Ilekeh:Forget the many children who die before reaching adulthood. The many women who die in childbirth because of non-existent pre/anti-natal care. The many young girls who die as a result of fistula because they gave birth to children when they themselves were children. Question: is it responsible for a man to have 10 children when he lives in a part of the country riddled with so much poverty? |
How many children does he have 11? 5? 2? I wonder if he can answer that question. |
Hardly news, everyone knows that Tinubu will be the de-facto President. Listen to Buhari speak and listen to him explain his past policies; his future policies; listen to those who speak of his administrative incompetence and you will understand that he is no president. |
olas24u:The majority of Nigerians were 'poor' since Nigeria became a geographical entity. The economy was mismanaged to a greater extent in the 1980s and 1990s. What does that have to do with Sanusi not being able to count or give an accurate report? |
sherizle:You know why he was not elected. People in the South-west rallied behind Tinubu and the northerners went with Buhari. What I don't understand is why all these northerners who are so unhappy with the Federal government are not asking for true federalism or even to secede. What is stopping them? Has anyone threatened to stand in their way? |
olas24u:He said it was almost 50 billion to begin with. Then it was 20 billion. Then it was 2 billion. Then he said that nothing was missing. To compound his lack of credibility PWC came out and said that nothing was missing. Had he picked on figure and stuck with it he might have retained some credibility, the fact that he said something different every time he was asked made his own claims questionable even before the PWC statement. |
Wsdm:You keep talking about 'culture' and 'civilization' this is conjecture. Why not talk about facts? Fact 1. The north was united with the south because the north was mired in poverty and the south was prosperous. Fact 2. The north is still mired in poverty 100 years later. You talk as if Nigeria was designed to prosper, when that was never the intention of the Brits. If they did they would have left Nigeria as two separate entities and in the hands of progressive people. Instead they did the opposite and the inevitable has happened. |
Wsdm:Unprotected sexual intercourse comes about as a result of ignorance of the dangers. Fistula is caused because old men take advantage of their status and income to abuse young girls. This is how HIV and other diseases are spread but are you saying that there is no prostitution in the north? We all know what happens to many of those child brides - many are sent packing with their children once the old men are finished with her. Is that not what Senator Yerima did with the child bride that he purchased from Egypt? At no point have I used the word 'civilization', I used the word 'development' which is far more important than age old customs that serve none but a tiny minority. Whether an average northerner can read and write Arabic is not the issue. Arabic is not an official language in Nigeria, business is not conducted in Arabic, English is the international language of business. Regardless, the stats show us that most northerners are not being prepared for further education or employment in Nigeria - more children are out of the school in the north than in the south and those that are in school fare poorly in the NECO and WAEC exams. Your claim that that the Brits left Nigeria in the hands of the northerners because they meant well by Nigeria looks foolish in light of the facts. Britain had no good intentions towards Africans, anywhere. For you to claim otherwise shows immense naivete. They left the country in the hands of cabal that had a record of keeping the majority subject, backwards and desperate. How can you claim otherwise with so much immense poverty in north? Southerners are not the enemy or the cause of northern woe. That was true when the British were in Nigeria and is still the case today. |
It is not healthy to be overweight. That is one reason why it is not desirable. |
Wsdm:What does political maturity mean and why does that northern political maturity not lead to any kind of development? Why are you so far behind in all indices? Education, health, quality of life, gender equality. Kidnapping has largely abated in the south and is nothing compared to what has happened in the north east of late, lest we forget the Chibok girls are still missing. The petty crime that you listed is no where near as destructive (nor is it exclusive to the south) as the senseless violence that northerners so frequently engage in against their neighbors, the silly rioting, the petty pogroms. Are you animals or human beings? As to you bringing up HIV/AIDS: In some regions of Nigeria girls marry relatively young, often to much older men. Studies have found those who are married at a younger age have less knowledge about HIV and AIDS than unmarried women, and are more likely to believe they are low-risk for becoming infected with HIV. 18 HIV and AIDS education initiatives need to ensure they focus on married girls, as they are less likely to have access to health information than unmarried girls. 19 However, the need to improve knowledge about HIV among girls overall (both married and unmarried) remains, as HIV prevention knowledge is significantly less among girls (aged 15-19), compared to boys. 20 Addressing the social and cultural factors that contribute to early sexual debut among girls, notably gender inequality, in Nigeria is integral to successful HIV prevention among this group. In North Western Nigeria around half of girls are married by age 15 and four out of five girls are married by the time they are 18. 21 Twice as many girls than boys are engaging in sexual activity before the age of 15 years. http://www.avert.org/hiv-aids-nigeria.htm Again, the root cause of the HIV problem is a lack of education and child marriage which is most pervasive in which region? Again, the north. Because you cannot see how behind the bell curve you are you keep pushing a senseless northern agenda. You guys have a long way to go to get to the 20th century, not to speak of the 21st. |
Conducted himself with dignity. Thank you for the Freedom of Information Act. I hope that the PIB goes through as you intended. |
Wsdm:What does that have to do with the prevalence of polio in the north? The prevalence of fistula in the north? Why is child marriage still an issue in the north? What of the issue of malnutrition in the north? The rate of illiteracy in the north? The high rate of poverty in the north? The appalling WAEC and NECO results in the north (http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/13-northern-states-trail-in-waec-results/)? Why do northern muslims resort to violence so often? Why do the muslims in the mid and south west not behave so barbarically? You have leaders who have done and continue to do a dreadful job of elevating northern people and still you champion them. You are at best slaves, not just to the crooks that you bow to who call themselves your religious and political leaders but also to the wider Ummah who have no regard for you. |
