. It was in the oppinion of ibn abbass that one can still contract such marraige under hard condition and when he alter sew that people were contracting it without any necessity, he withdrews his opinion. there was no statement of the prophet that supported it after it has made haram. Above all, under sharia, it is not recognise, coz ut against Allah's injunction according to quran.

It is like your question always turn the truth in upside down. You perceive Islam different from what muslims believe it to be. Where do you find contradictions in Allah's words? Allah promise forgiveness for everybody who turn sincerely in repentance as long as the person is still breathing. The same way he did for the first created man and forgiveness thereafter. Allah promise rewards for every deed and punishment for who does otherwise. The intercession after judgment is for those who does not associate partnership with God almighty. That is why prophet Muhammad says:"whoever believe there is no deity worthy of worship save Allah(God) will enter paradise".

Be sincere to yourself and understand Islam by start reading Quran and not just ordinary copy and paste propaganda.

people married because of love matters in all dimensions, whether pagan, christians or muslims. As far as Islam is concern, there is high priority on the religious side. A muslim believer either brother or sister shouldn't marry christians when there are lot of brethren waiting to engage with them. Muslims men do marry christians, however islam doesn't encourages it, moreso, intention counts more than being liberal. Where is the asinine insinuation?

But your prophet came and added fuel to the already depraved nature that jesus came to restore by approving rape, caravan-robbing, murder, ethnic cleansing, unforgiveness etc.

Kindly present a proof to this

No wonder that allah's messenger said every muslim must surely enter hell.

Sura Maryam 19:70-72
And certainly we know best those who are most worthy of being burned therein. Not one of you but will pass over it (hell): this is, with thy Lord, a Decree which must be accomplished. But we shall save those who guarded against evil, and we shall leave the wrongdoers therein, (humbled) to their knees.

dexmond, try to get details from those who understand it. Though, there are several propangandists and antislamists who claim this verse to mean all muslims will enter hell fire. Have you ever ponder over it that Quran describe and proof it loudly in many places that believers and good-doers will enter paradise, very prevalent in many verses of the Quran. On this particular verse, if you yourself read the verse semantically, is there no difference between enter and pass. The meaning of passing over the hell is well describe in the hadith. The passing on the of judgement is crossing the bridge of sirat in which under it is hell. Ability to cross to the bridge easily will depends on our good deeds. Some will fall into hell because of thier bad deeds, in which prophet Muhammad will intercede for them after a while. Just go through the ffg hadiths for details:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Some people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the sun when it is not hidden by clouds?" They replied, "No, Allah's Apostle." He said, "Do you crowd and squeeze each other on looking at the moon when it is full and not hidden by clouds?" They replied, No, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "So you will see Him (your Lord) on the Day of Resurrection similarly Allah will gather all the people and say, 'Whoever used to worship anything should follow that thing. 'So, he who used to worship the sun, will follow it, and he who used to worship the moon will follow it, and he who used to worship false deities will follow them; and then only this nation (i.e., Muslims) will remain, including their hypocrites. Allah will come to them in a shape other than they know and will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say, 'We seek refuge with Allah from you. This is our place; (we will not follow you) till our Lord comes to us, and when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him.

Then Allah will come to then in a shape they know and will say, "I am your Lord.' They will say, '(No doubt) You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him. Then a bridge will be laid over the (Hell) Fire." Allah's Apostle added, "I will be the first to cross it. And the invocation of the Apostles on that Day, will be 'Allahukka Sallim, Sallim (O Allah, save us, save us!),' and over that bridge there will be hooks Similar to the thorns of As Sa'dan (a thorny tree). Didn't you see the thorns of As-Sa'dan?" The companions said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle." He added, "So the hooks over that bridge will be like the thorns of As-Sa-dan except that their greatness in size is only known to Allah. These hooks will snatch the people according to their deeds. Some people will be ruined because of their evil deeds, and some will be cut into pieces and fall down in Hell, but will be saved afterwards, when Allah has finished the judgments among His slaves, and intends to take out of the Fire whoever He wishes to take out from among those who used to testify that none had the right to be worshipped but Allah.”

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:

We, the companions of the Prophet said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is the bridge?' He said, "It is a slippery (bridge) on which there are clamps and (Hooks like) a thorny seed that is wide at one side and narrow at the other and has thorns with bent ends. Such a thorny seed is found in Najd and is called As-Sa'dan. Some of the believers will cross the bridge as quickly as the wink of an eye, some others as quick as lightning, a strong wind, fast horses or she-camels. So some will be safe without any harm; some will be safe after receiving some scratches, and some will fall down into Hell (Fire). The last person will cross by being dragged (over the bridge)."

