Pdizzle: I, though being a christian, have learnt a lot from the numerous intelligent atheists here trying to debunk the theism theory logically. I for one think they argue with very good points, but let's look in the direction of the African Traditional Religion. This is a religion where worshippers tends to see and feel the effectiveness of the African voodoo on a practical basis. These traditionalist not only rely on faith as in the case of Christianity. There are likewise situation in the christendom too, in the case of prophecies, miracles e.t.c even though some are proven to be hoax. But we have some people with one-on-one experiences. My questions are; What is the stance of you atheists on the African Traditional Religion? These are proofs of supernatural powers. Won't it be unfair if you accept the existence of these dieties and deny the existence of Jehovah? Or are you intelligent folks saying 'powers that be' don't exist at all? What are your views on witches, sorcerers, magicians etc. Faith in African traditions |

ezeagu: Jhene Efuru Aiko
Jhene Aiko is a musician from America and was given 'Efuru' as a middle name (which she uses on her official twitter handle) from Flora Nwapa's novel.
https://s1.postimg.org/f3c2smfan/jhene_aiko_at_calvin_klein_jeans_celebration_lau.jpg I love Her music, Btw what does it mean? Anything to do with the clouds? See wikipedia Jhené Aiko was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Christina Yamamoto and Dr. Karamo Chilombo (né Gregory Wycliff Barnes), a pediatrician.[7] Her older sisters Miyoko and Jamila were in the R&B group Gyrl, and toured with Immature, who were signed to MCA and Silas Records. Aiko is of African American, Japanese, Spanish, Dominican, German Jewish, French, and Native American descent.
In September 2014, Aiko revealed she was in a relationship with New York City-based record producer Oladipo "Dot da Genius" Omishore Apparently her father being mostly African American must have given her the name. "Chilombo" her last name, is Igbo right? She was born to a mother of Japanese, Spanish and Afro-Dominican descent named Christina Yamamoto and a father of African American, Jewish and Native American descent named Karamo Chilombo.
The singer showed off her mixed race by tweeting in Yoruba Language, one of the major tribes in Nigeria. She tweeted “Kuroni’waju mi” which means, “Leave my front/face”, in English.

absoluteSuccess: @macof, brilliant.
You need observe that longevity is part of greeting and goodtime wishes among the Yoruba to this day, as in,
Kade pe lori, ki bata pe lese keshin oba o jeko pe', and eepe funwa, ee kowa je pe' meaning long may the king reign.
We also says 'ate pe lao te le yi pe'. Long shall we tred on this land.
Now look at this Yoruba word 'erupe~ile': sand, but the phrase means 'ashes of ancient world'.
ile is Yoruba for land, world or earth. It shares something in common with sticker or adhesive or gum.
The ancient Yoruba may be alluding to the force of gravity that gum us to the earth surface, as in, the earth is gum-gum planet.
Okun as strength is as used in 'a maa se bieni ti 'o l'okun n'nu' that is, he would be (sluggish) as one without inner strength.
Then the proverb, okun inu lafi ngbe tita. We depend on strength within to lift up (strong object) without. I know "kun" has to do with strength but I'm using tones and pronunciations here, the "kun" there is the same with "kun" in "Ekun".. and " Okunrin" : man, but really meaning " strong metal "(bone: which is made of calcium, a metal)... but that " kun" isn't the same tone with "kun". in " Okun" the greeting.. one is "do" the other is "mi". " kun" here is the same with. "o ti kun" : it is filled. "kun" for strength is also similar to "kin". for bravery like we have it in Kinniun and Akin |

Interesting, but if "E pele" really refers to "living long on the land" at what possible point and with wat factors did it change from "e pe ni'le"?
Although the "kun" in "Ekun" for Leopard doesn't sound the same with "kun" in "Okun" I believe they are linked but not the same as you are pointing out. . Cus I guess your translation of "Okun" as strength comes from "Ekun" I agree with "fulfillment" . It is the same tone with "kun" as in "to fill"
"EKUN" LIKE "kun" as women say when they apply makeup "mo fe kun s'oju" but what this has to do with strength I don't know yet. "kun" here seems more like "to perch" or "to apply"(make up on the face)
I have a different idea of the etymology of "e pele" but I'm not certain ... We have iwapele - character of calm, being of a sound and balanced mind. See when someone is not calm due to a deed against him/her, people say "e pele" which I would say means " call on to calmness" from "pe ele" but like I said I'm not certain cus I'm not even sure if "ele" is a real word |

fratermathy: Speak for yourself o
Most Yorubas dont share the same sentiment! This thing is that most Yorubas believe that Okuns and Igbominas should be given appointments and other political incentives based on their affiliations with North Central Region. However, the North Central majority believe that Okuns and Igbominas should get incentives from their South West brothers. How then will they resolve this dilemma?
Furthermore, Okun and Igbomina Yoruba is seen by the typical Awori man, for example, as "impure" due to its influences from Hausa, Nupe, Igara, Tiv and the Islamic Religion. Hence, whenever they speak their own version of Yoruba, others tend to circle them out as being inferior in standard Yoruba communicative competence. This is another dilemma.
While it is good that some of you are embracing your Okun and Igbomina brothers, the lot have to do better to embrace them. They can only look up to the South West! The Northern folks will never allow an Okun or Igbomina man to "collect" what they see as theirs! Why would an Awori consider the Okun impure? If it's cus of islam dont Awori have of a large muslim population? Infact in Ebutemetta and Lagos island there are more mosques than churches and most shrines are not in easily accessible places. .hence you find Awori people turning any t-junction to Esu's altar. Btw Okun are not as influenced by all those people as you think, the lack much ability to communicate in Yoruba except their dialect but it's not as if they are adopting hausa. Igbomina? ? Don't even say it again. The Igbomina paramount ruler remains an Oba Alade as the 2nd son of Oduduwa. And they hold the largest population in Kwara state. . Because of them people proudly count Kwara as a Yoruba state |

Those people are really on a long thing though! Thank God that the current government has given some of their people some appointments!.
@Classicool: I have created a thread that hit frontpage about the Olukunmis earlier this year. This people migrated from current Ondo State in the past to Delta and they are completely surrounded by Igbos. Although most of them still maintain their Olukunmi status and language, lots have joined the Igbo bandwagon entirely. A friend of mine from this place bears Temidayo Nwabueze as his name. The Temidayo is a relic of his Yoruba ancestry whilst the Nwabueze is a product of current Igbo acculturation. However, even in the midst of this, the Olukunmis have tried to make sure they are seen as Yorubas. Their king bears Ayo as his name and in his palace, only Yoruba is spoken! However, in the town itself, it is mainly the older generation that speak Yoruba now! The younger ones have largely been acculturated. I just pray Olukunmi dialect of Yoruba doesn't become extinct in the nearest future! Yoruba Socio-Political groups need to come in and support the plight of the people and enhance their cultural renaissance. They bear yorubic names up and down but sociopolitically or as a matter of association they don't see themselves as Yorubas. They are infact warming up to igbos more. I've met the Oloza, a very cool man doesn't talk much. .and he speaks standard yoruba Unless an effort from yorubas is made to call on the olukumi, forget it cus many are already losing their yorubaness |
