Why una dey shout? Union members are extending professional courtesy to a leading exco member. They are endorsing one of their own because he has proven he can "PERFORM" on the job. They are willing to "STAND BEHIND" their man all the way to the bitter end! After all the man is so good they "CANT SIT" and watch him fail. grin
CareerRe: Welcome To My Office by mrjingles(m): 9:18am On Jan 11, 2011
Everybody has to be vigilant as far as this pension issue is concerned, There is a case of a microfinance bank that went bust after 4yrs of operation and the staff discovered that not a kobo had been remitted to any of their accounts. My recommendation is the same as that of former president Ronald Reagan:"Trust, but verify" After all this is Nigeria where over 40billion in DB funds vanished and nothing happened. Make una shine eye o!
PoliticsRe: Fuel Scarcity Gone For Good - Nnpc (talking In Its Sleep?) by mrjingles(m): 10:07am On Jan 07, 2011
@ Akainzo, you left out the most crucial element- deregulating the prices, NO ONE will invest lost of cash in building a refinery only to have fixed or regulated prices. THATS the main reason why the new refineries have not come up. The recovery of outlay is not clear and profitability is dependent on someone else determining prices and not the market. Secondly when u say devolve ownership of the crude to the IOCs what do you mean. The projects are usually JVs or PSC so each partner sells its share of the crude using its own mechanisms. Am no expert in this area but i think thats how is should work, so a bit confused by your point on devolution.

@ Jenifa, US did not "get rid" of their manufacturing as you claim, China seized it from them due to low cost and high quality. American economists have been decrying the loss of manufacturing jobs for decades so it has nothing to do with pollution. Simple economics of comparative advantage.

PoliticsRe: Pat Utomi On Utomi And Volkswagen Of Nigeria by mrjingles(m): 3:11pm On Jan 04, 2011
Ibime:
Hmmmmmm. . . . Utomi wants Nobel prize for suggesting what the layman knows?
You fail to situate what he is saying in the stream of time. In the 80s when he mooted this idea NO ONE IN AFRICA and most parts of the world where thinking in that direction. We were trying to leapfrog from mostly primary agro products and raw crude to high end manufacturing. It was a tragic error in judgement. If we had gone low tech like utomi suggested we would have built on this and improved. Taiwan and China only proved it was a good plan. That is why you can smugly say that it is what a "layman knows" At the time it was pure Nobel worthy stuff. It would serve us well to retrace our steps to that template his idea is STILL the way forward.

AjanleKoko:
The man was ahead of his time, tragically, and still is. Nigeria won't elect men like him, rather we will elect morons and brutes who are easy meat for the imperalists who want to keep despoiling the continent.

blank:
All these he is saying is "after the fact". I am sure while he and other executives were killing d company, he didn't think dat one day he will have 2 account 4 his failures. I wonder why some people can't just admit when they have made a mistake. Remembers, dey are typical politicians.
This statement is regrettable. People that should be hailed as great thinkers are being put down by keyboard experts, who cannot even understand the crux of the matter. No respect for solid minds, that's the tragedy of Nigeria, our history has been lost to beer parlour arguments and younglings who get their history from hints magazine, encomium and city people. Big shame.

If a list of foremost Nigerian intellectuals and thinkers is ever compiled he would feature high up on it. But of course we don't do such things in this cash and carry, corruption promoting, mediocrity celebrating, morally bankrupt american tv addicted  country

stupid post. Topic can NEVER be decided by empirical objective evidence, it would only bring out the sexist in most of us. This is a "beer parlor" argument that wld never end. A thoroughly tenuous and useless question that shdnt be discussed by any reasonable person. I don go jare.

This leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Just bloody politics (smart though). All these "patriots" and "experts" complaining about the tolls dont have a clue. Una go come forum dey make emotional and uninformed posts. Only Nigeria people want the good things and are not willing to pay for them. PS: I live in lagos.

RomanceRe: Have You Ever Cheated? by mrjingles(m): 3:40pm On Dec 20, 2010
This thread should be called "hypocrites unite"! Everybody is queuing up to proclaim their sainthood. Na wa o! tomorrow we will be on this same NL insulting politicians and leaders. What a pity! Faithful partners are a verrrryyy rare occurrence.

