The OP is a simpleton. Crying corruption as the cause of everything is juvenile. It's the reason Buhari is back in power despite being a member of the criminal military elite that has handicapped this country for decades. There's plenty of overspending in the UK public sector and borderline corrupt practices when it comes to procurement.

Before you cry about the difference in standard and appearance you need to state how much is spent per child in the UK and where the money is sourced from (taxes).

A bride stays with her husband until she becomes pregnant after which she returns to her mother's home, where she will remain for the next three to four years. She will deliver the baby at her mother's home and then she becomes a boofeydo, which literally means "someone who has committed an error." While she is boofeydo, she is not allowed to have any contact with her husband, and he is not allowed to express any interest in either her or the child. After two to three years, she is permitted to visit her husband, but it is still taboo that she should live with him or bring the child with her; this only becomes permissible when her mother has managed to purchase all the items that are necessary for her home.

Of course all the useless ashawo think it's a great idea to have multiple husbands. No thought for the consequences.
Science/Technology › Online Safety Tips For Black Friday by mmsen(op): 12:55am On Nov 27, 2015
Black Friday is the name bequeathed to the Friday after American Thanksgiving. It has traditionally kicked off the the end of year shopping period in north America, the day of shopping extravaganza has now spread globally. Major players in the online retail arena have been advertising their Black Friday sales for weeks – the likes of Jumia, Konga and Amazon have been bombarding their regular customers with promises of major discounts on popular items come Friday 27th November.

With an expected increase in retail activity vendors and consumers alike need to be aware of the many online predators looking to cash in on the increased internet traffic and online transactions. Hackers will be looking to take advantage of the confusion that typically comes with a sudden rush of activity to operate undetected. Consumers are warned to be alert to a number of fraudulent practices, especially:

Phishing websites
Copycat website creators will be looking to cash in as consumers rush to find bargains and conclude purchase. Some deals will look too good to be true. Consumers are most vulnerable online when they act in haste. Verify via Secure Sockets Layer and WOT authentication to ensure that the website (and offer) in question is genuine and reputable.

Secure Sockets Layer encryption protects the confidentiality of personal and credit card information during transmission over the Internet. SSL websites start with https:// instead of http://. Browsers show a padlock icon to denote that it has been verified as genuine. A locked padlock icon will appear, typically, in the status bar but the position is browser specific.

Emails offering unexpected gift

Phishing campaigns by scammers are traditionally on the increase at this time of year. Be warned, cybercriminals have their eyes on your end of year bonus and will send emails offering outlandish deals designed to deprive of your hard earned cash.

Malvertising campaigns

Hackers will put extra effort (and funds) into fresh advertising campaigns designed to fool consumers into installing malware. Malvertising is already on the rise, users should anticipate that the expected increased retail flow to be matched by an increased investment in malicious advertising campaigns.

Readers should remember the infamous Target breach of 2013 and follow the online safety guidelines – keep antivirus software and operating systems up-to-date. Those shopping via their smartphones should also take precautions.

And what exactly would you have them use to develop the industries? Water? Would you not rather be a beggar who gets alms than a king with no privileges, whatsoever? It's pathetic when, despite the oil and huge allocations, your people are as subjugated by your leaders and you seem oblivious of the fact. Yet, you're quick to point to other's beggarly status, how ironic!

I just don't understand you people. You receive more allocations than every other state, squander it with not achievements to show for, then turn around and point accusing fingers at those who receive meagre amounts in comparison for using their own share of the money to develop infrastructures.

Your problem ends the day you stop seeing others as the cause. If you cannot put to good use the amounts you are receiving now, there's certainly no way you will even if you got 100% share of the oil proceeds.

A wasteful person, is a wasteful person! Simple!
Aren't northerners forever preaching about their agricultural wealth? Why do they not farm? Agriculture is an industry that will pull more people out of poverty and provide individuals with a sense of purpose and yet northern leaders refuse to do anything that might empower the common man north of Abuja to do so because they do not want anything in place that will disturb the backwards feudalistic system that was the nest bed for Boko Haram and every senseless riot and pogrom prior in the North.

