Ilaje44: I think you should not only read, but read properly. I don't think I wrote generically about the Hausa, but a specific set of Hausas, found at a specific location, doing a very specific business. Now tell, what is hard for you to understand?
Hausa money changers are no longer Nigerian?
You're in no position to tell anyone about what they should do when you blatantly contradict yourself in one single post.
Ilaje44: I like your ideas, but Nigeria really has to invest in human capital development to be competitive at all. A lot of Nigerians feel they are doing you a favour even though you are the one paying exhorbitant prices for their services. They have no sense of customer care, and they don't understand the simple notion of impressing customers to make them return for further purchases. They rather think of now and here, which is why it's easy for them to cheat their customers without remorse. There's a lot business people can learn from the Hausa Bureau De change guys in Oja Alade / Allen Avenue. They treat you nicely, are honest and want you to come back.
Doing business in Nigeria is among the worst experience in the world. Government bottlenecks and duplication of offices and taxes are among other menaces that have to be dealt with for us to be internationally competitive.
Are Hausa people no longer Nigerians?
You said Nigerians have no business etiquette then use the Hausas as an example as to how it should be done.
junketer: u mistake soweto for something else. Soweto is a well planned townships with malls and like i said all the basic amenities. It also has baragwanath which is the biggest hospital in africa. All those shacks u see are not soweto.
The biggest hospital in Africa named after an Englishman...
The area is mostly composed of old "matchbox" houses, or four-room houses built by the government, that were built to provide cheap accommodation for black workers during apartheid. However, there are a few smaller areas where prosperous Sowetans have built houses that are similar in stature to those in more affluent suburbs.
We all know the history of South Africa and what the evil Europeans did. I'm not trying to fight you but someone spread a lie about Lagos/Lekki that isn't close to being true. A person of means lives considerably better in Lekki than a broke person in Soweto - go find the person who said otherwise and deal with him.
sigiyaya: This is not what we need in this country We can do better than this....
Let the FG fund guys from the east
You're right that there are people within Nigeria who can manufacturer better, if only they could get the funding but funding is a private sector issue. The federal government needs to get out of the habit of involving itself in business all together. Nigerian banks need to be made to do more to drive the economy forward and lend at reasonable rates to those with real plans.
MetaHuman: lol dude, you are so ignorant... Stop using Johannesburg to judge south Africa.. South Africa is a giant shithole just like most countries in Africa..
They also have power problems and poor infrastructure..
LeSudAfricaine: Lies Lies Lies, all in the name of making yourself feel better and Naija to look good, I grew up in Soweto. Soweto is arguably the most developed township in all of Africa and is not made of informal settlements. In South Africa there's a huge difference between a township and an Informal Settlement aka slums, yes there is constant electricity and constant water supply. Just to put things in perspective, Soweto is a tourism hostspot, Soweto has museums, the biggest Hopsital in Africa is situated in Soweto so is Africa's biggest football stadium, All the roads are tarred, number of sophisticated malls, restaurants etc, many of our celebrated people who can live anywhere have chosen to live in Soweto. If Soweto were to be in your country no doubt chances it would have been your capital city. I wonder why you people like talking about South Africa while you have no clue about thhe country, stop misleading people with your lies
junketer: one percent my foot. A broke person living in soweto lives a better life than that billionaire that lives in lekki. The sowetan has 24hrs electricity, water, good roads from his door step to wherever, and all the other amenities u can think of. A lekki billionair only has comfort in his house by atleast using generator to power his house, drilling his own borehole for water and thats about it. Once he drives out of his gate with his bentley he must drive on the bad roads in lagos, get stuck in traffic jams for hours. Etc. Naija is messed up
A broke person in Soweto lives in poverty, often times around drunkards, habitual drug users and criminals - those who have been abused at home, mistreated at school and probably victimized by the police.
And no, they do not have constant electricity, partly because many of these townships are informal settlements, there's no way of metering many of these homes, additionally South Africa has its own energy problems. Nor do they have constant water supply.
Besides, all those things cost money so how does one without money pay for services that cost?
Man2utd: How many trains have been built on a bridge in Nigeria, in case you forgot trains move on rail and you can type Underground Railroad on Google for more information.
Bridges are cheaper to build and maintain than tunnels. Underground networks require a lot more time to plan and build than overland transport.
Trains traverse bridges too and trains can carry more cargo than underground rail networks.
Three bridges in Lagos is insufficient. You're yet to explain why you are so against a bridge.
Man2utd: What ever happened at the mainland is as a result of the government not giving it attention, and I still think bridges are not the solution but an alternative source of transportation, besides the whole world is trying to cut carbon emission.
What alternate method of transport doesn't require bridges besides ferries and cable cars?
Trains require bridges as do zero emission vehicles. Aside from walking (which also requires bridges) and cycling (same again).
Man2utd: It's a great initiative, but can't we have a monorail to connect mainland to the island rather than fourth mainland bridge. Govt should reduce the numbers of cars on the road by creating alternative means of transportation.
The mainland is too much of an eyesore for any serious foreign investment.
Part of attracting investment entails marketing and PR and as things currently stands very few people would look at the mainland, as a whole (not Ikeja) and wish to put their money there.
Besides that, Lagos is in desperate need for more bridges. Not just a fourth mainland bridge but a 5th, 6th and 7th. A city of 20 million that only has 3 bridges between mainland and Island is going to experience serious gridlock.
The biggest mistake people make is to live in denial. That is why they do not see what you see. I once went to my village (Oba-Ile) in Osun state and I was concerned. I told my folks that they do not have enough commerce in Oba, something that is traceable to frequent squirmishes with neighbouring Oba-Oke......even the village market then had virtually disappeared.....
There is nothing more prospering than peaceful and enabling environment
There's no denial here - increased commerce, giving people something to live for other than their religious myths is the most important tool to ensuring peace in a society.
iyb: In the north you don't have to bribe the community or their leaders to get the job done. 2. Our leaders are not as corrupt as their southern counterparts 3. Our people want to see development as a matter of fact our people complain when they don't see any new Road construction project 4 the land is far better than that of the South less rain and erosion 5 gross misconduct by contractors is not tolerated 6 most Road construction in the north is given to competent contractors like jb,dantata, motherland rocad, setraco not any washed up company 7. There is more accountability in the north the people recognise a governor is working not by grammar or newspaper but by tangible projects Northerners don't care about grammar all they want is work. Wannan gwamnan baya aiki ba titi ba asibiti ba makaranta
Is that why the north is awash with poverty? Illiteracy? Child marriage? Because the people want development and hold their leaders to account?
When have northern leaders ever been held to account for their fraudulent behavior?
MadCow1: In the North, when it comes to their infrastructure, they don't fhuck around or play silly politics with it.
In the South, as soon as the idea comes up, all stakeholders and communities around start flocking and looking for how to make money from the project without working. Case in point The East - West Road.
Is that why there's a lack of schools in the north? Because they don't mess around with infrastructure?
How about hospitals? Is that why infant mortality is so high in the north?
Which infrastructure do you speak of?
Is the north making use of the geography to build solar plants or are they still crying about finding oil near Lake Chad?
