Pregnancy loss could be a painful experience which even the bereaved woman’s family members and friends might not notice. The woman may be smiling off the incident just to move on but she might also be keeping some degree of pain to herself. Engaging her in a discussion with the appropriate topics or the right words could help her ease off the pain. You would be doing her a lot of good by talking about the right things in such conditions. So how do you know the most appropriate things to talk about when you meet a woman that has lost a pregnancy?
Pregnancy Loss: how to find the right words to talk about

Pregnancy loss can be an isolating experience for women and their families. The grief experienced may be intense, but the feelings of the bereaved may not be recognised – even by close friends and relatives – because pregnancy loss is not widely discussed.
But why do so many people struggle to find the right words of comfort for a family member? Why do they choose to stay silent even when they feel sympathy or empathy for a colleague? After all, pregnancy loss is a fairly common experience. In the UK, about one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, and in 2016, 3,112 babies were stillborn – about one in every 225 births.

In the Death before Birth project (DBB), we looked at the experiences of families who had been through different types of pregnancy loss. We were especially interested in the metaphors they use to describe the experience.
Metaphor is a device through which people define one thing in terms of another – like describing a loss as a “journey”. We reach for metaphors when we are struggling to communicate emotionally difficult experiences such as depression, pain and death. Examining the metaphors that people use can help us to understand the complex feelings that pregnancy loss can provoke. In doing so, together with our DBB colleagues Danielle Fuller, Sheelagh McGuinness, Karolina Kuberska and Meera Burgess, we aimed to go some way towards breaking the silence around the subject.

A Russian priest now being described as ‘evil priest’ or ‘devil priest’ is currently buzzing the internet after viral video shows him violently dipping a two-year-old’s head into water.

Vitaminwater’s #nophoneforayear challenge requires entrants to go a full 365 days without using a smartphone. That means giving up their own phone and tablet as well as agreeing not to use anyone else’s handhelds either. The selected person will have to sign a contract committing to no smartphone usage for the duration of the contest, and if they are found to have adhered to the strict rule for the duration of the contract, they will be rewarded with $100,000.
It’s worth pointing out that the selected person will not be required to go completely phone-free. In fact, Vitaminwater will provide them with a “1996 era mobile phone” complete with a monthly plan for voice communication only.

Vitaminwater has confirmed that the contest is not some cruel prank, and brand manager Natalia Suarez told CNBC that it was simply an ingenious way to challenge people to do something interesting with their time.

Police in Lisbon airport, Portugal, have arrested a man smuggling cocaine in 24 bottles of olive oil. This sounds hilarious but a lecturer in one the Universities in the Southeast ‘transformed’ into Spiderman to attend to his students.

The unnamed lecturer was spotted on Wednesday morning waling into his office in Spiderman costume.



It was gathered that some non-teaching staff present when the incident happened, were stunned to see a man dressed in Spiderman costume walking into the office complex. As they greeted the lecturer and called him his name, he ignored every greeting, pretending not to know anyone since he was not ‘human’. He opened his door, walked in and sat down, waiting for students whom he had told to await the arrival of ‘Spiderman’ to assist them.

It was gathered that the unnamed lecturer had told some students he was a strong member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) currently on nationwide strike for the past one month. According to sources, some of his M.Sc. students wanted to see him to have a final discussion with him before their Dissertation defence which would come up immediately after the ASUU strike was called off so they wanted to get ready before then since ASUU was having serious discussions with the Federal Government and the strike may end anytime.
In order not to break ASUU directives which required lecturers to stay away from academic work while the strike was on, the lecturer decided to ‘transform’ into spiderman, probably on a rescue mission, so he could attend to the students as a super human, not a union member.
It was also gathered that though the unnamed lecturer ‘was’ spiderman, some students were positioned to lookout for ASUU strike compliance monitoring team in case they headed the lecturer’s way.

An Indian woman’s strange illness has made her to spend the last 20 years of her life dipping herself and submerging for hours in a lake.

