EducationRe: Lagos Budgets N1bn For Schools’ Renovation by mbhs139(m): 1:07pm On Oct 24, 2015
Fynestboi:
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday announced that his administration had earmarked over N1bn for the renovation and supply of furniture and education materials across all secondary schools in the state.

The statement said that the state government would also employ 1,300 teachers to teach in primary schools in the state.
This is a good one coming from the Lagos State Government. It is a good one because renovating schools and providing furniture and education materials, by and large, will improve student's learning. Kudos that more teachers are also going to be recruited into the State's schools.

However, there's this concept, school climate, which I want the Government to look into. It is an an evidence-based strategy that supports students, school personnel, parents/guardians and community members learning and working together to promote pro-social education.

Done well, these efforts will result in even safer, more supportive, engaging, helpfully challenging and harmonious schools.

A positive school climate, just like the State Government is trying to provide, improves student achievement and gives them a sense of belonging. Government's present efforts are part of the important factors in a positive school climate which are significant mediators of learning: empowerment, authentic, engagement, self-efficacy, and motivation. It is a strategy that will pay off, long term, for the youth, faculty and schools, with stronger student achievement within a productive and safe learning environment, with a good return on investment of both human and financial resources.

It is this our so called leaders that are always fanning the emblem of discord, and we, gullible Nigerians, are the ones giving them the fertile ground for their stupidity to thrive on.

I don't want to believe Mr Deputy Sen. President is talking about the June 12 election. Otherwise, I would say his stupidity, as an elder statesman in his own right, is raise to power 100.

If you are a student of power, you will agree with me that he's only trying to play on our emotions and intelligence with his reference to the annulled election, and even the civil war. Nigeria has moved on.

It is our President that is too timid.
Do you call a President timid simply because he called his interviewer to order? Do you cut-in while the President of a sovereign state like Nigeria is speaking? Do you allow your interviewer to overwhelm you, as a President and a former Army General? Is it not within your right to ask him to allow you make your point so that you're not quoted out of context and spending more and more energy trying to clarify what you said earlier? Is that what you call 'timid'? Aren't you glad you have a President who refuse to be intimidated by an ordinary journalist, unlike before? on chibok girls he said he will negotiate as long as d girls are well and alive.

On sharia law, he said he cannot change nigeria constitution to make sharia law a national law.

On d issue of his dictorship in d 80s, he said he will apologize for any proven wrong doing. That he is president today because many nigerians approve of his leadership in d 80s.

So op, what were u looking for that u didnt see?
Honestly, I just wonder how some people's response get liked on this forum. As a Buhari supporter, there was already goose pimples all over me before I went through the video interview only to find all their rubbish claim to be false.

As a matter of fact, I thought PMB will 'fall my hand' when he was asked about the Sharia law, I mean the stoning of women and cutting of hand, and I think he answered that question perfectly well like any other person in a country like Nigeria will do.

Now, I know that some people on this platform are truly wailers, wailing for nothing.

You know, I thought I was going to see something horrible about the President, only for me to watch the video twice and ... In fact, I will score him 75%, that's an A I suppose.

GEJ should have asked what role Edwin Clark played when he was kept as a plaything of Turai. The answer would have helped him know who his friends were. Clark only surfaced when it was time to chop and he arrogated to himself the tag "father of the president".

To even imagine that this baba threatened fire and brimstone if GEJ failed at the polls. But I don't blame him....GEJ was there for the taking.

Somebody that could make FFK his spokesman after all he regaled Nigerians with about GEJ deserves to be deceived I guess.

GEJ was too naive and 'nice' for his own good. He's not a politician, even Alamieseigha described him as unambitious. He was an accident on our political scene.

You can't be sure about the bold part. Even though there's a rule that says tombs shouldn't be more than six feet, it is not as if you can't do as you wish, you know, defying the order.

I have a read in a book, "Where There's A Will", where the deceased wrote in her Will that she should be buried at the back of her Cardilac, in her wedding gown with a very expensive Champagne. So, you can imagine how the grave that will contain a Cardilac will be like.

I even read, in the said book, that after she was buried, they had to dug her up again because someone reminded them that they didn't include her driver's license.

This was her wish, and it was carried out to the later. Otherwise, those left behind will not benefit from her estate.

