^^ The major problem with the buhari campaign is the absolutist , intolerant air that permeated the campaign, he and his supporters have a very dangerous mindset- if you dont support buhari then you must be a clown, an idiot a fool. This is the kind of mindset that people like hitler, stalin and polpot had. Am worried that someone who was head of state 27 years ago so strongly believes ONLY he has answers to 9ja problem today. This mindset is what I refer to as the messiah syndrome and is not far from despotism. Buhari may be honest and incorruptible (financially) but he carries waayyy too much baggage- perceived arrogance (right or wrong) the hubris of not allowing acn to produce a veep and the perception that he is a "northern" candidate, have all conspired to diminish his candidacy. His antecedents like not appearing before the oputa panel and some of the mistakes during his time as head of state(decree 4 and 2 essenco decree etc) are albatrosses around his neck. In addition, he is up against a formidable opponent, the PDP's reach is second to none in Nigeria- the party has a presence in EVERY LOCAL GOVERNMENT (this was before even the 1999 election) while the then APP (now ANPP) and AD(now AC?) where busy aligning and realigning in 1999 PDP was opening offices in every nook and cranny of Nigeria ( no surprise when you have old hands like sule lamido in your fold). The sad truth is that jumping from one party to another did not help buhari's course(ANPP in 2003 and 2007), no one can form a party 2 years to election and hope to win a presidential election. Also the loud silence from him in between election seasons was a fatal error. like i said before, election is not the world cup or Olympics where you only make noise every four years. Fact is that Buhari will lose this election (he may even know this deep down) but the real question is what becomes of CPC? will it grow to become a national party or will it die with buhari's ambition and how will ACN fair? will it be reduced to a "yoruba" party or will it grow to a truly national party? Those are the key questions as for this elections they should forget it and look forward. They lost the elections before 2010 even. |

Sagamite is comedian, papa ajasco, baba suwe, samanja, a clown, a joker. The owners of this forum must love him, he keeps threads alive and it helps convince advertisers! Make una leave the guy abeg. Resorting to insults is a mark of low ability to advance arguments and poor knowledge of the issues on ground, the man na the male version of kobojunkie (waiting for the inevitable flood of insults) |
whether we like it or not defeating PDP will take TIME (assuming the party doesn't react to these results by improving) It is the ONLY party with an office in EVERY local government in Nigeria! That kind of grassroots reach will take some beating. For me once the election is free and fair then even a PDP win is acceptable. I don't believe it MUST be party A or B, people want to feel respected as citizens and to know hey have a say even if the majority may have their way. |
This forum is a joke! A circus, am watching it purely for laughs.1000 conflicting results! A lot of people have turned Nland to an alternate reality and somehow convinced themselves that it is the final authority, were "enlightened" people are. This elections have exposed how unreasonable a lot of us are, we are even more intolerant than the politicians we condemn and insult with so much big big grammar. A former PDP member decamps to another party, defeats a sitting PDP legislator and people are happy? The whole election has been reduced to "remove PDP" which is not the only issue. We should engage the political process more intelligently and be more circumspect. Am not a PDP supporter, the political process is more involving than mere elections. After this all the "activists" and "opposition" will go to sleep for another 4yrs. Democratic change is not the World Cup, you cant achieve it by making noise every 4 years, its an ongoing process. There are about 120,000 polling units in Nigeria how people "declare" a winner from results of 2 or three is beyond me. This trend will get worse next week because it will take longer to collate and ONLY the INEC chairman can dclare the results. This forum will be fun next week, I will make sure i have enough popcorn and beer. |
just to clarify: The INEC chair has NO business announcing any result as he is not the returning officer. State RECs CANNOT announce results. Only the returning officers in each constituency can announce. RECs are returning officers for GOV election while Jega is returning officer for Presidential. System was ignored in the past with INEC head qtrs announcing results of NASS elections. This cn only be done under exceptional circumstances. |
d boy don try, just land him a fine (£5-£10k) and either donate it to a charity of his choice or use the money to organize a party for the team. |
