Did you really mean that someone without water baptism has not received sonship or the Holy Spirit? Seriously? |
quote author=KNOWMORE56 post=101978064]Since I accepted the Lord as my Saviour, 21 years ago, I have stayed away from any form of alcohol. There are more praiseworthy testimonies. In English language, words have different meanings and applications. This is equally true for Hebrew and Greek. As a matter of fact , firstborn (prototokos) has two meanings. The first is time sequence. The second is preeminence or supremacy. Obviously, Paul uses “firstborn” in the sense of preeminence rather than in the sense of born before. The use is figurative. So Christ being the firstborn of all creation doesn’t mean He was the first to be created , (He’s the creator that was never created) rather it means Christ is accorded a special honour, supremacy or preeminence over all created things , which is reserved for the firstborn. |
@Myer :Beloved, the Bible must be read in light of redemption. Thus, the central message or the theme of the Bible is God’s plan of redemption for mankind. With this mindset, the Bible becomes clearer to you. This is why you’re reading the book of Genesis literarily instead of figuratively. To start with, and in a literal sense, a tree can never give life. It’s clear that that tree is a person. That tree of life is Christ Jesus! John explains this: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4 NKJV And again: “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” I John 5:11 NKJV So life is in the son and not a tree. A tree can never defile a man. Jesus confirms this. “Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”” Matthew 15:11 NKJV So what was responsible for their death? Unbelief! They refused to believe the gospel preached to them. A man is justified by faith in the finished work of Christ . Anything outside this is religion or works. This is what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil stands for. |
Always read the pre-text and post-text before bringing a particular text into context. Trust me, you’d have a better understanding of the Bible if you did that. Read the entire chapter starting from the beginning , that is, Hebrews 10:1. The author mentioned the willful sin. The gospel was preached to them but they refused to be persuaded . They rejected Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for sin. They believed the blood of bulls and goats will take away their sins. “But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.” Hebrews 10:3-4 NKJV Despite overwhelming evidence, they refused to believe that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for sin. This rejection is the willful sin. To the text in question: “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,” Hebrews 10:26 NKJV The knowledge of truth is that Jesus is the sacrifice for sin. So when the author states that there no longer remains a sacrifice for sin, he means there’s no other acceptable sacrifice for sin except what Jesus has done. Jesus is the final solution for sin. |
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV One of the prophecies the Lord Jesus fulfilled as revealed by the Prophet Isaiah. |

It is vital to know that Jesus did not say that He came not to destroy the law. His words: ““Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” Matthew 5:17 NKJV He actually said “The Law or the Prophets”. When a word is removed from scriptures, it gives the text a different meaning or perspective to what was intended by the author or speaker. To start with, the Law doesn’t refer to the moral laws or commandments given by Moses. It refers to the first five books of the Bible traditionally believed to have been written by Moses. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. Likewise, the prophets also refer to the books written by the Prophets in the Old Testament. Why did Jesus make this statement? The way He made use of the Law and the Prophets was completely different from how the scribes and Pharisees used them. Jesus often used the Scriptures( Genesis- Malachi) to persuade the Jews that He was the messiah, as opposed to the Jews and Pharisees who were studious in the letter of the Scriptures. “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” John 5:39 NKJV So instead of searching the Scriptures for Christ, they searched it for their own glory. By his setting up to be a teacher in opposition to the scribes and Pharisees, some might charge him with an intention to destroy their law, and to abolish the customs of the nation. He therefore told them that he did not come for that end, but really to fulfill or accomplish what was in the law and the prophets. The Law and the Prophets were written because of Christ Jesus. His coming, sufferings and resurrection were foretold in the Law. “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”” Genesis 3:15 NKJV “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.” Deuteronomy 18:18 NKJV This was why He said Moses wrote of Him. “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.” John 5:46 NKJV It was also foretold in the Prophets. ““Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9 NKJV ““But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”” Micah 5:2 NKJV Then the prophecy of the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 53, to mention but a few. So when Jesus said He came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets, He meant He came to fulfill all that was written about Him in the Law and the Prophets. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Notice what He says in the next verse. “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Matthew 5:18 NKJV Everything written about Him in the Law and the Prophets must be fulfilled before the heaven and the earth pass away. Also observe what He told the disciples. “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Luke 24:27 NKJV “Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”” Luke 24:44 NKJV In summary, the entire Old Testament was written because of Christ and He became the fulfillment of all that was written. |

