Eteka1: The case had no merit (even in the eyes of a layman). What exactly were you expecting the Supreme Court to crack their heads over? That Buhari doesn't have educational qualifications, or that INEC transmitted results to an imaginary server? The speed with which a case is decided depends on the complexity of the issues raised.
Sentiments aside, the case didn't hold water.
As for the process of picking members of the panel, I think the discretion rests solely on the CJN. You wouldn't seriously expect him to appoint people he knows to have some kind of vested interest or the other in the case to serve as Judges on the same case. One would have expected that the OP knows this obvious FACT, but decided to be twisting issues and logic |

TonyeBarcanista: By TonyeBarcanista
The apex court did not state reasons for the judgement, it however left the camp of the president and ruling party in celebratory mode, while members of the camp of the appellants left the court room sadder than when they came for hearing. This is not the first time judgement are given and details are read at a later date TonyeBarcanista: Firstly, the noninclusion of honorable justice Mary Odili and honorable justice Sylvester Ngwuta as members of the panel of justices that heard the appeal raised concern as both justices are senior members of the Supreme court bench, and the CJN, by so doing, discarded the age long tradition of having the most senior seven justices to hear presidential petition appeals at the Supreme court. 1. Which law compels the CJN to do this? 2. Why will PDP insist on having a Mary Odili sitting on a panel in one breath and in another protest the Justice Zainab's sitting on appeals tribunal. Oh! "age-long tradition" was not your criteria then? 3. The shameless brevity of wanting to pick and select judges who should hear cases is another down-low. You later now talk about compromise of the judiciary. What special interest in Mary Odili? Prior to the judgement, the PDP went to the media creating unnecessary tension, attempting to dictate composition of judges. Who does that? TonyeBarcanista: Secondly, composition of members of panel that heard the appeal did not reflect national spread as it excluded justices from the southeast geopolitical zone in the seven justices that heard the appeal. The panel has two justices each from the northwest and southwest geopolitical zones, one each from northcentral, northeast and south south zones and zero from the southeast zone. This is also against the age-long tradition of the apex court. More worrisome is the fact that justice Sylvester Ngwuta, a senior jurist at the apex court from the southeast zone was excluded. So composition of Panel of judges for a supreme court sitting should be based on ethic and geo-political consideration? It is shameful the length you lot go. TonyeBarcanista: Thirdly, the speed at which the appeal was heard and discarded left observers worried. This is because the names of the seven-member jurists that heard the appeal were only unveiled few minutes before commencement of hearing and the verdict was given less than thirty minutes after conclusion of hearing- all these happened same day and it is unprecedented in the history of presidential appeals in Nigeria. This left Nigerians to wonder whether the whole process was mere academic exercise as the court seemed to have reached a verdict even before parties argued their briefs. See you twisting facts and logic 1. The NJC had communicated that they will not make public the names of judges that will sit for the Supreme court hearing. This obviously did not mean they were chosen at the last minute or not prepared. All the facts at the tribunal was already at their disposal and what they heard were arguments. 2. Academic exercise? appealing to public sentiments are not pursuing the facts and quality of your defense betrays your capabilities for quality opposition. I have watched court cases both home and abroad when judges did not even bother to hear the defense, as the prosecution's case was weak, watery or useless. |

They begged me not to go, and I was already used to them. After wide consultations and reading so many opinions on quora, I went for the new offer just to save my head. If you stay back, your management will see you as a traitor and someone not reliable. It is like a stab. I made my MD to understand and he told me he knows that is what i am thinking and wouldn't want me to think like that, and that he was willing to overlook the fact that i already resigned and then stayed back because of increment and my job will still be intact. Me i no trust anybody, i just carry my bag jejely move. It is true that the new coy might not even value you , they will see it as regular employment and they are paying you to do your job. But one thing you have to know is that no coy values her worker until such.worker gets a bigger and better job. The moment you get another job and give notice of resignation, you have already put yourself in the market. At that point your value has appreciated higher than your current salary, higher than your new salary. If your company is renegotiating with you, they are getting into your head, denying you of seeing your new value. |

Why was it when a new job came calling that they knew to increase the pay? Why not pay their staff salary commensurate to their input if it is so valued? - Valid question One thing to consider is that there is the tendency for you old job not to increase your salary again for a while, but if you perform in your new job and get confirmed, it might come with pay increase. - this is what I have seen happen in many cases Besides that, a new job means new experiences and challenges to surmount and better your career; I have seen people that shrugged off fear of the unknown and were better for it. |

And by the way, she will soon find out that N850k is not so much. I'm afraid, you've made arguments that are so faulty. 1. When did her current company realise her "value". When she indicated to go? Does this indicate they appreciate her or just want to use her? 2. Who told you it will show commitment and indebtedness. This is living in fools paradise. If a company can pay as low as less than 50% of what competition is offering, then such company was taking undue advantage up till that time. I know for a fact that organisation periodically benchmark staff pay with industry standards. When last did this company do this? 3. The new company will not value her much you claim, yet they offer more than double her current pay? You argument here makes no sense. Naturally they will expect here to work harder, because they saw the potential when they interviewed her. 4. Have you asked yourself if you want her to progress or retrogress. Why should she stay in a place that placed her below are true value? What even tells you 850k is are true worth. What if she deserves more yet can only get 850k because 350k was the reference figure The OP has to make choices. Even though remuneration is not the only yardstick in determining a move, when a company offers to match what competition is offering, more than often it is a trap. If you fall for it, you have traded away your ability to negotiate. Even if the OP wants to stay, try negotiate upwards with your current company both in salary and position. If they don't give you both, then you should indeed move. It simply tells you it is not about your value they are thinking about, it is about the cost of replacing you (hiring someone at higher cost - position and salary) |

Yusuf4: Well, while it’s good Federal Government situates Projects that will benefit all, imagine that the only land you bought with your money as a future investment had been marked for project by FG, what would you do? During Jonathan regime, Hausa people benefited by giving out their land for federal projects The compensation for lands taken on the ROW of the bridge had adequately been valued and paid for. This is not about individual but a community asking for arm and leg. “To compound matters, contractors kept away from site often make further demands for payment whenever they return to site.” “By denying the federal government lands for projects and creating unnecessary obstacles for the execution of these projects, it may be unfair to turn around and accuse the same Federal Government of marginalising people in terms of projects allocation. “When it comes to the welfare of the people, governments at all levels should be united by the common goal of improving the well being of the people, regardless of political affiliation. “It is, therefore, impossible to spread Federal Government projects when petty demands or politics is allowed to override the higher interest of the people.”

And you do not see that a 3rd party contractor handling a project is different from NPDC? I am well familiar with issues 3rd party contractors face with communities. In some cases the contractor cannot accede to community demands because it is expected in most cases that operating companies contracting out projects should have handled all community related issues in such a way that contractors go in and do their jobs without hitch. In some cases, communities want more; in others OCs do not do a good job negotiating with communities, hence leave contractors at their mercy. Sometimes greedy contractors will include community negotiation in their contract and charge for it, only to get stuck mid-way and the OC suffers for it. |
