In response to bawomolo's post, you should check the videolink below for the real McCoy, don't bother with semantics that he quoted.  The video below shows what you will not hear from the secular media who are anti-semitic.  Listen to an ex-muslim terrorist whose grandfather was a grand mufti of Jerusalem, who connived with your bishop hitler to gas the Jews.  A picture speaks more than a thousand words, this time around is a moving picture.

@ Mazaje,
This was fulfilled 2 verses after Mat 16:28. John, Peter and James saw Jesus in glory.
There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Mat 17:2.

Knowing Jesus in glory is the coming of his kingdom. 2 seconds are sufficient for the children of God to know this simple truth!
apologetics eh. . . . .james peter and john saw jesus in his glory eh? had jesus already ressurected when when they saw him like that? so knowing jesus in his glory is the coming of his kingdom eh? (if you read the passage in full you will see that it has nothing at all to do with the apologetics and spin you are giving) is that what the bible says or you own spin?  grin grin grin. where then is the said kingdom? by the way jesus was talking to so many people when he made that statement according to the bible. here is what he said. . .

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
Mat 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
lets agree with your spin for a while, the new question now is why did jesus say that he will come in his fathers glory with his angels? the bible did not say that peter, james and john saw angels, did the bible say so?  did he reward them according to what they have done according to what he said when he made the declearation to his listeners? this itself is another lie. . . . by the way gospel accounts do not even agree on where jesus first appeared to the 11, matthew said that jesus first appeared to them in a room in jerusalem while, luke said that it was on a mountain in galilee(jerusalem and galilee are at least 100km apart). i dont believe in the bible but you do so can you tell me where jesus first appeared to the 11 of his disciples after he was raised from the dead? is it in jerusalem of in galilee. . . .

Mazaje and co. took 2000 years and still could not understand this simple truth. As the scripture says, the secrets of the kingdom of God are not given to the hard hearted unrepentant people but to those who humble before Christ. It will be unfortunate that those who harden their hearts against Christ will see the glory only after death and at the judgement which is a dreadful truth.

Those reading this post have time to stop fooling around with their souls, life is no joke, it would be eternally damning if Mazaje and his likes continue to play with the blessed name of Jesus and mock God.

Only through repentance and receiving Christ one can escape eternal damnation.
the same bible says that the bible god is the one that hardens peoples hearts. . . . that passage was added to the bible to explain away passages that can not stand on their own. . . . .

Mat 10:22  All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Mat 10:23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
spin this one too. . . . .

@ oyb

That is a false allegation . . . for all your mischievous rants atheists will tell you they would rather bother with christian threads than islamic threads . . . that speaks volumes especially for frauds like you who cry the loudest that you are all about "peace".

Really? Is it an absurd assertion to correctly deduce that mohammad COULD NOT HAVE VISITED THE TEMPLE in Jerusalem as he falsely claimed since there was no temple there between the time he was born and the time he died? How could a man claim to have prayed in the temple with the jewish prophets when they had long been dispersed and the temple destroyed over 400 yrs before mohammad was born? The mosque on the temple mount wasnt built until about 50yrs after Mohammad's death . . .how is it absurd to point out the fact that ur "prophet" is nothing but lying scum?
here we go again, one deluded freak telling another deluded freak that his beliefs are right and the others is wrong. . . the same thing could be said about the bible and its writers. . .we have historians like jospephus that recorded the history of herod extensively, he wasn't a kind reporter when it came to reporting about herod but he never said that herod gave orders for babies to be killed in judea, infact that story only exist only in the bible, no roman or jewish historian has ever written anything about that.  all that we know about jesus we know through the writers of the gospels but they fail to agree on when jesus was born, when he was crucified(day and time), the events that happened after he was crucified and how he lived his life. . . . . for example matthew said that jesus was born in the reign of herod, who died in 4 B. C. (2:1). luke said that jesus was born during the syrian governorship of quirinius, who was not even appointed to the position until 6 A. D. (2:2). so when was jesus really born? when was jesus really crucified? on the passover or on the eve of passover? the gospel writters do not agree on that. when did jesus first appear to the 11 of his disciples after he died, on gospel account says in a room in jerusalem and another gospel account says on a mountain n galilee, but the problem is that jerusalem and galilee are at least 100km apart and we all know that a room i not a mountain(their accounts cancel each other out completely). . . the gospel writters do not even agree on what happened at the tomb, their accounts cancel each other out completely. . .how absurd then is it to point out that the unknown writers of the gospel are lying scums?

