FamilyRe: Nigerian Parents And The "You Are Not Sleeping Here Tonight" Syndrome by menxer: 5:57pm On Mar 28, 2016
My mother instilled in us (my siblings) the habit of not staying out late without permission or reasonable excuse.

8pm was late; which was the closing time of the state Library then (our official excuse in case you happen to stay out) but using that excuse one must show what one learned or read. Hahahahaha

I would ever remember one night my elder Bros in his final year in university went for his department night out without informing anyone at home. We didn't know how to cover for him.

He came back around midnight, sneaked into bed. At about 4am mum was doing the checks again and there was this body on a bed that was previously empty.

we were woken by the thundering of cane on bare back.

Imagine being beaten to wakefulness from stupor.

Till date, as an independent adult, staying out late always rings alarm bell in my mind.

My father never laid his hand on any of us.

Mom, I miss you.

huh

I'm not at peace with this!

Pls let's stay away from GMOs.

We can do this on our own. What's $6m? It's an insult.
That's exactly my thoughts.

How can we benefit with the introduction of "suicide seeds" into our agriculture?

In the long run it will still make us dependent on BBG foundation for more seeds to grow our food, what kind of help is that?

I only wish our people can see beyond the $6m.

What is good for the goose is also good for the gander; if they set Tinubu free, why can't they set Saraki free?

The hypocrisy of APC members and it's hierarchy is nauseating.
This issue has been gone over several times and the fact still remains: it's not APC government that set Tinubu free "in error" and that case was closed and cannot be reopened according to our learned fellows in the house.

Besides If the CJ said Tinubu was freed in "error" must we repeat the same "error" with Saraki?

Come to think of it, is Saraki not an APC member and is being dealt with by APC government?

I thought u were going to write something sensible. U should stop making fool of yourself. Nigeria will have a President by 2019, but we don't know who. Besides Ur writing is juvenile, Ur criticism is not constructive. all those hardship stories are to be told to the average minded people. I knew, if PMB wins there will be a media war, PDP will want to tag him failure, and also people like u, instead of trying to be up to date, u are joining the wailers, it's a shame.
Way back 2008/09, If u check Google, The great recession, Economic meltdown, were among the most used sentences. There was foreclosure of Businesses, unemployment increased. And in the end America survived. They didn't come on social media to create threads like urs, They showed; that they had human capacity and character to surmount obstacles. I pity our youths, they lack creativity and resourcefulness. instead of seeking solutions, they are already campaigning for 2019, wanting Biafra, wanting back corruption. The big question is What has Buhari done wrongly?.
You know, "we" as adults were used to being bottle fed forex and PMB came, took the feeding bottles away and gave us spoons to eat Abakaliki rice, you reason na, is it fair? grin

When the government couldn't give them power for over 40 years, when the price of petrol kept soaring up...and you turned around to blame the victim? Who do you think you are deceiving? Only the two gullibles that gave you a 'like'
Your comment begs the question: who is the Government?

Is "he" the man from the moon? No!

We are the Government, and if government has so far failed in "its" responsibilities to do those things you mentioned, it means we have failed as a people.
PoliticsRe: The Economist-How To Make A Hard Currency Crisis Worse By Buhari by menxer: 8:13am On Mar 25, 2016
So the west and owners/publishers of the economist love Nigeria more than Nigerians?

The same people that ill-advised us not to complete Ajoakuta steel, that importing everything is better for us, not to save in those years of abundance are the same people advising us to devalue, how can that be in our best interest?

Our problem is we refuse(d) to think as a nation and want foreigners to do that for us.

Tough time calls for tough decisions, and PMB/CBN have done just that in the best interest of Nigeria.

Mynd44:
I am not sure about rice but as a result of tax and the butchers' associations, they have a rough estimate of how many individual animal is slaughtered each day, week, month and year.