The North has resources, that the leaders cannot see that is the problem and indicative of their collective failure over the past 100 years. Not that it should surprise anyone, nothing progressive ever comes from people who are convinced that Sharia and pederasty in the form of child marriage are sensible practices. Why do they not rebuild and develop their textile industry in Kano, for example? Why do they refuse to educate their people? You talk as if the North and the South are on the same level. The truth is that they are patently not. Illiteracy rates run close to 90% in parts of the North; absolute poverty rates are similar; the North has some of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the word; some of the highest rates of fistula in the world.

You talk about 'waste' but go to Warri, Lagos, Uyo, Calabar, Benin or even Port Harcourt and see how there are businesses that flourished (before the idiot savant Buhari took power, at least). See how Uyo has built infrastructure to attract businesses to the city, from a village to an enviable destination in less than 10 years. Cross River does not get the 'huge allocation' yet manage to ensure that Calabar has great roads, is safe and clean. Enugu thrives sans 'huge allocation', as does Onitsha. Kano is supposed to be a major metropolis yet lags behind states with much smaller populations in revenue generation as well as WAEC and NECO results - if you want to talk about 'waste' why don't we begin there?

You talk about 'huge allocation' but clearly do not understand what a federation is, every component should generate revenue from its own natural wealth. Those resources belong to those states and the people there - not the Federal government which has misappropriated their wealth under a backwards system imposed upon southern Nigerians by a foolish northern military elite. No functioning federation labors under such a system that plagues Nigeria. The current system amounts to legalized theft, especially when the false population figures are added to the equation.

Every region is either calling for partition/secession or a change in how the Federal Government relates to its constituent parts, apart from the North which seems content with its beggars bowl and slothfulness.

You seriously overestimate Americans.

Marriages in the states rarely last - the divorce rate is at least 40% but with the separation rate thrown in the marriage breakdown rate is closer to 70% than 50%.

The primary reasons for marital breakup are sex (infidelity) and money.

Image123:
Now, back to Nigeria.

Nigeria currently enjoys about 37% internet penetration. This means 63 million people enjoy internet access, a significant portion of them being teenagers. (For perspective, the population of connected Nigerians is about that of the entire population of the United Kingdom.)

In 2014, A.T. Kearney, the global management consulting firm revealed the countries with the most devoted Internet users. Nigeria was number 2. Nigerians do not just have access to the Internet; they love to use it.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Information & Communications projects that the country will have 76% broadband penetration by 2020. Are we ready for the increased access to Internet pornography that this will create?

These are my main concerns: Will a nation without credible and well resourced policing structures be able to protect minors and the vulnerable from online solicitation or the expressions of sexual deviants and psychopaths? Who ensures that minors with little understanding of or a frame of reference for sexuality are protected from early access to sexual material? Who tells them that what they are seeing isn’t real? Who manages their expectations of real life intimacy? Who deals with the fall-out of a child whose first experience with sex may be cruelty and domination? Where are the professionals required to assist a growing youth population grappling with sexuality issues? Who treats the addicted?

According to the National Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP), there are only 42 Clinical Psychologists and 180 Psychiatrists registered with the association in Nigeria. Taken together, this is a ratio of 1 mental health professional to 766,000 Nigerian citizens. Dr. David Igbokwe, a Nigerian Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist posits that if we take into consideration the broader ecosystem of mental health professionals – Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychotherapists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists and Trained Counsellors – including those in private practice, Nigeria may have up to 1,200 mental health professionals. This is a paltry number if Internet pornography addiction were to take firm root in Nigeria. Already, in one month of existence of the Jack & Jil Therapy platform, addiction to pornography & masturbation has been the most recurrent issue.

In a society where the family unit is increasingly becoming fractured and where parental oversight is not what it used to be, we cannot afford to add a layer of sexuality issues to our national troubles. We simply do not have the structures in place to deal with it. Presently, Nigeria has little or no restrictions to internet access. This includes an absence of restrictions to child pornography and lack of protection for children and teenagers who may be exploited or behaviourally programmed. Teenagers already have easy access to real life sexual liaisons on the Internet. From the Lagos Sex Network to Twitter After Dark to Creamy Escorts, opportunities abound if you’re looking for a sexual partner via the Internet. Snapchat has also introduced Snapcash, making it easy to pay for shared nudes.
There are at least 93 million internet users in Nigeria, not sure where you pulled your stats from.

