Emperoh might be saying the truth but KPMG and PWC pay like 120-140 thousandper month for graduate trainee and they employ quite a handful year- in- year out. The sad thing is that a lot of their staff quit after a year or two for better paying jobs. Those jobs are only good when you're up the cadre.

Note: I passed both tests for the two companies and was even offered a place by one. Since I was looking for oil and gas experience (as an engineer) I declined.

I swear you're making me LOL. If you had read my previous posts you'd have seen where I said my close friend that works in ExxonMobil and that confided in me graduated with a first class degree. I have never said that most folks that got the jobs weren't worth their onions. I simply said external help was involved. For example I know someone who had a 4.02 CGPA from Babcock university and who studied Business Admin that cannot calculate propotion. I mean he can't even evaluate something as simple as 'Data interpretation' type maths. I had more than a herculean task putting him through. . . Yet I didn't succeed. He works for one of them Multinational servicing companies (not Schlurm though). How could he have passed any test? Isn't he 'qualified' by the CGPA criteria (at least that's a good 2'1)

I can also tell you about the best student ever in Unilag's engineering faculty (that didn't transfer from the HND o) that wrote Chevrons test and didn't make it yet a 2'1 person from his dept got the job through recruitment malfeasance. Just like BA friend he too is qualified and a brillian chap but he knows he couldn't have got that job deviod of internal/external help.

Me list names for you? I'm not that petty besides if they stumble on the story on NL they'd know where it emanated from because a part of my moniker does give me away. If you think I'm lying that's really your business. Some others don't think that, atleast Jarus could vouch for my SHELL account and Rhino.5dn can for my Exxon one. Maybe you got a job with Chevron in 2009 or so without any help but that doesn't in anyway negate my story.

@all I never said that foreign degrees weren't respected or that 'no form' of meritocracy is involved in recruitment processes. I only stated unequivocally that the 'magomago' was rife and is slowly effacing the merit part especially at entry level. I don't know what @flexxyonline is on about 'talking about a defeatist attitude. Heck, I could even be working for Chevron now.

Concerning the recruitment process please don't make me laugh. In the previous PE recruitment prior to the 2012 one only 8 people got to the interview stage. Because they were so few they exchanged contacts with themselves and promised to inform the others should any of them be called. None of them were. Even though some left the UK and US to attend the interview. About last years own, LOL ( I have to LOL in between) they short-listed people for the initial Dragnet test and responded quite abrubtly in selecting those that were to partake in the skilltest phase. There was a veeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyyy long wait before folks were invited for the interview stage and do you know why? Its because the questions leaked. Apparently one big man gave the questions to his olodo son who in turn brought it to people that could solve it for him. One thing led to another and so most people had it and did so well that Chevron didn't knwo what to do. I know a boy whose dad just retired from there ( a Geophysicist) that also got a job via the 'earth scientist' option. By the same man-know-man parole. Keep your defeatist/ guilty conscience talk to yourself.

Working for Exxon or SHELL and co won't help them make the billions of dollars they currently make( they we're making it without you and still would after they don't employ you) so its not like your half class or whatever thrills them. Some that were privileged to have joined the companies earlier on could even do that with a lesser degree. One of my best friends father graduated with a 2'2 but he works with Exxon. Why won't he feel that 'anybody' too can work there? But if he is to pick between me and his son (assuming us both have a first class degree with a foreign degree Msc) you know who he'd select. That's the connection thingy at work. Period.

I understand where you are coming from and the young lads success story,kudos to him. Here's my point: for every one of your guy(s) story there are about 3 from the otherside of the divide. That's where I'm getting at. For example, you talked about a 2012 recruitment in SHELL. It so happens that I know about 4 people that participated in that recruitment. 2 of them are still waiting to resume after having done their medicals (they both graduated with first class engineering degrees).For the sake of discretion/common sense I would've typed a ladies name that currently works with SHELL that served with them and was retained. During the interview process for the job her contact asked her to send him her SRD number. When it was time for her to make a presentation and answer question from the assessment day exercise she was excused. I mean she didn't do a darn thing but today she works there. I also know or rather I heard of another guy that has been waiting to resume since 2011 (after doing his medicals too). But here is the real poser- why keep all these top engineers: scrutinized and approved by your process on a waiting list only to commence another recruitment process for another year? Does it in anyway infer that their positions have been given out?

