When Barca coach Tito Vilanova was asked why he’d shelled out 15m Euros on Arsenal’s defensive midfielder Alex Song, his response was simply that Busquets cannot play every game. Song is possibly the world’s most expensive understudy.

http://sabotagetimes.com/football/barcelonas-sergio-busquets-is-the-best-non-attacking-footballer-in-the-world

This Catalans want to suffocate me with laugh.

Xavi himself claims Busquets is ‘the best one-touch player in the world’.

World Cup-winning Argentine manager Cesar Luis Menotti claims the young Catalan is ‘one of the greatest talents that has been given to Spanish football’.

Even the now almost mythical, spiritual god of the Barca style, Johann Cruyff, said when Busquets was a mere 19 years of age that ‘Positionally, he seems like a veteran with or without the ball. With the ball he makes what is difficult look easy…with the ball he gives us a lesson…he is a gift for any coach’.

If you look at it from Xavi's point if view from one touch football, Yaya Toure is not better than Busquets.
I meant as at 2008/09, Busquets wasn't a great player, he improved massively in 2010/11 so Pep was wrong to kick Yaya out when he did

How can you say did nothing special? When Van Gaal and Heynckes felt Alaba was better as a left back. He played there all through their eras. Then Guardiola disagrees and makes him play influencing the midfield. Then he became one of the best players in the world. If that is not special, what is?
so in your opinion, Alaba the midfielder is better than Alaba the fullback?

Was Bojan ever up there? As a kid, he was exciting. At the U17, brilliant. When he broke into the first team, he was not lighting fireworks in Barcelona. Gio Dos Santos and Gai Assulin showed far more promise than Bojan.

When Guardiola came in, Messi, Pedro and Eto'o ran the show. Bojan was never going to blow there. Dos Santos left. Gai Assulin broke his leg and his career washed. (heart breaking).

Then Ibrahimovic came and then Villa. It was bigger than Barca fielding him than poor man management.
exactly. He used to force him to play as a CF which isn't his natural position so he failed there obviously, thats a huge fail on Guardiola's part. Bojan could have done what Fabregas was purchased to do, even better in fact but Pep kicked him out because he just does not like him. That's 40million wasted

So much.

Guardiola, think Philosophy and you get who he is.

I will like to tackle Yaya Toure. I do not get the misconception of a genuine view as racist.

Guardiola does not believe much in power. The only time I saw him consider power was in the second leg against Chelsea in the 2009 Champions League. He played Seydou Keita and Yaya Toure in that game.

If you think in respect to passing. Sergio Busquets is better than Yaya Toure there. Fernandinho is better than Yaya in passing. Fernando is better passing.

Yaya plays with speed, power, shoots fantastically, crosses, plays long balls better than this.

That is not what is key to Guardiola. He wants simple passing. Yaya Toure lacks there, so I do not see him as a racist there. Why was he not racial to Boateng, Eric Abidal and Alaba?
simple, they aren't africans or they wants us to believe they aren't. He really tried to bench Boateng, he started playing 3 defenders so he wil be exposed more but he is an absolute beast.

like you i agree that pep's people skills can be off but a lot of the stuff you listed against him are half truths or urban myths.

you say he chased yaya away even though he is better than busquets. hmmm interesting logic cos one player went on to win multiple league and UCL titles plus world cup while the other went on to become a local champion in manchester city. guardiola is biased yet after he left barca coaches including former real madrid and spanish national team coach del bosque was using this same busquets who was blocking the destiny of macherano and toure to win titles.

yes he's racist that's why keita, abidal, etoo couldn't flourish under him.

iheanacho not going to olympics is a non issue to me. unless you are saying wenger and winfred ndidi's coach in gent are also racists for stopping iwobi, ndidi from going to the olympics besides you cannot compare messi of then to kelechi of now. messi of 2008 though young was already a key player in barcelona who had clout to ask to be allowed to go to the olympics. iheanacho on the other is a talented young man still trying to establish himself in the manchester city first team. he's not yet an invaluable member of the manchester city squad who can wake up and tell his employers i want to go to olympics and they will agree just like that.
the truth is relative to the person saying it. What you said are all your sides of the story, so I have to agree to disagree, but...

I said that Pep said he would NEVER stop ANY player from going to an olympics, not an established player alone but any player, no matter how you look at it, it is pure racism! Iheanacho had the best goals to game ratio last season, that alone should have established his position as no 2 top 9 atleast. So this one alone cannot be covered.

I said yaya was better in 2008/09, yet he kicked him out. Yaya is the type of player that scores goals from a Dmf position, how many goals does Busquets have? That's because he never got the chance to be an understudy to Yaya. Past Barca Dmfs used to score goals, Edgar davids comes to mind and Van Bronckhost at times too.

