Does Udom Emmanuel know all the safety measures taken in building a 21-storey building to be used by Mobil, before even adding more stupidity by saying it will be increased to about 30 storeys?
Is Mobil going to buy or rent the building? Have they promised to buy or rent the building after the Government builds it?
Where has the Akwa Ibom State Government heard that an International Oil Company moved its headquarters simply because a Government built a headquarters for it.
This man is about to make quick bucks in preparation for the 2019 elections, and his state's citizens, residents, and taxpayers are looking on like Zombies.
I'm getting very angry at this sort of thinking. I so like it when smart people see through the schemes and deceptions of politicians. Udom was Executive Director @ Zenith Bank, he will not just make dumb moves. He's probably sending out a narrative to distract from his true intention. manny4life: Whether Houston is the Energy Capital or not is certainly not the question. Please say what you know and what you can defend. Exxon pays all their taxes to different jurisdiction where their operations are. For instance, local property taxes for which they file annual rendition forms is paid to the Country Appraisal District where the property located. Their oil wells in West Texas say the Midlands would be paid to the CAD over there NOT Houston. Same applies to gasoline taxes as well Payroll taxes. Yes Houston gets a huge portion of the franchise/sales tax, but all jurisdictions get all their taxes. Isn't that the same thing here, too? Mobil pays its corporate tax to the federal govt, and not to Lagos state. Any property taxes on its buildings in Lagos, are captured under Land Use Charges and paid to the state. Their operational base & housing estate in Eket in Akwa Ibom covers several acres, which is far more than the size of the plot their head office occupies in Lagos. So property taxes on their operational base in Eket, would go to the Akwa Ibom govt and not to Lagos.
Gasoline taxes are captured by federal govt, and not by any of the state govts. Revenue from crude as well as oil and gas exploration activities, are also captured into fed govt coffers, not state govt. @LaudableXX, At times I applaud people like you with so much patience to explain something so basic........ |

I somewhat agree he should be given field marshal of corruption Arms Procurement Scandal: Why Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Is After Former Chief of Army Staff Ihejirika
Nigeria's anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday grilled former Chief of Army Staff, Mr. Azubuika Ihejirika, over his role in the $2.1 billion arms procurement scandal under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The retired military chief was questioned over the roles he played in the procurement of arms and ammunition as Chief of Army Staff.
He was one of the 18 retired army officials investigated for Defence Equipment Procurement fraud by a committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari on assumption of office.
The work of the Committee covered the period 2007 to 2015.
The special committee had in its report indicted 18 top military personnel, 12 government officials and 24 heads of Companies for fraudulent dealings in the arms procurement contracts.
Former Chief of Army Staff, Mr. Azubuika Ihejirika The committee led by AVM Jon Ode (Rtd) found that: “3 contracts with a total value of N5,940,000,000.00 were awarded to DYI Global Services Ltd and Doiyatec Comms Nig. Ltd (owned by the same individuals) for the procurement of military hardware including 20 units of KM-38 Twin Hull Boats and 6 Units of 4X4 Ambulances fitted with radios. The committee found that the 2 companies collected N5,103,500,000.00, representing 86% of the total value of the 3 contracts worth N5,940,000,000.00, but only performed to the tune of N2,992,183,705.31.
“In this regard, a review of the procurement carried out by Chok Ventures Ltd and Integrated Equipment Services Ltd established that between March 2011 and December 2013, the 2 companies exclusively procured various types of Toyota and Mitsubishi vehicles worth over N3,000,000,000.0 for the Nigerian Army without any competitive bidding.
“Though the committee found no credible evidence of delivery of the vehicles, the vendors were fully paid based on job completion certificate authenticated by the then Chief of Logistics.
The Committee added in the report that analysis of the various bank accounts of the two companies involved in the arms purchse contracts showed transfers to individuals related to Ihejirika, who was then the Chief of Army Staff.
According to The Nation newspaper, Gen. Ihejirika was asked by EFCC interrogators to account for the transfer of N115m, $132,000, €16,000 and £44,0000 to his relatives who allegedly did no job.
The five beneficiaries are Raymond Ihejirika, Nkechi Ihejirika, Ndubuisi Ihejirika, Orji Ihejirika and Kingsley Ihejirika.
He was also questioned for allegedly awarding N3, 658,293’846.94 contracts to two companies owned by his brother-in-law, Chinedu Onyekwere.
Another query raised for Gen. Ihejirika was seeking his explanation in respect of suspicious transactions to the tune of N845,600,000 and $3,450,619 made from Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria’s (DICON’s) domiciliary and Naira accounts.
The former Army Chief is expected to account for the suspicious transactions alongside a former DG of DICON, Maj.-Gen. E.R, Chioba (retd) among others.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwajuren who confirmed the development last night said Ihejirika requested to go back and gather more information and documents to defend himself against allegations by investigators.

FYI
1. This law or executive order was sponsored by the professional body (CPN/NCS) as white paper recommendation to the FG since mid 2000.
2. This law serves to protect local software developers, allow them to grow and actively compete especially when it comes to govt contracts. I remember once playing golf with Alh. Ogunneye, who told me of how NCS/CPN had written to FG back then that there local comp with capabilities and financial muscle to handle the national ID card project, yet FG awarded the contract to Mastercard
3. How do you expect a local content providers to grow on a national scale when banks, Telcom, Oil and Gas Coys buy as little as HR & Pay-Roll solutions from foreign suppliers? How can local developers grow like the Indian coy Infosys that is probably the biggest exporter of banking solutions and software consulting/offshoring in the world? Did you know that Infosys was just a simple software company in a dingy house in India in the mid 80s?
4. Many of you lot are so ignorant and embarrassingly so. A simple request to be educated on issues you are alien to would have been a honorable option but no, you would rather demonstrate crude ignorance. |
