Which skill would you recommend? It'll probably help the op know how to proceed. id4sho: |
Well, I know a couple friends that got theirs 29 days & 30 days after applying. While I agree it won't be same for everyone, even IRCC stats says about 90% r processed with the 30 days service standard. It's not wrong for him to be proactive if there's a delay. Also it seems there's a different way to apply for spousal TRV, someone a couple pages back said he applied under "Special Instructions/Policy" and included their AOR/Spousal sponsorship details. ednut1: |
Red Deer Rebels vs Seattle Thunderbirds It's not soccer but was pretty fun. For single folks, an hockey game is a decent opportunity to mingle😊😊

If you're in Canada/have a family or close friend in Canada it's about $5 CAD use: https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/requesterInformation I barbiegal4home: |
Sir, for the sake of conversation and clarity, a visitor to Canada is not an immigrant.... perhaps a potential immigrant is more apt. While the government introduced the possibility for conversion of VV to WP, there are conditions that make it almost impossible for most Nigerian visitors as they don't have the requisite skills. It's not as easy as some people say it is. A good plan is essential in anything in life especially Japa like you said- A good plan in my opinion will be to research on the government requirements for a company to have positive LMIA assessment, that will help intending VV to WP applicant know why few companies even bother to go through the hassle. Another good plan will be to research on the skills in demand in whichever province/city you plan to go to that companies will have difficulty hiring quite a number unemployed PRs, PGWP, SOWP holders because they don't have the requisite skills and get certified in that skill before going to Canada or immediately upon arrival. Though it doesn't guarantee employment/visa conversion, you at least have a fighting chance. A quick look at most job adverts- they usually state that only citizen, pr, WP holders in bold. And truth is there are PRs that have difficulty finding suitable jobs despite having requisite experience for months after arriving because of internal company politics/bias/nepotism/'Canadian Experience'/Canadian Certifications,etc- that's a story for another thread. There are several cases of stranded visitors in Canada from different countries that leaves an unpleasant feeling especially when you meet a fellow Nigeria that was misinformed & didn't plan well and expect some miraculous/divine intervention sadly. Na why some monikers dey vex for the matter. So again have a good, informed and well-researched plan- even God/Bible advises this & don't burn your bridges in Nigeria just incase it's not as easy as you hoped it would be. Is it possible to get a job that will facilitate Legal VV to WP conversion? Yes but be realistic. I still look forward to meeting or reading about someone that successfully converted their VV to WP Legitimately as there's been none I've met or read about yet. Could be you Kenny!!😊😊 Ìré oooo Kennyg290: |
The caveat is that you can't pass through 2 European/Schengen countries without a Schengen visa but if your layover is just 1 country doesn't matter.e.g- if you'll travel with Air France with layover only at Paris then straight to Canada you're fine. But if the layovers are Amsterdam (1) and Paris (2) before Canada that's when you need a Schengen Visa. Some people book return flights with free cancellation or at a decent cancellation fee, upon arrival they can cancel the 'fro' ticket. Cheers Ma Olaniiks: |
Hi, Kindly send your number, I'll ask admin to add you to an Edmonton group.(Hopefully it's not filled up yet). I know a couple Property managers you could reach out to ask if they have apartments available for rent. It's probably better to rent and have a feel of Edmonton to know if it's works for you and have enough time to make informed decision on buying. Apartments of $1400-1500 in Edmonton was $2,200-$2800 when I was in Toronto. I usually recommend SW(South) it's safer, newer neighborhood, easy drive to anywhere in Edmonton via Henday HW. All the best in your choice&Move. Jolly123: |
What of step mum by virtue of legal marriage to Biological father?🤔 House34: |
indeed.ca Glassdoor.ca Disclaimer: There are folks with PGWP and PR that haven't gotten jobs in their desired career, so competition for most jobs is fierce now even for people in Canada with legal work permits. Beware of fraudulent agents, you need a VALID job offer with LMIA to process a closed work permit. Except the Agent has a registered company in Canada with positive LMIA assessment I strongly doubt the legitimacy of the said "Work Visa". petrusevents: |
In addition to what @Ashirioluwa suggested, you can also attach a screenshot of the earlier mail you sent about loosing access to your account and their response to show it wasn't total negligence on your part and hope for the best. Recently on this group someone missed the passport submission deadline too, sent a compassionate mail and they sent a new PPR. All the best!! iyaaliyah: |

