Orishas are GODS not humans.

Evolution occured and Creation myths are meant to explain the beginings of a tribe only.

These are stories not to be taken literally.

Subom1: 3. Makeda (Queen of Sheba) from Ethiopia. According to Ethiopian tradition, Makeda (10th century BC), the Queen of Sheba, had a son, Menilek I, by king Solomon of Jerusalem, thus establishing the "Solomonic" dynasty of Ethiopia that ruled, with a few interruptions, until the deposition of Emperor Haile Selassie (q.v.) in 1974. Her name and the location of her kingdom are vague to historians, but in Ethiopic her name means "not thus", as when she announced, "not thus is it good to worship the sun, but it is right to worship God.

In the sixth year of her reign she learned from her head trader of the existence of a wonderfully-governed kingdom, Israel, and determined to visit its king and observe his methods. Her caravan took about 10 months to get through the Ethiopian mountains to the coast, cross the Red Sea and sands of Arabia. King Solomon received her cordially, and after six months' study she concluded that his rule was successful because of the affection and respect he inspired, his organization of government, and his fairness and humility. He convinced her that Ethiopia should relinquish worship of the sun, and adopt worship of God, creator of the Universe.

As she prepared to depart it occurred to Solomon that he could beget a child from this beautiful woman. He implied that he had yet another art of government to teach her, provided a great banquet, and had her food liberally peppered, and her drinks mingled with vinegar - then suggested she should spend the night. "Promise you will not take me by force," said Makeda. Solomon swore by God that he would not, if in turn she would swear not to take anything that belonged to him.

When Makeda became thirsty in the night, she drank water from a goblet placed at her bedside. Solomon, from his hidden vigil, saw her drink, and immediately claimed her - she had taken his water.

En route home, nine months and five days after leaving Jerusalem, she gave birth to a boy, whom she named Bayna Lehkem ("son of the wise man"wink. Despite the obvious loss of her virginity (a woman could be queen as long as she remained a virgin), Makeda continued to rule Ethiopia.
I know people who say this woman was an Ijebu ancestor. It's possible tho, seeing how awujale says his ancestry is from Nubia(North Sudan and parts of Ethiopia)

17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Hell fire will be very unbearable! Repent before it is too late!! grin

Mr 'wise man', if you don't know the way to a place and you asked two men at the same point for direction; who would you follow, the one who shows you with all measure of confidence the way to the place or the one who disputes the claim of the first person without giving any alternative or description of his? angry

Christianity Etc › Re: Understanding The Concept Of Olodumare by macof(op): 10:39am On Jul 15, 2014
As I was told that understanding the universe is understanding the creator itself.

Olodumare is what the Yoruba call this creator.
An Entity of no Genesis, No end, just infinite.
As many translate the name "Olodumare" as "containment of infinite possibilities"

The Yoruba view The creator as natural and balanced, The nature of the creator reflects the nature of life and the universe at large.

A being that is neither "she" nor "he"
Olodumare is understood as a being who is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, Olodumare is everywhere at every time in a literal sense.
Creating out of itself, we are all in Olodumare as it is in us

Many don't understand the essence of omnipresence and other "omni-" qualities.
probably because they misunderstand the philosophies of various spiritualities in relation to the Supreme being

I think one needs to first know the universe before you can approach the creator, and this is our very purpose as humans.
Knowledge builds our consciousness, a higher consciousness brings us closer to the creator.
Which brings me to the importance of Ori.

B'ori kan ba sunwon, a ran Igba o, Ori Origun-Aseda sunwon, o ran mi, bi ori kan sunwon ,A ran igba, Ori mi to sunwon, lo ran yin, Ori i yin to sunwon, lo ran mi

Ori lo da Iwa l'aye, Ori lo da Orisha.