Pls ur suggestion can helpIf the family didn’t know you did it, then it’s unnecessary for you to reach out for restitution. Restitution shouldn’t be practiced as a law, but as a principle to establish peace. Hear James: “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16 NKJV The confession and asking the neighbor for forgiveness is the resistution. |

quote author=haddeylium post=97371188]Salvation is purely an expression of God's undeserved kindness!Be mindful of how a word is used in the Bible, especially in the New Testament. To the scripture in view, the first question you need to ask yourself is this: Obedience to what ? Is the obedience to a set of rules or a particular instruction? When you read through the entire New Testament, you’d discover that obedience is used mostly for obedience for a particular instruction. What is this instruction? The instruction is to obey the gospel. In this context, anyone that obeys the gospel , obeys Christ. All you needed to do was a word study of obey/obedience. “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” Romans 6:17 NKJV “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “ LORD, who has believed our report?”” Romans 10:16 NKJV “And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,” Hebrews 5:9 NKJV “in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” II Thessalonians 1:8 NKJV “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,” I Peter 1:22 NKJV Reading through all the above verses, you should come to a conclusion that obeying Christ is obeying the gospel. Therefore, Hebrews 5:9 is not applicable to believers, but to the unsaved. |
quote author=sammy329 post=97303656]Oya read for your self oooo, where did Jesus said a believer can lose salvation.Don’t waste your time trying to convince those that have their own opinions. They won’t learn because they think they know. A word is enough for the wise. |
quote author=Myer post=97268095]“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”” Luke 19:10 NKJV You can see how Jesus used the word “lost” here. Lost means unsaved. Never saved for once. Unless you want to give it a different meaning that fits your narrative. Obviously, your ignorance of simple Bible texts is abysmal. |
quote author=Myer post=97268095]Those who are believers wouldn’t turn traitor and betray Christ. According to John 6:64 , Judas was among those that didn’t believe. This unbelief led to betrayal. Time revealed what was actually in Judas’ heart, and who his real master was. “They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.” I John 2:19 NKJV So his case was not a picture of a swan becoming dirty, but of a pig that never left the mud. |
quote author=Myer post=97268095]Actually, I know who I learn from. I’m sorry you don’t belong to that class. By the way, John 6:64 clearly states that he was not saved. |

“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.” John 6:64 NKJV |
[quote author=Myer post=97265692]Judas did believe in Jesus but was tempted by his love of money exploited by the Pharisees to betray Jesus. Judas like each of the other disciples was saved but still had his flaws. None of them was perfect. Peter betrayed Jesus by lying and denying him thrice. Thomas doubted the resurrected Christ. Jesus occasionally got angry at their unbelief and lack of understanding, etc. Judas was saved just like the other disciples. I mean how can Jesus choose and call someone by himself and you say he was not saved ![]() Show me from the Bible how you came to the conclusion that Judas was saved. The fact that Jesus chose him to be a disciple didn’t mean he was saved. |
quote author=Myer post=97253048]Don’t give your own interpretation to Jesus’ statement. He lost him because he didn’t gain him. How’s a man saved ? He hears the gospel. He believes the gospel with his heart the gospel. Then he’s saved.( Romans 10:9) Simple as a.b.c. Jesus often used another terminology for saved. Clean. “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” John 15:3 NKJV What made them clean(saved)was the word which they heard and believed. Was Judas saved? Jesus gave the answer. “Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”” John 13:10-11 NKJV That’s it! All are saved with the exception of Judas. |

quote author=Toks2008 post=97090309]Theological schools are responsible for the confusion and complexity we have today, yet you used two different literatures to define sanctification. You should ask yourself, are the dictionary and magazine quoted by you endued with more authority than the Bible itself? I took my own definition for sanctification from the Bible but you took yours from the opinions of mere men. Even the Lord says a man is sanctified by the word. The word is the gospel, which when a man hears and believes, is immediately given the Spirit and sanctified. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17 NKJV You don’t preach theological permutations yet you can’t do simple exegesis on sanctification, using the Bible. Hmmmm...... |
quote author=Toks2008 post=97082037]I think you’re the one confusing the readers here. One of the rules of hermeneutics is that you must never use an English dictionary to explain a Greek or Hebrew word. It may interest you to know that the Bible was not originally written in English. I once did a post on sanctification and maybe I’ll have to copy and paste. Sanctification means to be set apart or separate from others. You can check the concordance and also see how the word sanctification or sanctify is used throughout the Bible to have a better understanding. As soon as a man receives Christ, he’s immediately set apart or sanctified as God’s possession. He’s set apart and distinct from the world. There’s something in him that makes him different from others - the Holy Spirit. This man has the spirit of God in him as a result of the new birth. “elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.” I Peter 1:2 NKJV In the foregoing, Peter is saying a man is sanctified by the Spirit, and the Spirit only. Nowhere in the Bible will you ever see a man sanctified by works. I repeat, NEVER! That said, the believer must grow. He must not remain a babe. Again, Peter describes spiritual growth below. “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;” II Peter 1:5-10 NKJV Why must the believer grow spiritually? He explains further: 1.So that he’ll not be barren and unfruitful 2. So that he’ll not stumble in his Christian walk God bless. |
quote author=Toks2008 post=97027375]Sanctification is not a process. There’s a difference between sanctification and spiritual growth. |

