Tolulop001:Her point is FUNDAMENTAL, everyone in that hall i beleive wants a better Nigeria, its the how that we differ. |
dman has lost himself, he doesn't know how to conclude. |
he cant commit cos he knows subsidy is not workable but if he supports it its political seppuku. |
BIGER BOY:That's d result of government trying to provide things that private enterprise should. oya go and buy your subsidized petrol to fuel gen LOL |
alj_harem:If you buy the crude @ international prices, you would not necessarily pay less, the only savings would be shipping costs. Local Private refineries will not get crude at concessionary rates like NNPC. Feedstock accounts for about 70% of refining cost. The only way it will definitely be cheaper is if ALL new refineries are government owned and we ignore the opportunity cost of "dashing" them crude to refine. Government's record in owning commercial concerns is abysmal. Also please STOP spreading this story that 90% of refineries are govt owned. That's a dangerous fallacy. |
I fear this debate is a dialogue of the deaf. The positions are entrenched and no side is ready to change. Its like a debate between democrats and republicans, capitalists and communists. |
Banks and corporations change their vehicles every 5 years, if the replacement cycle is due for a change of the president's car then so be it. So you people want the PRESIDENT of Nigeria to ride in a Peugeot 406 Bestline abi? The PRESIDENT? you guys must be insane! Its the OFFICE that deserves it not the individual, even if na secondary school boy dey there he should ride in the car. There's a difference between bullet resistant and bullet proof. The man who googled a $98k vehicle should note that the benz is an AMOURED vehicle, BIG DIFFERENCE. GEJ sneeze sef una go complain. Next we go begin complain about the kind of toilet roll used in Aso Villa, enough already. |
lagerwhenindoubt:see what I mean? This is why I try to keep my posts short, but it still gives some people problems. Bros go drink your lager cos you are really in doubt now. |
This is a typical "dem say" thread, I don't know when posting long diatribes constitute facts. Anyway this is NLand, teeming with angry youths and armchair "experts". |
has it occurred to anyone of you that there is no real basis for the "protest"? What did they want? No tolls? EVERYBODY knew the road will be tolled even before the first brick was laid and they all kept quiet. After years of construction they are now carrying placards? That shows a lack of seriousness, its just the usual "we no go gree" attitude of Nigerians. If you expect a private company (whoever owns it) to raise commercial funds and build a road then not toll it then you must be loco. FYI Lagos-Ibadan express will be tolled when completed "protester" shd buy stacks of cardboard because there lots of opportunities ahead. |
^ Thanks for the "correction" but education teaches basic logic. Most of the posts on Nland these days lacks this vital ingredient and hence the debates have been reduced to hurling insults. Am not referring to technical issues and knowledge of jargon(quarks and hadrons hardly show up in everyday conversations) |
I keep saying it, the level of our education in Nigeria is worrisome, for someone to call an investment fund a "shell company" shows how uninformed a lot of us are. I won't comment beyond that. |
^^ are u ok? |
I didn't hear anybody say well done to FG or is YOUWIN an NGO program? The usual people who flood threads with insults are giving this one a wide berth. |
The president must be more worried by the quality of english in the posts not the negative comments. Some posts don't even make sense. |
JamesDoe:I hope you applied cos you really need the training on how to run a biz. The disbursements to beneficiaries are not the only outlays. the man said they were fed, it costs money, halls are rented and paid for, materials for training are not free, transportation is not by foot and administrative work would not be done by a charity organization. You don't have access to all the information so you can't make any judgement. |
Nsiadi my bro save your energy, I have observed the steep decline in the quality of debate on Nland and its saddening. Shows how confused and poorly educated most of our youth are, they can hardly marshal out a logical argument and thus resort to insults as an alternative. You see guys posting points that are AGAINST their own position! Its alarming. |
An article written by a foreign (Canadian) newspaper highlighting what Analysts in world finance have concluded and some clowns here are falling over themselves to display their ignorance. Like it or not the Nigerian economy WILL overtake south africa in the near future (several credible NON Nigerian studies have shown this) The problem with most of us is that we have lost confidence in ourselves and we cover up by pretending we lost confidence in the country. ALL the problems we gleefully highlight are BIG investment opportunities and one would expect our youth to think of how to key in to the ongoing change and make money, instead we are busy shouting and insulting while others are doing. There are three kinds of people- 1 those who MAKE things happen 2 Those who WATCH things happen 3 Those who WONDER what happened. May we not fall in the last 2 categories. |