omo alaro:You have a point BUT it may not be completely rue that they can read and write arabic. Some can read and write in Hausa which qualifies as literate in my view but as per arabic most only have an understanding as far as reading the Koran goes. They have not really extended it to secular reading and writing. Case in point where a riot broke out in the north years ago because a student was seen tearing up the "Koran". It turned out it was just an electrical appliance instruction manual written in arabic! The rioters obviously didnt realise arabic is also a secular language. Few can read and write in arabic outside religious use but its not widespread. Hausa literacy is more widespread not arabic. |
snowdrops:Stop spreading rumors, ballot papers have arrived. Elections were postponed because the RESULT SHEETS only arrived the country on Saturday morning (without result sheets there is no legal proof that elections are valid) . So as at now ALL documents are on ground. |
Below is the partial lyrics of the track "ORIGINAL SUFFER HEAD" by Fela Kuti released in 1982: Water, lighti, foodu, housi,- water, lighti, foodu, housi ye kparipka o, (wetin do dem) wetin do dem ehen (wetin do dem) you mean you no know (wetin do dem) I go tell you, when I tell you, you go hear am- dat means to say you no dey for nigeria be dat, you se yoursef you no dey for africa at all-(@ kobo) you must dey comu from london from new york from brazil from germany from frankfurt, from spanish from portugal from romu from italy from arabia from moscow and chicago. If you dey for africa where we deyy u go know (i go know wetin) you go know (i gonknow wetin) plenty aboutu wateeerrr lightiiiii fooduuuu housiii, The song goes on to detail power shortages, lack of housing and food. This was in 1982! Your case is worse than people who comu from london, you were not even born then! Like i said before- LEARN IN SILENCE! |
^ at least you beginning to sound a bit civil, thank heavens for that. Sorry am not a "links" person just tell me you were ALIVE under Buhari and try to debunk my post. If not please Learn in silence. |
mrjingles:I have made my point a long time ago ma. Your last reply really sums it up doesn't it? Our conception of knowledge are worlds apart. You don't have a clue about any of the books and your lack of real knowledge is painfully obvious. Keep posting but restrict yourself to things you actually KNOW. @ Aletheia please leave this keyboard warrior, exposing herself without even knowing it. |
You always ROTWATEVA to cover up your lack of knowledge, usually when there are no links to copy and paste. The retort- "I know enough to know, " is usually a defensive mechanism for people who really don't know anything. *sigh* Let me recommend one that will suit your taste: SOZABOY: A Novel in Rotten English- Ken Saro-Wiwa |
The Man Died-Wole Soyinka You must set forth at Dawn-Wole Soyinka At least you have HEARD about HIM am sure. |
^^ am sorry kobo but you are in DIRE need of enlightenment. Knowledge does not come from browsing websites and posting links. You may sometimes need to read those little things called BOOKS. I will recommend the following: The Seven Sisters: The Great Oil Companies and the World They Shaped-Anthony Sampson Confessions of an Economic Hitman- John Perkins The Arms Bazaar-Anthony Sampson This House Has Fallen:Nigeria in Crisis- Karl Maier Chain of Command- The road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib- Seymour M Hersch. The World is Flat- Thomas L. Freidman Read them and understand the world of geopolitics and some history. Its not all about copy and paste ps: you can find the books on Amazon ![]() |
I don VEX! HOW IN THE NAME OF GOD CAN ANYBODY ANY SANE PERSON CLAIM "THERE WAS NO BLACKOUT IN 1983" "POWER WAS NOT A PROBLEM IN 1983" Whoever claims that must have been born in 1988 or is totally MAD! How many of these "enlightened posters" were actually ALIVE during that period? Please ask your parents when these words became popular in Nigeria:HOARDING, ECONOMIC SABOTEUR; ESSENTIAL COMMODITY (ESSENCO), PRICE CONTROLS, FOREIGN CURRENCY TRAFFICKING (READ FOREIGN CURRENCY POSSESSION- IT GOT FELA A JAIL TERM) NIGERIAN NATIONAL SUPPLY COMPANY. SOLDIERS BREAK INTO WAREHOUSES OF BUSINESS MEN WHO REFUSED TO SELL THEIR PRODUCTS BELOW COST AND SHARED OR BURNED THEM (THEY WERE "ECONOMIC SABOTEURS" NIGERIANS WERE QUEUING FOR RICE MILK AND SUGAR!!! QUEUING LIKE WAR TIME GERMANY AND COMMUNIST EUROPE! IF YOU STORE KEROSENE IN YOUR HOUSE (AS LITTLE AS 20 LITRES) IT WAS "HOARDING AND ECONOMIC SABOTAGE" (MY DAD WAS ALMOST ARRESTED FOR THAT, HE HAD TO BRIBE THE SOLDIERS . UPE DIED UNDER BUHARI, IT WAS DURING HIS GOVT THAT PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS STARTED PAYING SCHOOL FEES(=N=5) YES THAT WASNT A TYPO FIVE NAIRA.Excuse my caps but I am seriously P.I.SSE.D OFF when people who did not go to school when there was NO INTERNET pound their keyboards, post useless links and try to pontificate on matters they neither understand nor can properly analyse. I don't support GEJ or BB or NWA!(una know them?) If want to campaign for BB GEJ or RPG go ahead but please DO NOT EVEN TRY TO ATTEMPT TO VENTURE TO REWRITE HISTORY AND "ANALYSE" THINGS YOU DONT KNOW DIDDLY SQUAT ABOUT. OBJ, SHAGARI, BUHARI, IBB WHOEVER, YARDua, GEJ have one thing in common-THEY ALL PROMISED US POWER BUT WE NO SEE AM so none of them has a leg to stand on. ps: if ANYBODY AS ME FOR LINK ABOUT THE ABOVE U GO RECEIVE SLAP! I LIVED THROUGH IT |