When atheists attempted to write about your religion what did they get? - Bans, locked threads and death threats - yeah this coming from the people of "peace".

christians have sat back here and debated countless times with atheists . . . we havent whinned or cried . . .
i thought that you guys were crying that you want seun to create a new board for atheist.  . . .we see all your anger, bitterness and fear which you hide under the pretext that we are spamming the religious threads or asking unending questions. . . . there was a time you even accused me of only attacking the hebrew god of the old testament for murders but not allah when allah has killed a lot of  people too in the koran. . . .

In other words you tacitly support violence . . . and believe that but for democracy we would be no different from you? Sorry, leviticus was for JEWS during that period and does not apply to christians AT ALL. You cant continue excusing your own violence and predilection for death by crying that democracy is what stopped us from joining you raging pits of darkness.

But it talks about martyrdom no?
leviticus was for jews only but the same god you believe you serves commited all those attrocities in leviticus. . . . . europe was once under the leadership of christianity and the catholic church and we all know that they addressed those days as the dark ages because of the things that happened. . . democracy is what is really keeping christianity in check. . . . remember the biblegod is one of the greatest advocates of slavery. . . .

Again when they cant find something to say they easily turn to lies and slander. I started to take note of islam after 9-11. There was no nairaland to post on then . . . does that make sense now slave of allah?
if it is not because moslems are attacking christianity on nairaland it is because of 911, muslims have been killing people in the name of islam centuries before 911 you demented lair. . . . .

There is a huge gulf between what the atheists do and what christians seek to do. Christians largely do not care about muslims . . . 99% of christians have probably never read a quran and will never do . . . false religions are simply what it is, a ploy of satan from the pit of hell and i make no bones about that.
i was once a christian and i have been to churches where pastors spend too much of their time talking about islam even though i must say that most of the churches are based in the northern parts of nigeria. . . .

The problem with the atheists has not been that we want them to go away (like you muslims want since you cant kill us or threaten us directly), we simply want them to stop the habit of spamming EVERY SINGLE attempt by christians to raise a genuine topic.
You are clearly lying here, no atheist post will survive on nairaland if this site was owned by davidylan, nairaland is the only religious site that is moderated by a christian which i am a member and i have not been banned. the only reason is that the site is owned by an atheist. . . i have been banned so many times on many other christian forums out there and the bottom line is that atheists would not have been welcomed here if the site was owned by a christian. . . . .so enough of all your shenanigans. . . we see through it. . . .

Now muslims on the other hand denigrate the bible (even though they rush to use it to support islam when it suits them), dishonestly appropriate biblical men of God as muslims (even though those men were NEVER arab, did not know allah and have absolutely no place in the quran) and drag the precious name of Christ in the mud as nothing but a slave of allah.
Muslims brazenly STEAL christian prophecies (the coming of the anti-christ and the coming of Jesus) which allah NEVER predicted in his quran, continously refer to jews (you know the descendants of those they falsely call their prophets) as apes and pigs, denigrate christians as infidels and YET cry loudly when we try to correct these obvious attempts by the devil to subvert the truth?

Sorry to be a thorn in your flesh . . . the truth can be really painful to bear.
the same thing can be said about christianity. . .the writers of the new testament forge jewish text through mistranslation and created the idea of jesus. if you ask jews why they do not believe in jesus they will tell you that the christians changed their religious text, killed them and burned most of their religious text. why where the christians killing jews in europe and burning their religious text during the dark ages? most of the prophecies talked about in the old testament were either mistranslations or outright forgery. . .new testament writers claimed that the resurrection of the messiah on the third day had been predicted in the scriptures. but why is it that bibliolaters cannot produce an old testament passage that made this alleged third-day prediction? the passage in isiah is an outright mistranslation. . .writer of the gospel of matthew flatly lie about the prophecy of jeremiah the prophet there are many more. . . . . you can say what ever you want but the fact remains that you are living in the same bubble as the moslems. . . deluded freaks. . . . .

