carefreewannabe: It doesn't really matter how many wives and concubines he had as the New Testament states that it should be one wife and wife husband.

Just saying.
Then pls tear out the old testament from the Christian Bible.
As long as Christian role models were polygamous, you can't come here using christianity to judge

Shirley07: Abraham didn't practise polygamy though because he never married another wife until Sarah died. Even then, he only had conbubines and he regarded the concubines' children together with Haggai's son as badstards.
Haggai was a slave and still remained a slave woman, don't get it twisted!
Haggai was wat, a prostitute he had a one night stand with abi??

Or because you didn't read of a wedding ceremony you conclude their union wasn't official??

Wat about David? Jacob and the strong Solomon grin

I know more about christianity than you can ever know

Jesus wasn't Christian either undecided so WTF are you saying??

soonest: If you have something against monogamy, bring on your argument. Don't try to turn this thread into a religious one. When the table turns, your lot will start inviting MOD and superMOD.
Why shouldn't I take religion when your religion seems to poke it's noses where it doesn't belong?
Someone on this thread already used religion to judge...am only trying to clear the air and show you that this christianity you all think is against polygamy really isn't

jumzzy448: @ macof, let's not bring religion into this discussion. Let's discuss polygamy in general and not based on religion.
Thank you sir. I would actually love this but how many people speak of polygamy without bringing their religious nonsense into it??
Even in this thread someone said christianity is against it

so it's only to be expected for a Christian to take his religious dogmas to judge biasly

No Abraham isn't the role model. Christ is.stop being dane!
Am nt eager to make it religious bashing, someone in this thread pointed that Bible frowns against polygamy...am only addressing that statement

Was Christ ever married in the Bible? Since u only follow Christ pls don't be romantically involved with anybody

And how do you know that punishment has reduced, I don't believe this.

So you believe not flogging a child for his wrong doing is modernization??

bellong: You can ask your question with decorum. Don't turn this thread to religious war. This is how it starts.

Be civil pls.
It relates. The major reason why Africans today speak against polygamy is because of christianity, this is wat they are taught in church

But going by the examples laid by Bible characters Polygamy seems ok
So telling me Bible frowns at it is ridiculous

The creator never asked for worship, worship it or not, turn it to a God or not

You know the creator exists in a form you cannot see or physically feel...
Evil is not really there, it's only an illusion...what we perceive as evil is due to our instincts, intelligence, experience etc. at the end, these things are natural, it's a part of the creator's nature.

The creator is balanced, neither good nor evil

BobNeli: And u really sure u understand the things of the spirit? When Jesus met with the man with leigion, can u remember what transpired between them? Did Jesus ask him, "who are u"? What did the man with leigion answer? Have u by any means asked urself, why do those spirits tend to occupy peoples body instead of existing on their own? To help u a lil bit my brother. They do so because they dnt have there own bodies. Therefore, make use of the bodies of their victims in perpetrating their evils. The people they posses, provide them with mouth to speak. They provide them with all the diferent parts of the body to carry out their functions. Hence dear, if U hear a demon possesd person, confessing. It is not him that speaks but the spirit using him.
You know nothing of the spirit. You subscribe to dumb lies and comic tales and call that knowing things of the spirit.

Genesis 4:19
Lamech took two wives, one Adah the other Zilah

If such insignificant women could be mentioned I wonder why Cain's wife wasn't mentioned
I wonder why Seth's wife wasn't mentioned

Your Bible sucks, that's jst it

dexmundo: read your genesis chapter 1 and 2 carefully, cain and abel are not the only chidren adam bare. After the death of abel, the bible said that adam slept with wife again and she bare seth. And after that eve bare daugthers. But as normal, the bible didnt mention the names of the daughters- all through the bible, names of women are not mentioned in family history. There were also fallen angels who slept with adams descendants- the pretty ladies in genesis 6. The women bare giants and these giants really introduced alot of violence that God started regretting ever creating man. But if you study the genealogies carefully, you will find that God wiped off the whole of cains race and even the children of those giants during noah's flood. We all are children of seth whether white black or any other race. Unfortunately, those demons resurfaced and thats why we still fiind women giving birth to giants even after the flood. There were giants everywhere in europe, middle east, asia and africa prior to the time of christs death on the cross
You are mad angry there's no "we" say you. The Yoruba have no "seth" or Adam and eve character in our history.