Well, my mother in law got her visa stamped dis week and we didn't even bother to ask for her bank statement as we clearly stated in the invitation letter that we would sponsor all her expenses. In the box for how much was available we put $10,000. If you feel it's needed, by all means go ahead Ma. Cheers may99: |
Which city be $640/$1050 per month no vex? Perhaps you should shop around when ur current contract expires. DereI: |
Your chances are literally at the mercy of the visa officer processing your application, they are pretty inconsistent. Some in similar situation got email to explain why the previous refusal was omitted before their application is finalised, others got their application rejected outright. You can send a compassionate webform(Nairobi&Lagos), stating that you omitted stating the refusal in error and apologize for it. And you'd like that detail to be added to your profile. If you have the email/doc of the previous rejection, upload it too. Possible scenarios- (1)they will acknowledge your webform, add d new details and process ur application with the new details added; or (2) the application gets rejected on the merit of what you submitted& you can reapply immediately without mistakes. Be prepared for both I'd advise. mbanolady: |
I'd say these are not necessary, since she's sponsoring his trip and stay (Hence paystubs+her account statement). Didn't need it for my MIL. lakeside30: |
Invitation Letter, Proof of status (PGWP document), Birth certificate to prove relationship, paystubs, your recent bank statement of account/reference letter if ur bank issues one, employment letter and utility bill to show address is extra but not necessary. may99: |
tannystacey:Most employers prefer to hire someone in Canada already especially since you're PR only after your landing formalities. The competition currently in tech space is fierce, some Indians and Nigerians I've met are do-it-all in tech with relevant certificates, most employers recently do in-person technical interview at dir last recruitment stage too as plenty people lie more than they should on their CVs to look good. On the bright side, you're in a profitable field already- Software QA and Data analysis, perhaps your CV needs fine tuning. If you could find someone in Canada in tech to have a look at ur CV and cover letter even better. People are getting job everyday, so it depends on the news you choose to focus on. Relevant Canadian certifications- best way is from the job requirements/description. Most tech jobs have certification requirements clearly stated in the job ads, Google careers is big among Canadian employers. Some Canadian certification body(depending on field) also looks good on CV. LinkedIn is huge in tech....your 'certificate badges' can be easily verified. Connect indiscriminately with people in ur career in Canada. You never know which of ur connections will post a job that's made just for you. Bottom line, you stand better chance of getting hired when you arrive. Keep trying though as @ednut said, hopefully one works out before you land. |
vikthor74:While you're waiting for your SOWP approval, you can use that time to upskill, get Canadian certifications if it's required in your field. Whenever the Work permit gets approved, you'd be 'market-ready'. |
Hard to tell for sure, what I know is for most folks that just arrive Canada and yet to file tax, they file a form that asks for their previous earnings. That way they can qualify for government benefits and rebates(CCB,GST/HST etc) Electroweb: |
No...that will be double taxation. You only pay tax if you live and work in Canada. Electroweb: |
olabanji88:A good place to start will be typing "full sponsored visa" on IRCC website and see the options you get. Most likely you won't find any valuable information as I don't think there's a visa category like that. Second, it's extremely difficult dou not impossible to get a job from outside Canada as the company will need to issue LMIA. And most companies here will rather avoid that and recycle job ads. Especially if you are not a do-it-all tech wizard. Whatever she's offering... do a research on the cic official website to see the requirements yourself. Nigeria is too hard to dash agent money dis period. All the best! |
Dey play.... ![]() Enculer2: |
Jobsites...check indeed...LinkedIn...Glassdoor. Fact that you have a family in Ontario will ease your settlement if the family is open to hosting you for a few weeks while you sort out long-term accommodation. Some folks are fortunate enough to get jobs before they land usually close to when they land. I did, & I know someone else who did get a job before he landed too. Data analysis na good field. When you check the job websites lookout for possible certifications required (if you don't have them yet) and try to get it before you arrive to make it easier to get employment in ur field. Google careers certificates dey move market in Canada I've heard. All the best tannystacey: |