You shouldn't marry christian just for the sake of love. Try as much as possible to be more spiritual in your faith and seek for Allah's guidance. There are lot of muslim brothers out there looking for a good sister to marry. Remember, whatever action you take for the sake of Allah count most, if you submit yourself to His wills, I believe He is always in guidance of such person and assuredly immeasurable rewards, both in this world and in hereafter. Try to purify your heart by reading Quran everyday. also engage yourself in Qiyam lael(Night prayer) and possibly fast for Allah's guidance. NO man has the right to murder another man according to the Bible.

The Muslim however acted by the examples of Mohammed his prophet and he made it clear that he shot the soldiers because of what they are doing to Muslims.
Mohammed did and would do the same things.
Most of his life was spent killing people who differed in opinion

Islam does not encourage killing of innocent or killing when no war is stage against you or any attempt to kill you. People are committing crime everyday in US and never lay claim it on religious account. Morover, Muhammad should be investigated and charged according to US laws either as terrorist or muderer ; both are applicable. In contrary to Osisi opinion, there is no community, religions or organisation where murdering or killing of innocent as that of Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad and Scott Roeder is encouraged. And I think as a woman, you just dont need to continue with such bias mind.

Did you read this?

– both faith traditions abhor the killing of innocents and neither faith condones the actions of Mr. Muhammad or Mr. Roeder. Plus, the steady stream of news about Muslim extremists killing others and themselves in suicide missions overseas certainly doesn’t help.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Why I Am Not A Muslim by littleb(m): 9:41am On Jun 13, 2009
@yeswecan,

I think you just have a lot to learn from bible first, moreso, there is no ambiguity in the message of Quran not talking of reconciliation. Muslims don't need to vacillate on Quranic message and prophet Muhammad did participated in wars not for the vulgarism or the intention just to kills. Just read the sirah Nabiy, how he started his preaching and how his people turn against. Persecution started untill it was unbearable for muslims. Muslims did not fight untill Allah commanded them to fight the unbelievers. Read extensively to know more about the wars prophet Muhammad participated, he wasn't but defensive all through.

We muslims believe all prophets God including Jesus and Muhammd taught their fellows and exemplify moral ethics, to love thier enemies and pray for them as Muhammad exemplify when he was stoned in taif, when he overpowered surakat and the likes. Also, God communicated divine laws to them to guide and as punishment as you still found some remnants in your bible.

Jesus words.

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:43-45).

The Islamic prophet, Mohammad started the violence through his invention of Islam, planted a seed of hatred; he taught force conversion, hatred of the jews and non Muslims and even went to wars.

If you lay claim to Jesus only to have taught love your enemies, in contrary to the notion and as we musims believe including other prophets; Muhammad, Moses and Abraham. Now, your bible is wrong by the statement of Jesus to spill the blood of his enemies before him with no sinlge one wage war against him. Luke 19:27. Have you ever ponder over it?

Mohammed’s words

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guides not a people unjust. [Qur'an 5:51]

The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter; [Qur'an 5:33]

Can you read arabic? verse 51:The word is "Awliyah". Which means intimate friends. Allah uses the right word, very perfect. How would you take someone who is partly friend and partly enemy as best friend or protector? Even Bush of America will never do. Allah warns the muslims of being derivatively hypocritical and I have a testimony to that. How would a christian knowing right that you are muslim being systematically imposing Christianity on you?

verse 33: Very clear and practicable. These are warning and judgement of the mischievious people. Some applicalable as judgement and some in Jihad/holy war. Do you have any proplem with that? Was jesus ever think of war or judgement according to your bible. What was his intention when instructed his fellows to buy ammunitions? To eat or to fight?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Why I Am Not A Muslim by littleb(m): 9:46am On Jun 07, 2009
My being a muslim is because Allah guides my heart to it. Therefore I realise that He is my LOrd and God and no partnership with Him. I do not have to have a 3 master, acting as 1. I don't have to wonder if I am worshipping a Master who died, even if only temporarily. My soul longs fo Allah. My heart loves to worship Him. I do not want to enter hell which He promised to disbelievers.

As much as other religion, especially christianity, to run rabid or burst loose and do what I want and hang my hat on a believe that a man died for me, I know that such a belief is warped, unfair and will not come from a Lord Who is Able. He Allah in Islam has allowed me to put my own destiny in my own hand, which is consistent with "free will" tat man has.

Subuhanalah

I am a muslim because it is only religion that means submission to God's will and commands. It is only religion preach subsmission to one unique God preaches by all prophets including Abraham,Moses,Jesus and Muhammad. My reason not to chose christianity are many, but of most important point are summarise here:

The Founders:
For one to understand a true religion, there is need to reflect on how such religion is formed and how it was practiced. The personalities of the pioneer of such religions should not be left out. According to the bible, it is very glaring that christianity was formed just like a common society by Apostle Paul. The doctrines and believe which are very different from what Jesus and other OT preached. There is no prophets of the bible that witness christianity or share part of thier believe including trinity.
Christianity was named after human being just like the idol worshipers and most thier believes are always alike. Intermidiary is required for christians prayer to be answerred just like idolatory. They called on Jesus who in turn advocate with God on thier behalf since he couldn't do anything within his power.

