George_D mentioned using RG6 double copper cable, from my little knowledge of conductors, Copper is a much better conductor than Aluminium. That and the dish construction could be the reason for the better signal.

@ All,
Where is the best place for those of us who live in Nigeria to buy Foreign FTA recivers. US, Middle East, UK or other parts of Europe?
I bought SonicView SV4000 from US, and it uses emu but output is in NTSC only, after u patch it.  Without patch u can view both PAL and NTSC.
Also ur can not get upgrades that are compatible with any provider we can receive here in Nigeria.
Although the for Nagra encrypted signals u just input keys if you have them, once and it will work even if there is power failure you don't need to be activating it always like strong receivers.

so I wouldn't advice anybody to buy from USA.  Best place to purchase will be EU and Middle East.

@microgiant,
A good 3.0m dish here costs about N45,000 new. I'm sure it will be about the same price
at your end. But don't take that as fixed. You can always make enquiries around your
neighbourhood. Go to any seller of satellite tv items. They usually have links with people
like that.
if transporting it will not be a problem I think it's better to buy from your end since its closer 2 me. I don't think there are people like that here because people are mostly going for 90cm & 60cm sizes here, not even mesh is sold for close to 30K because its not common

You have not given me reply yet on my enquiry. i'm trying to get some materials like we discussed on chat, but it's not ordered yet. If i succeed in acquiring and put it to test, with expected results gotten. It won't be a bad idea for more than one person to be testing. cool

@ all - i dont seem to understand the problem of this gamma card. I think it is different from white card which has been confirmed working.
The gamma can take only one provider at a time. Also u need a programmer to write current files from time to time.

Note: There are two versions of Gamma, ordinary GAMMA & GAMMA PLUS. There available files for both cards, which implies that gamma files don't work on a gamma plus card and vice versa.

have in mind that gamma card is mainly for irdeto

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by microgiant: 4:28pm On Mar 11, 2009
@Badaru

Hope this card is not the type the require a programmer, with the Juju card it's the decoder that is actually updated not the card, the card only enables the updated emulation programme in the decoder to open encrypted channels.

But there are some cards that you program with copies of providers files so they actually work like original subscriber cards, with autoroll features - e.g. changing keys whenever the provider changes keys. but if the compromised card is known then the provider blocks the card or discovers a hole in the pirate card which they can also use to block it, then it becomes what Enigma called an ice scrapper.

apart from that most of these cards require programmers, current working programs, etc because if it doesn't autoroll anymore new files comes out and you then require to reprogramme the card once more.

they work on any receiver with a card reader with the right cas interface, e.g irdeto, nagra, cryptoworks, seca

some can only be programmed with a single cas while some have multi-cas capability e.g. irdeto & conax on same card

Star One C2 (70,0°W) 268.579 ° Azimuth 5.562 °  Elevation
EchoStar 3 (61,5°W) 267.656 ° Azimuth 14.245 ° Elevation
Add AMC6 (72°W)

I'm thinking of tracking EchoStar 3 from my location, only I don't have a big dish now. My current setup two dishes (60cm&90cm)

I tried to include pictures but had difficulty attaching

GlobeCast goes after African DTH

20/02/2009

Satellite distribution specialist GlobeCast will use next month’s Dubai CabSat to launch a new African DTH platform.

Hot on the heels of the failure of Gateway’s DTH bouquet, GlobeCast is attempting something a little different in the shape of a wholesale service. “The new platform is the first (free) Ku-band DTH platform with coverage over sub-Saharan Africa, providing broadcasters with the opportunity to reach households across the continent,” says GlobeCast.

GlobeCast is starting modestly and has one dedicated transponder on a satellite that facilitates uplink from Europe and is compliant to distribute services to IPTV or terrestrial network head-ends.

The new platform, which is an alternative to the pay TV bouquets in sub-Saharan Africa, responds to a strong demand for free-to-air Ku-band coverage of this crucial region. Several African broadcasters are already in contact with GlobeCast to secure positions in this coveted space and extend their audience to 56 African countries, says the operator.

Good News for FTA grin

To think of it, I remember that I once had literature from a company that manufactures and supplies TVRO systems (those large, usually aluminum-alloy type dish ensembles used by big broadcasting outfits like CNN and NTA) which they touted to act very much like the USALS system. I can't remember the company's name now
Try this its a Chinese Company which I got to through Alibaba.com: h**p://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/216707774/4_5M_TVRO_antenna.html
although price is not displayed.
FamilyRe: Traditional Wedding Is Bullshit by microgiant: 4:07pm On Feb 14, 2009
@Outlaws
What u should know by now in dealing with Nigerians is that there are some people who don't see anything wrong in a system, until they are adversely affected by the system. That's when they will start crying fowl.

As earlier pointed out to you, if you cannot afford the bride price and the rudiculous demands they make in the name of traditional marriage. Please don't abuse anybody just forget about them. Most times when the women getting close to 40yrs and not married that's when they will start looking for men and even assisting them financially to achieve their marriage dreams. Most women take it as a thing of pride that their marriage was very expensive - and you know very well that Nigerians thrive on ego.

Right now in Rivers & Bayelsa an average girl wants to be married traditionally, in church and court, which i clearly use to point out to them is not necessary. But, because their friend or someone they know did it, they also require same standard. The whites use to pay bride price before it was dropped centuries ago. Those who are arguing for pride price as tradition should check historical books. Poor men use to marry off their beautiful daughters to wealthy men. But when they started embracing christianity they did away with most of those traditions.

Nigerians no matter how long they have been christians - including those born to christian parents and growing up in the faith - still hold on to various traditions.

Ritzy restaurants serve the tiniest portions of mediocre food, but reservations are abound. Why? Image.

Yes, Nigeria is "shitty," so to speak, but can the smarties here tell me what good advertising does for a country on the low? That's right,  foreign investment. More foreign investment. Because the more money flows in, the more production will take place, and the more infrastructures, jobs, and the good things that follow will occur, making for a less shitty nation. Simple logic.

What about tourism? That's a lot of money for Nigerians who want to milk cash from bedazzled visitors.

I'm not saying that it's the magic pill for our problems, but there it is.

They did not start with a well established negative image.  Nigeria already has negative image, so rebranding will not change that image.  No genuine, honest investor will put his money in Nigeria.  We should stop deceiving ourselves by so called investment attraction.  Upon all the propaganda of an improved economy how many investors did the OBJ administration attract.  Only people dishonest people who like to operate in this kind of our environment will come (e.g. GSM operators milking nigeria).

In Nigeria you don't need political points to advance politically

BusinessRe: Entire Computer Village Shut Down Over Tax by microgiant: 12:56pm On Nov 21, 2008
In Naija tax evasion is common, and most people don't pay tax because they don't see what the government is doing with the money.  They believe that it is only money gotten from the federation allocation that is used (even that no tangible projects to show).

It is wrong for the governor to close down a whole market or shopping area, because in this country their is so much lawlessness.  You can't close an entire market where there is law and justice because those who pay their taxes will sue your silly.

The right thing would have been to find out the evaders and charge them to court.
