Business › Re: How Banks And Bankers Are Getting Richer Through Foolish Dead Husbands by Mayflowa(m): 12:18am On Jul 22, 2019
obembet:
I was privilege to chat with a female bank manager, she made a scary revelation to me. She told me how Nigerian bank vaults are filled with monies of dead men who kept their bank accounts secret from their wives.

She explained it was against bank ethics or policies for an account officer to inform the relatives of a deceased customer of his account (without his permission). And since the man is dead, without giving his permission, the bank dubiously keeps silent about the money. She told me it is rampant among many businessmen.

She revealed many instances of dead men whose families are still suffering, while they have millions stashed in their secret accounts.

She mentioned one that happened few months back. The man died and the wife was crying all over the place, looking for money to bury him. Whereas the man had nothing less than 60 million naira in his accounts. The banker said it got to a stage that she could no longer bear it, her conscience was pummelling her. She had to go against her bank rules, and got in contact with the widow and revealed to the woman how much her husband had in his accounts and how to claim them.

She also told of another story of one man who escaped death, but his right hand got paralysed. He couldn't sign his chequebook with his left hand and he was in a desperate situation that needed him to sign papers and cheques. That was how he learnt his lesson the hard way. As soon as he got better, he immediately made his wife co-signatory to all his accounts and involved her in all his businesses. What if he had died? That was how his family would have suffered in the midst of plenty.

This stupid behaviour is not reserved for wealthy men alone, even paupers who earn little have their own complex issues.

I just read on the wall of one of our groups where a man complained of how his friend refused to release his ATM pin number to his wife even though there was an emergency at home, and his ATM was at home.

Many orphans and widows suffering today are put in that condition by their stupid dead father.

Women and Retirees are not left out. Someone told me how a relative of hers died and none of her relatives knew that her properties were scattered all over the world. Not even one house. Not even a dime in any of her accounts... If you knew billions unclaimed in banks belong to selfish dead people, you would weep.

Banks and Bankers grow fat on these oafs.

Please do the needful now that you still have the breath to do so. Of course tomorrow is pregnant and only God knows what it will deliver.

A word is enough for the wise

Yes I believe this happen a lot but men are more generous in adding their wives as next of kin. Women would hardly ever include their husbands as next of kin. They rather put their little child or sibling! Men are no fools!

Henrykeeyz19:
More so, the doctor studied Obstetrics and gynecology (O&G) while in medical school, well certified, and qualified to give/grant medical attention to female patients with related gynae complications.

The complainant's argument in all honesty is baseless, lacking in fundamental knowledge of the physician's position in a clinical setting, derogatory and defammatory. I'm sure his lawyer will tell him this.

Only in Nigeria we'd see things like this. If she had been flown abroad for immediate medical attention on a serious gynae disorder, I'm sure the complainant will be muted on the gender of the physician.

Ignorance everywhere!
You are correct but not exactly. A trained doctor would understand the emotion and psychology that led to the woman objection and able to accommodate it with no repercussion. You only looked at one side of the coin which is correct. the other side that the doctor drove out a sick patient should be addressed strongly. The doctor had an opportunity to show how good a doctor he was with a second meeting with the patient that would have made her comfortable with any male doctor after that. She could have died too.

rentAcock:
This whole Timi Dakola vs COZA case has ignited a kind of "me too" movement where women all over Nigeria are standing up to rapists and men in high places who use their influence to molest women. While this is a commendable development and we should all encourage the expurgination of abusive men everywhere, we shouldn't do so at the detriment of good men.

Nothing in her post suggests that she was molested by the Male doctor. She didn't want the scan performed by a male doctor and a female doctor carried out the scan. So why would she still accuse the man of molesting her or having bad intentions? It doesn't make any sense. Maybe the man overreacted by asking her to leave a government hospital of which he is just an employee, but after being accused of such an embarrassing act probably in the presence of other patients and his staff, who wouldn't also overreact?

Everyone is looking for their own Dakola moment to shine but we should always apply common sense to separate the truth from falsehood.
True, the doctor has not violated or hoping to violate the woman in their last patient-doctor meeting but the doctor has an ego that is against medical ethics. Your wife was uncomfortable with a male doctor for her procedure doesn't amount to suspicious abuse. The doctor is trained and certify to carry out such procedure but doctor are also trained to accommodate patient wants. Your wife is not alone here. Some male would also not want their private part be examined by female doctors. In an ideal climate, patients are asked before procedure if they required a male or female doctor.

No disadvantage. Even if you want to evaluate all your degrees, you will only get points for the highest degree. If you should evaluate your MSc and Bsc, you won't get points for two degrees, you will only get points for your MSc.

What is the disadvantage of this? Do I still have the benefit of score derived from 2 or more certificates? Unfortunately, I have filled out the WES and paid with my Nigeria bachelor degree included. It is possible to ask WES to update the evaluation?

There is no "right procedure", sir. You can do as you like.

In any case, you don't have to evaluate your BSc if you have a graduate degree. But if you don't mind slowing down your evaluation timeline, evaluate your BSc with your graduate degree.

