European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Cristiano Ronaldo: I'm Better Than Messi by logica(m):
ogugua88: Ronaldo is a great player. Ronaldo has qualities Messi lacks, and vice versa. The only problem for Ronaldo is that Messi exists during his era. Him claiming to be the best is actually arguable. I find the argument of Ronaldo moving around as valid. Ronaldo is versatile and can adapt easily as his move proved. Messi does not have to move around to be considered the best player, but he's very comfortable at Barcelona. One wonders how he'd cope at another team with different players and different style. For those wondering, check his track record with Argentina. If Messi's so good, he should be a factor at the national level, but he isn't. This is the same Messi that our own Enyeama denied goals one after the other in the 2010 World Cup. In his era, the highest Argentina have gotten in the World Cup is quarterfinals. They've never reached the top four. The highest Portugal has finished in Ronaldo's era was fourth in 2006. Messi disappears when he's with his fellow Argentinians. In short, neither of them can call themselves the greatest until they bring home the World Cup. Some food for thought.
LOL. You must consider yourself a football expert eh? Messi has been more of a factor in the Argentine squad than Ronaldo. You forgot to mention the Olympics where Argentina beat Nigeria in the final (winning by a goal from Di Maria - with a defense-line splitting pass -assist- from MESSI). Or doesn't the Olympics count?

Messi's problem in Argentine colors is well known to those who understand football - he's their best play-maker. No other player can create chances more than he does. In Barcelona, Xavi is the play-maker. Messi is just as good as Xavi in this department, but luckily for Barca they have Xavi; leaving Messi to score goals. Argentina has no Xavi; so Messi becomes Xavi. And Messi cannot be scoring goals when he's busy playing Xavi's role - making assists for the likes of Higuain, Aguero etc (who by the way have no clue as far as providing assists go). Argentina have recognized they need to build the team around Messi and in the last match he played for them (as captain), he scored a hat-trick for the first time in Argentine colors.
Culture › Re: Jamb Question - What Is "Eku Ijoko" In English ? (winner Gets Recharge Card) by logica(m): 5:33pm On May 19, 2012
PeeDaVinci: the yoruba word " e ku ..." does not have any literal english translation. it is born out of a concept which does not exist in the english lang culture
It does have a literal English translation - "greetings" or "compliments".

So "E ku ijoko" literally translates to "greetings as you are seated".

cyril83: C Ron is still the best,he played a very good game in a tough league "ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP" where we have wolves as defenders,he then move on to spanish "la liga" still reigning...So u can tell ur one legged player to move on to another league and let's see what he's up to. Do u guyz know what it takes to leave ur teammates for another teammates and still adapt in no time...kudos to C Ron joor
This kind of silly argument is even more ridiculous because when they ask you who the best player ever is, you will say "Pele". But you won't see the obvious contraction. Pele effectively played for only one club - Santos (he only played for Cosmos in the USA after he had retired from active football). At the time, Santos was the best club in South America so he had no reason to move to another club to prove any points.

AjanleKoko: Here's something very interesting for Tito and Zubi to consider. It's the league table minus Messi and Ronaldo's goals.
Shows exactly how poor the team was this term. Looks like Messi is far more decisive than we all think:
You should also see the connection between winning the Pichichi title and not winning La Liga (except for the Copa del Rey that is). Ronaldo got the Pichichi last season and only had the Copa del Rey to show for it. This season, it is Messi's turn.

Messi didn't win Pichichi last season but Barca won the Champions League and the La Liga. Neither did he win in the season of everything when Barca won the sextuplet. That season, nearly all members of the team scored. What is missing in this team is clearly that Messi has been made the goal tunnel; all goals go through him in that he either assists or scores.

In a team where Busquets could only score on the very last game of the season compared to Yaya who scored regularly 4 years ago. A lot of things went wrong and only Guardiola can provide answers to several of his jaw-dropping decisions.

Joagbaje: James 1:13
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man
:
Nice scripture. Never mind that what God did to Abraham seems to not fall under "temptation" as far as James was concerned. But do you have any quotes for the below:

logica: . . .and without you knowing it, and by your admission the Bible is not the infallible word of God after all. You have just indicated that the Biblical accounts were basically from the perspective of the writers; and which was influenced by their ignorance.

Joagbaje: In the old testament time , there was little knowledge of demons or devil. So every incidence is attributed to God either good or bad. And God spirit use people according to the level of their understanding to a great extent.
. . .and without you knowing it, and by your admission the Bible is not the infallible word of God after all. You have just indicated that the Biblical accounts were basically from the perspective of the writers; and which was influenced by their ignorance.

AjanleKoko: Lots of wishlists are being bandied around, mostly by Barca fans and not the club.
- David Alaba- no hope of getting him.
- David Luiz - Skilful but erratic. Another Tarzan-haired fellow. Would be interesting to see a Pique-Luiz pairing. But he was expensive, which makes me wonder if Chelsea will sell him.
Funny both are "giant killers" - David.

Anyway I came upon a David Alaba interview about 2/3 years ago where he mentioned that after Bayern Munich he would like to play for Arsenal. I think then as a youngster he had his sights set low and to be sought after by Barca must have him wide-eyed. With the right amount of pressure he will ask for the move himself.

For the other, I don't even think Barca would consider trying to make a bid.

You have chosen a very appropriate name. cheesy Probably the dude asked somebody in the oil sector what his salary was and he was given the annual salary. But the dude decided to make it a monthly figure since he felt all the people working in the oil sector must be super rich; and that figure seemed too small to him for it to be annual salary.

You guys seem to forget that Barca had chances in the games you said the opponents defense was locked. The chances were just not taken. So the problem was being wasteful in attack and being undisciplined in defense.

I still want Alaba though.
