Nigerians dont understand the true cost of not changing, when we do things will move forward. When everyone in Nigeria starts to cry like you, and are prepared to take the necessary steps to effect change then things will happen. |
Is there a lesson in this for Nigeria? Gabon has signed deals to diversify its economy in an attempt to be less reliable on its dwindling oil reserves. The government has announced contracts with Asian companies worth $4.5bn billion dollars. President Ali Bongo signed the agreements on the eve of the country's 50th anniversary of its independence from France. The projects will revamp infrastructure and create about 50,000 jobs. New partners Gabon's oil output has been declining for years and the new deals are presented as the first steps towards diversification. The largest deal is the with OLAM, a Singapore-based company which plans to develop a huge palm oil plantation in the south east. The government wants to become the leading palm oil producer in Africa. In terms of infrastructure, the OLAM deal involves the construction of a refinery, and there are plans for a possible port. Another agreement was signed with the Indian company M3M, to build 5,000 low-cost housing units over the next two years. Ramky Infrastructure, another Indian construction company, will build 1,000 kilometres of tarred road over the next three years in a $1.5bn project that will be jointly financed by the Gabonese government. Gabon has already attracted a number of Asian investors, notably Malaysian and Chinese companies, but most of them were interested in the mining and timber sectors. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10985014 |
leave him, maybe pdp will finally destroy itself |
@Beaf, I wish I could say I admire your dogged determination to define GJ for spending money recklessly. The argument here is not if past leader have been corrupt and wasteful, that goes without saying, But to justify Jonathans recent unchecked wayward spending, is sad. I asked a simple question, if Jonathan was a manager in a good private company and spent money the way he did, not only will he be sacked, he would probably be jailed. Drop sentiments, because I am also from ND, and Jonathan is far from the best qualified candidate for the job. He lacks Ideas, direction, and the deisred will to make the necessary change to drive Nigeria forward. He simply isnt up to the Job. |
Beaf is waiting for presidential orders. You guys should relax |
Absolute Dead-ender, no one should be paying attention to this wretched thief |
The day we mature and start reasoning like adults, instead of having blind loyalty, that day Democracy will move forward in Nigeria. Jonathan has not done well, and I am not saying he is worse than previous presidents, but his first 100days in office will probably get a 15% score, and if that is an exam, he has failed woefully. |
@Beaf, if you explanation is that Jonathan needs to expand the presidential fleet, then your excuse is extremely lame, and my view of your beloved president has even worsened. Jonathan, is the only president I know who does not understand that there is a global economic squeeze, he is the only President (From a poor country), who is spending vast sums of money, when everyone esle is restructuring and cutting spending, even bigger economies (USA, UK), are implementing drastic economic policies, all in the bid to reduce spending and save money. So you explanation my boy, goes to show that Oga Jonathan does not have a full grasp of the office of the President and what is required. Again to start comparing him to someone else who spent $23b is typical of us Nigerians, we are very good at seeing some sort of good in rubbish. Simple, Jonathan is not up to the job, so please drop this baseless sentiment and deal with facts. Simple question, would Jonathan be sack for performance if he worked for a top private company,?my answer YES |
@Beaf, Ok please justify GJ spending $150M on presidential jets. Please sir clarify that for me |
@Beaf, read my post properly before you respond. In a true democracy, you will have proper opposition to check the governments excesses. Right now we dont, that is why GJ is running off spending money like a kid in a candy store. Now I did not say Buhari was better that GJ, but he represents some sort of opposition and he should be talking up. Stop letting sentiments cloud your vision and judgement. What we have in Nigeria is no government, just a bunch of cowboys taking the whole country (and that includes you), for a very cheap ride. And as usual the common man is always easily decieved. |
U see our is there is not credible opposition, that is just the problem we have. Nigeria is a 1 party state, no opposing parties challenging whats going on. This is were opposing leaders should be taking a good swipe. Where is Donald Duke, Buhari, Atiku, etc. I expect the opposition to be cririsizing the government, when they get it wrong, but they are not, probably because they will do the same when they get it. Buhari, should be questioning why the presidency sees it fit to spend $150m on presidential jets when Nigeria is in the middle of a major economic crisis, why they plan on spending in excess of 74BN on voters register, and 12BN on independence day party? |
@beaf, Listen, some of GJ gaffes go beyond mistake. How can you justify 74BN for voters registeration, 12BN for Independence day celebration, $150m for presidential jets, abi Jonathan is the only guy in town that does not understand there is serious global economic crisis, more importantly Nigerians are hungry. And if I am being honest GJ hasnt got a clue, and all these name dropping doesnt mean a thing, these same guys came to see Obj while he was in office, did he not loot the treasury dry? Sentiment and emotions apart, GJ hasnt got what it takes to move Nigeria in the right direction. does not mean he cannot be the president of Nigeria, anyone can, after all we have a lot of agbero's and area boys in the senate and house of reps |
Please let us have a clear definition of what progress is. I think people are misunderstanding real progress with expected duties. My definition of progress means Delta should be bright RED. |
@jeyians, I am Deltan, and one who wants the best for every Deltan. Not one who is easy bought like those 2 naira Ashawos. Ibori is a Thief, a BIG one at that, and I make no apologies for that, he can rot in jail for all I care. If you are a true Deltan, and understand the meaning of good governance, you will not be showing your Illiteracy on a public forum. Ibori is a Phucking Thief and should face his crimes like a big boy, abi is he not Ogreedigbodigbo again. And yes I am not a saint, but I have never defrauded the good people of Deltan state, and never intend to. This just shows where the mentality of the common man lies, give him a bucket of garri, and then he anoints Ibori saint |