The 65-year-old woman, Pataruni Gosh, from a village in India’s West Bengal allegedly spent every day for the past two decades submerged up to her neck in the waters of a nearby lake, as a result of this an unknown disease.

She allegedly lives in an unspecified village in West Bengal, India.
This story reportedly went viral in Russia and has not been confirmed by other media outside that country. But because the story was accompanied by a video of the woman, there seems to be some facts in it. Her name, Pataruni Gosh, was also translated from Russian with Google Translate.

Reports have it that every morning, the woman gets up before sunrise and walks into a nearby lake where she remains submerged up to her neck until the sun sets. She has been doing this religiously since 1998, when she started suffering from a mysterious condition that left her body inflamed and sore. The only thing that seemed to relieve the woman’s pain was water, so she started spending her days in a lake close to her village, and she’s been doing it for over two decades now.

Gosh reportedly spends between 12 and 14 hours in the lake every day, as she and her family live in a remote area of West Bengal and are too poor to go to a hospital for treatment. At sunset she rises from the water and goes home, where she does whatever work she can before going to sleep.

The “Indian mermaid” reportedly eats only a bit of rice and some vegetables all day, as her condition and sedentary lifestyle have affected her appetite. Her relatives usually take her meal to the lake, and she eats in the water to protect her skin from the sun.

Chinese Company Fines Employees Who Do Not Walk Up To 180,000 Steps Per Month As Health Policy

A Chinese company is facing public outrage for deducting money from employees who do not walk enough as part of health measures to keep them fit. The company expects each staff to take up to 180,000 steps a month, an average of 6,000 steps a day, or have their monthly salary deducted for every step thy could not complete. This has generated serious complaints from some employees who say they stay long in the office and the train station is close to their house, so finding space and time to complete the steps is a problem.
The real-estate company has been accused of taking a wrong approach to encouraging its employees to exercise. Workers claim that they have been fined 0.01 yuan for every step they failed to take to meet their monthly target of 180,000 steps.

According to Chinese newspaper Information Times, the unnamed real estate firm in the southern city of Guangzhou requires its employees to walk at least 180,000 steps per month. There is no reward for reaching that goal other than the obvious health benefits, but workers who fail to reach the set target must pay every missed step in cash.
The employees’ smart phones record the steps and at the end of the month the company will check the smartphones for the recorded steps and determine who should be fined or not.
An employee of the company identified only as Xiao C. told the Information Times that she missed the 180,000 step requirement by 10,000 steps last month, so her bosses deducted 100 yuan (0.01 yuan per step) from her salary. That’s just $15, but for people like Xiao C., every single yuan counts.

“It hurts a lot!” the woman said. “Our monthly task is 180,000 steps. According to the 30-day monthly calculation, the average is 6,000 steps per day. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is actually a big problem for me.”

A woman in Peru is currently at war with her doll which she says is possessed and has attacked her boyfriend, making him to abandon their relationship.

The Peruvian woman claims that her possessed doll frightened her boyfriend into leaving her after it attacked him out of jealousy.

Berliz, a young woman from Callao, Peru, told reporters that Deisy, a doll she received from her mother as a Christmas gift when she was younger, has been exhibiting Poltergeist-like behavior, including moving its head and limbs, and even attacking people she doesn’t like.
She said the doll’s latest victim was her boyfriend, who broke off their relationship after Deisy “grabbed and hit him” while he was sleeping.

According to Berliz, the possessed doll moves by itself, knocks things down around the house and appears to be the source of several phenomena that cannot be explained. She says Deisy appears to be very jealous and acts out whenever someone gets close to its owner. For example, she recalled a bizarre occurrence from when she was 18-years-old. Her father hugged her and then the lights suddenly went out. When they went back on, her face was full of cuts.
Another time , Berliz’s cousin went to lie down in her bed, but she soon ran out screaming that someone was throwing things at her.

“One day, a bright light suddenly shone in the house, and my bible fell from atop the television. I started crying and the light went out and I saw shadows around me,” the woman recalled.

