@Butoneday

Yes I bought it from US through this site
I got to the site while looking for information on cable box that was being used to descramble cable satellite tv in Nigeria. After I purchased the unit and couldn't install, that was when i started my search on net which landed my on nairaland.

Panamsat4/Intelsat 4 is at 72E, on lyngsat only C-Band is beamed to africa, but i am using a 90cm dish and got the signal on a higher frequency range (above 10xxx) that's why I'm asking this question.

@George

You have come a long way and been doing a tremendous work by your posts and response/solutions to newbies questions. Ranging from installation, disecq switch, decoders questions, lnb. You have vast knowledge experience due to possession of most equipments and trying out new ideas/suggestion. That’s why I suggested you should apply for the post of assistant moderator - technology section. Plus you have access and time to be on net (atleast an hour in a day) which is one of the criteria of a moderator. Please apply.
https://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Respect/respect-023.gif

Also remember the Sonicview SV4000 I told you about, it has a feature which enables it to identify satellites, I was trying to check and input frequencies for w3a and sirius4 while using single dish (pas7/10 is also attached through disecq) and going through the frequencies it identified Panamsat4 at 72E. How possible is this. I will check and post the frequency. NB: It seems all satellites have a frequency on which the satellite name and position is broadcasted for identification by special equipments and decoders with such features. Can you receive Panamsat4 at your location?

What you should understand is that Multi-Tv is already on sat so changing to Terrestial is not an option, also with satellite they have wider coverage, whereas terestial is limited and to it qwill be more expensive to cover the whole of Ghana with that system.

where did the everyone get the impression that it will be illegal for multitv to operate in Nigeria as a FTA channel. from the little knowledge that i have, you do not need local license to operate as an fta channel, CNN, BBC, ALJAZEERA are all received in nigeria, plus a lot of nigerian companies do advertise on cnn to be bale to reach nigerian audience. abi wetin una think?
What you should understand is that nobody can stop satellite beams over a countries airspace, but for you to operate as a provider by selling your decoders, cards, etc in a country, you have to register officially and abide by the country's broadcast regulations. If multi-tv don't register with the relevant authorities in the country then it becomes illegal. But if somebody buys the decoder and card and brings into the country to use there is nothing illegal about it. the same way you can buy a drug from outside nigeria without nafdac registration for use, but once you start selling it, it becomes a criminal offence.

@pofolo

You can not get decoder at Uyo without card reader, best option is to buy Strong SRT4663x from Strong dealers at =N=9,000, if you can afford buy the 4669x Model to receive multi-tv. Majority who receive FTA in Nigeria use their equipments because it's flexible and readily available. Contact their dealers in Uyo:

@All

For multi-tv to encrypt, they just change to card reading decoders or use embedded cards and from time to time just send new keys to the decoders.  Vivid decoders already contain cards.  As for the part of limiting their signals to Ghana, except they move to another bird because the beam on astra is for nigeria and is not steerable, also they cannot use all the transponders assigned to nigeria which would have made the sat owners to change the beam to Ghana only, Nigeria has more market than Ghana.

@Pito

What you need is a marine dish and it costs nothing less than $1,600.  check this Marine dish
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by microgiant: 2:27pm On Sep 29, 2009
@All

There is no need for too much debate on which is better between Daarsat Kaon receiver and Strong 4669X. The Daarsat is a HD box which is a plus, but for an FTA hobbyist its better you go for the box that is more flexible, has support and is easy to operate. Apart from the HD advantage of the Daarsat, you can not use another card, input keys, etc. Whereas with the strong you can input keys, get software updates, use different cards, etc. That is what FTA hobbyist all over the world do “go for the receiver with most support and flexibility”. The Kaon HD box had been on sale for some time now since late 2007 or early 2008 and there is no single file for it. Even tracking with it is hell, from what experienced installers have been posting, not to mention “no blindscan” (how can we catch those juicy feeds). Also there are few HD channels available because almost everything (movies, documentaries, news, etc) they are transmitting are recorded in SD apart from some sports channels that are planning to go HD. Although, the price is too high. I prefer the strong 4669x. This is just my personal opinion.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by microgiant: 3:26pm On Sep 22, 2009
obnelly:
pito, can SD work like HD.
@ Obnelly

SD can not decode HD.
What you should understand is that you have DVB-S, MPEG-2 and DVB-S2, MPEG4 which are transmission streaming/broadcasting format,
while SD and HD refers to Picture quality in layman's terms.  Now with MPEG4 compression, more channels can be transmitted in a single frequency than MPEG2.