^^ am sorry but what has bluelabs being "dubious and not delivering on projects" got do with whether their IP rights have been infringed upon? They are owing you money and the case is in court, what relevance does it have to the issue on ground. Merely having a case in court does not have ANY bearing on this matter. Protection of IP rights is a very important part of creating a progressive and innovative economy so am surprised this has been reduced to a political issue. Bluelabs is using a powerful weapon to pressure CPC/BUhari to discuss compensation- potential political embarrassment. They are using every leverage available to them. whether it is ethical or moral is a different argument but it surely isnt illegal. |
Shocking responses. Good policy, other countries spend billions patronizing local businesses to keep their people EMPLOYED. FG is not saying mr dele and yunusa shd buy Nigerian products, they are saying WE as the FG will patronize made in Nigeria products which will keep Nigerians EMPLOYED (I believe one of the key responsibilities of any serious govt is to create JOBS). Whether timing is right or wrong is irrelevant. Anyone who says this idea is bad either totally hates the president or is dangerously ignorant. PS: I am NOT a supporter of the president's candidacy. |
^^ Thanks for proving my point. BTW baileys, smirnoff and stout sounds good (I doubt the strength though, I prefer stronger stuff) I will sample it this evening. ![]() |
This is a DIALOGUE OF THE DEAF, I am surprised at the level of vitriol expressed, the intolerance displayed by both sides. How can we criticize our politicians when we are no different in our attitudes? NL has become IL- INSULTLAND! both camps- BB and GEJ are absolutists in view and see only black or white. Disagreeing without insult and invectives is a mark of civility and so far we have failed do so. In my opinion resorting to insults, name calling and abuse of the type I am seeing on ALL threads related to this elections betrays a lack of capacity for REASONED debate, arguments over IDEAS and PRINCIPLES. We don't all have to agree (indeed we shouldn't all agree, thats dangerous) but we surely can disagree in a more civil and reasonable manner. The irony is that we claim the NLand (sorry ILAND) crowd is hip and enlightened, if this is "enlightenment" then this country is in BIG TROUBLE! What we have here is a failure to communicate people. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH |
vocalist:Even though your post isnt clear, I think its safe to inform you that "golden" Enyeama is injured. He surely will be a missed. Ethiopia will huff and puff but eagles will blow them away, eagles wont play too much "team" football but thier class and experience will make the difference. |
I usually do not comment on political issues but it seems this thread is now the "airport or no airport thread" IMHO if you want to open up he country for economic activities, building airports alone will not address the problem. If you want to transport light cargo then air is ok (am not sure running a giant cargo plane would be viable intra country) For really serious movement of goods and services cheaply you simply cant beat rail! Consider moving fuel, one cargo train can move equivalent of 20 33k litre trucks (600k litres at once!)- same goes for cement, steel, industrial minerals, bulk wheat, etc. Movement of heavy goods would be cheaper by rail (we do it by road currently). There is no silver bullet, we need a solid rail system, good roads and airports, arguing for only one is myopic. soft products and perishables may need air transport but heavy goods and durables should be by rail or truck abeg. For me any country serious about development MUST have a solid TRANSPORT SYSTEM (rail road air and water), Solid EDUCATION SYSTEM (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Vocational) a Solid JUSTICE/ SECURITY SYSTEM (Police, Armed Forces, Judiciary) Solid HEALTH SYSTEM ( Primary, Secondary and Tertiary) and of course the almighty ENERGY SYSTEM (power supply, fuel supply, gas supply etc) We dont focus on the SYSTEMS but on only one part at a time (Give us electricity! Build airports!) and we can NEVER move fwd that way. That's my two bits. |
