Again I insist the threadstarter has reached his conclusions because he/she asked the wrong questions or did not even know which questions to ask. See, the problem is not that these leaders are "bad" per se, these guys can lead people to swindle large funds without being noticed, we have Nigerians that run big successful companies, we have Nigerians that run huge churches. These guys are leading the nation but they're not doing it in ways that will benefit the nation but ways that will benefit them. I have no doubt then that if given the right incentives, they will lead the people the way the people want to be led.

The problem lies with we common Nigerians. We have not provided any incentives to make these people commit in advance to be good leaders after they have been elected. This is a commitment problem here and every nation on this planet has had or is having this problem. How do we know you are going to abide by your promises after you've been elected? We the people need to provide big enough incentives, apprently more than the obvious "the people are suffering" reasons. We need to be able to let them know they will be impeached or removed from office if things do not go the way the promised. The constitution should provide for this somehow. We should be able to contact members of House of Reps./Senate from out ward and inform them of our complaints and hope they'll work to solve our problems. Again, there is no doubt in my mind that these guys can lead, we just don't give them a good enough reason to show good leadership.

Now some skeptic out there will be wondering, why don't Europeans and white nations have this same commitment problem from their leaders?, The answer is quite simple, they had these problems about 500 years ago and they've been able to resolve it and move forward. Think of England under the Stuarts (King JamesI, King Charles e.t.c.), their "bad" leadership led to the Glorious Revolution which forced a change in the constitution giving more power to the parliament. This provided a credible threat for the king to be removed if he does not do what the people wants. This threat of dethronement provided the incentive these supposedly "bad" leaders needed to become good leaders. If the English thought like Shango back then, they would have called for some Egyptian to come and lead them seeing how they could not lead themselves. Instead they were able to figure out that these bad leaders can actually be good leaders, only if we give them a reason to lead us in the right direction and not lead us for their own selfish gains.

The problem was not only limited to 17th century England, bad French leadership led to the French revolution which was a battle between the common peasant and the few aristocrats they had. Their was the Spanish revolution and the thing goes on. In conclusion, there is a commitment problem when appointing people to lead over you. This problem is not limited to Africa but past European nations also faced them in the past. These so called incapable leaders can be capable when we the people choose to stand up and make them responsible. It is not a problem of the black man being incapable but a problem of the black man presently being non chalant about their role in the society. When we figure this out (hopefully sooner rather than later), we will be able to turn these incapable leaders into good leaders. If they know they'll be removed and thrown in jail if the mess up, they will definitely listen to the people and do as they please. End of Story!

what u are saying does'nt make sense . we all know that japan and US are both developed economies, argentina too has a better economy than all the african countries so i dont know what u are talking about .weather japan is behind the US or not it doesnt really matter because japan is the second biggest economy in the world and its citizens are enjoying from it thanks to good leadership if they had they kind of leaders we have here it would have been a different story altogether. argentina is the second biggest economy in south america, besides that it's far ahead of all african countries. and its government is more accountable to its people than all the african government i remember at a time not too long ago they changed like 3 leaders in 1 year because who ever came and saw that he could not contibute to the nations economic problem stepped down willingly and allowed some one else to try, but that is not the case with africa, a losser will hold onto power for years and will not want to hand over to some one else to try. talking about japan and argentina or russia is not a point here because all these countries are better than all the african countries and have a far better leadership than what we have here in africa despite their own problems too.

what self confidence do we have left? is it the type of self confidence that our leaders are exhibting here? i rather be poor in self cofidence and have a better life than to be rich in it and be leading a miserable life  with no hope forth coming in the near future. Even our leaders don't have the believe that they can help. us all over africa they steal and take it to the white man's country, they send their children to school in the white man's country the retire and run to the white man's country just to show us that they have no faith in the system and they can't save us , its the same every where u go in the continent.
people keep on saying that its because we have a few bad leaders thats why we are in this present state .  but i will say what few bad leaders? how? out of 54 countries and no leader is good and u say few bad leaders, most of african leaders(90%) that have ruled and are still ruling are bad. so its not about the issue of leadership since we have had so many leaders and all have failed us besides our leaders did'nt decend from heaven they came from within us so its us that are doing the injustice to our selves not our leaders. we just are not capable of leading our selves because we have clearly demostrated it. if countries like sigapore,oman,bahrain, malaysia, dubai, kuwait and qatar can attain the level of development that have recorded  in  about 30years in mean in just about 30years due solely to good leadership then we definately have to agree that we have a problem and are incapable of leading our selves. the white people too are against them don't think its only we the africans that the white people are explioting they are explioting them too but they always use their senses while we never use ours.

