Pipe dream

You still need approval to operate and bear arms, Mr We-Are-The-Law
It has been approved by the respective State House of Assemblies, giving power of arm control to their Governors. IGP is empowered by the ACT to designate authorizing and licensing powers to qualified persons. The Governors have been qualified by their State Laws.

What else?

Jakumo:
The essence of this flawed bid by Nigerian federal government spokesmen to regulate the varieties of personal weapons that would be carried by regional vigilante groups like the newly established Amotekun group in the south west, is that the federal government seeks to apply the laws that regulate CIVILIAN gun ownership, to the instance of statewide paramilitary groups whose role clearly falls within the realm of both military and law enforcement response tasking.

The quotation of statues relating to civilian gun ownership, by federal government spokespeople, is from a legal standpoint of ZERO relevance with respect to the arming of ANY state OR federal law enforcement arm, since the weaponry carried by service personnel, are determined in the context of the anticipated mission emphasis and deployment theater, of specific military units, politically-motivated, legally unsound, semi-official pronouncements aside.
Very good point...but check this out...

The Firearms Act consist of two parts, the Act itself and Firearms Regulation. The States have passed laws giving the Executives consent to arm their security corps in their respective states. This means the Governor, in his capacity as Executive-in Chief, the head of security, will apply to IGP for consent to act as a designee for the powers conferred on the IGP by part II of the Act. The IGP cannot turn down the Chief Security of the State. The Governor thus steps in as a firearm authorizing agent only for his state. The IGP is not able to deny licensing power to the Governors but he can negotiate for some other concessions.

I honestly think people just talk nonsense without use of discretion.

When IGP is addressing Northerners or Easterners he can remind them of the law and statutes of Firearms Act.

When he addresses Westerners on issues of law and statutory contracts we do not need a reminder, WE ARE THE LAW!

OP,
dont allow IGP to scare you with Firearms Act. We already identified the loophole in the Act, and we are exploiting the loophole to apply for license, period!

Politics › Re: Buhari Suspends Modibbo Kawu On ICPC's Recommendation by MetaPhysical: 10:21pm On Feb 14, 2020
kiyosaki1:
After several months of being investigated on allegations of corruption, the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Modibbo Kawu, has been suspended with immediate effect.

This is coming months after the anti-graft agency, ICPC, urged the federal government to suspend the Mr Kawu, and 32 other public officers/civil servants undergoing corruption trial at the time.

A source at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) confirmed that Mr Kawu was given the letter of suspension Thursday, pending the conclusion of investigations into the allegations against him.

Another source at the NBC confirmed that Armstrong Idachaba, the present director, Broadcast Monitoring, was handed a letter to proceed as the acting DG of NBC.

Also, sources at the ICPC confirmed that they have been told that Mr Kawu has been suspended until the conclusion of his trial.

He may be reinstated if he is cleared of the allegation.

Efforts to reach Mr Kawu on Friday were not successful. He did not return calls nor respond to a text message sent to him.

When contacted, Antia Ekanem, the spokesperson to the NBC, said she was not aware of the development. Also, Willie Bassey, the spokesperson to the SGF, said he was not aware of such suspension.

‘In the storm’s eye’

ICPC said it is prosecuting Mr Kawu for “using (his) position to confer corruption advantage.”

The Commission on May 2 arraigned Mr Kawu and two others, Dipo Onifade and Lucky Omoluwa, over alleged N2.5 billion fraud.

The trio, who are being prosecuted on 12-count charges, allegedly conspired with each other to use the position of Mr Kawu to confer a corrupt advantage on Mr Omoluwa, his friend and associate.

The allegations also roped in information minister, Lai Mohammed.

Mr Kawu allegedly asked Mr Mohammed to approve payment of N2.5 billion to Pinnacle Communications Ltd owned by Mr Omoluwa as “Seed Grant” under the Digital Switch-Over Programme of the federal government.

PREMIUM TIMES reportedhow Mr Mohammed had told anti-graft investigators that he was deceived by Mr Kawu into signing the agreement.

The anti-graft agency charged Mr Kawu for allegedly ‘deceiving’ Mr Mohammed to sign the deal.