The Bible frowns against it and been the husband of one wife is a mandatory pre-requisite for becoming an elder
And wat was Abraham thr so called father of your faith?

freecocoa: *spreads camp bed*

My dad is from a polygamous home, grandpa married about 10 wives(i know 2 besides my grandma), my grandma was the no 9, hearing from my dad, aunts and uncles, it wasn't easy, till now, there's no unity amongst them, they don't even know where some of their step siblings are.

I don't believe anything good can come out of polygamy.
So ur dad isn't anything goodhuh

hglmkope: I am from a polygamous family but I have vowed and prayed that by the Grace of God I will not find myself in that situation in Jesus name. I am not just praying it, i am working towards it and I know that God will grant me the desires of my heart.

My mom and step mother had been staying and eating together under the same roof for almost 25 yrs now and in fact most people envy our type of polygamous home because we all live together in peace. I will give credit to my dad for that. He tries as much as possible to treat every of his children equally without giving much preference to either of his wives.
As a child, i detested the whole polygamy stuff and I remembered when I was 7 seven years, I asked my mom why she married my dad (my mum is the 2nd wife and she did not know until she was pregnant). I also told her that she could have walked away with her first child(my sister) when she knew.

During the early years of my life, i hated everything about my family but as I grew, i realised that this is the one thing that I can not change about my life. Ever since then, I love and treat every one with great admiration and respect.

Despite the fact that my family seems to live together in peace, I cannot deny that there were times where envying and strife set in especially when one child excel more than the other.
Take for instance, there was a time when myself and my eldest step brother went to write post UME in one University, I gained admission but he did not. I felt the friction between us during that time. We used to be very close but all of a sudden he was cold to me. I understood then and all I did was just to pray ceaselessly that God should grant him the desires of his heart and God did that just that.

Based on this experience and many others that I cannot share here, I have decided that polygamy is not an option for me. Conflicts among children with the same parents is more than enough. I do not want to compound issues for my unborn children.
and you think polygamy is the cause of envy?

Brothers of both parents envy each other so what's the big deal?

Fulaman198: To me, it's better to be Hausanized though than "Anglicized" meaning English (a European language) is what you choose to learn or educate yourself in. I despise that. I think Africans need to recognize their identity and separating ourselves from one another is not the way to go about it.

As OmarBah mentioned earlier, the Europeans are even closer now than ever. They utilise the "Euro" currency, they have launched joint military programmes hence the "Joint Strike Fighter" programme. Dividing ourselves is not the way to go about it. United we stand, divided we fall.
there's nothing wrong with cultural assimilation either by mass migration of invaders or colonization etc. my ancestors did this to produce the Yoruba identity of today

But you can't separate people who have been cultural painted as the same colour or merge people who have no cultural links and delude urself with "One people" chants

my point is Nigeria isn't one culture, a progressive nation should have one dominate culture not 3 or 6 or more

Omarbah: Only thing is my friends, the Europeans and Asians will sell us guns to kill each other while they suck up our resources. Africa does not need wars. Well let me phrase it this, unless it is to unite our people, we don't need a war.
Like I said, the EU has the ambition of becoming a multinational state, not even multiethnic. Why Africans would move in the opposite different when we are weaker compared to them?
In a multi ethnic state, nobody has said that Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis, Ijaws could not form cultural organizations. But as far as army, currency, foreign policy, only a large multiethnic state can protect our interests. That is reality my friend. No current African state let alone ethnic group can compete in the global arena. Believing otherwise is just foolishness. We need these regional organizations ( I want them to become true states) to protect us. Imagine Cameroon or even Nigeria negotiating a trade agreement with the EU, what a funny thing that would be.
Africa has AU and Ecowas but they not really doing anything, personally I think economy, military and currency should be shared all over Ecowas member states leaving other things like resource control, laws and governance etc. to it's nation...nations drawn on ethnic lines of course

This is what EU is even doing as it is