Thanks for the addition.

Your post made me read something. He was a midfielder, converted to a left back at Bayern Munich by Louis Van Gaal. (Interesting because Guardiola talked a lot with Van Gaal most when Van Gaal coached Barca)

So with respect to Alaba being able to play as a midfielder, Guardiola takes no credit.

Don't you think Guardiola deserves credit from changing him as a leftback at Bayern back into the midfield role?
he deserves credit no doubt. But my point is that the natural talent had already been there, Guardiola was not the person who taught him the rubrics of being a midfielder hence he deserves just a little praise.

Anyways, delving into your argument, being a barcelona fan I must admit that Pep is a great coach but a very very poor manager. Bojan deteriorated under him, so did a lot of our other young players, if he does not like you, you are dead, that is not the sign of a good manager. Even after Mou insulted Eto he still played him, that means business first and that's the first thing you have to consider as a coach. I can go on and on higlighting his faults, Zlatan, Eto, Bojan etc etc. And the guy is a bloody racist too, read Messi's documentary, Pep became Barcelona's coach in 2008, that was the year of the olympics, Barca didn't want Messi to go so that he can learn the ways of the new coach but Pep came and told them that he can go, when asked Pep said he would NEVER prevent a player from going to the Olympics. Fast forward, Nacho was in thesame position recently, what did he do? The exact opposite, why? The color of his skin. Yaya was absolutely better than Busq in 2008/2009 but Pep chased him out because of him, Masch was also better than Busquets but he switched him into a CB just so that Busquets would play because Busquets is a spanish player and his dad is a close friend too. So he is a great coach(obviously aided by money and talent) but he is a bad manager

depends on the system you want to use. I like versatile players, if you push Aguero into a midfield position he will go missing totally. And Aguero's conversion rate is not even worth considering at all, piss poor

David Alaba (Austria)

Converted from a midfielder to a left-back by Louis Van Gaal, David Alaba has become one of the best players in the Bundesliga under Pep Guardiola's management and will be one of the stars of Euro 2016. For Austria he plays in midfield, or sometimes defence, sporadically out on the wing but mostly in the middle and rarely, but occasionally, even upfront. To say Alaba is versatile is an understatement but he's genuinely brilliant wherever he plays.

"He's just incredible. He's just... wow," says Guardiola.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/08/euro-2016-ranking-the-20-best-players/david-alaba-playing-for-austria/

This highlights why I think Pep Guardiola is not a bad man manager. His ideas improve players.

Coming into Bayern and opting for Alaba to influence the midfield and he improved. Same goes to Lahm.
that means that Alaba was always a midfielder so Guardiola did nothing special. And lets be honest, if you watched that Euro, you will know that Alaba is easily better at RB

you know some people are deluded so no need arguing that. Rashford can't hold a candle to Iheanacho's talents, if Nacho had been an English man, he would be the top striker at City now because that boy is better than Aguero, he is so dynamic that you can switch formations with him without even changing any player. Probably I don't watch enough football these days,, but for clarity, who does Athletico depend on for most of their goals?
they depend on nobody in particular. In most big games, Godin scores the goals with headers. Godin has more goals against Barca and Real Madrid than Griezman. Torres last season was at some stage their go-to-guy. They depend more on their defence so saying that they depend on an attacker when they are a defensive team is false. Fact, most of their goals are scored from corner kicks and freekicks and most times it is not Griezman

I do not understand what you are trying to describe here. There are few players in the world described as World Class and Aguero is up there.

As Pellegrini put it top five. There is no way you can dribble fact.

Aguero has done it against the likes of Villareal. Through his perseverance, when all hope was lost. He got the dying minute goal that blew Mancini's head off.

His Aguero famous moment where he won the league against QPR for us. That was the last kick of the EPL in 2012. It takes a World Class player to believe with his last kick we could still win the EPL for the first time.

His famous hat trick against Bayern Munich.

This argument is something I find baffling. Look at Aguero’s goals against Chelsea. Over and over again. Mind blowing. In recent years only Suarez scored classy goals over and over again.

Aguero’s famous goal during Manchester City vs Chelsea first leg, last season. Aguero turned three players and in a midst of five Chelsea players, he scored a cracker.
that explains everything. obviously you won't agree with me on this issue but whoever sits on the bench for Higuain is not world class

Let me make it clear, I’ve got nothing against Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy and would not dispute their selection given the season they’ve had.

But I do find it staggering Aguero isn’t in there — and I think I know the reason why.

Vardy has been outstanding from the off and Kane is right up there.

