Christianity EtcRe: The Bones Of St Peter Go On Display by monex(m): 2:10pm On Nov 15, 2013
Enigma: @Pebcak

You might find another post I made earlier helpful.

Note a major difference between Roman Catholics and others --- others even including Eastern Orthodox. These others believe that the Apocrypha is not part of the canon even though its books can be useful secondarily. On the other hand Roman Catholics say anyone that does not accept the Apocrypha as part of the canon is ---- anathema! (Roman Catholics too like to dey swear for people, I tell you!) smiley

So, here is that one I made earlier .........

1. Jerome ('church father'), Gregory ('pope'), Cajetan ('cardinal') --- all Roman Catholics; all major Roman Catholics (all speaking before the Roman Catholics finally set their own canon) ---- all AGREE with the so-called "Protestants" about the books of the canon!

2. To clarify further, the King James version (originally and for a long time and still in some editions) took the same approach as Jerome, Gregory I, Cajetan as well as Athanasius that the books of the Apocrypha are not in the canon but can be useful in a secondary role. Thus the KJV used to include the Apocrypha but place them in a different part to mark their distinction from the main canonical books.

A further note of interest, even today, there are still "protestants" who use books of the Apocrypha in this secondary role.

The Roman Catholics like to muddy the waters, throw confusion and hope people will not notice their lies if they are not familiar with or clear on the history and development of the canon (or even canons) of the Bible. cheesy

in terms of your arguments on the canon, it seems like you know your history (more than me a catholic sef). The aprocrypha is called "deuterocanonical" by the catholic church for a reason: "deuterocanonical" means "the second canon".

protestants and hebrews consider them "apocrypha"

bros,

i am a catholic but let me help your argument:
whether the catholics added extra books to the bible is irrelevant as Catholics are not "sola scriptural". For the catholic church, the scripture is one of three sources of doctrine. so even if "we/they" did not add to the bible "we/they" will still do things that are outside the bible as doctrinal.

it would be better for you to focus energies on why the catholic church take/use sources of doctrine outside the bible.

justi4jesu: This is stale news, previously bbm contacts could only be restored using blackberry desktop software but its now very easy with the unique Blackberry ID, once you get the bbm downloaded on your Android, log in your unique BBID and all your contacts plus recent chats automatically comes into your new pin.
my scenario is different. I want to have the contacts on both devices (my existing blackberry and the new BBM on my galaxy note cool. i created a seperate blackberry ID on the Note 8. How do I transfer/invite contacts on the existing blackberry to the new BBM on Note 8

RomanceRe: Loving Someone Who Doesn't Love You Back by monex(m): 11:13am On Oct 10, 2013
I read somewhere, that initially, love is never a mutual feeling, the second party will grow to love you when you let them know you love them.

So when you love somebody and they don't love you (just yet) ensure the love you have for them is enough to sustain both of you until they learn/grow to love you. Often, when you become their friends, the feeling changes from love to like. Then you would be glad, that you never make the mistake of asking them out on a date.

NB: Don't take my comment too serious, I've never love someone, other than my family members.
usually they never love you back. even worse if you are a guy

Olu'tokun:
The only situation close to an exception is if the guy's life is really threatened and there's nowhere to retreat to for cover. Even then, the man should only make moves to protect himself and/or to disarm her (if she's carrying a weapon). Women are not meant to be hit...no matter how nasty they get!
the same rule should apply even if it is a man you are fighting. you first instinct should always be self defence.

remember physical strength is not a function of gender this days. many women are physically stronger than some men.
FamilyRe: For Abused Wives, Girlfriends & Men!!! by monex(m): 2:20pm On Sep 19, 2013
Nashville: Unfortunately, I have nothing to share but an advice to young people still dating.

