private. Public proposals feel like a trap to me. What if i want to say no? Besides, i think it is such a personal issue that it should be between me and the guy

So basically, your saying you have taken away our right to choose who we want to have access to us. How is that a good thing? Don't you think it is better for people to be able to accept or decline invites? I am not sure about this one, but i applaud your innovative spirit

Once again, Nigerians are majoring on the minor and minoring on the major. I personally dont care about whats happening at the moment, although i think that GEJ should have consulted with the University before making an announcement. You do not visit a persons house and decide that based on your ranking, you are going to change their last name. It is not done.

But i digress, i think that the issue here should be the undemocratic way this happened rather than the fact that the new name is not posh or lacks swag or effizy. Seriously the reason for this protest is very shallow and is a reflection of the priorities that MOST (Not all) youths of today have. Very shallow way of thinking and lack the ability to engage issues. Shouldnt this be an avenue for them to insist that since the name change is happening on the premise of democracy, then the name change should occur in a democratic way.

By the way, thought UNILAG students were posh? Atleast that is the hype, these pictures say otherwise...lol....just saying

Mayflowa: The biggest problem from marrying from another ethnic origin is the cultural difference. You have to be very tolerant and patient less the relationship will crash as it comes.

I understand that hence my preference for marrying a Nigerian. However some people are capable of managing those differences and per chance they chose to go that route, their decision should be respected. We are all different and are free to make choices provided we can live with the consequences.

Well said Sashaa. For some reason it is okay for men to wait till 40 to marry and no one questions what they have been doing. But once a woman hits 30, it is assumed that she was busy playing while her mates were getting married. The society demands so much from women and gives so little back. Unfortunately we find very intelligent and hardworking women dumbing themselves down or slowing their progress down just so they can get married. My advice to women is to live up to your full potential, work hard, remain humble and godly. God will help us.

I am sorry but i am not buying the whole story of him lying because HE LOVES HER. If he truly loved he, he would have been honest with her and would have trusted her with his plight. Contrary to popular opinions there are still women out there who will settle with a man with great potential. Now how is he sure she didnt marry him cos of his perceived wealth? All this deception to gain something at all cost is not a good move. Even if he lied to her parents, he should not have lied to her. There is no way to justify what he did cos a huge part of their marriage was built on falsehood.

In a society like Nigeria, why will we condemn someone who is jobless especially if the person has shown great effort in securing a job. We are criticizing the man not cos of his joblessness, but his deceit because he basically scammed the chick into marrying him. The lady on her own part should have been wiser and taken the time to know the man before she married him. Both parties share some blame, but the man is the one with the bigger share

As a lady living a broad, i will have to echo your friends sentiment and agree that it is more difficult to find a Nigerian man to marry here. You have to be confident in yourself and trust that when the time comes things will fall in place to be able to stay here especially in regards to relationships. If she is open to marrying from another ethnic group/foreigners, that shouldnt be too much of a problem as against marrying your own. I think that if marriage is a priority for her, there is no reason for her to feel bad about putting that first, and atleast she is being honest about wanting to settle down rather than denying it.

For me i think that it is essential that women empower themselves career wise and all, but at the end of the day, having a family is also important and not every woman who desires one is unwise. It is part of our culture and even religion. In negotiating our way through life, it is important to find balance and so it makes me sad when people make it look like wanting to get married is a crime, or my preference for Nigerian men is a bad thing. I find that regardless of the kind of people i meet, there is no place like home, and when Naija men never finish, wetin i de find? But it is my preference. We should learn to respect people's preference because there is a reason behind it.

This is a sad story. Still surprised that the man was able to deceive the whole family without anyone finding out before the wedding. Help you cousin as much as you can. Let this be a warning to girls, money isnt everything, and the appearance of a thing is not the same as the thing itself.

I think the words racism and apartheid are being used carelessly these days. Just because some people question his choice of marrying a foreigner does not make them racist, it merely suggests a preference. When people begin to insult the lady based on her race and demean her, that is racism. I am all about Naija men o, but if someone wants to marry from another country, its their life and their marriage. Wish them well and move on

We are quick to compare ourselves to the West, but we are not the same. How about we look at our system, what is significant to us and make it work for us.

GEJ is so beating up the wrong horse. So what has his PhD. done for him? The quality of an educator is not limited alone to the degree he possesses, If he is passionate about the subject and is keeping up with trends in the field, he will most likely make a better professor than someone who has a Ph.D and sits on the degree like he is king of the jungle.