Ori la ba bo, ka fi Orisha sile

If one Ori is good, it would help 200, Origun-Aseda was blessed, he blessed me, if one Ori is good, it would help 200, my good Ori has helped you, your good Ori has helped me.
it is Ori that set up existence, it is Ori that set up the Orisha.
it is Ori we should honour and leave Orisha

This in no way undermines or disrespects the immense of the Orisha but It buttress the importance of Ori

If we can attain that height of consciousness we have achieved Orisha status.
Ori is the path to Olodumare
Culture › Re: Can The Irunmoles Incarnate As Orishas? by macof(m):
hunter21: everybody, everything that is conscious is an orisha. irunmoles are orishas on the universal level.
however there can be human manifestations(not incannation) of irunmoles. e.g jeshua ben joseph is an human manifestation of the universal JESUS, and the different obatalas and oduduwas recorded in yoruba history are human manifestation of obatala and oduduwa on the universal level.
a beautiful analysis
This is where identifying history and spirituality in the Yoruba society comes in

For instance,
Oduduwa coming from the sky, doesn't mean a man falling from space.
It's a "spiritual" event passed with coding

As the OP said Oduduwa is also Olu-Iwa/Olu-Iwaye. That is lord of the earth's existence or the existence of the physical plain

Oduduwa is both Irunmole and Orisha depending on your point of view and understanding of the stories concerning the name and personality

Orisha is basically anything given high reference and adoration, selected from the whole as one to be special.
I call my girl my Orisa, I call my mother my Orisa. Your favorite thing in the world is an Orisha to you. Irunmole are also Orisha in common Yoruba
Everything has Consciousness but the Orisa are selected consciousness, it is it's energies that so influences

But the Irunmole work on a different plain, as independent unseen energies that sustain our world, extensive forms of Olodumare.
They are present in everything - stars, planets and just space.

They cannot exist as men, but their energies aee present in men.

Most Orisha in Yoruba history like Orunmila Baba Agbonmiregun, were filled with the energies of the Irunmole to a very unusual level.
Every Irunmole that is known in Ifa, has represented itself in the Ori of a Great man in Yoruba history or simply manifested as an obvious aspect of existence in this world

Look at Ogun, how many people in history are called Ogun? So many, one in Ire-Ekiti, another in Saki Oyo, one in Ife another in Idanre...but When we speak of Osinmole the Great lord and sustainer of the metallic elements we are not talking men but spirit

Professor Abimbola is the recipient of the UNESCO Proclamation of Ifá as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible
Heritage of Humanity. In November 2005, UNESCO proclaimed the Ifá divination system as one of the 86 traditions of the
world to be regarded as masterpieces. UNESCO then enjoined all nations and peoples of the world to give their
unflinching support to these traditions so that they would not perish. A project entitled “Safeguarding the Ifa Divination
System” was then initiated with the support of UNESCO, the major component of which project is the establishment of
the Ifa Heritage Institute at Oyo, Nigeria. The Ifa Heritage Institute, which is a two-year college, came into being in
November, 2008. The curriculum is based on Ifá and Yoruba indigenous knowledge and taught in the Yoruba language.

