It is very possible just like some professed love dies after marriage, for example, if the one who doesn't love first come to discover potentials and added quality, in such cases the bond can be very strong, the attraction has to be there but sometimes, we are deceived by our sense of judgment, environment, pair pressure and presumptions |

If you look carefully, you will discover that, very few of the people contesting for one seat or the other has a blue print yet, they hope that they will win. We have a long way to go. Travel › Re: Torn Passport: Egypt Air Admits Error, To Pay Compensation by Mclick(m): 4:42pm On Sep 25, 2014 |
Omooba77: ABUJA—The management of Egypt Air, which was accused of maltreatment and wrongful deportation of a Nigerian medical student, Joshua Kunle Abdul-Azeez, studying in Ukraine and tearing his Nigerian international passport has admitted making a mistake and offered to compensate the student. This followed an intervention by the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora. Having received a complaint filed against Egypt Air, the committee, led by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa yesterday met with representatives of the Airline on circumstances surrounding the alleged negligence, harassment and deportation of the complainant back to Nigeria aboard EgyptAir. It will be recalled that Saturday Vanguard had exclusively reported how Mr Abdulazeez was detained two Saturdays ago, starved for four days and his passport torn to shreds. According to Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa (APC, Lagos), “the error of not ascertaining the final destination of the complainant from his ticket was that of Egypt Air.’’ ‘’If you are going to London for instance, your final destination must be known before your visa is approved or before air ticket would be accepted by airline operators,’’ she said. She added that ‘’ours is that, once a Nigerian is ill-treated anywhere in the world, we must make sure that justice is done’’. Putting the issues in perspective, legal representative of Egypt Air, Robert Clarke (SAN), told the Committee that though the incident of maltreatment and harassment as reported did not occur while the complainant was still in the physical custody of Egypt Air, the issue of negligence arising from wrong routing of his destination in the ticket was a mistake his clients cannot deny. He said, ‘’although, my clients made a mistake when his ticket was being routed which had to do with the exchange between Egypt Air and a Turkish airline, however, the boy partly caused the problem for himself when he entered a Turkish airline that was not going to Kiev. He tried to board a plane that was going to Moldova, that was when it was discovered that he did not have a visa to that destination’’. ‘’The truth is that, we made a mistake on his ticket; that much we are ready to admit and make compensation as appropriate. We wronged the boy. We were negligent and he has suffered tremendous damage for which we are ready to own up and address accordingly. I feel for the young man for having suffered on the account of our mistake of not routing his ticket to his final destination, which was Kiev’’, he said. He also hinted that the matter has assumed a legal dimension following a notice of service by some lawyers on behalf of the boy, claiming damages in huge sum of money. ‘’Two weeks ago, some lawyers wrote to the airline claiming a huge sum of money in damages, so as we speak now, the matter has gone beyond the realm of this Committee to a Federal High Court according to the letter we got’’, he explained. Joshua Abdul-Azeez, 17 was on his way to Kiev, the Ukrainian capital when his passport was seized and torn by Immigration officials at the Istanbul Airport in Turkey for not possessing a visa to his preferred destination, Moldova. However, in his petition to the House Committee on Diaspora, he alleged that his ordeal was caused by the lack of professionalism on the part of Egypt Air which handled his travel arrangements from Nigeria. The Committee however urged the Airline to reach an amicable settlement with the young man and take necessary measures to avoid future occurrences.