Basics007:So you think a company that operates in 75 countries accross 5 continents and is the second largest brewer by revenues will go into a $100million investment without doing analysis that recognises the security risk in Nigeria? So its you on this forum that will "inform" them why the project will fail? Oga understand things before you talk please. |
@ Kazala, Tolu is right, you should stop asking questions that are easy to resolve. If you are planning to undertake any activity the first and obvious step is to search the net and ask questions only when you cant find answers. Your comments show youve not done any research worthy of the name. |
^^Had to break it down to avoid confusion. I take it you agree with me, unbelievable! Deejay sees good in me! o praise the Lawd! ![]() |
Kulutempa I've read the link but you miss my point. I am referring to using the CAPM to value government bonds not corporates, the govt bond your trying to value is itself the rf rate-circumlocution. Besides, the major weakness of CAPM is the belief that it can be used to value ANY asset while in practice it lends itself only to equities because the beta of a bond (corporate or sovereign) would be difficult to determine since the market portfolio for bonds has no representative index. The reason is that bonds mostly trade over the counter and given the myriad issues of bonds, constructing a market portfolio would be too expensive to be worth it. The inability to observe and measure a true market portfolio is the reason why it is used mostly to value equities due to the ease of using a stock index as a proxy for the market portfolio. CAPM assumes you can value ANY asset with the model (including real estate, commodities etc) but this is clearly impractical for same reason you cant use to value bonds- observing and measuring the market portfolio is impractical. Lets separate theory from realistic applicability. Why go through the pain of valuing bonds with capm when better and more reasonable approaches abound. Better use a YTM or relative price approach than using a an appraoch that looks good on paper but cannot be applied in practice. |
CAPM is used to value equities not debt, whether in a portfolio context or not. A simple analysis of the CAPM formular would show why you cant use it to value debt. U need a risk free rate (rate on govt bonds) to determine the security value. So if u want to use it to value bonds you will have to go in a round about way,(get beta security value etc) and ur result may not make sense since it is theoretically unsound. Discounted cashflows, YTM, etc are better methods both in practice and theoretically so kulutempa your not exactly correct. |

This thread seems to be riddled with individuals trying to show how much they know (or do not know as the case may be) Thanks to the clarification we at least know that the coupon rate for Ghana and Gabon were higher so the official who claimed "better rates" wasn't ignorant per se. Secondly the purpose of the bond must not be forgotten- its to set a benchmark for Nigerian eurobonds and enable the building of a yield curve so investors can properly price risk. The domestic market already has a good yield curve and it is enabling the growth of the corporate bond sector with the recent issues by Flour mills and UAC with more in the pipeline. This issue is indeed puny but its purpose was clear and future issues both corporate and sovereign can now have a benchmark with the difference in yields determined by tenure and risk perception. As to whether it was successful or not I think we need to put it in perspective. If the objective was to test the waters and set a benchmark rate then this has been achieved. It would have been worse if it was under-subscribed then it would really have been a flop. As per the reasons for some not investing because of ECA depletion, we conveniently forget that that ECA is illegal and there is a bill for a sovereign wealth fund to replace it which for me makes sense. I rest my case. |
elowa:bros am sorry o! no vex abeg. It was just too outlandish to be believed and the clever guys did not publish it on their site. This is a typical black swan men! But i dont understand how that can happen, do they mean to tell us that these papers are handed to a third party? One wld expect a CFA staff to pack the thing in a Ghana must go and fly straight to yankee. Omo CFA fall hand o! So wats the way forward now? |
elowa:My friend this is a serious thread and we don't entertain comedy or people who trivialize serious matters, Nland is for all but u must respect simple rules of decorum and proper conduct . There is no reason to believe this outrageous and ridiculous allegation. The least you can do if this is true is to post a link to CFA website. If you don't have that kind of evidence then make urself scarce. If you want to clown around then show some maturity and start a clownish thread on the jokes section and stop bothering us pls. We are serious people here. |