Yet Aguero sandwiches them in the goalscoring chart, and while the other two have kicked off every league game, bar Vardy’s ban on Sunday, the Manchester City man hasn’t.

Does anyone seriously think that if he had not missed eight games, he wouldn't be clear at the top and City a lot closer than 12 points off the top?

When people talk of genuine world-class striking talent, Aguero’s name always gets a mention.

I get your point but in most of the games Tevez played for Sir Alex Ferguson, the teams were dominated by Manchester United, the pressing can be controlled.

Most of my praise of Sadiq Umar was down to effort. The odds were stacked against him but he gave his all. It was his effort and passion. His running and covering grounds was impressive.

Just as you talked about Sadiq Umar not being a pacy player. That was what makes what Sadiq Umar did impressive. He was playing off his comfort zone. He covered long distances in a short time.

In my earlier comment, I added Mikel into the picture because these guys gave their all.

Yes we had lots of problems (which I blame the set up) but despite all these, I saw these guys fighting.

That was why before the tournament started, I said something like these are not the best players we had but these guys were fighters. Even Ndifreke Udo was on.

Most criticism hurled at them were on the ball performances. What of when the Germans were in possession. These guys were like madmen of the field and they get my respect.

Thanks for your brilliant additions.

How can I bury my head after reading such ridiculous write up. That writer is a disgrace. Did you read what he wrote about Popoola? That was thrash and throws a light on how myopic his write up is.

That Popoola write up shows the guy's writing is very weak. Popoola made interceptions, completed short passes. Sprayed long accurate balls. Yet that writer said Popoola ran aimlessly on the field.

Let them ignorantly point at players performance and not face the fact that we set up the team wrongly.

Verdict:
Thrash report.
for me as well Popoola did nothing after he came on. I doubt if we created one good chance after he came on. I might blame it on tiredness but he wasn't close to being good in that game at least, just my own view though, I might be wrong about him because Sadiq already had me swearing at my TV before he came on, so my thinking was no longer straight then

Pressing can be done as a team or by an individual. You can not say Sadiq Umar did not do his job because you do not know the Coach's game plan.

I have seen Manchester United sit deep and Tevez pressed solo to force the defence to loop out the ball.

In the 2009 Champions League final game between Manchester United and Barcelona, the Manchester Team sat deep. There was a time CR7 broke out from the pack to press.

In the game against Germany, Sadiq Umar was the main man up front. Mikel is not fast enough to do the work. What Mikel did was assisting.

Of you watch Tevez games, you see the same kind of pressing with the team sitting behind. If you press a possessive side who keeps the ball well in number, you play to their strength. This is due to the gaps created behind.

There was no caution from the bench or a change of pattern when our players came out after the half time break.

Sadiq Umar was useful to us on the pitch because of his pressure on the defenders. When he left, it was like a huge load lifted off the shoulders of the German. They could play in a more controlled way.
they played in a more controlled manner because the sub was worse, they were even playing a calm game with Sadiq around.

Anyways even when you think that Tevez is pressing like a headless chicken, he always presses from one particular side thereby cutting off one part of the defence from the other. Sadie was just running around, I will try to get his heat maps from the game so you will understand my point then compare it with that of Tevez

Mikel had to deal with the Bender Twins. So Mikel could not just drift in to help. I do not know how you want him aware of Mikel when the ball was in motion. His eyes were on the ball, not back. The support up front was few because we opted for a long ball strategy.

If we were pressing in numbers, then we can talk about awareness.

The Germans spread the ball rapidly. Sadiq Umar's job was to keep them uncomfortable. He did most of that job alone.

For an amateur and a teenager, that was breathtaking. That is why I find the abuses he gets baffling. That was a monumental task for him. A task he did well.

Then you have Mikel who has never been a pacy player. Mikel's job would not be to help press but to read the direction of play to intercept the ball when the Germans pushed it out due to Sadiq's pressing.

Mikel later drifted in when Sadiq got tired and Mikel got a control into the pattern of play.

It was a compact defence, with a defensive midfield that supported the defence. Two men is not even enough to press. Then with a Mikel who relies more on reading the game than pressing with Speed, I find it hard you are trying to downplay Sadiq's performance.
let me use an illustration. Barcelona vs Real Madrid. Madrid always employs a high pressing game and we all know Ronaldo hardly joins the press. So literally their first line is usually Benzema and Bale. here is how they do it: Barca's right side is made up of Pique and Alves as at last season o, and the left side contains Mascherano and Alba, now when Pique has the ball, Benzema moves into the space between Pique and Mascherano cutting off the right side from the left side, then Bale will chase the ball along a straight line to cut off any direct pass to Busquets in the DMF position, he can now only pass to Alves, by then Carvajal moves up to occupy Messi, Iniesta is occupied by Modric or Kroos, Alves can either go back to the gk or try to switch play to the left side or hook it clear which increases Madrid's chances of winning possession, that is what pressing means and YES two persons can do it up top. if Benzema just rushes straight in, Pique will have 4 options to pass to and Bale can do nothing about it, so he will be chasing the ball but it will be ineffective. Sadie didn't do his job well, he was disjointed simple and short

With your technical match, are you reading what you said?