Mr Mohammed was listed as a witness in the trial of Mr Kawu but the minister failed to appear in court.

It has nothing to do with corruption.

NBC has found it difficult to issue radio broadcast license and channel to Fulani radio network.

Buhari wants to put someone that will disrespect statutes and get it done.

OOOOOHHHHHH! I KNOW THE CLUB THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

I believe you are referring to Jazz 38.

Jazz 38 was owned by Tunde and Fran Kuboye and it was on 38 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.

Fran Kuboye was Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's niece (she was Dolapo's daughter). She was also a musician and TV star in her own right. She was the host of the entertainment section of The Sunday Show on NTA Channel 10 in the late 1980s and she and her husband were the judges on a talent competition on the NTA Network in the early 1990s.

Various guests came to perform at Jazz 38 and the house band was known as "Tunde & Fran and the Extended Family Band".

I'll never forget the night that Fela came to play there c1986. It was the talk of the town for weeks before that night. I don't know if they brought in extra speakers, but I could hear the basslines of "Lady" and "Water No Get Enemy" around 11 o'clock in the night. You could hear it across South-West Ikoyi.

Dede Mabiaku said that that was the night that he met Fela. He convinced someone at Jazz 38 to give him a few minutes on stage and he played some of Fela's songs on his saxophone and Fela came from backstage to see who was playing.

Sadly Fran passed away in the late 1990s or early 2000s (it was a sad time because many members of the Ransome-Kuti/Anikulapo-Kuti family died during this period).

Here's a documentary about Fran. It begins with one of Tunde and Fran's songs.

Wow! Unbelievable!

I dont believe we have a Music Hall of Fame in Nigeria. If we do I dont know it. But I know someone who can create and run a Nigerian Music Hall of Fame......or a Yoruba Music Hall of Fame.

Naptu, I bow for you o! grin

But why do we tear down monuments that could be preserved for tourism? Like Benson Hotel was torn down. Thats history. Olaiya house at Tinubu was torn down. Why?

I had a picture of Fela and his siblings when they were little. It was him, Beko and a girl. Is that who Dolapo is? Thieves have taken over, we worship jagudas now as legends. The real legends of society are forgotten. I doubt if three out of ten people in Nigeria can list Mrs Ransome Kuti's sacrifice and contribution to social progress....not to mention her legacy through her children.

Water No Get Enemy. My best Fela hit. If i dey that club that night I go get up spray am cash. grin grin

Naptu, give us a Music Hall of Fame abeg. Even if its hosted on web.....but Id rather it is a monument and funded by Yoruba Arts and Cultural Endowment.

We need social media law to regulate fake news, the Amotekun is community policing, which is allowed for states , that's why each state has to pass its bill, for it to come to force. Which means its not a regional force but state vigilantes.

A little bird whispered to me that you were the one that visited all those joints, not your uncle wink

Bobby Benson's hotel was also known as Caban Bamboo (I'm sure you know that). Caban Bamboo was the name of the nightclub that he established (If I remember correctly, there's a nightclub in Monaco with a similar name) and later, when he built the hotel, people also called the hotel Caban Bamboo.

Wole Soyinka's theatre group practiced there during the daytime and then Bobby Benson would chase them away in the evenings.

I remember Caban Bambo very well because it was the venue for his TV show, The Bobby Benson Show, which was shown on Saturday afternoons.

Unfortunately his children fought over ownership of the giant hotel (which was on Ikorodu Road) after his death. The hotel was abandoned and left to decay. Area boys, armed robbers and drug dealers made the structure their home. Governor Babatunde Fashola decided that it had become a security risk and therefore his government demolished the structure.

This seems to be a good week, because I found the intro to the Bala Miller Show yesterday and now I've found a little clip of the Bobby Benson Show (after searching for it for many years).

The Bobby Benson Show featured music, magic tricks, guest stars, etc.

Here is Bobby Benson singing at Caban Bamboo (Hotel Bobby) in 1980.