Science/Technology › Nigerians Plagued By Mobile Malware by mmsen(op):
https://afritechnet..com/2015/11/nigerians-plagued-by-mobile-malware.html

Nigerians plagued by mobile malware

Nigerians rank third globally on the list of those victimized by mobile malware. According to Kaspersky's Lab Q3 report, 16% Nigerian smartphone users have fallen prey to hidden malicious mobile software. The report pulls information from millions of Kaspersky Lab product users in 213 countries.

Exposing users to malvertising is a hackers preferred means of capitalizing on mobile threats. The number of programs displaying intrusive adware on mobile devices continued to grow from July through to September, accounting for more than half of all detected mobile objects. Some viruses generate profit for their creators as adware by rooting the device and embedding the malicious software onto the users smartphone.

SMS Trojan programs remain popular in Russia but their relative success could see them adopted in other localities. They work by sending paid messages from the victims phone to without the phone owners knowledge. Spy Trojans that intercept SMS communication are also relatively popular.

The prevalence of mobile banking Trojans has steadily increased over the past year, it is likely that their usage will continue on an upwards trajectory as criminals look to profit on a global shift towards greater banking and retail activity on mobile devices.

While accounting for just 5% of registered occurrences, Kaspersky's report drew special attention to the increase in Adobe Flash based viruses, in addition to noting a fall in the number of Java exploits that still account for more than double the Flash based attacks. The survey was predictable in reporting that Android and browsers such as Internet Explorer are especially prone to malware attacks. Their prevalence makes both highly lucrative for cyber-criminals.

The top ten operating systems most prone to banker Trojan malware were all versions of Windows, with the Windows 7 x64 edition topping the list. Whilst Mac OS X sits outside of the top ten most vulnerable there were 12,492 registered attacks on the Apple operating system. Likewise, iOS has seen an increase in the number of threats of late.

Most recently iOS' version of WeChat, NetEase’s music download app, business card scanner CamCard, Didi Kuadi’s car-hailing app and the Chinese versions of Angry Birds 2 have all been infected by the malware known as 'Xcodeghost'. Attackers uploaded a compromised version of Xcode, the software developer toolkit used to create programs for iOS, this lead to the manifestation of a rash of infected apps. Unofficial third parties that host the code, such as Github, have played unwitting host to the malware which has created an avenue to spread the data stealing virus which reports confidential information to the attackers.

Current trends in malware creation and utilization should awaken all readers to the growing threat of mobile malware, there has been a 10.8% increase in just three months. Kaspersky was able to uncover 5.6 million cases of attempted theft from online bank accounts and over 145 million unique types of malware. Intelligent smartphone etiquette has never been as important.

And don't tell me that Duke had 'massive allocation' - he did not, he had to borrow and generate revenue. His team had to be imaginative - show me one northern governor to display such qualities.

Christianity Etc › Singapore Pastor steals $36 million to fund wife's pop music career by mmsen(op):
The founder of Singapore’s City Harvest Church was convicted for his role in misusing S$50 million ($36 million) of church funds for his wife’s pop music career. His bail was set at S$1 million.

Prosecutors had accused Kong, 51, and five others of conspiring to misuse the funds and using sham bond deals in the city’s largest graft case involving a charity. All were found guilty in court on Wednesday. The church, which has seen the number of its followers dwindle by about a quarter since the probe started in 2010, has said it stands by the six.

“The accused persons chose to engage in covert operations and conspiratorial cover-ups,” Presiding Judge See Kee Oon said in a packed courtroom in Singapore. “There is no doubt that they knew that they had something to hide.”

Kong will be sentenced at a later date and faces a jail term of as long as 20 years for each of the three charges. His lawyer Edwin Tong told reporters it was too early to assess if the pastor will appeal his conviction. The verdict caps a 140-day trial that started in 2013. The next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.

The pastor, who defended the charges, had testified his wife Ho Yeow Sun would use pop songs to reach the young in a project called “Crossover.” Ho hasn’t been accused of wrongdoing.

While the funds were later returned to the church and the accused made no financial gain, they can’t be exonerated “no matter how pure the motive,” Judge See said.

The criminal case is Prosecutor v Kong Hee. DAC023148/2012. Singapore State Courts.