Berliz says that following all these bizarre incidents, she considered getting rid of Deisy, but ultimately decided against it, fearing that the possessed doll may return and attack her as well. She did try to turn the doll with its face to the wall, so she wouldn’t have to see her creepy face all the time, but when she woke up, Deisy had somehow turned around and was staring right at her.

Akihiko Kondo reportedly fell in love with the doll because it was difficult for him to date women and when he was in low spirit, the doll’s look-alike, Hatsune Miku’s voice captivated him with sweet songs.
The school administrator from Japan ‘married’ the hologram of the virtual reality pop, who is characterised as a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise pigtails and giant saucer-shaped eyes. The ‘marriage’ is a bit of a phenomenon in Japan, reports Metro.

She’s actually a computer program and has had chart-topping songs and sell-out concerts where she appears as a hologram. But for Akihiko Kondo, the relationship is a little more personal. ‘I’m in love with the whole concept of Hatsune Miku but I got married to the Miku of my house,’ he said.
The Miku of his house is a personalised hologram of the singer that floats inside a $2,800 desktop capsule. A personalised hologram he loves so much that he paid $17,600 on a formal ceremony at a hall in Tokyo that was witnessed by 40 guests. The hologram couldn’t make it to the ceremony so she was represented by a stuffed doll likeness. ‘I never cheated on her, I’ve always been in love with Miku-san,’ Kondo said of his bride. They’ve been living together since March. He considers himself an ordinary married man—his holographic wife wakes him up each morning and sends him off to his job at the school. The largest family in Britain has welcomed their baby number 21. Mum and Dad have vowed that their last baby.

Sue and Noel Radford are said to be very excited with newborn daughter Bonnie Raye, who was born on Tuesday weighing 8lb 4oz after a swift 12-minute labour,reports The Mirror.
The couple’s 20 other children are also equally delighted and all lined up ready to hold her as she was welcomed into the family’s 10-bed home in Morecambe, Lancashire, on Wednesday.

Sue, 43, told The Sun: “We’ve both decided we don’t want any more. Bonnie has completed our family.”

And Noel, 47, added: “Some people decide to stop after two or three kids. We’ve made it after 21.”

Sue has also insisted she will not miss being pregnant – and the maternity clothes are going in the bin.
She added: “All the midwives at the hospital were asking if they would see us again next year and we both said, ‘definitely not’.

“We’re just going to keep enjoying the children and enjoy our grandchildren.”

The pair revealed they were expecting baby number 21 in May by posting a video message on YouTube and an ultrasound image of the unborn girl on Instgram.

When the couple welcomed their 8lb 6oz son Archie in September last year, they vowed the little boy would be their last and they were happy to finish on a “nice even number”.

But months later, the family announced it was set to get even bigger with a daughter who will be almost 30 years younger than her oldest sibling.

The parents, whose family featured in the reality programme ’20 Kids And Counting’, say they do not claim any extra state benefits aside from the regular child benefit.

Sue and Noel have been having children for the better part of three decades.

They are already parents to Chris, 29, Sophie, 24, Chloe, 23, Jack, 21, Daniel, 19, Luke, 18, Millie, 17, Katie, 15, James, 14, Ellie, 13, Aimee, 12, Josh, 11, Max, nine, Tillie, eight, Oscar, seven, Casper, six, Hallie, three, Phoebe, two, and Archie, one.

Their son Alfie was stillborn in 2014. Bonnie had the same due date as Alfie.

After Archie was born, the couple said it was “strange” knowing he would be their last.

Technology is beginning to take over a number of human activities but it would have been difficult to imagine that one day news anchors would not longer be needed. That is what seems to be happening now. The first television station with Artificial Intelligence (AI) Virtual news anchors has been unveiled.
This was displayed at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China. The country’s state-run news agency, Xinhua, unveiled the “world’s first AI news anchor,” which was created in collaboration with local search engine company Sogou, report’s TechSpot.

