autojosh:
Nigeria and Benin Republic are competitors in the maritime business. The two West African countries are competing to be the Load Center, otherwise known as transshipment base, in West Africa.

Tragically, Contonou has remained the haven for Nigerian importers.

About 60% of all the imports to West Africa are destined to Nigeria. However, what gets to our seaports is just about 10%.

In other words, all the shipment coming to West Africa are billed for Nigeria, but at the end of the day what gets to Nigerian port directly is just about 10%.

The greater amount of cargoes are offloaded in neigbouring ports in Cotonou and other West African states and then they are transshipped to Nigeria. This is mostly because the seaports at Apapa and Tin Can are enormously overwhelmed.

https://i65.tinypic.com/1118cwg.jpg
Calabar Port Terminal

Meanwhile, Nigeria has 4 other sea ports that are underutilized or abandoned. The seaports are in Warri, Calabar, Koko and Port Harcourt.

Unarguably, Nigeria enjoys a large market advantage over Benin Republic because of her population, but sadly, it is Benin Republic that benefits from the large market of Nigeria.

Many countries of the world do not have such luxuries of having multiple seaports. Some are landlocked. Fortunately, Nigeria is blessed with many natural harbors and ports. Sadly, we are not taking advantage of this blessing.

Indeed, Nigeria needs deep seaports. However, if fully utilized, the abandoned and underutilized seaports in Nigeria have the capacity to significantly increase our national revenue and indeed our GDP.

So, why are the Port Harcourt, Calabar, Warri and Koko seaports underutilized?

https://i66.tinypic.com/o6h6om.jpg
Port Harcourt Port Terminal

Note, however, that the Intels’ Onne port in River state is Nigeria’s best run and perhaps the most active ports in the country. The Intels’ Onne seaport is a privately-run seaport within the same region as the abandoned ports.

According to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics, in 2017, the cargo throughput on Nigeria seaport was highest at Onne Port.

In that year, the Onne Port had cargo throughput of 25,836,246 (while inward was 1,947,347, outward was 23,888,899).

This was followed by Apapa Port with 18,909,238 (inward was 17,523,313, while outward was 1,385,925)

Tin Can Island Port was third with 15,520,925 (inward was 14,623 and outward was 1,385,925).

Meanwhile, the other seaports – Port Harcourt, Warri, Calabar – struggled with very poor cargo throughput.

Please note that these almost comatose seaports are within the same axis as the high-performing Onne port.

So, what really is the excuse for the neglect of the seaports at Port Harcourt, Warri and Calabar?

In the process of his forcefully arrest, the Nigerian man was allegedly stripped naked as he was tried to be bundled into their vehicle.

Despite the man's screams and shouting, the police officers continued with the arrest and placed him in handcuffs.

The question about whether religion allows couples to begin having sex after traditional marriage but before the church wedding has been debated by a number of people.

A Twitter user recently brought up the question again and someone replied with a really hilarious comment.

Traditional wedding is the real, authentic wedding. Once the two families agree, you can go and register the marriage at the Registry. There is nothing like church wedding in the Bible. The parents of Jesus did traditional marriage only. Jesus himself attended a traditional marriage. Church wedding is an usurpation of traditional rites by the Christian church and was promoted by the western world.
Car Talk › Re: Nigerian, Austrian Firms To Make Vehicles Run On Gas by mikeapollo: 8:45am On Mar 29, 2018
Truth234:
Powergas Nigeria has struck a partnership with an Austrian clean tech company, ETEFA, to facilitate the conversion of city buses and trucks in Lagos and the Niger Delta to run on natural gas, as part of efforts to reduce gas flaring in the country.

The companies announced the alliance during a briefing on flare gas recovery in Nigeria organised with the support by the Austrian Development Agency and the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy in Nigeria.

They said gas flare monetisation projects could potentially save Nigeria over $2.5bn per year by reducing fuel costs in the transportation and power generation sectors by over 30 per cent.

According to a statement, Powergas will provide the necessary infrastructure for the CNG supply and ETEFA will supply gas engines and associated technology.

“Eventually, ETEFA intends to locally manufacture gas-fired buses, trucks and engines in Nigeria with its Nigerian partners,” it said.

The Managing Director, Powergas Nigeria, Mr. Pulak Sen, said, “As a company, Powergas is committed to providing an environmentally friendly fuel source to spur economic growth and industrialisation in conjunction with reducing the carbon footprint.

“We believe that natural gas-fired power generation emits up to five times less nitrogen oxides compared with diesel generation and near-zero particulate matter. Today, Nigeria’s annual diesel importation is the same as the natural gas being flared.”

According to Sen, Powergas has long been promoting natural gas as a preferable substitute to conventional liquid fuels, cleaner and cheaper than petrol or diesel, and offers both financial savings and environmental benefits.

“Powergas partners with Cummins Power Generation Nigeria, which is also championing cleaner gas-fired power generation. Cummins lean burn gas generators meet emission criteria in even the most environmentally sensitive areas including California and USA,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer, ETEFA GmbH, Mr. Johann Rieger, said, “The quality of the imported diesel, according to United Nations Environment Programme, hardly fulfils Euro 1 emission standards because of its high sulphur content.

“Diesel imports are the US dollar-dependent; hence, increasing the cost of fuel and decreasing the country’s scarce foreign exchange reserves.”

With reserves of 188 Trillion cubic feet, Nigeria had the largest gas reserves in Africa, Rieger noted.

