ceaser: This clamp meter keeps resurfacing as a reoccurring decimal amongst things I should have, having been able to get thru most applications I encountered with the use of the regular voltmeter.
Clamp either the positive or negative terminal of the battery cable and turn on the inverter with no load connected to it. You can then be able to see the no load current drawn by it. A wattmeter can only check the wattage of devices connected to it.
remmy9: I ply this route every Monday morning but I'm presently on my way(road) to my base in surulere. I no wan hear say Dem shoot bird mama fly. God should keep us from danger. May their souls rest in peace.
Buy yourself a life jacket if the boat you board don't have one. My friend said people were laughing at him for putting a seat belt because he was at the back of a bus travelling for an 8 hour journey. People don't take safety serious in this country.
What happens to giving out life jacket to passengers? For the life of me, I won't enter a boat without one. If they don't have I just don't board. If it is an area I use frequently I'd buy myself one. Most people in this country called Nigeria play with people's lives and safety. My condolences to the people who lost their lives to this tragedy. I hope victim's family get to sue the boat company for negligence.
ojeysky: Got back home and it's still the same thing, no charge from PV! Wew, strange that a CC with over 120v still cannot start-up. My people any idea on what else I should look into, could this be a faulty panel or a problem with the connection itself?
Thanks PS: I left the battery at 23v now it has discharged to 22.5v which means even with the high rays of sunlight it didn't pick-up at anytime while I was away!
How about emailing the makers/sellers your experiences so far? Most MPPT should be able to pick up at 80v and above. Though yours may be different, that is why you may need to tell the sellers your experience. Those with similar machine can chip in too. Well done
I posted an advert that I want to sell power bank on OLX. This guy called me as a buyer, we met inside University of Ibadan. He made a transfer, claimed he's on his way to church and also traveling but decided to branch to collect the product. During our brief conversation, he mentioned he's a distance learning student of the same school (UI), Post graduate student in department of Social work. Out of Goodwill, I gave him the power bank, didn't wanna delay him for church service and with the hope that network problem could be reason why am yet to receive the alert at that time. But, till now, am yet to receive the alert. I tried His number and it's no longer going through. That's his picture. I snapped it without him knowing during the time we were both waiting for alert and he was using that opportunity to test the power bank.
Everyone should note his face and spread it far and wide. This guy is just too cheap coz I wonder why he has to damage his image just to get ordinary power bank worth of 9k...
Have you gotten the supposedly 9k he sent? Taking his picture was a smart move. But next time do not release your property without getting the alert (via bank app) that the money is in your account. No matter the story, never release your item.
duwdu: Ah, sorry if I wasn't clear [and I've had to catch my breath, hence this delayed response]. I used a thicker gauge wire (50mmsq) instead of the recommended 38mmsq.
Edited: The larger wire called for me to have to work through the somewhat precise space in the machine meant for a smaller-size wire. In the process, my "fat" hands pushed other things in the way of the fan.
You always see these statements when a victim of rape speaks out:
Why did she have to wait for this long?
She's doing it now for money.
This incident happened 100 years ago, why did she bring it up now?
She's just trying to destroy the man.
She certainly seduced the man.
And so many other BS.
TO ME, it DOES NOT MATTER the time the victim chose to speak up. There is this psychological issue of victims often trying to appease the perpetrators of crime such as rape. I applaud the young lady for speaking up.
Funny enough, this is not the first time this man has been accused of rape. Is he the only pastor in Nigeria with money? Or is he the only male pastor? Why must it always be him? I tire.
What I saw was that, in the process of installing the batteries' +ve lead into the inverter, I had inadvertently worked a clear acrylic flap adorning the top of the fan housing, INTO the fan housing, thereby obstructing the normal movement/rotation of the fan! By 8am, I had corrected the issue and the F01 fault was cleared. The PIP-5048GK has been flawless ever since. (Screenshot attached.)
Morals of the story:
My brethren, please know what you're doing while DIY'ing. The specs for some of our gadgets are precision based, even if the manufacturer has not specifically stated so. In this my specific case, the wire girth specified 38mmsq. I crimped the 50mmsq cables I had at hand and sort of worked them in. After all, one wire gauge up will be even better for carrying current, right? Well, I applied this teaching in a half educated manner and paid with aggravation.
Sorry for the stress. Please I did not understand some of the points you made above. Was it as a result of using a higher guage wire that the fan was obstructed? Thank you.
landmark86: What I foreseen about this matter/issue
1. Pastor Biodun Fatoyibo will overcome these 2. Timi Dakolo music career will be killed through this matter. 3. There will later be a marital problem within Dakolo's family that will almost lead to divorce. 4. Bisola Dakolo will later seek for forgiveness from God & Fatoyibo.
