I think its really nice of her to consider doing something for the widows. They do look alot better after the whole make up session. However, it would have been maybe more useful to empower them one way or the other. Give them tools to generate money for them and their kids.

Fuel subsidy in theory is good, but in a country like Nigeria, it is a gamble for the masses. The government has not put the necessary infrastructure in place to be able to pull such a move. For this to make sense, provide stable electricity, adequate transportation (good bus/train systems) etc, before you take a way subsidy.

Also this is a government that cannot be trusted. What have they done with previous public funds? Did they use it to build roads, provide facilities? How do we know that they are going to  use the subsidy money for these things now? If they cannot be trusted with little, why should they be trusted with much? How do we know they wont embezzle funds? I think that there is a lot of naivety concerning this fuel subsidy removal.

Nigerians in diaspora (some, not all) to a certain degree annoy me because we keep comparing Nigeria to other countries without taking into considerations the provisions that are not being made for the masses. We also lack the ability to empathize with people back home, that to me is sad. Please think before you talk as this is a very sensitive issue that concerns the life and well being of people.

I dont think they refuse credit card from Nigerians cos i always fly BA, but like every other international airline, you cannot use a credit card to book your flight from Nigeria. In order words if your point of origin is Nigeria, you have to pay cash at the airlines booking office. As far as i know, delta/klm, BA all follow this procedure, reason being that credit/debit cards are not a huge part of the way we transact business in the country. If you buy a round trip ticket on any of these flights from a different origination point outside Nigeria, they will not refuse your card. Atleast this has always been my experience

No, it's not like that. Naija artistes always have their turn, then a slot or two is always given to foreign stars for a change of taste.
We shouldnt 4get dat Calabar xmas festival is always a month long thing so there always enough room for as many Naija artistes as possible to perform. I personally say that there is no known Naija musician(especially hip hop) who has never performed at Calabar Xmas festival. I stand to be corrected.

I really don't understand how Rick Ross fits into cross river's celebration. We have naija artiste that can deliver, but i guess if it isnt foreign it isnt good enough.

My condolence to the families of the dearly departed. Although from this list we can see that the major casualty are igbo people, i will like to point out that previous bombings have affected several tribes and not squarely igbo people. In this case, they targeted a Catholic church, and igbo people happen to be predominantly catholic.

Boko Haram is a problem for Nigeria and not just any one tribe, and i think that we should all think about the best way to overcome this menace, especially since the govt is basically telling us they have no solution.

May the souls of those who past away rest in peace, and may God comfort those left behind

Its high time we put aside our tribal sentiments and start addressing the issue fairly, GEJ is not the best person to rule this country. Instead of making excuses for the poor choice, everyone should atleast have the guts to admit to themselves that he is failing at his job and his response to issues of national importance have been poor. The sad thing is that those who did not vote him in have to suffer along with those who did.

For those of you defending his statement, my prayer is that evil will remain far from you. Innocent lives have been lost and if all the president can say is "it is our burden to bear" it is indeed a sad day for our country. Imagine losing a loved one in the bombings yesterday only to hear that stupid statement.

I bet if you lost a family member to the bombings, you wont be so laid back. Its sad that Nigerians cannot empathize with people who have lost relatives to attacks, and will never ever receive justice because our government doesnt care. If someone close to you had died in any of the bombings or violence going on in the country, you will not be speaking like this

AS long as we keep making excuses for an inept government based on sentiments, there will be no revolution (the talk of revolution sef don tire me sef, because we are making the assumption that those who will take over will have the interest of the nation at heart).

Despite all the things that GEJ and his  government have done to show that they have no idea what they are doing, we still have a lot of people saying he is doing well. The argument always is "did those before him do any different"? This is the attitude that Nigerians need to drop, it doesnt matter if people before him did nothing, we should not defend a government that fails to do its job. Part of the governments job is to ensure safety of life and property of its citizens, GEJ and his people have failed to address the problem, instead they tell us it is our time to experience terrorism and that it is a burden we need to bear till it fizzles out. Just watch, in the next few days, the will pretend and make speeches, after a few weeks, they will sweep it under the carpet like they have done with the other issues.

For those saying that we should not be offended by his statements, if you have experienced the violence and senseless killings that those of us in Jos, people in Bauchi, Maiduguri, and other places have experienced, you will not find Jonathan's statement concerning this issue funny. He is too laid back about the whole thing.

Why are we acting surprised? This is not the first time that Jonathan will make stupid statements during bombing crisis. Shey he has said before that terrorism is everywhere and this is Nigeria's turn, lets add his latest statement to the pile of insensitive remarks that he has made.

What makes me sad is that people will sit down and defend a person like this, a man who heads a government who doesnt care about what the common man is going through. Is it because boko haram does not have easy access to him and his cronies that he shows no respect for those who have lost their lives, family members and such to the bombings? Lets us stop celebrating mediocrity in our leaders. Jonathan is not a good leader for Nigeria.

In terms of Education, i think teachers and students must share blame. I agree that we have chewing gum teachers in the system these days, but an average student today is more concerned with being popular, going clubbing, having the latest phones and other forms of distraction. For learning to occur, there has to be someone with the knowledge who is willing to teach, and someone who needs knowledge that is willing to learn. The average Nigerian student goes to the University because that is what he/she is supposed to do, and not because they want to do it. Most people don't even know what they want to do with their degrees.