However, please be informed that if your BSc or graduate degree was obtained in Nigeria, you are in for a long thing. Because you will need to evaluate your WAEC and/or NECO as well.

So, sir, to avoid unnecessary stress, just evaluate your highest degree.
Thank you for the info. When I saw the WAEC stuff, I had a bit of frustration. Now that I have paid for the WES, how do I removed the Nigeria degree from it? Can I email them to forget about evaluating my Nigeria degree?

They will remove it. Takes a few days. In addition to your email, you should consider calling them. Had the same issue. What I did was to call them like thrice (I was in the US then, so the call was free.). Not sure I sent any email.
Maybe I am missing something. What is the right procedure if you have foreign master degree? Do I forget about sending my Nigeria bachelor degree to WES? or I need t include both master and bachelor for evaluation?

Here you go again. Why do Nigerians get tired of issues. This is a special case that needs everyone review. But thank God it's happening now. Better late than never
You’re not correct. Ese Walter was highly supported as she was rejected also. And that is expected from public opinion. Even the CAN was involved in Walter’s case. Ese wasn’t raped and she wasn’t 17 yet people felt the pastor should hold more moral position in the church. That was also the first time someone would accuse a renowned pastor of God.

This is rape of a child. With the pattern developed, people are taking notice. But Ese Walter is not supportive to anyone. She only see people that vilified her and refuse to acknowledge those that supported her and granted her interviews. She is not nice person

Stop blabbing on and on about silly and irrelevant scholarship nonsense, the young man is heading to MIT with his wonderful achievements regardless if it's 1 kobo or 1 billion dollar scholarship.

So they put up what you don;t agree with, what are you going to do? Call FBI, send petition to EFCC or the CIA? What exactly is killing you here?

Congratulate and be happy for the young man instead of you trying to commit suicide on the internet over amount of scholarship.

Some of you can be petty and annoying with your pettiness sha.
You are the foolish one. From the beginning I was never against the young boy. He did well. I'm still not against him. I only criticized his father and sibling for tweeting falsehood. When you lie, people are misled and are never able to know the right direction to things. But foolish people like you don't take correction.

The scholarship is never more than $10,000. About 1400 high school students get it every year especially if you demonstrate financial need from 6000 applicants (So it won both on merit and financial need) but the best thing about it their partner schools accept you when your result is good. But no, you don't want to hear any truth. Continue to live in your ignorance.

Sadly for you, this young man's achievements and his proud father's moment of glory means more to humanity than your trivial and suicide committing troubles.
You speak like a dull person. That scholarship is well known all over America. It’s a high school scholarship for diversity & inclusion. Like most unintelligent Nigerians, you have refused to acknowledge details. If he won $2.7m, it would be stated on the school website. I have had scholarship all my life from primary to doctorate level both home & abroad. I was just concerned about their putting false information out. What do you want? To accept the false declaration because the boy won scholarship

I won't label anything lies because such scholarships awards are a collection or combination of awards from many colleges.

...besides, of what relevance is the trivial and needless headache over lies and the amount of the scholarships when in fact the story and what we should be celebrating is the young mans accomplishments.
There is nothing displeasing like inaccurate info. Why is the immediate sibling who is supposed to be humble by this feat was first to diss people’s parent about not having children to make them proud. I didn’t see you condemn that!

A simple google check would tell you all about STAR scholarships he won. No American scholarship is worth $2.7m. Even Numbet prize is only worth $1m. Why any of them would lie to hype an already reputable award beats me. And that just water down the glory.

So how much does a Janitor or Americans earn in America? 50, $100?

Are you suggesting that 36k is a low Amount to earn in America or in other countries by Americans? because some Americans earns below 25k Annually in America, I am sure An American would not earn up to $36k as a janitor in America, a street cleaner does not earn up to $36k in America.

36k is a fairly huge amount to earn in Nigeria as an American. some Americans are even on welfare.
You have quoted me out of context. First this thread is about consular office. I picked the 36k because I know most people would be interested in the graduate level without experience. The janitor is about $24k.

Yes a graduate America will not be paid 36k working in an embassy. Diplomats are one of the most paid government jobs. The reason is not far fetched. As a foreign service officers, you represent your country and her secret in another country. In fact most diplomats are in secret service or retired. So their financial wellness and mental state is a high consideration for staff. One reason is to prevent bribe and defection.

The average amount a US foreign service officer earn is $99, 638 (36million Naira annually). In addition they are provided housing, healthcare, insurance and education for family members. So whatever they are paying Nigerians is a living wage. They have calculated the minimum index of financial living in Nigeria before arriving at a Nigerian Annual. The reason for this discussion was to dissuade the mind of people believing the jobs advertised are meant for Americans or filled. This is a typical job at the US embassy that don’t need any connections.

Nigerians foreign service officer are also paid well abroad. In the US. A Nigeria graduate diplomats earns up to $60,000 dollars annually. This is a reflection of living wage in US.

Finally. Americans do earn $20k or $36k in America. That is not my context