Hi, First-of, this is Canada NOT Italy, if you have a valid visitor's visa and have not overstayed, there is no limitation on how often or where you can go outside. 2nd what will be the basis of ur Asylum? Put yourself in the immigration officer/eventual judge's shoes, especially since you can afford your child's education in Canada. Then PR is off the table for you for now. Going to border with your documents may result in legit deportation and eventual ban cos the legal term of ur visa says you can't stay beyond 6 months per entry. I feel your best option is to focus on getting a job with LMIA from an employer and apply for work permit before the 6 month elapses. P.S: Whatever decision you make, try to NOT OVERSTAY or do something illegitimate as this may affect if you will be allowed to re-enter Canada in the future even dou ur child is here. As someone advised if necessary, leave first take time to re-strategize and come back better informed &armed. Ìrè óoooo essentialone: |
He can actually pay midway an application and send receipt to them via webform. I remember I & someone else did dis then and they replied that dey got the receipt. & added it to the application. @Kingmat use this link below to pay as soon as possible and send ur receipt via webform to Otawa VO https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/pay.asp The Eligibility: Review required MAY be because you hv not paid RPRF, the moment they get the receipt eligibility will be passed. Raise webform via: https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx Cheers MissMa01: |
Take it easy uncle/Hantie she's going through a difficult time I'm fairly certain you are yet to marry....nor r u in Canada Nobody is ever that busy for a spouse however how much pressure they r subjected to. She's his immediate FAMILY albeit the movies portrays marriage as transient dis days. I hv married friends in Nigeria that work in oil and gas....just their 28 days on/off strains the marriage and you call 4 months just? Some had to adjust their work schedule to spend more time with their family at a lesser pay. Going days...weeks... months without talking to ur spouse is very cruel except the marriage has hit rock bottom already.... one day you may understand. Peace phabulous88: |
Baba...looking past marriage is easier in print ooo especially since its messy already. Wife has suffered severe psycological, emotional & physical hurt already. But I agree that closure is key here I even seriously suspect he filled single in his visa....if she reports him with evidence the consequences will be dire. I hope for the best for her dou ednut1: |
I imagine so....sorry dear. You will be fine I'm sure...thankfully you have your family as a support system. A question dou....do u know if he filled married or single when apply as a student? If he filled single, then to IRCC that's immigration fraud since the marriage predates the visa application. And he will be eventually be deported or lose his visa. Otherwise, they will redirect u to appropriate authority or measures to take. It will be good and therapeutic that you have closure one way or the other All d best sis, perhaps the Good Lord just helped u dodged bullets- unhappy marriage life held by cultural ties many women I know suffer in Nigeria Amakaoyekachi1: |
Hi @Kenn, Like you correctly said, the bolded is quite extremely difficult...I'm saying this from a married person's perspective. If for some reason I travel & I dont hear from my spouse all day...I get so worried I may have difficulty focusing on anything. I literally call everyone close to her to ensure she's fine. So I imagine the OP has been dealing with this and more for months before coming to voice out on nairaland. @Amakaoyekachi1 There's no need to butter the situation up... I think one important question u sud ask urself before u decide to do anything is- "are u prepared to live with the unavoidable consequences of whichever decision u make". If u r REALLY legally married and baba ghosted u for months(hurricane did not strike his school and cell towers close to him), plus u have a mail threatening u to leave ur husband, u have evidences of ur unsuccessful efforts to communicate with him. I honestly think u dont need an handwriting on the wall before u reach out to IRCC. You r his wife not girlfriend!!!....I still have difficulty relating sha(I stand corrected) Like has been said he will be deported(probably in addition to a failed marriage) unless he has proofs to refute your claims upon examination. Are u willing to live with that consequence?? He likely filled single in his application, did u both agree to this Perhaps he convinced u it's the better option.I'm sure ur parents know of the situation....what have they done so far?(In d spirit of Nigeria culture) Ultimately the choice is urs- (i)move on with ur life and leave him to God to judge as most Nigerians do or (ii) reach out to immigration with the evidence u have- being a victim, sit back and see d beauty of western world especially in supporting women. But as before advised....try to reach out to him telling him of ur plans...if he doesnt respond, tell his parents ur plans, if he calls ur bluff den u have given him all opportunity to come back to his senses according to Jesus at Matthew 18. Cheers #MyOneCent Kenn55: |

Perhaps he convinced u it's the better option.