So it is not so difficult to have a correct numver of the number of animals sold each day excluding the animals bought from individuals from outside the state and killed at home i.e. Someone going to Ibadan to buy animals for a wedding or naming ceremony can't be calculated but those killed and sold (in the abbatior are recorded) since taxes/levies are paid on each
You dey mind some bigots that can't see any thing good about Nigeria?

Even in my town, levies/taxes are paid on animals bought, which can be used to do the estimates.

I wonder what "statisticians" are needed again when the transaction details are duly kept by the butchers association and is just a simple addition of the figures therein?

We have lost sight of the real gist of this thread: the partnership between Lagos and Kebbi states.

Science/TechnologyRe: What Are Your Thoughts On Cyborg Technology. by menxer: 7:39pm On Mar 23, 2016
Once upon a time there was only pure spirit beings until an experiment to create man (a mixture of spirit, Astral, mental and physicality) was conceived, created and brought to life by the "Gods".

It won't be out of place for cyborg to be incorporated into the creation mix:

And Man said, Let us make cyborg in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth and the Internet of things."

God created man because He wanted to experience life in physicality, Man create cyborg because he wants to experience life in virtual reality/internet of things. grin

Man is an organic computerized machine with programmable codes (DNA) created by the "Gods", Cyborg is an inorganic computerized machine with programmable codes created by man grin

Though it is wrong for the school to have disciplined her to the extent where she had to be hospitalized, but it is obvious the girl is rude. For slapping the prefect, she is daring the school authority

For many of you critizing the school, I want to let you know that learning comes with discipline. Many students nowadays are over pampered by their parents and the first point of discipline becomes the school. It is this same parents that would complain if the girl start to fail in her academics. A girl that won't respect her teachers won't learn from them.
One carton of Orijin for you.

You just summarized why our standard of education is falling.

In those days that our standard of education is said to have been high, was there no discipline cum flogging of students?

I have forgotten all my teachers and lecturers in school except those hard core disciplinarians and what they stood for; their names still etched in memory ring bells.
EducationRe: Lagos Probes Pupil’s Floggings By Principal, Teachers by menxer: 8:57am On Mar 23, 2016
The victim complicated issues.
If she was ill why did she not stay away from participating in the work, only to use that as excuse when instructions were given?

How come she dared the Prefect and returned the slap as ill as she was?

She caused her problem.

the Principal over did it by "over flogging " the victim. But how many strokes of the cane amount to "over flogging"?

If the school can no longer instill discipline in students, why should we complain when our youths misbehave or act rude and by extension exhibit insubordination to constituted authority as adults?

I know you are not trying to shift the narrative. You are only practicing the standard Nigerian playbook of stupidity: Your evil justifies and rationalizes my evil.

The tragedy is that Nigerians hardly ever mobilize cultural alibis to defend what is good.

Mention any social or political or economic malaise, they will rootle the archives to find that it also happens elsewhere which, in their fevered brains, justifies, explains, rationalizes and cancels out the current issue.

Mention genocide and this category of foolish and irredeemable Nigerians will tell you that Hitler also did it.

You mention a particular politician who has just stolen, the idiotic Nigerian rushes out with : why haven't you mentioned this other one? Just like what this foolish poster just did.

i am beginning to suspect that CAN tried for 16 years to Christianize Nigeria and are afraid the Muslims would try the same thing.

it is a fact Nigeria is an Islam/Christian nation, CAN should look for a common ground with the Muslim counterpart and work towards inculcating the mindset of peace and harmony, and stop creating fear in the minds of the people.

Are we as Christians not commanded to love our neighbors as ourselves? irrespective if that neighbor is a Muslim?

Come to think of it, would this gender equality allow ladies to pay for and marry a man of their choice and not be on the waiting list of any man?

When a woman contested for Governorship in Taraba state, did she get 100% support and vote from the women, even taking the contest even to the courts?

in the civil service, what is the ratio of women to men employed?

why are they using rape and domestic violence to argue their case? even in America such crimes do happen, and won't stop because it's included in any gender equality bill.
as for a husband sharing his property to his wife, what is the function of a Will?