The South China Morning Post reports that the two anchors—one for English broadcasts and one for Chinese-language announcements—combine the images and voices of human anchors with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, mixing their speech, lip movements, and facial expressions. While the voice clearly sounds robotic, and the facial expressions leave a lot to be desired, these will likely become more human-like in future iterations.
“AI anchors have officially become members of the Xinhua News Agency reporting team. They will work with other anchors to bring you authoritative, timely and accurate news information in both Chinese and English,” Xinhua said.

The AI anchors were modelled after two journalists of the agency. The virtual news anchors learn from live vidoes and read texts as naturally as professional news anchors
The anchors are now available through Xinhua’s distribution platforms, including its official Chinese and English apps, WeChat public account, online TV webpage, and two Weibo accounts.

Xinhua says that the technology has “endless prospects” as it would reduce the cost of producing TV news reports and the digital anchors can work 24 hours a day. It’s hard to imagine these AI news readers ever replacing the likes of Anderson Cooper, but in a world of virtual celebrities and Deepfakes videos, who knows for certain what the future might hold.

Chinese Home Improvement Firm Forces Sales Reps To Sell Condom In Street For Failing To Meet Targets, Makes Some To Eat Cockroach, Drink Urine (Watch Unbelievable Video)
A Chinese company is currently under fire for adopting extreme measures to punish sales representatives who could not meet their targets. Some of the sales reps were flogged while some others were forced to eat cockroach, drink a liquid alleged to be urine, or even sell condom or sanitary pad in the streets. The video was secretly recorded and posted online as a result of which three managers of the company were arrested.
The company is a home improvement firm in Zunyi, China.

Three managers of the company were recently arrested for subjecting employees to that extreme punishment.

The arrests came after an employee of the unnamed company took to social media to complain about the humiliating punishments he and his colleagues were being subjected to by management for failing to reach their goals.

His post included a video of a topless man standing in a center of a room and being whipped with a belt by his boss, while his workmates watched. Footage also shows people drinking cups of yellow liquid which some have alleged is urine, reports Oddity Central.

Though the video was later deleted, screenshots had already started circulating online, and the police were notified about the troubling punishments.

“If the sales goal has not been met by the end of this month, the team leader will have to eat three cockroaches for each failed sale,” one of the threatening text messages sent by managers and published by local newspaper Zunyi Yaowen read. Other text messages revealed several cruel punishments devised by the firm’s managers, including drinking vinegar or toilet water, selling condoms and sanitary pads on the street and having their head shaved.

Sanitary Pads Were Originally Invented For Men

A post on a blog called “My Period Blog” revealed that the first disposable sanitary pads were developed by nurses during the war in France. They were looking for a way to control the excessive bleeding among soldiers wounded on the battlefield.
Inspired by a Ben Franklin invention that saved soldiers from buckshot wounds, these disposable napkins were made from materials that were easily obtainable during wartime. They were extremely absorbent and cheap enough to throw away after use.
Before this, women either did not use any menstrual devices or used reusable sanitary pads.
It was only later when the pads developed during the war started being used by American nurses in France that they came to be known as menstrual pads.
Subsequently in 1888, Kotex manufactured and commercially advertised ‘Sanitary Towels for Ladies’ based on the same model of WWI bandages only.
The basic structure of these pads involved cotton wool or a similar fibrous rectangle covered with an absorbent liner.

It was a hilarious situation in a community in Anambra State as two masquerades were bundled into a security van after they were apprehended for flogging and harassing residents of the community.
The community which is located close to a higher institution is said to be celebrating their annual masquerade festival but on Wednesday November 7, the celebrations angered residents of the community as some masquerades decided to be harrasing commercial motorcyclists and their passengers, asking for money from both the cyclists and students moving around. The masquerades allegedly flogged people indiscriminately as a result of which security operatives were informed.

The security men swung into action, gave the masquerades a hot chase and nabbed two of them. People gathered gradually as the masquerades were being bundled into the security van.