Now lets take a look at Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD), to cut a long narration short, for you to view TV there are dots on the TV screen, (approximately 625 lines) now as the screen gets bigger, the picture gets poor.  Also if you view some standard definition pictures on HD most little details will be seen.

The discovery of DVB-S2, MPEG4 coincided with HD, so it became associated.  Previously, there was a problem with transmitting in HD because only one channel can be carried by a single transponder at a time, whereas the same transponder could be used to carry multiple SD signals.

to cut the long narration. some satellite receiver manufacturers already started manufacturing boxes that could receive DVB-S2 SD signals also there are DVB-S HD receivers but they where discontinued since it was not good economically from the manufacturers point as more people where shifting already to HD.

Currently all Multi-TV signals are SD transmitted in DVB-S2, MPEG4 QPSK format that's why it can be received with SD decoders but no video only Audio while Daarsat has only one HD Channel "Luxe TV HD" the rest are in SD but transmitted in DVB-S2, MPEG4 8PSK .

Don't forget that almost all tellys in nigeria are SD, except you own a Plasma or LCD TV

The receiver is made for dual lnb. It will also work for two separate dishes. But remember that Nile signal is very expensive for those in the south.

@All,
Thank God that Nilesat management are beginning to respond to our
demand and suggestion as signal strength of the nile is beginning to
increase it's beaming towards Nigeria.It is interesting that those TPs
ie 11317V,11355V,11374H,11411H with all sym rate 27500 and 11334H-sym
rate-27485 of the showtime/orbit on Atlantic bird 4A is now receivable
in Bauchi with minimum of solid 2.4m surface. Though some down-time
could still be monitored at around 1130pm and peak period is within
8:30 PM with signal strength ranging btw 56-50% on various transponder
using 4663X receiver.Hoping that jsc sport +5+6+7+8 on freq 12456V - sr
27500 Nilesat will also do some beaming favor to Nigeria as same
(12456V) could not be receive within many Northern region exception of
Maiduguri (Borno state) capturing the most wanted transponder with a
token of 1.8m surface but still, some master key transponder required
for infinity card sharing server connection is not also avail there in
M/guri i.e 12341v MBC persia and 10930H ESPN even with 2.4m,
where as
Bauchi can-receive 10930H with a token of 1.8m strong enough to
withstand rain fading, is that not funny.

@ Dejsam and all,
Reference my post above,please verify the intensity of the signal
within your region and keep the house posted.

@ Olofofo,
That sharing box works perfectly ok in Lagos ooo. It will
only demand an extra cost because of one idle dish some where.
What I wanted was clarification from Adewest if dual lnb cannot achieve the same purpose instead of installing another dish check the bolded parts. My perception from his post, it’s like the sharing tp is equally on the same bird-nile. Previously, my understanding from other forums and this forum, sharing tp use to be on another bird in which case you require a separate dish for that bird which carries the data signal (internet) and another dish for the bird you are interested in, making it two dishes. But, as you can watch different tps Vertical High(VH), Vertical Low(VL), Horizontal High(HH) and Horizontal Low(HL) using a single dish on two receivers, I thought why not apply same, except the sharing tp is on another bird which he has not disclosed.

for the past two days that MyTV is open i have been watching their programs, it's actually crap.  Even the movies on MBCs, Vox, Go Africa LCF are better even with the french language. At least the air current movies, apart from the Nigerian movies which they don't air and who cares.

FTA forever. Live Football Matches, current action movies - soaps, music, documentaries, news.

Any specific period tips for me on how to locate them easily, I have gone through a lot of the poasts here. But i am talking latest info that could be useful here. (Ikotun, Lagos),
if you are using 60cm it's not easy to track w3a, also you should contact people in your area and check the strongest TP to use for tracking. Good luck