Dont be blinded by love, money, sway etc. Background is very important. Most abusive men come from abusive homes. The first marriage we all know and see is our parents and the way our parents conduct themselves in marriage would have a strong influence in how we conduct ourselves in marriage. We are their offspring. So young people should research family background before saying "I do". He might be sounding all romantic and all that. But the day you offend him after marriage, all he will remember is how his dad beat the hell out of his mum for the same offense some years back. Then he begins to ask himself why he should not do the same to you.

My advice also goes to guys. Abuse no get gender. Some girls go about verbally abusing their husbands because that was what they also saw. And some even go physical. Shine ya eye before marriage, because after marriage na prayer remain o!
very true about the background thing. all these love nd romantic stuffs sometimes blinds U from his real person. Until you see the way people handle emotions like anger, frustration, excitement etc. U know almost nothing about them

Fhemmmy: You are one in few Nigerians . . . Keep it up
thanks Fhemmy.

but i want to know hw bad this mileage is and if i can still manage it as is.

also what shld be the cost this car. just to know if i bough at a very high premium
Car TalkRe: Nigerians Dont Care About High Mileage? - Is It True by monex(m): 1:13pm On Aug 25, 2013
BizBooks: I have looked at the VIN report you forwarded to me and wish to add the following:

1. The vehicle is a 2007 not 2008 model. It says so on the VIN report. You can also tell
by the number 7 which appears at the 10th position of the VIN: 4T1BK46K97U012245

2. It passed emission and safety inspection each year it was tested which is a good thing.

3. It is a one owner car which is also a good thing.

4. It was used in Texas which explains the very high mileage. Texas is a very big state and
getting from one end to the other takes hours. The owner was driving an average of 30,000
miles a year which indicates that his place of work is far from his home. The US average is
about 15,000 miles a year.

Would you have bought this car at the price you did if you had known all these facts? I don't
think so. Next time, do a VIN check before buying no matter how clean the car looks.
i def wouldnt. my loss. thanks for the education. i guess i will be smarter next time

calculusx: One quick question and pls give the whole house a sincere and honest answer. In as much as I do not support odometer roll-back,would you have purchase the Car with original mileage of 180,000 even if he is selling it for N2.5m? Pls be sincere with your answer.
i would def not have. i would have rather preferred a lower mileage car and pay more.

what i want to knw is hw bad this mileage is and if i have bought this car @ a high premium
RomanceRe: Secrets About Girls And How Our Mind Works!! by monex(m): 5:11pm On Aug 23, 2013
d most entertaining part of this thread is not OPs "seeming" revelations. it is obvious that there are some generalisations and bias to appeal to guys.

D real revelation is the reaction of the girls (ladies, women watever) to OPs posts.

why on earth do You ladies think it is an accusation? how do you know OP is not a Man sef.

My conclusion using this small sample space is dat some ladies are extremely sensitive about their perception and the perception of their gender.

Mrs.Chima:
Intelligent men knows not all girls think or behave the same.

No girl is a representation of all whether good or bad.

No matter how much a fool think something is true for one gender won't change the facts.

If you boys believe that all girls are the same as OP have stated...you should thank your mothers she was easy and didn't use a coat hanger.

That's fact.
OP didnt even say all girls are the same. @ least she got more than five diff categories.

why una just dey paranoid. If you are different/unique, relax or ignore.

AmBeautiful: Well, all i can say about this thread is :

1. The op should be between the ages of 22 and below
2. The post is meant for guys who are either within the age range of 26 and below, or who still have some growing ups to do!
3. Any guy who actually believes this post is on a long thing and will definitely get lost someday.
4. ASUU had better (not back out from negotiations with the FG but) call off the strike, so that students can return back to school.

dont take OP's post personal jor. if u can't find ur category, relax rather than doing the same thing you people accuse OP of doing: "GENERALIZATION"

Comot for there sharp guy. you want to appeal to the other females on nairaland.

i see some extrapolations there but a good number of girls i have studied from afar and have discussed their relationships wif me can be put in one (or a combination of) of box(es).

the problem is Op accentuates the bad boxes even though there are some good boxes she mentioned.
Car TalkRe: Ridiculous Mileage Of Tokunbo Vehicles by monex(m): 11:32am On Aug 22, 2013
Siena: I agree. It's just one the many pointers to the fact, lots of posters don't read through previous responses, because they're simply lazy. Typing "VIN check" into Google or similar will bring up various answers.