The government also has a role to play in the breakdown of our educational system. Asides from the fact that there is politics even within the system, there is also the issue of the Universities being underfunded, lack of adequate facilities including lecture halls, labs, library and such. I think that we cannot blame the failure of the educational system on Teachers alone, the government and students share blame here too.

@ Lovine, i dont wish him dead, he doesnt need to die for it to be proven that he isnt a man of God. On the contrary, i wish him well. However nothing will carry me to his church, what for? Doesnt it bother u guys that people treat his church like a babalawo's shrine? Me i believe in God, not TB Joshua or any man of God. The only way to God is through Christ his son.

As much as i detest homosexuality, it is wrong and a sinful act; i really do not support this Bill. How can you jail someone because they decided to date someone of the same sex. 14 years? that is absolute rubbish. To show the stupidity of the Bill, 14 years jail time was given to someone who may not ne a criminal, meanwhile the boko haram guy got 3 years for killing a whole lot of people. Where is justice? man-lover rights speaks more to fundamental human rights.

Like i earlier said, i do not think that homosexuality is a good practice, but If boko haram can get only 3 years for bombing up people, seems to me we are more afraid of a bunch of homos that bokos. Besides how is homosexuality better than child marriage? What is wrong is wrong, and if the goverment is going to crack down on wrong practices, Yerima should be in jail for marrying a kid, alot of the senators and politicians should also be in jail for stealing our country blind.

I think the phrase "touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm " has been abused by the christian community. God is not a god of stupidity, and does not encourage foolishness in people. You go to a church where the members can barely survive, yet the pastor is living large, and when people point to that fact, the next thing is "touch not my anointed" blah blah blah.

Its funny you mention the issue of conformity in your post and then you go ahead to compare us white men who dont cut their hair so low. Should we keep our hair the way they do? isnt this conformity as well? We have different hair texture and a black man cannot keep his hair the way a white man does cos our hair texture is not the same.

I wish there was a way ASUU could sort its issues out with the Government without going on strike. The Government on the other hand should be ashamed of itself. What kind of example is it setting by making agreements that it refuses to honor. See how easy it is for the government to throw money around for irrelevant projects, but when the time comes to invest in education, story begins. It is really sad that it things have degenerated to this point between ASUU and government.

By the way i always think it is funny when people say ASUU is all about their pockets, i hope people realize that lecturers dont get paid while they are on strike. In order words, go on strike for 6 months, and they dont get paid. Me thinks that if they were all about what goes into their pockets, they will not make such a sacrifice especially since they have families to take care of.

My advice to students is to use this time productively, go learn something, like another language or some sort of skill that will be useful in the future. Dont just sit at home, watch tv, go clubbing and waste time.

Okay so they are replacing the 2 combustion machines with 4 combustion ones. My question is can the okada rides trade in their older motocycles for the new one's, or do they need to come up with money to buy the new one's? what will be done with the older machines? I am sure there is a crony of his somewhere that stands to benefit from this scheme.

Jonathan does not care about the common man, if not how can you ban okada without providing a substitute means of transportation and livelihood for these people?

Let people be honest and see that this man isnt doing a good job at all. Let us stop celebrating mediocrity in our leaders. If he wants to ban okada, he needs to provide an alternative for the okada drivers and also people who use them as a means of transportation.

My intention is not to belittle the man's last wish, i guess when we do not understand the motivation behind certain things, we always try to find a solution that fits into our frame of reference.

Lol @ Gbawe, it is not that serious. If you read my post all the way to the end, i said that since it is his last wish and its his money or whoever sponsors the event, they should do as they please.

I believe that once a person is dead, the most important question is where they spend eternity and the legacy he left behind. There is nowhere in my post where i suggest that ojukwu hasnt left an enduring legacy for his people or even belittled the man as some have done here.

I believe that the Igbo peope have every right to be proud of Ojukwu for fighting for their cause. However, i really dont see the value of carrying a dead body to three different countries. Not only is it a waste of resources, it doesnt really serve any purpose. Why not use the money instead to set up a foundation that awards scholarships in his name, this will be more beneficial to maybe to Igbo people since he was their leader.

Before you Igbo people begin to insult me, lets be honest, if this was something done for another political leader from a different tribe, people from other tribes will equally criticize it. I know the tendency is to defend our own, but we really should learn to be fair across the board. @ Overwhelmed, i am sorry to hear of your son's behavior. From what you say, he isnt showing much remorse which i think is sad considering all that you and your husband have done for him. He also needs to be held accountable, so for instance what did he do with all that money.

I  honestly don't think that sending him abroad is a good idea. If he was able to deceive his parents while in Naija, what about when he is abroad where there are alot of distractions and more freedom. Mind you it costs alot to school abroad and the cost o living is also crazy. Are you willing to put in all that money just to have him waste it again?

I think that for whatever it is worth:

1. he first needs to show adequate remorse for his deeds.
2. He needs to take some kind of responsibility by showing initiative. Let him get a part time job, or enroll in some kind of classes by himself, paid for by him. The parents can support once they see a good sign of dedication and commitment.
3. Sending him abroad is like a slap to his siblings who have so far been responsible in school. It is like you are rewarding him for bad behavior.

The consequences of his actions are far reaching and remember he is not the only child. The decisions you make concerning him will also have an impact on his siblings.