quote author=jesusjnr2020 post=96779941]Does Money Really Answer All Things? The problem with understanding of most Bible verses is the application of the rule of context. “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.” Ecclesiastes 10:19 KJV If you checked the kjv of your Bible ( hard copy), you’d discover that the word “things” is italicized. It means it was not in the original but was added by the translators. So the correct rendition would be: “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all .” This is pretty significant because it gives this particular scripture a whole new meaning. The “all” refers to the feast and wine. Money answers to the feast and wine. That is, you need money to throw a feast, and you also need money to buy the wine. So the writer didn’t actually mean that money is the answer to all the problems on earth. Cheers. |
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’” The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”” John 3:3-8 NKJV In the Lord’s discuss with Nicodemus, there’s a vital point that must not be overlooked- the number of times Jesus used Spirit compared with the number of times He used water . Spirit appears three times as against water appearing once! He never used water again after verse 5. This is highly significant- The Spirit is the reality and water is just a shadow. He's saying the water is just an explanation for the Spirit. Once He made that point, He knew it was unnecessary to repeat it again. Water is not required for the new birth. The water doesn't refer to water baptism as some have erroneously preached or taught. Water baptism doesn't lead to salvation. “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” I Corinthians 12:13 NKJV “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism;” Ephesians 4:4-5 NKJV And that baptism is by the Spirit and by the Spirit only. Some have also claimed that the water in John 3:5 refers to the word of God quoting 1 Peter 1:23 “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” I Peter 1:23 NKJV This is fraudulent and illogical, as the word of God here refers to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. A man becomes born again when he hears the Gospel which is the word of God. Once again, and for the sake of emphasis, the water in the third verse of John 3 is the Holy Spirit. |
The English word "and" is a conjunction used as a connector between words, phrases, clauses and sentences. In English, "and" is relatively explicit, almost always joining two different things. The Greek word "Kai" is most often translated into English as "and", but its meaning in Greek goes way beyond that of our familiar English conjunction. In Greek, "Kai" is much more complex in usage, operating in ways that are foreign to English speakers. It could mean "that is", "which is", "namely", or "even". Due to the complexity of the word "Kai", English readers often misunderstand the meaning of some New Testament verses. One of these is John 3:5 ; “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5 KJV In this verse, water and Spirit do not imply two different things. As a matter of fact, water and Spirit are one and the same! Yes, water is the same as the Spirit according to Jesus. How so? Jesus often used water as a typology for the Holy Spirit. In other words, water symbolises the Holy Spirit as one can observe in these verses ; “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” John 7:38-39 KJV “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 KJV With this understanding, John 3:5 can be rephrased thus : "Verily verily I say unto thee, except a man be born of water which is the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God." When does "kai" explain a preceding noun? We need a little bit of grammar to unravel the Granville Sharp rule, especially copulative conjunctions, which is also known as additive conjunctions. Copulative conjunctions are words that join other words and indicate the relation of an additional information. Examples are "and", moreover, and "also". Also, "the" is the only definite article in English language. The Granville Sharp rule states that when two singular common nouns are used to describe a person or thing, and those two nouns are joined by copulative conjunction, and the definite article precedes the first noun but not the second ( or the definite article precedes the second noun but not the first), then both nouns refer to the same thing or person. As an illustration, consider the sentence: Yesterday, I saw the founder and the sponsor of the city football club, Mr. Columbus. The definite article "the" is used twice, before both founder and sponsor. It's clear that Mr. Columbus is founder from the statement above, but the sponsor could be a different person. Thus, it is not certain if Mr. Columbus is both the founder and the sponsor of the football club. However, this uncertainty is eliminated in the following reconstruction: Yesterday, I saw the founder and sponsor of the city football club, Mr. Columbus. In this case, the definite article “the” is used once, before the first noun. Therefore, Mr. Columbus is both founder and sponsor of the city football club. In summary, The Granville Sharp rule can be stated as- Definite article + singular noun + copulative conjunction + singular noun= the same person or thing. Or in some cases- singular noun + copulative conjunction + definite article + singular noun = the same person or thing. We’ll now begin to apply this rule to some Bible verses that are often erroneously taught or understood. “John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:” Luke 3:16 KJV Notice here that the noun "fire" is not preceded by "the". Therefore, The Holy Ghost and fire mean the same thing. Fire is a figure of the purification of sin. |
The post is titled “born of water and Spirit and the “Kai” connection. You can go through it carefully. Better still, let me see if I can copy and paste, thereafter, we can start our conversation from there. Peace. |