“As a domestically available natural resource, effective utilisation is extremely important for import substitution (of liquid fuels) and forex savings. Gas Flare Reduction Programme-sponsored projects can clean and process flared gas into natural gas, along with other by-products such as propane, butane and the LPG,” he added.

According to him, If all of the gas being flared in Nigeria is captured and processed, it can power up to 200,000 city buses (public transport) or 200,000 trucks (commercial transport), or even double Nigeria’s power generation capacity, while significantly improving the quality of the air (lower carbon and particulate emissions).

Rieger said, “In other words, recovery and utilisation of flared gas will contribute positively to the Nigerian economy by bringing down fuel and energy costs – which will have a trickle-down effect on food prices, transportation costs and ultimately rein in Inflation.

“And the good news is that with the available gas reserves, it is still not too late. The introduction of gas-fired city buses for public transport will significantly lower ticket prices for passengers. This will especially have a positive impact on the lower income populace who spend up to 40 per cent of their monthly income on public transport.”

My friend, it is true that most taxis in Ghana use gas, liquefied natural gas that is used for cooking. They buy the gas from LNG filling stations just like users of gas cooking cylinders do.
The gas cylinder is worked/fixed unto the taxis by Ghanaian auto-technicians(mechanics) and they have been doing this for about 15 years now.

Nigeriadondie:
Bro get your facts correct apart from Benin Republic and Niger, all the other francophone countries of Chad and Cameroon have always been hostile to Nigeria. Most of the attacks by Boko haram were from their territories. Infact Chad was accused of not only harbouring them but also training and equipping them. A friend of mine in the Army told me that serving in the north at d time told me that they would chase the insurgents who would run into Chad but they the army could not go further. Yet Chadian border guards or gerdarmes would even be looking at them doing nothing. It was in 2015 when Chad which is a landlocked country had its ecomomy badly affected as Nigeria is a vital trade route that they decided to help. It was then that they saw Boko haram as a menace.
Don’t forget that Chad and Nigeria fought a very fierce but short war in which this same PMB was the commmander of the 3rd Armoured Division that eventually drove away the Chadian invaders and the current president Idris Deby was in power then and still is now. The grudge is still there and that defeat made Chad completely revamp, modernize and equip its military. Now I can tell you that Chad would be no easy match for Nigeria in any war now. Infact the Chadians with ease helped Nigerian troops recapture Gamboru Ngala with over 100 Boko Haram dead. This was sonsignificant because Gamboru Ngala had been a graveyard for Nigerian troops. Infact, for Nigeria it was a dead-end. They also helped recaptured Marte but when they left the Nigerian troop could not even hold the town and so BH slipped in again. In the war against armed groups in Mali, the French military heavily relied on the Chadians to win that war.
Let u stop the usual conspiracy theories. No country would allow its soldiers to die for another country if that other country is not willing to show some appreciation and/or compensate potential victims.
Cameroun, Chad and Niger have dealt Boko Haram much deadlier blows than Nigeria during the ECOWAS joint military operation towards the end of Jonathan's tenure. If you then had a new president who refused/failed to continue with the security arrangement, what do you expect from the other countries? They would not die for Nigeria for nothing! So now, your new president is trying to go back to the former arrangement after he had realized that the BH guys are not as easy as he estimated!
We should stop pointing fingers at any Francophone countries. We all know how bad and reckless Nigeria has been for some years now? Or do we blame Francophone countries for the poor funding and morale of Nigerian armed forces?

undecided A country so useless as Nigeria that failed to realize that were are surrounded by enemies. Cameroon has, is and will never be an ally. Apart from Niger, both Chad and Cameroon where so comfortable with the Boko Haram issue as long as they were not hurt. Infact, boko haram used the territories to launch attacks on Nigeria. It was when they were becoming affected in terms of security and economy especially as Nigeria is a very important trade route that they now became concerned.

Cameroon that has repeatedly killed hundreds of Nigerian civilians in the name of counter-terrorism operations, continually harass Nigerians in border communities close to the Bakassi yet no dust was raised because our own useless Nigeeian govt doesn’t place premium on d lives of its own citizens. Recently, this same Cameroonian military repeatedly dared to carry out attacks on Nigerian territory to arrest some people in the border communities in Cross River unchallenged but when our own coward military ran to seek refuge away from boko haram into Cameroon which they cowardly called ‘tactical manuovre’ they were disarmed by the Cameroonian military and escorted back into Nigeria by the same Cameroonian military like toddlers going to school in the morning. But if it is unarmed IPOB, Shiites or Niger Delta boys python would dance or crocodlile would smile.

What a country. Doomed beyond redemption
Please get your facts correct. Rather, the gains and advances recorded against Boko Haram during the tail end of Jonathan's era was due to the huge assistance that Nigeria got from Chad, Niger and Cameroun under the ECOWAS agenda that was spearheaded by former President of Ghana. It has been said that Buhari did not continue with the arrangement (because of financial obligations) so the other countries had to pull out.
I think Buhari is also trying to impress Nigerians because of the 2019 elections at the corner.

The Nigerian govt. should seek help from countries like Turkey that are very good in power generation. Ghana did it when they had power problems for just about 2-3 years and today they have stabilized their power.
Eat the humble pie and approach other countries for help. It is becoming evidently clearer by the day that Nigerians cannot solve this problem by ourselves.