Listen Guys, I think the writer raises a very interesting point. Emotions apart, if we deal with real facts, GJ has been terrible, and this is an honest criticism from me, someone from his area. So there is nothing tribal about this. There has been no full understanding and appreciation of the true state of Nigeria, it has been guess work from days one, and I for one have been far from impressed, and i have often argued that. Nigeria is the only country going through such unprecedented economic crisis, and the Chief in Staff then goes off and spends such vast sums of money, in what in my view is extremely trivial and non important issue. How, how for the sake of Nigerians can the Governmnt justify approving 74BN for voters registeration, what about 12BN for independence day celebration, he is even asking for $4.5BN loan for infrastructure work, and to add insult he has shown how insensitive he is towards the plight of the common Nigerian by spending $150M of presidential jets. Now this is just sheer lunacy, and an idication that he does not have a clue |
Ibori is a DAMN THIEF and DESERVES to be BEHIND BARS, he should stop acting like a small baby and face up to his CRIMES. CANT STAND THE TIME DONT DO THE CRIME. Ibori did nothing for Delta state, and anyone who thinks he did is a stack Illiterate, simple |
This can only happen because Nigeria is in total disarray, But some of these things are hard facts that we fail to face upto. Go to the UK, we are notorious for Credit card fraud, or is it 419, or drugs in the far east and south america. And then we are lead by a bunch of thieving politicians, who steal all the money and hide it is SA. Until we face up to the true state of our country, I am afraid this is one of many unpleasantries we are likely to face. Sorry, but it is the damn truth |
The motherPhucker should stop kidding himself and head back to jail |
@egu, Listen my bro, Nigeria is not in a state that we start giving leaders massive leeway. The country is in serious melt down, and the what we get is a president, worse than a kid in a candy store. If he has proper thoughts in his head, he would not have bought those planes. Pure and simple, Nigeria cannot afford 3 presidential jets. What happened to the ones that were bought in 1999, 2006. Anyone that understands aviation, knows that a planes lifespans is normally between 25-30yrs, in the aviation industry the old planes are still considered new. But mr President does not know that Someone has probably told him that he has the keys to the treasure chest, why not spend as you like, na u be oga, Nigerians no go talk. And as usual we dont. Where is the opposition, Buhari, Ibb, Atiku, all them Phucking bastards should be shouting foul, but no they are not, cos they know they will do the same. where are the trade unions? where is AC? this is what oppositions do, they challenge the government in power when they stray, and GJ and his band of robber have strayed big time, but as usual We Nigerians go siddon dey look. We really have the gorvenment we deserve, so I think we should all stop complaining and suck it up |
@Kobo, That is my worry, we already have a terrible reputation globally, we really dont need to add this rubbish to our already phucked up name. The minister in charge must be hounded down and sack. This just shows the toatly lack of grasp of the offices in Nigeria by the various ministries. if you did a search in other ministries you would probably find similar |
@egu, the president is a damn fool if he got this sort of advice and acted on the wrong side. Listen folks, we have the sort of government we deserve, because Nigerians are not prepared to do what it takes to move the country forward. All this rubbish talk we keep doing on here is really begining to tire me. Nigerians talk too much and act little. Where are the unions and the good folks of Nigeria who should be opposing this rubbish. From day one, I never layed much faith on Jonathan, he never tsruck me as someone who knew how to wipe his bottom clean let alone lead a country, especially one so disfunctional as Nigeria |
It is not a case of feeling ashamed. Nothing in Nigeria works, absolutely nothing, and more importantly, we Lack integrity. This is not new, there is nothing we do properly in that country, we cut corner with everything, and that has been our biggest problem. I bet there should have been someone supervising the process, where is he or her. If it was any other country, the government minister inchagre will be sacked, because Nigeria can easily be accused of fraud / impesonation. Infact, I am going to blow this issue, until the idiot incharge, gets the sack. |
They should all sharrrap and go and look for work like everyone else. Thieves |
I am excited that men and women from ND are not letting sentiments cloud good judgement. Goodluck has made a lot of rubbish decisions and should be told so. The man is cluesless and not one I will be supporting come next election. I am convinced that the depth of corruption and mismanagement in Nigeria can not be fixed with sofri-sofri approach |
If he is bored, let him go and farm. Lets not forget he has been unemployed since 1993. |
I dont know about u guys, but I am just sick and tired of all this rubbish. The country is just rotten beyond belief. They are all common thieves, and Jonathan is providing to be just the same. I honestly think that we are fast passing the point were Nigeria can be sorted out through any peaceful means. The depth of rot is just staggering |
He is as clueless as they come, absolutely no ideas what so ever. 1: 17BN for independence day celebration 2: Sanators and house of reps member get $1.7m annually 3: 74BN voters registeration 4: 21BN Presidential jet allocation and may more. All in the space of less than 6 months. Which way Nigeria ![]() |
There is the cost of buying the jets, but also the cost of maintaining the jets. Why do we always put ourselves in this sort of stupid situations. What is wrong with the jets that were bought in 1999. Planes typically have 25-30yrs lifespan. what is with the waste. This GJ guy is just showing his lack of ideas. |
All the parties have no ideology and stand for nothing but fraud. Same difference. Buhari may be honest, and somehow got my vote, but I have been recently reminded that he headed PTF, which was a total disaster. |
The whole process is being rushed and not properly thought through. The amount of money we are talking about is just staggering, and I am shocked no one is seriously crying foul. This just shows the weakness in GJ government. I really dont know what he represents. |
Well, the truth is finally coming out. Nigeria as a country has been broke for year, people just failed to see it. If A Senator can earn in excess of $1.7m salary, what do you expect. The country is downright finished and I think we should all start accepting that as FACT |
74 Billion Naira for voter registeration is pure day light robbery. Why do we continue doing these sort of things ourselves. and we all thought GJ was doing a good job. |