In 1966, the first coup was led by: Kaduna Nzeogwu (29) and countered by Murtala Mohammed (28), Theophilus Danjuma (28),Babangida (25), Nanven Garba (23), Sani Abacha(23), Shehu Musa Yaradua (23), and brought into power Gowon (32), Ojukwu (33), Obasanjo (29),Buhari (24).

Most of the military administrators who governed the states under the successive military regimes, most of whom are governors now, were under 30years.
The brief democratic dispensation which interjected the military interregnums also saw the house of Representatives in particular populated by majority of members under 30 years as well as some senators.

Under 30s were also not in short supply with appointments, we have examples of MT Mbu who became foreign affairs minister at 23 and Pat Utomi who became a presidential adviser at 27 and so on and so forth.

Why is it that this age bracket is today barred by law from even aspiring to certain political offices?

Why is it that this age bracket is today incapacitated, unwilling, unable and incapable of asking questions?

Simple, because they are still busy shouting "Up Chelsea" every where.

On a more serious note, the value system as at then is quite different from the value system of today's youths. In addition, you can't take away the effect of acculturation- everyone just want to make money through whatever means, and not about national development. Just make it! Forget how.

Do u remember some governors went round and said it was not constitutional?do u know why the states were in debts despite the huge money the FG released to them? Because they embarked on useless projects which were over inflated and were not of economic importance to people of their states.for instance jigawa is building an airport, tell me what jigawa needs an airport when it is less than 1hr to kano? Why does osun need a chopper to fly aregbe around? Despite the huge money collected by oshoimole he couldn't do more than airport road in benin.this is the case of most of the governors. Do u know that this bail out funds some used it to buy vehicles for security personel as in the case of adamawa and yobe? Do u know that the FG releases enough to cover recurrent expenditure and that we shoild not have found ourselves in this position in the first place? When Jonathan left behindd 30b dollars. The reason j.p Morgan and Barclays are suspending sales in our bonds is because of lack of economic policy. This man has been ruling this country alone since may 29th without any policy on economy, health, education, please is this right? Investors are scared and pulling out funds from the economy on daily basis, inemployment is rising and you are blaming Jonathan? Wake up, if u see bad thing condemn am.
see all these arm chair economist...

Well, I heard the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in an interview, saying the country can not change its policy simply because of an index. That's not going to be possible, and I agree with him on that. If you guys know the conditions these modern slave trade people are giving the country, you will ask them to go to hell.

By the way, bond this, bond that, they are not the real investors in an economy! They are what they are truly called- Port Folio Investors, Port Folio.

Do you know what a portfolio is...? That is, you bring your investment in a portfolio and you also leave with your profit in your port folio at the slightest provocation. Though, you may argue that they provide the finance for the real investors, fine, but then, they are what they are- Port folio, just like port folio contractors.

In any case, I still think the country should not be hounded into taking hasty economic decision simply because we are being shoved off some lousy index- No!

Obama mismanaged the war by pulling out too early. His support for opposition against Syria's Assad is what led to the creation and bolstering of the dreaded ISIS.
Sometimes i wonder how a naiive community organizer with no experience in governance and no foreign policy credentials other than being a "superstar" could be made president of a strategic country like the US.
But that event was wrong in itself. It was a smoke screen, you know. Wouldn't know the truth or otherwise of the story but several reports and documentary have shown that the 9/11 attack was a covert operation by the American to enter Iraq. As a matter of fact, video footage that I have watched online showed that the WTC building was already charged with dynamites before the attack.

When the U.N. was established, its founders did not in the least think that there would always be unanimity. The mission of the organization is to seek and reach compromises, and its strength comes from taking different views and opinions into consideration. Decisions debated within the U.N. are either taken as resolutions or not. As diplomats say, they either pass or do not pass.

Whatever actions any state might take bypassing this procedure are illegitimate. They run counter to the charter and defy international law. We all know that after the end of the Cold War — everyone is aware of that — a single center of domination emerged in the world, and then those who found themselves at the top of the pyramid were tempted to think that if they were strong and exceptional, they knew better and they did not have to reckon with the U.N., which, instead of [acting to] automatically authorize and legitimize the necessary decisions, often creates obstacles or, in other words, stands in the way.

We would get a world dominated by selfishness rather than collective work, a world increasingly characterized by dictate rather than equality. There would be less of a chain of democracy and freedom, and that would be a world where true independent states would be replaced by an ever-growing number of de facto protectorates and externally controlled territories.
There are quite a lot of quotes I want to highlight but for time because I'm about leaving the office.