Sadiq was just pressing from everywhere and anywhere

See what you wrote and then you wrote the boy was totally absent. Sadiq was more than Human in that game. He ran his heart out. Pressuring them.

What do you want him to do? Stand aside and wait for Mikel, so they can press together.

That sounds like a joke to me. Go and watch Tevez play for Manchester United and watch him press repeatedly.

Sadiq was the top man. His job was to press. Mikel does not have the kind of Pace Sadiq had to keep up with the Germans.

Mikel impressed me a lot because he helped support. I was impressed seeing Mikel give his all to assist.

You are looking for an excuse to criticise. Talking technical match. That boy was brilliant. His pressing was impressive. He gave his all. Put the Germans under pressure throughout the game. If he had the pace of Etebo behind him, the Germans will not cope.

Give the boy his kudos. He gave a lot and deserve better than you calling him a big fool.
I will combine everything together here. pressing does not in any way mean just chasing the ball, it means hunting in packs literally and a pack of dogs attack together not individually. hence, Sadiw was working hard but he was wasting his strength because his press was disjointed I don't know if you are with me yet? Mikael was cutting off the passing lanes but Sadiq made our press diffused so they could easily pass the ball around hence by passing Mikels's press too all in one.

he does not have to stand aside, he has to press from the opposite side that Mikel is pressing from so that the player will be forced to either misplace a pass which Mikel will intercept or hook it clear but Sadiq was just pressing like he was playing a five aside game. he worked hard but that was not.his job that he was doing. His work rate was okay. But for a professional he should know how to press at least, he was supposed to press not mark, do you now understand?

What are you saying? How could he stand directly in front of a player when the Germans played a possessive game and kept moving the ball?

Sadiq was up against two defenders. He was the only one up front. Mikel dropped into the midfield many times to help. So Sadiq Umar was alone up front.

Sometimes, the Bender Twins dropped deep to help make passing out of the back fluid.

Throughout the match while Sadiq Umar was on, the German defenders found it difficult to keep the ball. They passed back to the keeper to retain possession. One of these led to the mistake that Sadiq Umar almost scored.

Yet you are saying he contributed nothing.
permit to ask if you have ever played a technical match before? I think not. standing means your position, just like when you draw a formation you use dots or circles. it does not mean that you will be stagnant, it means that is your take off position. simply put. when you press you have to be aware of the position of the person behind you, all game long Mikel was trying to stay off his back to create a diagonal marking system but Sadiq was just pressing from everywhere and anywhere which nullified Mikel's press not that Mikel was not pressing, two players do not chase the same opponent at a time

the German defenders even had time to dribble out of the back many times. they hardly hooked the ball forward they almost always passed it. even the goalkeeper had time to make first touches

First of all, it is pathetic calling a young teen, who lost his father not long before the tournament, gave his all for the team a big fool. You can show more decency than that.

Second, the Germans were up to the challenge. What Sadiq Umar did was short of a miracle. He was the only man most times up against the string experienced German defenders.

The Germans held the ball and kept possession. It was mostly Sadiq Umar and Mikel doing most of the pressing.

Look at when Junior Ajayi came in, no disrespect to him but he could not cope with the pressure. The Germans swallowed him and he caused impact.

We created chances because of the hard work Sadiq put in. So calling him a fool and the problem is not fair. He helped with a lot of pressure.

Controlling and holding the ball in that game was difficult because of the Germans pressure. Only Mikel found a way to keep the ball comfortably.

So abusing the young man is not fair.
I respectfully beg to differ. he did nothing from the first whistle till the end. has it been that he started the match well then I may consider that but he was totally absent from the game. he wasn't pressing alone, Mikel was there cutting off the passing lanes just that Sadiq does not know how to press. he will be pressing from the side that Mikel was standing, I went to the principals cup 15 years ago for my school and the first thing our coach told us was to spread our pressure, don't stand directly in front or behind anyone, so how come he, a Roma player, does not know that? let's not sugar cost the issue here. he was abysmally poor from the first whistle simple and short

Stanley Amuzie to me is a major revelation of this tourney. He has staked a major claim to d LB position of d Super Eagles. He is ahead of Madu.