One of the major problems in Nigeria is that we major on minor issues. Should professors have Ph.D's, Yes. But is a Ph.D the only indication of knowledge, No. I am a Ph.D student and i can tell you that most undergraduates here in the United States are taught by people like me. people who do not possess a Ph.D. Some of my professors during my masters were also Ph.D students. These people had a knowledge base that was useful to their students despite the fact that they did not yet have Ph.D's To think that someone has nothing to offer because they do not possess a certain title is ridiculous. The smartest people i know do not have Ph.D's. Rather than harp on this, GEJ should be concerned about providing the infrastructures that will allow for proper learning. IF those infrastructures are in place, the quality of staff will soon follow. My dad is a professor, and he always points out that the people who taught him in University of Ibadan still do not have Ph.D's to this day or are not professors, but yet their knowledge bases in not in doubt. This is not to say that Ph.D's should not be a requirement, but there are people with those degrees who know nothing or have nothing to offer.

GEJ if you have nothing to offer Nigerians, stop talking. Even the bible says that a fool is thought to be wise if he speaks less. Focus on curbing corruption, improving education and living standard, security and providing stable power supply and Nigeria will be a much better place to be in. Asides that, keep your committees that will not achieve anything to yourself. More action, less words

I served (NYSC) in Zamfara State in 2005, and lived in Gusau for a year. The people there are peaceful for the most part. I lived on Tudun Wada Street and didnt have any problems living there. Another area is the GRA. IF you respect their religion and mind your own business, you should be fine. You also need to keep your ears down just in case cos times have changed. For the most part,Zamfara is relatively safe compared to other northern states.

During the time i stayed there, there was crisis in Katsina and Kano due to the Dutch cartoon on Mohammed. Zamfara remained peaceful. I am not saying the North is not dangerous and that Zamfara cannot become unsafe, but just sharing my experience

Blackteeth: I advise the poster; if you must go to zamfara, please do not stay in a christian dominated area. That area will be a target in times of crisis. Rather stay in a muslim dominated area and blend with the muslims there. You will be secured under the cover of muslims than staying in a christian area.

You have a valid point about christian dominated areas being a target during crisis, but i disagree with him staying in a muslim dominated area also. Reason being that if there is a crisis, they will turn on him and escape will be more difficult cos he will have to swim through a crowd of muslims to get out. Stay in a mixed area or stay amongst your own. I stay in Jos and trust me, as a christian, u do not want to stay in a muslim dominated area

i honestly dont know how we got to the point where we spend such huge amounts of money on inconsequential things. What happened to buying 500 naira attachment and braiding your hair or doing ghana weaving. Are there no more affordable weave-on that can achieve the same result that you get with Brazilian hair or peruvian hair? I have seen some babes wear these so called expensive hair and it does not look nice or expensive at all. I really do not know much about these hair cos i dont fix weave-on's. I would rather braid my hair or do some nice ghana weaving, and that does not break the bank in any way and i still look awesome.

Thank you. Its not as if those people in other countries that are passing both Maths and English have four heads and we have just one. We are just a lazy country. We want to enjoy benefits without doing the work. That is why the country is in the mess that we find ourselves. Who will fix our system for us? The West? We need to set the standard and let people rise up to meet them. Rather than set the bar even lower in order to meet people where they are. Competence is not given it is earned.

This is such a poor excuse for the rot in the educational system. Haven't people written and passed Maths and English in the past, why is this a problem now. As someone pointed out, the standard of learning has dropped drastically. Its so bad that even University graduates cannot speak or write correctly. We make such flimsy excuses as to why that is the case e.g. English is not my first language. Agreed. But if you spend your whole life speaking a particular language, receiving educational training in the said language, and after 21 years you cannot communicate properly or formally in that language, what does that say about the person? It is either the person was negligent of his/her studies, or the educational system failed that person.

I think that in Nigeria, it is a little bit of both. Students do not pay attention to their studies anymore, and the educational system is steadily declining. That is why an educator can come out in public and make such stupid statements. Educators need to sit up and think about how they can improve the system. All this mediocrity needs to stop, if not Nigeria will never be a main contender in the international market in terms of knowledge base and practical applications that translate to the ability to provide much needed services.

@Greyfog, thanks for reading my post, oatmeal is a very nutritious meal that people take forgranted. I learnt to eat healthy cos i decided to take control of my weight. We can tell the poster what to eat, but at the end of the day, he has to make the choice to do what it takes to stay healthy.

