@goshen, Churches except the Orthodox one are all registered as Private Concerns, call it NGO's if you will but it has an owner, CEO and Board of Trustees. In most cases the CEO is also the G.O, he makes all the big decisions including Rotating and Firing of Officers in this case Pastors. The Organizations is set up according to the vision of the Founder who is also the G.O. jedisco: For the Anglicans, their Bishops and Arch Bishops are elected/Chosen by Council Of Bishops. The Rt.Rev can on stay in Office Bishop for not more than 10years after which he must Retire. |
Religion / Re: The African Atheist by mrmayor(m): 1:52pm On Feb 21, 2012 |
To express unbelief as an African in Africa is, well I don't think there are any real words to describe that African. I lost the only woman I truly, totally, ever loved because of my Unbelief, she couldn't handle the fact that I don't want any church wedding, that I won't be leading early morning prayers, going to church or watching multiple Christian channels. |

I go to my Village very often, travelling from PH to the many Mangrove Fishing Villages that dot Rivers State is fun, I actually look forward going to Fishing villages not just my own. erico2k2: Ok, you may disagree with me but I think you are missing my point here, I've also done my own bit of travelling. Let me expalin using the recent Subsidy Protest ala Occupy Nigeria. During the fuel protest many wondered why there was little or no protest in Rivers State especially Port Harcourt, the " Better Informed Diasporan" would have you believe Ijaw people by extension Rivers people didn't join because of Ethnic reasons but for those of us on the ground, those who are actually living in PH know the real reasons why PHC was calm. I may see a news headline and ignore it as not important when I see the News platform that is reporting that event based on the local knowledge I may have about the paper, the owner, the Editor etc but a Diasporian would lap on it sharing on Facebook and other Social Media. |

I have a couple of questions 1. Tried going to your website but it's offline, any reason for that? 2. Are the Soft Drink machines new or reconditioned? Thanking you. |

Mr Negro_Ntns, I think the post got it wrong to say ICJ while I think he meant to say International Criminal Court. ICC Negro_Ntns: ICC at a glance The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The ICC is based on a treaty, joined by 120 countries (effective as of 1 February 2012). The ICC is a court of last resort. It will not act if a case is investigated or prosecuted by a national judicial system unless the national proceedings are not genuine, for example if formal proceedings were undertaken solely to shield a person from criminal responsibility. In addition, the ICC only tries those accused of the gravest crimes. In all of its activities, the ICC observes the highest standards of fairness and due process. The jurisdiction and functioning of the ICC are governed by the Rome Statute. Please note that Nigeria is a Signatory to the Statue of Rome. @Nwaori, Nwaori: I'm assuming you are Igbo by going by your name, are you actually saying this, govt has the right to wipe a clan just because a few among committed criminal acts? Politics / Re: Do We Nigerians Really Live In Less Than One Dollar Par Day ? by mrmayor(m): 9:20pm On Jan 30, 2012 |
This my 2 bottles of kaikai, I just paid my Mai guard/Security man today right here in Port Harcourt, I pay him exactly the minimum wage of 18k/ $120/ not because its a living wage but it is what I can comfortable afford for now with all the responsibilities that I have. Mr David (Security man) has a wife (petty trader) and five children all under the age of 16yrs. Rent ( I Bedroom) 7 sharing = 5000 Transport ( Bus) 50 per drop , 100 to and fro x 6 days = 600 x 4 weeks. = 2400 That leaves about 10,600/$70 for feeding of 7 people per month! Its just crazy. I don't know what his wife brings, so my input is based on the 18k I pay him. I sincerly believe and know that there are people who earn less than my Mr David, they stay with friends sharing 1 room to make ends meet, many can't afford to educate their children, last year I paid Mr David's children school fees to relieve the pressure from him but many are not so lucky. |