Bro, im jealous the way you talk about these events and especially the characters. Im wishing I was around to jump all these places you guys describe. I know Lagos very well...but my knowledge came after many of these artistes were tired and retired....or dead! My grandfather for instance spoke lovingly of Late Saka Olayigbade, an Apala singer, and he said all the great music and entertainment of Lagos, and Nigeria for that matter, happened like a heavy rain shower that came down...then when it stopped the ground dried and many people missed the good down pour.

Im led to believe you were a tv personality or someone very connected in entertainment back in the days, a music artist, because I am yet to see anyone beat your knowledge on archived music and its history.

Ok now, i thought Cabana was on Awolowo Rd. Whats name of club owned by Joke Silva and her husband? Ive seen Stadium Hotel. I saw Bebby Benson Hotel. Ive been to Shrine. Ive seen pictures taken in face2. Never seen paradiso but heard. I heard there used to be a club in Apapa sef.

So whats different in what IGP announced and what Governors in West have said repeatedly since Jan 9th. when Amotekun launched? Nothing! It is community policing! Its a scam when IGP says community policing will be integrated or fused into Amotekun. Thats what Amotekun is....a community policing.

The same way Yorubas are known with different names in Togo, Benin and Nigeria is the same way fulanis are known in different countries. The most likely original name is Fulbe. Fulanis seems a Hausa corruption of their name. FULani=FULbe=PUehl. They're very nomadic hence the extensive expansion and scattered population. Fulani population in Nigeria is less than 7 million. It's the Hausa plus numerous minority Muslim population bolstering them. Check out their population from their original countries in Senegal and Guinea.
Their claim is such that Yoruba should claim Igala, Bariba, Ewe, Akan and say we are all one ethnic group given different names. Thats not true. Peul, Puuler, Fulani are different stocks.

In particular consider Baruba and Yoruba. Dont they sound like they could be one and same people?
Politics › Re: Àmòtékùn Law: Open Letter To South West Governors, Attorney Generals & LawMakers by MetaPhysical:
UncleAyo:
you're correct, but I strongly beleive that southwest has nothing to lose in the case that Nigeria breaks apart.
UncleAyo,
Lets be mindful when we talk Yoruba politics and ensure we dot i's and cross t's. Ok?

Amotekun covers Western Nigeria, and not SW zone. So lets drop SW when discussing Amotekun and speak of it in terms of Western Nigeria.

Now, Yorubas are at home in Western Nigeria. We are not at home anywhere else, we are only sojourning as a resident.

Can you name for me anywhere outside Yorubaland where Yoruba sons and daughters have sunk in billions of dollars in capital investment? You cannot find it.

If Yorubaland lock Dangote out thats the end of his business empire. If Yorubaland lock Ibo out thats the end of their livelihood. Such a action will be tantamount to another life threatening blockade.

There is no where outside Yorubaland that can restrict our livelihood and progress with same depth of power and monopoly we have over others.

Yoruba has never turned against social progress, we are natural builders of society and civilization. So Yoruba will never take action against livelihood of our dependents unless first these dependents become a threat to our own safety and security on our land. We will continue to promote our interests and theirs towards a more civilized society and progress.

In a non-ideal situation where law and order breaks down and a state of social dysfunction takes over, Dangote will not just walk away from all his investments in Yorubaland and Ibos will not just vacate, abandon their lifetime investments and return East....no, they will become distressed.

Dangote oil refinery in Lagos will be distressed, his cement and other mills in Ogun, Osun, Oyo will be distressed. Isiaku Rabiu has vast investment in Apapa and at the ports, all will be distressed.

Ibo investors like Coscharis, Ubah, Retd Gen. Nwachukwu, Chief Obiora, and many more, will be distressed.

So in addition to finding solutions to Yorubas coming home from other regions, we will also be forced to address the question of survival to people of other lands who will not be just walking away. They will look to us as their new surrogate nation....and like I said, Yoruba is great because we have never turned our back against challenges of civilization.

When I say we have a lot more to loose than others, its not interms of nominal count....but rather on the scale of social burdens that we must own so that life is supported for those who ordinarily will become collateral loss if Nigeria sinks into a dysfuncrional break down and break out!