Japan have been living under a constitution that was drafed by some american military personal for over 40years with the hope of impedeing progress and development but they still survived under it. the constitution contained things that were allien to them like democracy and freedom of speech and association, it contained so many things that were not part of the japanese culture and way of life but they lived and used it to develop them selve to the shame of the white people that drafted it. they later changed it but not after using it for close to 40 years. they recored sustainable development under that constitution which was a delibrate method by the whites to hinder their progress but they still excelled. if they can do that then why can't we. all we do is blame the white people for our own self inflicted misfortunes and suffering when others that were being hindered of progression by the same white people progressed. its not only us so we have no right to cry over that.

what are we talking about here? the arabs have proved that they can lead them selves, their leaders have shown that they are capable, see the transformation being recorded by UAE(dubai), Qatar, Kuwait, Iran and Saudi arabia(do u guys think the white people are happy with that?) why havent any african country excelled. the only country that did were the ones that had heavy white infuluence. so the talk of white people stealing from us and being responsible for our problem is just a mere stupidity. they same white people are stealing from the arabs and the orientals too, but they are still growing. why can't we be like them too since they are growing despite being under heavy infuluence of the white peopel to disintegrate. some one made mention of Iraq but we will see. as far as i know once the war in iraq is over which i know it definatly will, then u guys will understand what am talking about, because we all will see a very speedy development . iraq will come and pass all the african countries and start competing with the europens just like dubai, kuwait and the other arabic countries. all the need now is for the war to be over. i will say it again and again its better we experince aparthide for some years and be where south africa is now than not to experience it and be where we are now. because there is no difference with what is happening now in nigeria and most african countries and what happened during the arpathied era. the same injustice that they white people unleashed on the south africans is the same injustice that our leaders are unleasing on us now.

we are still under our own type of arpathied. the nigerian goverment has stole more money fron nigeria than what the white people stole from south africa during aparthied era. the egovernment of equtorial guinea has stolen more money from the country than any white government can steal from it, mobuto sesesiko stole more money from congo drc than any white man can. most african leaders have stole more money from their countries than during the colonial era or when the white people were in charge. the injustice that the african government are displaying on their citizens is much more than what the south africans experienced during the arpatheid. Charles taylor has been more cruel to liberians compared to the cruelity the south african arpathied leaders exibited to the black soth africans.

marriage's primary aim is for procreation but if u don't what kids then there is no big deal there. it's up to u and ur spouse and as far as u can live with it there is no sweat at all. i have seen childless couples that are far more happier than couples with kids so its no big deal . as for me the whole idea of marriage and having kids is not just on my cards (it doesnt appeal to me).

religion is really the opium of the masses, we are where  we are in africa cos of our religious beliefs, imagine where a 23 year old battered plane crashes and people say its the will of GOD. when people drive recklessly on untared roads and die the still say its God's will. everything is God's will where as in the white man's world its intelligence and smartness that matters not God's will.
our leaders use God to decieve us and steal all our money away. instead of striving to succeed we sit lazily and wait for a divine intervention. we spend hours at churches and moques all to no avail. china's government is atheist  but they just use their common sense to do what is right and serve their people. most of africans government most especially the nigerian government is very religious but yet its the worst government around why is that so? don't u guys believe this idea of religion is just for the white people to use it to get dominion over the earth? cos in the white man's world religion is becoming strange yet development is dwelling there . in africa where religion is the oder of the day people die younger, poverty is the oder of the day and dishonesty is the way of life despite the heavy belief in God. i really am so confused about this religion of a thing.