Shehu Abdulahi has showed dat though he is nt a natural RB he is still our best RB option for now for the Super Eagles.

Troost Ekong to me was our most efficient player in this tourney. What would we have done without him? He has made a great statement that finally he has matured enough to b a Super Eagles regular. Good replacement for Injury prone Balogum/ Omeruo.

Sally Popoola, though my gifted height wise, is a baller. He is a very creative midfielder. His introduction in d Germany brought creativity to d midfield. This lad needs a consideration in d Super Eagles more so as we dnt have creative CMFs

For the other players they were just a share waste of time. Seth Sincere I must single out for his age and fact that he still plays in d academies .
I agree with everything else you said except these.
Sadiq Umar did not start well and did not end well. we were just lucky that our AMF covered him then, when Mikel who is.not a goalscorer moved into that AMF position we saw just how good he was. AS Roma is not known for developing strikers either, they play more with wingers and tall strikers for crosses alone but the issue is that this slow guy can't even nod the ball. he missed a clear header too. I am not even looking in his direction at all.

No, he won't give Onazi a run for his money, he.has already displaced Onazi. he is vying for the spot with Ndidi right now, Onazi should just is more like a squad player now.

Did we watch the same Stanley Amuzie? the guy is not better than Madu and Taiwo is currently the top scorer for his club in Finland so he should get another run in.

We have Odubajo who is.by far the best option we have there. Sheri was not comfortable in attack at all. He was defensively solid but modern football requires attacking fullback.

Troost Ekong should not be a replacement for either, he is better than both of them. with Awaziem coming up too we might just have some decent defenders for the first time in a long while.

Recheck, after he came on, we didn't even cross the centre circle again. he brought zero creativity to the game just that the fans liked his stature and probably confused him for Ezekiel.

Sincere was absolutely brilliant considering his lack of experience. he is very very fast and calm. he can dribble out of defence, he is just like Pique without the errors. He is a modern day ball playing CB and if he moves to a good club, expect something big from him.

No, I don't mean fast game, I mean the way we use to control the game against fast playing teams.

Just play slowly and frustrate them.
you can't play a slow game with quick passes. a slow game requires that you posses string players that can hold the ball, and that was what Siasia did or tried to do with Sadiq but he goofed big time. I have to blame Siasia for not switching Mikel to the DMF role since he could hold the ball too but that'd because he thought that Sadiq was useful no matter how small. this loss was totally on Sadiq. he couldn't pass, couldn't press, even when he did, he couldn't take advantage. he couldn't score, he couldn't hold up the ball. he couldn't draw fouls. he could only get in Mikel's way

Is it not obvious that Siasia has nothing left up his sleeves? Failed at u20 world cup, failed at Beijing 2008,failed to qualify Nigeria for Nations cup, failed to win the Olympic gold a second time! This guy is a colossal failure! It's time he take a bow. Bring on Amunike let's try a new hand or should we wait till Russia2020 before we start preparations.
I swear, Nigerians have a big problem. So it is Siasia's fault? Siasia told Dalung not to release funds on time? Siasia told Arsenal to hold back Iwobi? Siasia told Man City to hold back Nacho because you know, he hates good things. he lost virtually 6members of his first team yet we got this far and yet you want to hold him responsible? I know you thought that we would not qualify for the second round but even after we did u are still complaining, tufiakwa. Did you even watch that German game? we created two good chances for that big tall fool Sadiq and he messed up big time, how can you miss two glorious chances in a semi and expect to win? or you wanted Siasia to come and score the goals for us? we could have easily won that game if we were well prepared and if we had our full strength. was it also Siasia's fault that Azubuike and Etebo were not available? so Amuneke who could not qualify for the under 17 tourney is now better than an Olympics bronze medal winning coach?

@bolded is very funny. Pretended! shocked grin

I stood behind Siasia thick and thin since is exploit with the U20, U23 and the National team(before Keshi).

I also stood behind Siasia throughout the qualifiers and the Africa U23 tournament. You can verify it by through my earlier comments on this thread.

So, when and why did I withdraw my support?

It was when he became the interim coach of the Super Eagles and it was because his list was questionable. That's all.

So, i am not behind Siasia for now. I was only celebrating Sadiq Umar and Imoh Ezekiel. That's all.

Bros, my points are clear.
I have to step in and say that it isn't true. I was literally the only one supporting Siasia around here, I remember what happened then. SirGoodJoe was a passive supporter, he wanted to support him but wasn't all that receptive but you were nowhere to be found, except if you were supporting him in your backyard.