It's nice to render help when it's needed, but those that ask certain questions need to help themselves too, by exhausting as many avenues as possible, before asking. Or by using the "search" function. If they've got a question to ask, it's very likely the same question has been asked AND answered at least 30 times. Often those that give helpful responses have to search online too, just to help a brother or sister out. Something they themselves can do, without waiting to be spoonfed.

Often if a question's directed at me, and I don't answer on time, I get accused of being "ignorant." There's actually one such query on here right now, where the poster feels I haven't responded "on time."

Annoying!
master when ur workshop dey come naija na. we are fed up with poorly-trained naija mechanics. Do you have anyone you can recommend here in lagos?

RomanceRe: Why Are Some Men In Their Late 30s And Upward Single? by monex(m): 10:14pm On Jul 31, 2013
MRbrownJAY: - because they decide that they would rather be single than with the wrong woman. we all know that women are good at pretending to be who they are not, and we all have a friend who marry the perfect girl, only for her to turn into bridezilla from hell!

- because they havent found the right one. no need to rush in such important step in your life.

- because they understand that marriage aint shiit....or as they say:" just a piece of paper"

- because they fully understand and accept that marriage aint easy....and it takes a very strong man to act right in marriage. if you dont have the strength to go down with all the shiit that you have to go through, in order to have a peaceful marriage, then DONT GET MARRIED!

- because the law today is so good that you can get all the perks of marriage without being married. just live with a partner long enough, et voila! and as they say:" why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free"

the important point you have to remember is that, it is very easy for a man today to enjoy life as a single man till he is 50, and then marry a 30yr old gal.......while the opposite would be harder, if not impossible (unless you live in Hollywood) or are in search of green card.

the important question you should have asked yourself IS: what made this 39yr old man think a 20 something lady would accept to marry him? and there lay the issue. sadly, if a man in Nigeria is comfortable he can even marry an 18yr old virgin, because most women in Africa value men with their wealth, not their person......a nd women of today dont want to strive and struggle to build a family, they want it MADE.

and last but not least, marriage makes some women complacent, they let go, they tend to not care about their looks or to please their man any longer....because the ring is on their fingers. soon enough, many turn in to baby whale, HABA!!!!!! in order to keep that girl on her toe, you have to let her understand that A) you still have the ability to get any woman out there but CHOOSE to be with her B) if she fukcs up or let go of herself she is OUT and C) she must work hard to keep her man (date/flirt/play/laugh/travel etc)
best answer(s) so far.
Christianity EtcRe: What Did Pope Francis Really Mean By "Who Am I To Judge Gay People"? by monex(m): 5:28pm On Jul 30, 2013
monex: the Pope and the church teaches that homosexuality is a sin.

do u persecute someone for having the tendency to rape or commit adultery/fornication. No. You persecute him for giving in to his tendency to fornicate/lust/rape.
Christianity EtcRe: What Did Pope Francis Really Mean By "Who Am I To Judge Gay People"? by monex(m): 5:27pm On Jul 30, 2013
monex: first people are not born gay. it is your environment/experiences that made you gay.
second: even when a hitherto gay person gives his/her life to Christ, the homo-sexual tendencies do not automatically disappear. it is a life-long war against it. you will pray against it and all that. You will fight it and will never lobby for it. accepting urself as one with gay tendencies and not a gay person and realising that you need prayer and discipline.

so it is possible to be a born-again xtian and have gay tendencies. the sin is in giving in to those tendencies. the Pope condemned the sin and the lobbying but did not condemn the tendency.

even for heterosexuals, we fight a life-long war against our tendency to lust. even marriage (heterosexual - homosexual union is not marriage) requires as much discipline as celibacy.