Also you talked about his(your lads) stint with IPS, working for Oando etc. I remember clearly stating that some form of experience pertinent to the applied job also does help. I didnt say the whole merit thingy has been done away with, far from it! The niggling issue (I dare say) is that the meritorious recruitment has seriously waned.

At a more experienced stage the process is quite better but I can assure you at the entry point its worse off. Albeit I believe that Chevron has the least recruitment malfeasance, the magomago is still there. Their facilities recruitment was good but what became of their Petroleum engineering one? After the whole recruitment process they still gave the job to their staff on contract.I have stories about Addax too but they(all the IOC's) are better than AGIP. Those ones won't even advertise sef yet they'd be recruiting people every year. Risible.

I can relate with the OP fulltime. The situation has seriously waned from Jarus time to now. I can say that because I'm from the latter era (most likely where the OP is coming from). To be fair, the MNC's still favour the foreign degrees but like Ajanlekoko and others have said the white collar job openings seem to have wizened over time even abroad.

Nepotism and cronism is still the order of the day (especially in the IOC's). These lot favour folks that have had some experience with them- either as an intern or as a contract staff. I experienced it with Exxon. After passing the Dragnet and skilltest phase(s) we where interviewed. In that time span I had a friend that served with them and was also retained as a contract staff that wrote the same tests. He didn't pass the skilltest (I know this because he confided in me and besides he's an intelligent lad that graduated with a first class degree in engineering from a Nigerian university) but his boss told him to relax that he'd contact the HR to see what he could do. Well, to cut a very long story short he got the job and has been chilling there ever since. The caveat here is that atleast the guy is pretty smart but the reality on ground is that he wouldn't have secured the job bereft of his bosses help. Its even noteworthy to add here that 3 others like himself (that served there too and were retained) got the same job. We just accepted it and moved on.

PS: the likes of SPDC, ADDAX have corroborating stories as such. Maybe in 2004-2008 it wasn't like that. But from 2009-till date. People experienced it. It gets easier after one has garnered some experience though. But its safer to know the Petroleum minister, VP, C-in-C and the likes. Its safest to know God. *wink wink*

I just read where a 'fellow christian' claimed that another is 'hiding under the veil of scriptures'. This is indeed exasperating. What should be his defence? His emotions or logic?

There has always been an order of doing things in the house of God-devoid of self aggrandizment and furtherance of personal tenets. I understand that two well meaning christians having a dispute on a biblical issue can exchange emails or phone numbers so that the issue can be treated away from 'unbelievers' and so that the right order would be adhered to. All this hypocrisy in the name of cleaning the house of God has to stop. Did God tell you to clean his house for him? Certainly not!

I can imagine the message that frosbel and goshen360 have passed across to logicboy and co. The impetus to even pat yourselves on the back whilst the atheists egg you on is even more mind boggling. Remember that any decision (no matter how worthy it appears) that is detrimental to the body of christ or that sways an unbeliever further would be held more accountable to the executer! It was mr "perfect" Judas isi Carrot that suggested that the money be sold and given to the poor. The bible expressly stated that he didn't say so because he loved the poor but instead wanted the money to be in his account so that he could steal the money.

There was quality in the starting eleven especially playing against Blackburn at home, but there was no sense of urgency, no penetration especially in the first half, i am still speechless about Gervinho and Giroud with the latter being more disappointing.

This is one game we should have killed off in the first half, but the players were definitely not on the same page with the fans, there was no motivation to win and we paid the ultimate price.

Very very disappointing, but its part of being a Gooner, Never the less i am still very optimistic about our chances against Bayern in 2 legs.

You can sheepishly "support the national assembly" whole-heartedly on the issue but what is wrong is wrong. A spade is indeed a spade and not a big spoon.

If Arsenal make it to the top four, it would "only" be because the subsequent three aren't any better. Newcastle seem to have lost steam this year (heavily depleted by injuries), Liverpool are just out of it with their Swansean tactics and Tottenham seem to be the only reasonable competition. My problem here is that the Tottenham squad looks somewhat deeper than Arsenals current ensemble and with captain Verms indifferent performances this year i fear the worst.

I don't know how some people cannot see that inserting that CL clause into the contracts already portends the fear of not qualifying for the CL as the seasons roll by. Don't get me wrong, i do support it as i feel it would act as a motivation to play hard and grind out results but should the lads just take some stick without their manager (the cause of the whole problem) taking some for them? for example, why cant they also insert a clause in monsieur's contract that if buys another french player that fails to perform (e.g squillaci) then he would pay the players salary from his pocket till he sells him off?