@ Mazaje

I am not sure that Paul taught that Mazaje. For you to understand what Paul is saying you must understand the manner of speech that was exhibited by Paul and other writers. Although Paul used in some cases the present tense in this part of his letter, it didn't necessarily mean that Paul expected to be alive at Christ's second advent. The expression "we which are alive" indicates that should Christ come in their life time and and they happen to be alive, they would be delivered. It is more a statement of hope that Paul used to comfort God's people who continued to suffer under the hands of the Roman persecutions. You have to see the context.
D grin grin grin grin is this another case of we know what the bible is saying but not what it actually means or what? paul wrote in very clear terms what he feels will happen during his life time. many christian apologist i know of have conceded that fact and concluded that he was wrong in making that prediction. paul's writings are very clear. he thaught that jesus was going to come during his life time. . . .

1 Thes. 4:15-18
"15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
this passage does not need further explanation.

Notice how Paul expresses himself in 2 Timothy 4:6-8. He is about to be beheaded, but listen to the tone of confidence that he displays. He speaks as if he is already being rewarded. In 1 Thessalonians he speaks with a similar confidence to include himself in the "we", but in truth what that means is that Paul could not have merely said "when you are alive", because what if Christ had come in their lifetime?

"6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
there is nothing there for me to take note of, the only thing that you should take note of is that paul when writing to the thessalonians wrongly predicted that jesus was going to come during his life time, when that did not happen and he realized that he was going to be killed he accepted and moved on, hence the letter in timothy(where did he write the letter to timothy? did he write it in prison?). . . by the way even jesus told his disciples and listeners that he was going to come during their life time. . . . .
Christianity Etc › Re: The Many Lies Told By Jesus by mazaje(op): 7:37pm On Apr 01, 2009
Mat 26:61 and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' "

Mat 26:62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?"

Mat 26:63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, [fn] the Son of God."

Mat 26:64 "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Again here is jesus telling the people that were at his trail that they will be alive and see him come in the clouds. we all know that he made a very wrong prediction. . .

Mat 10:18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

Mat 10:20  for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Mat 10:21 "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.

Mat 10:23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Christianity Etc › The Many Lies Told By Jesus by mazaje(op): 7:04pm On Apr 01, 2009
Here are some of the lies told by jesus(new testament god)

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
Mat 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
Jesus says that some of his listeners will not taste death before he comes again in his kingdom(he made this asserions about 3 different times in the bible). This was said almost 2000 years ago and we all know how the lie turned out.

The bible is very clear about how prayer is supposed to work in mark 11:24 Jesus promises:"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

in john chapter 14, verses 12 through 14, jesus tells just how easy prayer can be

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it"
We all know that this is not true. i know a lot of christians that pray with all faithfullness but there prayers went unanswered. . . . .

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
we know that this is clearly a lie, there a lot of christians that drinkk deadly things and were killed, a lot have been killed by serpents too. . . .

Jesus preaches 'whoever shall say 'you fool!', shall be in danger of hell fire', but shortly after this rages at the Pharisees saying 'you fools!

This sort of arguments tend to go round and round in circles. Problem is it's another part of the bible that shows the bible is largely tainted with the cultural views and norms of the people that wrote it. It's impossible in this present age to justify verses that clearly say women should keep silent and be subservient to their husbands. Women nowadays are leaders in many facets in and out of the church. Question is how can people still try to claim that the bible is the inerrant word of God. If the bible is then it means God did not realise that sometime in the future woman will have more or less the same rights as men.

@mazaje,
I see u really do not get things.I quoted the verses of 1 Thessalonians as described by the author of the post(rich_john) and they included verses 16 and 17 0f chapter 4.Verse 15 was not included. It was from these same verses that u made ur initial comment about Paul.
Now u accuse me of being dishonest?
Man,u really do not know what u're talking about. You can't seem to follow things as they are.
But,be that as it may, even if u include verse 15,it still does not change anything. You still simply do not understand the use of grammar/english language in those verses.
Since ur understanding of the language is obviously very limited,u definitely cannot make proper conclusions.
So there's no point in trying to make u understand what it was saying or what other topics are saying. It is up to u now to get a better understanding of the use of the english language.
there is no point in trying to make me understand? what do you want me to understand? your own apologetics or what is written in the bible? paul thought that jesus was coming back to meet him alive there is no way you can spin that. . .
1Th 4:15According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

1Th 4:16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

1Th 4:17    After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
jesus himself told some of his listeners that they will not taste death until they see him come back in his kingdom to reward each person according to what he/she has done.