Typical example of Muslim killing for no reason By Associated Press, Friday, January 27, 3:37 AM KINGSTON, Ontario — Evidence against three people accused of killing half their family over reasons of honor is “irrefutable,” a prosecutor told jurors Thursday in closing arguments. Laurie Lacelle told the jury that Afghan-born Mohammad Shafia, 58, his wife Tooba Yahya, 42, and their son Hamed, 21, were responsible for planning and carrying out the murders of their four family members. 3 Comments Weigh InCorrections? She urged the jury to find all three guilty in what the prosecution has alleged was a quadruple honor killing of Shafia’s three daughters and his other wife in a polygamous relationship. The parents and son, Hamed, have pleaded not guilty to four counts of murder and defense lawyers told the jury in closing arguments the evidence suggests the deaths were an accident. The accused allegedly killed the daughters because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and going online. The fourth victim was Shafia’s first wife who was living with him and his second wife, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, 41, in Montreal. The polygamous relationship, if revealed, could have resulted in their deportation. Police made a grisly discovery in the summer of 2009 in canal locks east of Toronto: In a submerged Nissan car were the bodies of three teenage sisters and a 52-year-old woman. The prosecution alleges it was a premeditated murder, staged to look like an accident after it was carried out. “Shafia, Tooba and Hamed had decided that there was a diseased limb on their family tree,” Lacelle said. “Their decision was to trim the diseased limb and prune the tree back to the good wood.” But defense lawyers told the jury in closing arguments the evidence does indeed fit with the deaths being an accident. The court has heard evidence that it appears the four made no attempt to escape the car through an open window, and the bodies were found eerily suspended inside. Defense lawyer Peter Kemp suggested that’s plausible in an accident scenario. Kemp has told the jury that there are too many unknowns to be able to convict the accused, saying the jury doesn’t know where or how the alleged murders happened. Lacelle presented wire taps and cell phone records from the Shafia family in court. In one phone conversation, the father says his daughters “betrayed us immensely.” The wiretaps, which capture Shafia spewing vitriol about his dead daughters, calling them treacherous and whores and invoking the devil to defecate on their graves, were a focal point of the trial. But defense lawyers argued that at no point in the intercepts do the accused say they drowned the victims. Fazil Javad, Shafia’s brother-in-law, said Shafia tried to enlist him in a plan to drown the oldest daughter. Judge Robert Maranger will give the jury final instructions Friday. Closing arguments lasted well into the evening Thursday after a bomb threat earlier delayed proceedings. Police Constable Steve Koopman couldn’t say if the security threat was related to the Shafia trial. The family had left Afghanistan in 1992 and lived in Pakistan, Australia and Dubai before settling in Canada in 2007. Shafia, a wealthy businessman, married Yahya because his first wife could not have children. The months leading up to the deaths were not happy ones in the Shafia household, the court has heard. Zainab, the oldest at 19, was forbidden to attend school for a year because she had a young Pakistani-Canadian boyfriend, and she fled to a shelter, terrified of her father, the court was told. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/americas/closing-arguments-conclude-in-canadian-honor-killing-trial/2012/01/26/gIQAH4BDUQ_story.html |

Port Harcourt is quite, Banks, Schools, Govt offices remain closed. No Protest Anywhere. The allegation in town by Human Rights Groups and it's all over the airwaves is that Labour Officials collected money from Amaechi after visiting government house yesterday and called off the Protest that was supposed to take of from Isaac Boro Park. They ( NLC/TUC) distributed money to people gathered at the start up point to go home and observed the strike. The shameful thing is the NLC secretary was on radio to say yes they gave money for " Pure Water and Transport"! The remains Heavy Security presence, shops and markets are backing in business. No Fuel except at NNPC stations, transport fare if high. |

I'm Anti PDP, I voted for GEJ out of sentiment. GEJ is right on this one. I will use Rivers State as an example of how State Police could be abused. In October 2007 Mr Celestine Omeha was governor of Rivers State after K-Leg elections, till he was kicked out of office by the Supreme Court and the Police (Federal) were instructed to provide Security for Rotimi Amaechi to be installed as governor. Just imagine for once, if Omeha refused to vacate Brick House because he has the backing of Rivers State Police, do you send in the Army and Navy to install Amaechi? Imagine Alao Akala with State Police with Thug Marshall Adedebu as State Security Adviser (SSA) EFCC couldn't arrest Ibori because some hooligans prevented it, imagine Delta State Police under Ibori/Uduaghan! You will need Delta Force to arrest him |