Beaf save your breath, most posters don't even understand what oil subsidy is (You will be surprised how ignorant a lot of us are about what subsidy actually is) so engaging them in any form of reasoned debate is a waste of time (their premise is already faulty). Allow the internet warriors to take out their frustration on their keyboards. I keep saying it- Nland is exposing the alarming decline of our educational system (bracing myself for the inevitable flood of insults) |
Beaf:I will vote this as post of the year! I don't always agree with you but the above nicely sums up the problem of the Nigerian youth. Poor grasp of issues, zero appreciation of the real problems of Nigeria (no corruption is not the biggest problem) and generally a pitifully poor ability to debate key subjects. Anybody who wants to carry out a "revolution" because of fuel subsidy needs to be committed to an asylum. |
lagbaja:Guy if I were you I will be celebrating the textbook contract, because man you need to get yourself EDUCATED! Your English makes it difficult to believe any "fact" you roll out. |
From the comments on this thread I think Mr. President should forget about roads and invest in EDUCATION! The English here is heartbreaking. |
crowaddy:The only sensible post so far. No serious investor will put money behind this project, that's why the PP flopped in the first place (had nothing to do with market conditions, a good deal will get funding in any climate) This 2012 talk is anchored on the proposed deregulation, that's when investors will be willing to back ANY private refinery. I have no knowledge of refinery construction so i cant comment on the lead time for completion. |
This post is incoherent, the quality of discourse on this forum is getting worse by the day. The questions asked are simple issues that can be found in several public documents. I fail to see the point the poster is trying to make. |
playmode:I stand by my post, if you have an online biz solely for the Nigerian market, you will need loads of capital to keep it up until you have enough customers to be sustainable. This is still a business and it must still conform to the rules of business. We are not there yet. Internet/pc penetration is growing but full utilization for e-commerce by households is still nascent. |
Cuba is still hanging on and we know what shape they are in. China is only politically communist/Marxist, they've long stopped pretending it works economically. Let's not even talk about North Korea, they are depending on food aid these days and that puts them at par with Somalia. |
Anyone mentioning marxist theories as a solution to Nigeria's economic woes must have been living under a rock on planet uranus for the past 50 years. The reason we are in this mess is because the free market system has not been allowed to operate. The government is too centralized, crowds out the private sector and the structure of the federation ensures nothing works. For those who are advocating building refineries under the current structure I have one question- If you had the money will you build a refinery in Nigeria today? |
spectacular flop, Nigerians have not yet embraced the culture of online shopping in sufficient numbers to sustain an online biz. Better to cut their losses than to persist down the road to perdition. |
Ignorance in action is terrifying, the posts on this thread have convinced me that out problem is EDUCATION! The number of misguided and ill informed posts here makes my eye water. |
The original post is full of mischief and half truths, lots of other things were said by both men and these quotes were taken out of context. NON of them opposed SWF and even Adams canvassed privatization of energy. Rotimi criticized the OPERATION of subsidy and his statements rather highlights the need for its removal. I wonder why the report didn't include the statements by the minister of finance at the same forum. They criticized some aspects of the economy but the also added that some issues raised predates the current government. These reporters are journalists who just want to sell papers by jumping on the FG bashing bandwagon. The deductions by NNPC and PPPRA are for PREVIOUS subsidy payments made for which FG had not refunded them. Lets try and do at least a LITTLE research before we rush to pound our keyboards. Name calling is fun but its a different matter to present REASONED arguments. |
una don forget Gabriel Okolosi? What of kenneth zeigbo? |
Best time to roof a house is when u get to ROOFING level. |