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
Mat 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
jesus specifically told one guy that he will see him come and establish his kingdom during the guy's life time, he also told people living at that time that their generatin will not passaway without him coming back  to establish his kingdom according to the bible. . . it has been 2000 years now and we know that he lied just like all the other gods out there. . . .

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent. ,  Mat 26:62-63

Blessings,
this depends on which gospel account you read, in other gospel accounts jesus did not remain silent he gave an answer. so it all depends on which gospel account you read the story from. read the gospels individually and you will see that the writers do not agree on any one things, their accounts flatly cancel each other out. . . .

Well. You should be careful of what you post, and ALSO against blaspheming.
The word "bible" did u see it in the bible, yet you just mentioned about the bible. So also the word rapture is not in the bible and this is neither a fiction nor human imagination. To start with, what Paul spoke about in his epistles, he did not say those events will happen in his lifetime. He waited for the promise not knowing the "times and season" In the days of Noah, Noah told the people of the impending destruction through the flood for about 120yrs  not knowing when the flood will come, yet the people around him did not believe. Do you remember Jesus referring to the days of Noah when they ate and drank? affirming the truism of the event. The sons in law of Lot mocked him when he told them that  destruction was looming upon the city, and even while they left, the wife looked back from behind him and became a pillar of salt, did you hear Jesus warning his disciples saying remember Lot's wife? affirming the truism of that event too.  Jesus while leaving his disciples  said i go to prepare a place and i will come back and take you to myself in my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so i would have told you. Here, he spoke about the rapture.  Did you remember also that Jesus said no man knows when the son of man shall come in Matt 24? The apostle Peter said in the last time many scoffers coming in their own lust will question "where is the promise of his coming, for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation". 2Pet3:4, and he hinges it on the fact that they are willingly ignorant (v5). He now explains that the reason for the seeming delay is God's patience and longsuffering wanting me and you to repent of our evil ways (v9).
your are more willing to provide emotional apologetics than to read what is actually in the bible here is jesus in his own words according to the bible. . .

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
Mat 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
even jesus told his listeners that he was going to come in their life time and we know that it never happened. . . .

God cannot contradict himself. The rapture is real. it is imminent.
its very clear that you have never really read the bible. . . .

Jesus told us of famines, pestilences and earthquakes to precede his coming, and tells us to pray to be accounted worthy to escape what will come upon the earth. The events sch as the global meltdown. is it not a pinch?
after making those statements the same jesus said that that generation will not pass away without him coming back in his kingdom. . . read the bible and stop emotional apologetics. . . .

IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SAY THERE IS NO SUN. DOES THAT VALIDATE YOUR ARGUMENT?

TURN FROM THIS BLASPHEMY AND SEEK FORGIVENESS FROM GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.

THANKS
what is blasphemy? blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves.

Truth11:
Did Jesus say this? Maybe in your scriptures, certainly not in the Bible! You dont know the Bible so you misquote and thoroughly confused. Let the children of God handle their Father's word and you dont do that as it is a closed book for those who dont accept Christ.
Jesus preaches 'whoever shall say 'you fool!', shall be in danger of hell fire', but shortly after this rages at the Pharisees saying 'you fools! it's there in the bible go read it up. . . .

I'm beginning to see that ur understanding of english language is ur problem. How can u honestly read those passages and say Paul expected to be alive when the event takes place?Does that wrong understanding of urs agree with what Christ said about the time of the event in matthew 24:36?
Maybe I should post those verses here for u to read and understand:

1Th 4:16-17
(16)  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
(17)  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1Co 15:51-58
(51)  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
(52)  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
(53)  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54)  So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
(55)  O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
(56)  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
(57)  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(58)  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
it is very clear that you are a dishonest person you intentinally ignored to quote the verse from the thessalonians.

Mat 24:36
(36)  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
the same jesus told some of his listeners that they will not taste death before he comes again in his kingdom,  . . he wasn't talking specifically about day or hour he was talking about a time period(the life time of some of his disciples and listeners), he made those assertion about 3 times in the bible, he even told one guy that he will see him come and establish his kingdom. we all know that it never happened. . . . .

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
Mat 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
This was said almost 2000 years ago. the people that complied and edited the bible made a great mistake by leaving out this part in the bible, they should have removed it when making the final compilation. . . .