FACULTIES of the IFA HERITAGE INSTITUTE
are as
follows:
1.Department of Ifá Studies The vastness
of the
knowledge contained within the Ifa
divination system
is almost unfathomable. In this
department, students
will be taught the rudiments of Ifá
divination, focusing
especially on chanting and interpretation
of Ifá
stories. We would like to preserve the
orality of Ifá;
therefore the primary focus of the Faculty
of Ifa
Studies is the oral memorization of Ifá
literary verses
and the interpretation of the same. There
are 256
Odù of Ifá. Each Odù contains 800
stories, yielding a
total of 204,800 stories that deal with
different
aspects of Yoruba mythology, history,
medicine,
philosophy and other ideas. Each Odù
can be
regarded as an oral or unwritten "book"
of this
comprehensive compendium of
knowledge. Students
will learn verses from each of the 256
Odu, their
meanings and practical application.
2.Department of Languages The languages
to be
taught in this department are Yoruba,
English,
Spanish, Portuguese and French. This
department will
focus on both the oral and written forms
of the
Yoruba language so that students who
complete the
program would be able to speak the
Yoruba language
very well and also be very literate in the
subject. The
English language will also not be
neglected. The need
to include Portuguese and Spanish is
because these
are the two languages which the teeming
millions of
Yoruba people in the Diaspora speak,
especially in
Cuba and Brazil. Of course, we all know
that our
brothers and sisters in Benin and Togo
Republic speak
French in addition to the Yoruba
language. English
and Yoruba will be compulsory, and each
student
should pick one of the remaining three
languages.
3.Department of Medicine All the herbs in
the
Yoruba floral and fauna are believed to
have been
named and categorized by Ifá and his
younger
brother Osanyin since very ancient times.
In the
Department of Medicine, we will devote
our attention
to the study of our indigenous medical
practices,
therapeutics and pharmacopia. Time will
be devoted
to the identification of medicinal leaves,
roots, and
barks of trees, the preparation and
administration of
different forms of medicines, and how to
diagnose
and treat illnesses in the indigenous
African way. The
Ààreèsègùn, chief Medicine Man elected
by the entire
community of indigenous healers, will
play the lead
role in this department.
4.Department of Performing Arts In the
department
of Performing Arts we will teach the
music and dance
associated with Ifá in West Africa and in
the African
Diaspora, such as bata music, dùndún
music, and
music made from iron gongs called
agogo, which is
the most favorite dance step of Babalawos
and
Iyanifas. Theoretical instruction will be
complemented
by real live performances and instruction
delivered by
local experts in the respective arts.
5.Department of Indigenous Technology
In this
department, we will focus on the
mechanisms,
machinery, tools and materials required
for the
production of beadworks, metal works/
blacksmithing,
calabash-carving, preparation of indigo
dye-stuffs,
and other indigenous textile products.
Computer
technology and design will also be an
important part
of the curricula.

Christianity Etc › Understanding The Concept Of Olodumare by macof(op):
Since the mass conversion of many Yoruba into christianity and Islam. Also the actions of Ajayi Crowther, we have seen so many Yoruba spiritual terms and principles being ridiculed in an attempt to gain ground for the foreign religions that wish to destroy our identity.

Esu is now what Yoruba speaking Christians call their devil, as they call Eledumare their jehovah

However it's common knowledge that Yoruba spirituality has no devil, and nothing close to the personality of jehovah or Allah

In truth, Yoruba people are very spiritual, we have always been intrigued by matters concerning the "unseen"
The coming of christianity and Islam seemed to have capitalized on this but thankfully not all were gullible enough to reject their ancestral knowledge or curse their ancestors

But we still have a problem, crashing into Yoruba spirituality from the foreign religions and that is the erroneous use of Yoruba terms

This thread is to discuss the true personality of Olodumare and not the Christian God as thought by Yoruba Christians

If North Africans had gone in search of an English equivalent for matsah, the whole globe will be calling it pancake.

If the Chinese had changed the name of his "lo mein" to anglo the whole world would be calling it "noodles".

Why cant "akara" just be that, why do we need to find English equivalent so it can be called "beancake"?

Each culture promotes its prominence through language and tongue. Why are we so consciously dead?
Any wonder why none of the African languages make the list of public awareness literatures, like Arabic, Korean, Chinese, Sanskrit, and so on?

Everyone in America know about "fufu". This is because we did not give it an anglo name. Let's follow that example. Make them pronounce our native terms instead of yielding to their language as a standard.
I completely agree with this
It's bad enough that the way we overlook our language and everything about our identity, let's not loose it all and make our next generation a people without roots

This King is trying to twist the culture of his ancestors. Well, all Igbos are not of same stock. Most Igbo trace their origin to some where else

like u said some from Ijaw, igala, bini, efik/ibibio. This man is most certainly umueri and umueri are from igala not any Egypt or Israel.

The fact is all South Nigerian groups have interwoven origins...as igala and northern Yoruba groups separated very late in history say 20centuries ago, hence the language similarity...infact igala is a Yoruba language.
Ibibio and some Igbo dialects are also similar.