Well, its your health we are talking about. If it is serious for you, you will get creative about how, where and when you eat. If you cannot cook first thing in the morning, then look for handy things that you can pick. For instance i leave home early in the morning, I grab an apple, banana and pineapple chunks for breakfast. If i chop them up, it will be a fruit salad, but since i cant, i eat them whole. Besides you can prepare your meals the night before and pack them so that in the morning you can grab and go.

Being a Bachelor is not an excuse, it works in Naija but still that does not mean you cannot take care of your own meals. If you are eating on the go, then figure out the best way to eat healthy and low fat. where do you eat and what kind of foods do they offer? The only way this can work for you is for you to prepare your own meals, or have someone do it for you. Asides from that, i dont have any other suggestions that can help you

I think i have given you some good ideas about how to reduce fat in your diet, it is up to you to figure out how you will make it work for you. I know this much about healthy eating cos i took the time to do the research and figure out how to make it work for me and fit it into my schedule. Try and do the same for yourself and i hope your health improves and you recover fully.

Vegetarian does not equal low fat.

Eat more fruits and veggies as this are guaranteed low fat meals

breakfast can be a cup of oatmeal and a piece of fruit with a little milk and sugar

Lunch can be beans cooked with less oil and put in some vegetable leaves.

dinner can be salad with carrots, green peas, corn, what ever veggies. Use very little salad cream

But make sure that when you are eating meals you try to incorporate veggies or fruits into each meal. Fill up your plate with less rice and more veggies.

Also go for lean meant like chicken without skin, fish. Avoid frying stuff. boil them or bake them in the oven.

Cook stews, vegetable soups and other soups with less palm oil. Low fat foods is more of an approach to how you cook the foods we have. Boil potatoes and plantain. Dont fry them. Get creative. Reduce butter, avoid fast foods.

In answer to your question, the amount of fat in the food is determined by its composition. For instance you most likely will find a higher fat content in oil based foods, meats and such, than you would find in grains and veggies or fruits. Some fruits like avocado is higher in fat, but these are healthy fats that should be eaten sparingly. Also nuts like groundnut also have high fat content, but this is also healthy fats, eat them sparingly. If you are not avoiding carbs as well, boil yam, potatoes, and other starchy food. They have high carb content, but the fats will not be as high. The more the quantity of fatty foods you eat, the higher the fat content, so choose wisely

This will be a good time for you to go on google and research foods. Eat fresh for the most part and you will be fine.

I am getting married in August..............my fiance and i are both working, but the house where he is staying now is having some problems, and might fall soon, so the landlord told them all to evacuate so he can renovate. (The rent was expiring in September anyway) My fiance then decided to use part of the money for the wedding to rent a new house for us. The problem now is, after renting the house, he had to do renovations etc, and now the wedding for the money is almost finished to about 20% left. he is now saying shebi i also have money that i should make up the remaining 80%. Secondly, there is a difference between thinking you are better than someone and knowing that a person is not on your level. A pauper and a rich man can't be friends. it will never work. the pauper will only bring the rich man down into the gutter with him/her. Now helping a person is another story. It is my christian duty to help, but I refuse to help someone who will not help themselves, so let them stay where they are at, which is at the bottom. Wow at your whole post. Ehm i think the bolded part is a little faulty in reasoning because that is not always the case. Not all men were born rich, this means they started out poor and worked their way up. Some poor people just need an opportunity and a platform, for you to say that poor and rich people cant be friends i think is a little too far fetched. Good luck in making your decision

there are alot of people in Nigeria that are popular, and i am not quite sure what for. There is an over saturation of so called artistes in the music industry, and their music is nothing to write home about. Anyways a brother is getting paid, cant hate him for that.Atleast he is legit and not scamming people

WhiteOne: One of my husband friends was very disappointed with his sister. They are from a polygam family background; their father had two or three wife, a lot of girlfriend and 20 kids. Now this lady, herself second wife in her late 30, early 40, tried to convince her brother wife, which was leaving in the UK with their two son, to divorce him because, he was having a long-term girl friend in Nigeria.
Reason long –term girl friend became pregnant and was on her way to become wife number three.
When the brother was in money nobody said a word to the first wife, when he was taking number two back home, number two was from the same village, when number three came, the brother did not have so much money anymore and was on his way back to the UK.
What a mess, all of the men of this family have two to three wife ANS sleep around as, if there is no tomorrow. All the wife which are marring into this family, know this!
So why now the sister in low opened her mouths to the first wife of her brother, what is behind all this?