So because the accused rapist is a so called man of God he can't be brought to justice for a crime he is said to have committed? So the lady cannot say how it is simply because the accused is a pastor? Damn, people like you make it super difficult for rape victims to speak up. If the man is innocent, let the court decide that
cute75: So I met him today to ask him about this question.... He said I should ask you if u have practically tried it...That you are talking theorically....though they are threshold where ur theories are true....But science has elvovle and it can be maneuvered. Big English though.. In my own opinion I believe anything is possible... Why? I once forgot to put off my frigde(medium deep freezer) which was connected to my 5000va stabilizer.....and my inverter which is 12v/1.2kva picked both of them...and was working fine for about 30seconds....I had to quickly turn them off. So I believe anything is possible... And theories can also be changed or maneuvered.(my opinion though)
In this case, theory is same with practical. About your 1.2kva inverter handling a 5kva stabiliser is simple to explain. The 5kva inverter load may just be 10% of the rated 5kva since it's a medium deep freezer which should be about 400w. The stabilizer is not handling the full capacity of 5kva. Also a 1kva inverter can sometimes handle two times its rated capacity for short duration, say for not more than 60 seconds. It is called the surge or instantaneous power rating of the inverter. So, my friend, what you observed is electrically impossible. And I've got some experience on how some of these things work. Thank you.
survemeka: Good to know you don't bandy the APC or PDP stuff. My question is, what can a responsible man do with infrastructural constraints from FG? If you were in his shoes what action plan or blueprint would you adopt to remedy the situation?
I'd curtail my expenses. Nigerian leaders all run a government of excesses and "compensation" What does a governor do with over 250 special advisers for crying out loud? Or the usual 30-vehicle entourage? Or the crazy allowances they constantly dole out to their cronies and to themselves? If there is not enough money to run a state, is it best to squander the little on excesses and gallivanting the globe under the guise of "seeking for investors" or other fimsy excuses? These guys are super wasteful. I tell my friends that are in government same to their face.
survemeka: Haters get your facts correctly, he only honoured an invitation by CAF as Enyimba FC state Governor. Google it!
No haters, the man simply do not know what governance is all about. I'm not even into the PDP or APC bullsh!t that people often bandy about here. He is simply not doing his job he was elected to do. If there is a state of emergency repair or meeting that he was invited to in part of his state, the possibility of turning it down while claiming to be "busy" is there.
Many of our leaders behave this way simply because the system allows irresponsible people to lead. It is a pity.
ojeysky: Sorry I think I may not have asked my question correctly, is an SPD same thing as circuit breaker?
No, an SPD is a surge protective device. It prevents surge or instantaneous current either as a result of fault, thunderstorm, etc from damaging our equipment.
The calculation is just for the setup I described. You can always interpolate with your own specific setup data to get what you require. I hope this helps.
ojeysky: Yes and the distance is about 12 meters. Please kindly also recommend if I should get a circuit breaker and the specification. Fyi I already got an SPD. Thanks
OK. I'd suggest you use a cable up to 10mm, just buy the flexible copper type mostly used by welders.
The Voc determines the minimum voltage rating of the disconnect switch: for a 14 series 36v PV system the breaker disconnect voltage will be 14 × 36 V = 504V, so a 600V dc breaker will do.
As per the current, if Isc of each panel is 8.5A as they are in series the maximum current obtainable is 8.5A, you'd multiply this by 125% which gives 10.625A which you can round to the nearest standard current size of 16A. So you'd require a 600V 16A dc breaker for this configuration.
The cable size you are asking of is it for the connection of the PVs to the solar charge controller? If yes, what's the distance between the PV and the charge controller?
cute75: My inverter is Locally made....its a 12v/1.2kva inverter....it was tweak to carry my fridge if need be....I can set the output voltage....I notice that when the voltage was at 220volt my TV was consuming 55watts....Well my TV voltage rating is 100-230volts and so are all my appliances... so I reduced the voltage to 160v it dropped to 28watts, same with my home theatre....light bulbs 3watts from 9watts and still Bright...Its was made to be very rugged. Lastly, I can set the maximum output power: What I mean is that if I set it at 100watt, and the load crosses the 100watts the inverter automatically trips off and starts beeping...It also display the load in watts u are consuming....Variety they say is the spice of life
Electric power P = IV where I = current and V= Voltage.
If you reduce the voltage, there is a corresponding rise in current to maintain same power.
Conversely, if you increase the voltage there is a corresponding drop in current; a principle that allows the use of small diameter wires to transmit voltages over vast distances with less drop in power.
How did this inverter circumvent this basic electric principle?
elvisdaniels: Dont mind that idiot that branded the guy a drug dealer , I was housed by the guys friend when I was studying in Malaysia , so I know him too well , He says reloads of all networks in Malaysia , since some people don’t have visa they are scared of going downstairs to pay load or do some bills payments . They guys does that and takes his commission , he’s known by over a thousand Nigerians all through cheras area so he makes money , he had to diversify his business and went into car rentals , he gets cars from the locals on a cheaper price and rent to Africans on a higher price and makes twice the profit of what he paid the locals , were talking of cars from 2014 to 2019 all new and his good with Chinese and Malaysia’ns each car rental a day he makes from each car 10k naira or more after paying the car owner that loaned it out to him just for a day ooo I’m talking about one car he rents 10 a day we talking about 100k He’s not into drugs that guy suffered big time in Malaysia RIP to him anyway a total loss to the family
I always think people should know something before jumping to conclusions. He seems like a nice guy and Nigeria had just lost another one. Sadly, the police will just continue their business as usual with the culprits never getting caught.
I noticed that one pack performed better than the other pack. There was a voltage difference of about 2v between the packs. At a point one was reading 27v while the other 25v. I'll work on correcting this.
I also noticed that the lithium charges faster when compared to Gel or Lead acid batteries.
Interesting, the low resistance trait of lithium makes charging it faster than our conventional lead acid batteries. I think bottom balancing the two lithium pack may help with the voltage difference