Family › Re: Teaching Our Children The Sense Of Gratitude. by Mclick(m): 9:25am On Sep 25, 2014 |
greatgod2012: Hello lovely Nairalanders. I'm gradually resuming back to NL after my unofficial vacation. I want us to learn from one another as regards what affects every family, which is...............training of our children, whether biological, adopted or live-ins(i mean relative kids who are living with us temporarily, for one reason or the other), therefore, i will be coming up mostly on threads that have to do with child/ren upbringing and today, we want to start with "teaching our children to always be appreciative, no matter how small or little the favour shown by whoever, be it parents, relatives, friends, visitors, employees/employers, or even strangers.
First, what is gratitude? Gratitude is the appreciation for a favour given or shown to someone. It is the act of thankfulness. It is being grateful for favour or kindness.
How can we show gratitude?
Personally, the best way to show appreciation is by saying it out............by saying thank you each and everytime a kind of favour is given or shown to someone, without saying it out, the person doing the favour may think his/her favour/kindness is not appreciated, so, the best way to let the person know that you appreciate is by telling the person that you appreciate his good gesture towards you. Another way is by leading as example, what you don't have, you can't give, if you're the type that's always grateful, they will always copy you. For example, when any of my kids do something nice, i thank them. It means you're indirectly training them to be likewise. Why showing appreciation? A yoruba adage says "eni to ba dupe ore ana, a ri emii gba" i.e if you say thank you for a kindness, it is an avenue for you to get another one". However, personally, the reason for being appreciative is not basically to get another one but to show that YOU ARE WELL AND PROPERLY BROUGTH UP. I use to say this, there is no bad elder, it is a bad child that grows to become bad adult, if one does not know how to say thank you for a good deed, then such should not complain when wickedness is shown to him. If somene can go out of his way to assist in one way or the other and the mouth seems to be too heavy to utter just "thank you, such a person should not use the same heavy mouth to complain when a prospective helper refuses to help. This is in support of yoruba adage that says......."eni ti a ba se oore fun, ti ko ba dupe, ti a ba se ika fun, ko ma binu".
When do you start teaching your kids the sense of gratitude?
As early as possible, teaching our kids to be appreciative should start from when they are toddlers, so that they will get used to it. Infact, all my children's first words are...."tan tu" (thank you). They are so used to it now that it makes people , almost everyone that come across them to fall in love with them instantly. They are taught to say "thank you Lord" first thing in the morning, and that also is already part of them that no one can take away from them. Saying thank you by kids make people to conclude that, such kid is well-mannered, even though as kids, they have their flaws, but the sense of gratitude they possess has so much covered their other areas of weakness to the people outside.
How do you instill sense of gratitude into your kids? Very simple; instist that they say thank you for whatever you do for them at home, even though, it is our duty to take care of our kids, but it's also their right to appreciate it.
Let us learn from one another, if there is any other point to add or modify, please, let's do and learn from one another. May God help us all parents. inculcating sense of gratitude in kids good, not just only that, a lot of parent now, first of all dont have time for and some have the time are fond of overlooking certain traits in their ward with the excuse that they will stop those character when they grow up, or in the name of exposure/imbibing western life style, these are the reason for high moral decadence in our society today. Some of them when they grow up with so much opportunity available for them to make something out of their life, they can't until the little achievement of the said parent is depleted |

okpanachil: My brother the case of Kogi is pathetic.Teachers in the last 2years have probably spent more time on strike than in schools, infrastructure is a total mess. There is just one central road in the whole of lokoja the state capital, that which runs from nataco to barracks, the same road is ridden with potholes that can conveniently be occupied by the diameter of a car tyre.Every now and then we see a couple of artisans mending and patching the roads,in some cases only cement and sand is used as if it was some wall plastering job.Whenever it rains the roads are flooded becuase there are no drainages infact some routes become impassable.
Infrastrucutures are dilapidated, the only govt library in d capital is more like an abandoned musuem as books and shelves have become artifacts, how can students be encouraged to read?
Infact my submission on kogi is that there is no Government presence because if the state capital can be that abandoned then forget the LGs. @okpanachil. ronald4lif: This thread is uncalled for, if you follow Eze's thread carefully you will realise that majority of the guys aren't complaining of spending on their women but rather demands that women shouldn't reject getting laid provided a guy sorts her or some of her bills. And as per your post I don't know your gender but if it turns out that you are a lady then it's disheartening to openly admits that ladies shouldn't indulge in sex if their guys doesn't spend on them. Just a quick reminder of what the term prostitute means "A prostitute is a sex worker who willingly engages in sexual encounters for monetary or material gains". Am I right to conclude that (judging by your logic) you and every other girl out there who only agrees to get laid by her boyfriend/man only when she gets financial favours from him is a prostitute, or in subtle phrase a potential prostitute? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks ronald4lif, it simple prostitution awkward thinking, so many of have married and divorce many time before they actually say the get married. These are things Nigeria can manufacture, if we are serious enough, with consistency policies and the willingness of the government for development. When Nigeria start depending less on other nations, then we become truely independent and stop the blame game on the US. Stop corruption, revamp the education system to become results oriented. Then we shall truely develop. |