Believe
Islam belief in one God(ALLAH), no associate, no partner, nor sleep nor slumber and belief in all prophets as a messanger from God. It also holds that the messages of all prophets had but one essential core component; Your God is only ONE, He is the only you should bow down and worshiped very prevalent in Quran. However, christians believe in trinity of God; The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christians have failed to explain how could Jesus be god when he was crying and praying to another God( someone superior to him) when he was about to be killed. However, he(Jesus), according to christianity could not save himself from the death on the cross shows how failed in his mission coz he could not overcome his enemies. After all, he said that he had not come to send peace on the earth, but a sword according to thier bible.

The Book
Christians believe in Bible as the authentic words of God inspired to his men. However, nobody has been able to explain the authenticity and reliablity of the book as thier founds so many contradictions, grammatical flaws in it and incestuous stories of God's prophets whose thier life suppose to serve as exemplary to the followers. How could such book be from God Almighty? Islam believe in true book revealed to prophets in which the message therein are alike. How could someone explain the believe in one part of the scriptures and deny the other parts as Jews and christians believes.

On the other hand, Quran, the Holy Book of Islam, is admitted to be the very words revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The Book has maintained its purity till now. It challenges the entire mankind to provide its kind if not from God. It also establishes its authencity that if God is not the author, there would have many descrepancies. In fourteen hundred years of intense scrutiny and examination, not a single contradiction, grammatical flaw, or comparable imitation has ever been found.

@neotic,
Why are you so much worried about the reasons for muslims being a muslim when you already know Islam means submission to the will and commands of Allah. I think it is you who need to face the challenge and defend your opening post.

Where is Prof. Webb Jamie? Why he could not provide us with Quranic Flaws. Whereas, Quran itself already challenge the whole world to to provide the flaws in it.

You are a liar, be specific which part of the middle east and give examples. I think the bible has the judgement for apostate. when you find it, present it here.

@neotic,

You will need to tell me the one which is better, woshiping God or woshiping God created being? If you believe someone is higher than Jesus of whom he cried to when he was about to be killed, then, who should you woship? Jesus or God? Claiming Christianity as a religion is total a failure coz it was never known by any God's prophets even Jesus. The believe accepted to nature is nothing other Islam, meaning submission to the will and commands of one God. You will need to tell the meaning of your christianity according to bible. Now, you will need to establish the believe of Jesus whom you claimed you followed. If you can't proof the same believe to convince me the truth in your bible including all the falsehood statement of Jesus, then, you are a liar.

If I may I asked you what is the most common message of all the prophets right from when Adam was created, is it trinity or one God? If I asked you who created heaven and earth, is it Jesus or God or both or both in one. If I may asked you why Jesus was sent to the world, according to your bible for peace, for sword or for atonement of sins? Then why Allah created paradise and hell? If I cant get a convincing statement from you, then, you are liar. Then, christianity is nothing other than fake. Islam has not come up with confusion or try to justify what is not understandable. I believe the same thing should apply to your thinking not hooking up lies against not being a muslim

Alhmadulilah, I am a muslim not a christian or jew:
A Muslim is one who believes in One God. It is forbidden by Allah(God) for us to believe in or serve anyone other than Himself as a god. He warns us not to set up an equal with Him, as He was the One in the beginning from whom everything had its beginning and will be the One God from which everything will end. He is independent, having no need of anyone’s help, but on the other hand, upon Him we all depend. It is the highest of ignorance for us to choose a God or attempt to make something as an equal to Him. Foolish people all over the earth have been for the past 6,000 years, and still are, trying to make an equal to Allah(God). He has no beginning, nor is there any end of Him. How, O foolish man, how can you make an equal for a One? or try to justify foolishness of trinity or confused sin atonement? Naturally, I am a muslim coz it refrain from all colorations of confusion of God identity. It is very clear from the way Abraham, Moses, jesus and Muhammad (SAW) describe it; Worship only one God.

Let govt decide what is better for the society and see which faith will affect most. To be just, christians disturb most, with prayers all nights, singing and all sort of right beside my window. Even, you notice them right in your class disturbing with all sort of music and preaching, even inside commercial buses. I believe Lagos state Govt is thinking best for our society to free from all sort of noise pollution and religious extreme coloration that is not necessary. However, muslims are not left out; there is no where it is recorded in the sunnah that you gather people loudly disturbing with speakers all night in the name of Tahjud or any programs. In my opinnion, what is expected from Govt is regulation and not absolute banning, probably on time based and for night program, there speakers should be limit to inside the mosque or church and not outside.