Statistically Nigeria has more females than males so if we match one to one we should have many unattached females, but you hardly meet a girl who does not have a man in her life, also if you analyse by gender, a higher proportion of males would be guilty, so who is fooling who on this thread? Given the very broad definition of cheating by the OP the number of positives should be higher than what am seeing here. The statistics am seeing on this thread are impossible! NLanders!Make una dey fia God.

PoliticsRe: "CBN Steals More Than We Do"---senate President by mrjingles(m): 6:59pm On Dec 15, 2010
Lets be clear on some simple facts- CBN is an AUTONOMOUS, SELF FUNDING INSTITUTION, its NOT a parastatal as some believe. Second CBN REMITS 75% of operating surplus to FG every year (Thats profit to the layman) this runs into billions annually. How many FG institutions raise money to cover operations, and realise gains at year end? CBN has always published audited accounts and they are available on the public record. the balance sheet size is over 1trillion naira. Mark is a misguided ex coupist and shdnt be taken seriously pls. The exponents of "accountability" should start with institutions who have NEVER presented any audited financials (not even the jibiti audited by auditor general).
CareerRe: Rich Dad Poor Dad - An Impractical Book by mrjingles(m): 1:15pm On Dec 13, 2010
AjanleKoko:
@OP,
The book is good, and there are a lot of practical lessons to be learned there. In my opinion, it's very applicable in Nigeria.
Just like housing is not affordable to the masses here, it's also not affordable to the masses in America. Do you think everybody owns a house there?
I think the major points emphasized are what you need to focus on, stuff like:
- You can never get rich from earning a salary in most cases. Kiyosaki even used his dad as an example, who worked and got to the highest level of his profession, but died in debt.
- The key to getting rich is understanding how money works, i.e. cash flow. Same applies in Nigeria.
-Every market has its own dynamics. Kiyosaki used real estate examples. The same applies to people who have speculated on stocks in Nigeria, and made millions. I know a lot of people who did that. Yes, the stock market is dead, but so is the real estate market in America.

Essentially I think you need to focus on the fundamentals, and look at what you can apply to your own life. For me the book only confirmed my thoughts about how money works: it's essentially the same as we learned in secondary-school economics.
bros uve spoken my mind, I had always suspected there's a game on as far as money was concerned and reading his books was my "aha" moment. It doesn't teach "WHAT TO DO" to make money, more of "HOW TO THINK" to  make money- principles not
specifics.

I agree completely with kiyosaki on the need to revamp education, imho a decent start wd be to make basic law accounts and economics compulsory regardless of your course of study.
CareerRe: CFA Candidates In The House by mrjingles(m): 7:37am On Dec 13, 2010
1. Get an approved calculator
2. Register for the exam (you will receive 6 volume curriculum)
3. Obtain review notes and videos (schweser or stalla)
4. Obtain question Bank (schweser or stalla)
5. Design a practical study schedule (about 20-30 hours a week)
6. Start reading (some prefer reading the review notes while using the curriculum as reference, it could work if you have a finance background but if you dont u may want to read the curriculum before reading the notes)
7 Solve a lot ( I mean a LOT) of questions
8. Pray a lot too! smiley
9. Repeat 6-9 as many times as you can before exam day.

that a rough outline, each person has their style so you may adapt.

SportsRe: Russia To Host 2018 World Cup, Qatar to Host 2022 by mrjingles(m): 1:35pm On Dec 03, 2010
The quotes above reveals how desperately naive the england bid team was. Did they REALLY expect a FIFA delegate to tell them how they would vote? After all the scandals surrounding them? So what did they expect? the delegates told them yes and then said no to ALL the other candidates? wouldn't that be another scandal? stupid! No wonder they were getting all excited about how their bid was "gaining momentum" over the last few days. IMHO they were NEVER in the running. FIFA had probably decided to 'go east' from the get go and it might stay there if china decides to bid for 2026!

SportsRe: Russia To Host 2018 World Cup, Qatar to Host 2022 by mrjingles(m): 8:03am On Dec 03, 2010
For all the glitz glamor and hulabalooo, FIFA vengeance and all that, the facts are these:

England's was not the only losing bid, so whats all the hoopla about?

England's bid was DOA because the plan was to expand the frontiers of the WC so their bid along with spain and other 1st worlders was not the TYPE of bid needed.

come 2030 England should wait for China to declare and if China does declare they should quietly drop out because China WILL win. The size of the yet untapped China market and the political clout (nobody does backroom deals better than the chinks) will be too much for ANYBODY to beat. FIFA might even OFFER China the hosting rights!