Romance › Re: On Nigerian Women And (lack Of) Future Ambition by Mclick(m): 9:19am On Sep 23, 2014 |
safarigirl: If you're one who has stayed within the female hostel of any Nigerian University, you'll find that most of it's occupants share similar hopes and dreams- and no, it's not to excel in their chosen career paths.
One of the lecturers in my school aptly described women as 'a waste of education'...no, it wasn't an insult, it was just stating the obvious. You find a woman who has hustled through primary, secondary and University education. One who looked set to be a force to reckon with in the world of business or law or medicine, I mean a female with straight A's and you think Nigerian women may be getting things right, only to follow her back to her hostel and hear these heart-breaking words:
"Omo, after school na to find husband marry remain."
In the real sense of the word this is translated to:
"After school, I'll fling my degee inside one iron box in my dad's storeroom, find a perfect mugu that will put a ring on my finger, buy me a car, set up a boutique/beauty saloon for me and all I have to do to get this is spread my legs for him and push out little people with his DNA"
Nigerian women view marriage the same way hustling Nigerian men view the US Green Card- an avenue to escape life's troubles. So in the same way you find 23 year old Nigerian men marrying 56 year old American women, you find young, promising women relegated to some man's priority list.
I don't think most Nigerian women realise that nobody wants to get attached to a leech. If you allow some Nigerian women, they would even want their husbands to carry the babies and birth them as well. And when you ask why they don't want to build wealth with a man, you hear:
"I've already suffered in my father's house. I don't want to continue suffering in my husband's house"
Now unless you're getting married to a no-good leech like yourself, there is no reason why building wealth with a man should be termed 'suffering'
Even on Sun Newspaper's 'Beauty Of The Week' it's the same thing.
Future Ambition: Getting Married And Having Kids
If you think God put you on this earth to make a liability of yourself, you need to think again. There is more to life than being someone's baby mama. There is a purpose for getting an education that lies beyond being able to speak good english whenever you and your man attend social functions
Nigerian women need to sit down and re-evaluate their lives. God sent you to assist a man, not to add to his problems. Men appreciate women who can think for themselves, who want to contribute to the family (and I don't mean churning out kids). There is nothing more endearing than a smart woman who views men as companions rather than money bags.
Don't waste the education your parents worked so hard to provide for you. Break the stereotype, Nigerian women should be more than gold-digging leeches. If the likes of Oby Ezekwesili, Joke Silva, NOI can be successful career women as well as wives and mothers, then we all need to dust up our certificates and CVs and have proper future ambitions.
God Bless You...and don't take this the wrong way safarigirl enh, your head dey their, how many of them girls will read this. How many I have seen looking for money bag, they see getting married to a man as a way to escape poverty and source of constant income. In fact they dont date men with potential, vision and future, but already made, let me stop. There are still young men looking for women they can respect but, how many of them yet, will have so many of them. Safarigirl spread it. good am |

bushdoc9919: I am of two minds about this.
On the one hand, even at my age, I find a movie filled with too much rule 34 like things uncomfortable.(Life is not all about following rule 34 to the letter).
On the other hand, movies are supposed to be a reflection of real life. And in real life, people do dirty things.
Oh well, if you do not want to watch it...switch the channel. Or set up a film making corporation that would make decent but imaginative films and series. I think the op is trying to appeal for a clear border line or distinction btw home and indecency movies, for the sake of kids and our collective safety. Come to think of it, if all movie are infused with indecency, there won't be any one for the kids to watch and learn moral lessons |