nextstep:It isn't everyone, just some people. The same people who refuse to invest in education for their young people, coincidentally. |
That girl's face is a atrocious. |
aresa:I have no political affiliations of any kind but the EFCC is not apolitical, never has been - they move when they are told to move. Tinubu is too well connected to be investigated for the Lekki toll gate scam and the various relating land deals. Nigeria has a Freedom of Information Act brought in under the Jonathan administration that is applicable on a Federal level but so far cannot be applied on a state level, hence why Fashola refused to disclose the inner workings of his treasury when a request was made - the fear being that Tinubu and Fashola would be exposed. (https://www.nairaland.com/1407805/freedom-information-act-not-applicable) |
Dimples192:If feminism were fighting for 'fairness' then they would be egalitarians who sought equal rights and justice for all. That is not what feminists demand - feminists are not calling for an end to biases that favor women only those that they deem burdensome. That is equality that is seeking elevation. Most 'feminists' seek female supremacy and not equality. |
aresa:There are many credible and competent Nigerians, the world over the problem is that politics naturally attracts a certain element. If you can succeed in business why would you waste your time in politics? You attacked Jonathan and claimed he is corrupt (without proof) but the nature of Nigerian politics is that most people involved have been involved in or have benefited from corruption. Unless Jonathan went outside of the realms of politics and found those with no political allegiance would he have found those without stigma. Tinubu is largely responsible for the APC win - is he less corrupt than those that you named? |
Vickybee:Egalitarianism is demanding equal rights and respect, as a human being. Feminism is demanding equality with the perception of 'male privilege' without giving up the many benefits of being a woman in society. |
Wsdm:Over 100 people dead as a result of the APC 'celebrations': https://www.nairaland.com/2233206/over-100-people-die-buhari Some people will lie so brazenly with no sense of embarrassment. |
Wsdm:Northern Nigeria has polio; Higher rates of malnutrition; higher rates of illiteracy; 70-90% living in absolute poverty (depending upon the state); higher rates of fistula; higher rates of maternal death during childbirth; higher rates of child-marriage. Those are not signs of good leadership. The reason why the Brits wanted the northerners in charge was so that the country would be easier to exploit. Those people are not your friends, they do not have your interests at heart - they want you to remain as backwards and as feudal as ever. If we are being honest northern leaders are why we have so many refineries so far removed from the source, which is logistically nonsensical. The most destructive and regressive leaders in Nigerian history were Ahmadu Bello, Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha - they all set in motion policies and ideas that divided and destroyed a potentially great nation. Remind me where they hail from? Without southern intelligence and ingenuity, traits that are commonly found in societies that allow for upward mobility and personal freedom, Nigeria would be truly hopeless. |
42n8dzydoo:I'm saying that Jesus reportedly grew angry at the money changers at the temple. And that there are verses in the Bible that preach against usury. |
Nothing wrong with big thighs but do some squats so you get that toned looked and avoid the cellulite (or some of it). |
The fact that you are using kerosene in 2015 is disturbing. |
Caracta:At least two of those are horrible examples. One of them instituted a number of dreadful policies that culminated in the destruction of the industrial base of the UK and frittered way the proceeds of the oil money that the UK had (amongst other things) which vastly increased unemployment. I could go on - she really was awful. The other worked for George W. Bush and lied to the US Congress regarding the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq which justified the US invasion, which lead to the Iraqi Civil War, which in turn lead to ISIS. Hilary Clinton hasn't held power yet but the other two should be ashamed. If you speak to many Brits they will tell you that they are glad that Thatcher is dead. |
Two terrible leaders. Thatcher was responsible for a number of appalling policies - more than doubling sales tax; trying (and failing) to control money supply to stem inflation which in turn wiped out 1/5 UK's industrial base and doubled unemployment; then abolished credit controls so that national and personal debt levels grew to dangerous levels; implemented a poll tax; privatized integral utilities at a bargain, to cronies. She is also credited with wasting much of the money that the UK accrued from North Sea Oil so that by the end of the 1980s the UK was once again deep in recession. As a result of her terrible policies there was much rioting and the crime rate doubled during her tenure. This is a woman who was supportive of the apartheid regime in South Africa as well as the murderous General Pinochet in Chile. Meanwhile she referred to Nelson Mandela as a 'terrorist'. During Pinochet's era over 2000 people 'disappeared', over 30,000 were tortured and over 1000 were exiled. And if you really wish for a reflection of how unpleasant a human being this lady was do some research on her children - Carol and Mark Thatcher. The daughter was sacked by the BBC for being an unapologetic bigot and the last we heard of her son he was being implicated in a botched/incompetent attempt to depose the leader of Equatorial Guinea in a coup. I can't believe this crap is on the front page, this woman was horrendous. I was told that people in the UK celebrated her passing (http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/apr/08/margaret-thatcher-death-party-brixton-glasgow) and yet here you are lauding her. For what? |
san316:Funny or foolish. |
A heterosexual man would not date a transvestite. |
This is how women will bring another's man's child to the husband and expect the man to raise that which is not his. Some people are too feckless to be trusted with anything. |
Tintinnoty:Not really. The problem with Nigeria is most of its inhabitants are not even partially aware of how well stocked Nigeria is to become a major economic powerhouse, globally. |
Thomsbuky:I am not disputing your comments, it was an addendum to what you wrote. |

Are you a dog?
I don't think the world has given us another Thatcher. I like Hilary Clinton too and Condoleezza Rice
