Rijo02: Nice one MsNas.......I took my time to read through ur posts via the link Slimmy gave it. It was really nice, funny and enlightening. Hope you enjoying studies.
Regarding the money issh (Naira to dollars), I got to settle with obtaining mine from my bank (Fidelity) at 158 rate with my Visa and flight document. When I arrive the US, I will open an account and then deposit.
Thanks for u the info.
Yeah, that's another option. But be careful with it and don't let those Shylocks called Nigerian Customs and Immigration sight it at the airport. If you're carrying $10,000 and above please declare it at the American Customs and Border Control. My friend (we fly from Naija together), had like $15,000 and didn't declare it tho. She put it in her pants (I swear, I'm being serious). She didn't declare nada. cheesy Risky but hilarious cheesy cheesy

slimmy05: I smilled when I read the post. The bank with the best exchange rate so far is access bank. GTbank are crooks in their exchange rates. Exchange rates are not static, they fluctuate over time. I remeber when I went to cash some dollars in 2012, at the counter the guy said the exchange rate was 151. Before I finished filling the rubbish form, I got to the counter and it rose to 156 grin. I smild plenty.

The beat way to use their card is the money order purchase and cash returns outlined by MsNas. Swiping cards at 3$ aint wise at all.
If you had money transferred to you from Nigeria and you wanted it in your American account (say you wanna pay your school fees with it, cos some schools don't accept International cards and because exchange rates flunctuates like crazy), this is what to do...

Go to Walmart Money Center. Tell them you wanna buy money order. Money Order is charged at the rate of 70c where I live. But with money order, you can only put $1,000 on each money order at most. So, let's say you wanna withdraw $5,000 from your Nigerian card, you buy 5 money orders worth $1,000 each. The total amount you pay for the money orders will be 5X70c. That's $3.50 for drawing $5,000.

This is what I do whenever I wanna transfer funds from my Nigerian account to my American account because using the ATM isn't a viable choice.
1. Most ATMs have a limit of how much you can withdraw from it everyday with a card. It's most times capped at $1,000. So if I had $5,000 to withdraw, I have to do it over a period of 5 days.
2. Asides the fact that GTBank (that's my Nigerian bank) will charge me #420 for using my card on an ATM, the bank you're using its ATM will also charge you like $5 for using their services. 5X5 is $25. Excluding the GTBank charges oo. I'm not an Ijebu Lady grin but i don't subscribe to wasting my meagre funds.

One other thing: you might even find some stores that sell Money Orders for cheaper prices than Walmart. There's a store where I live called Kroger, its a super-store just like Walmart and they sell their own money other for 54c. I go there most of the time because its even closer to my house than Walmart.

Edited: after you buy the money orders, take them to any branch of your bank and tell them you want to deposit them into your account. Most times it clears almost imediately. But I live in the Bible belt, folks are kinda racist. They don't believe a young black female can have such amount. The first two times I did it, they actually asked me where I got the money order from(to ascertain it was genuine). When I told them Walmart, they called Walmart and verified if indeed I bought the money order from them. Who cares undecided. Still at that, it took 2days for the Money Order to clear and reflect in my account. Others might be luckier.

ridimic1: pls is MSC in information technology different from MSC in computer science.. pls is MSC in information technology different from MSC in computer science.. pls is MSC in information technology different from MSC in computer science..
Yes, it is different. With Msc Computer Science, you learn more about computer hardware and operating systems (You will do a lot of coding and systems development and Mathematics). A masters degree in Computer Science is focused primarily on the theory behind computational applications. You study the principles of computing and how you can better a computer's performance to solve problems.

Msc Information Science leans towards the application of Computer systems to solve problems. It teaches you to how to utilize the hardware and software developed by Computer Scientist for application in real life scenarios. With Ms IT, you do a little bit of everything (Coding (programming), Database Management, Shell Scripting, Web Development and Project Management).

So, if you wanna do something really techy and write a lots of algorithm and theorems, apply for an Ms in Computer Science. If you will like to apply those algorithms into building DBMS, Websites, Script Unix Shells etc, apply for an Ms in Information Technology.

timpal: Good evening house,

Please i want to know if the GRE Physics Subject test is administered in Nigeria.

Thanks for the responses.
I logged in to answer your question.

Yes, the GRE Subject Test (Physics) is done in Nigeria. I was supposed to take it too, because I was initially planning on getting an MSc in Physics. The test is taken three times a year (April, September and October), and is administered on paper (PBT). Test centers are in:

1. Dority International School, Aba. Abia State.
2. Debyl Limited, Benin City. Edo State
3. Gieva, Lagos.

Might I ask, which schools are you applying to that requires you to take the subject tests? Many schools don't. At least I know two or three people who are doing their PhD programs in Physics and they never had to take any more tests than the GRE General Test and sometimes TOEFL. The Physics subject test is a pain in the bum (excuse my language).

So, except if your funding chances depends on it and the school ranks really high, I will advise you to look for more options. All the best.

Motamma I see you're viewing this thread. You can change sponsors and fill out your DS-160 as many times as possible before you go to the embassy.

It's the DS-160 you're holding when you get to the embassy that you'll get interviewed with. So yes, go ahead and fill another one. Hope that helps smiley

Afam4eva: I was shocked when i saw that post. Those states in the South actually having the highest percentage of blacks in the entire US.
Shocked is an understatement. I had to check the figures online again to see if I was missing something. cheesy I live in the south, and 60% of the black here will tell you they're from Mississippi if asked
TravelRe: USA Or England: Which Is The More Racist Country? by MsNas(f): 4:29pm On Jan 01, 2014
imperiouxx: looooooools! You dey mind that one with poor knowledge of what he claims. Let him go to Jackson, Mississippi and see black planet. It's just like Lagos or the whole of Nigeria with scanity whites. You'll hardly see whites because the whites have moved to Madison, Mississippi, which is the next urban area to Jackson.
Loool. He probably hasn't stepped on the shores of America not to talk of setting foot in the south.

Louisiana (especially New Orleans), Tennessee (Memphis), Texas (Houston, Dallas, Austin) Alabama, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri........ all southern states have a HUGE black populations. Jackson, Mississippi as you said is is black planet cheesy
TravelRe: USA Or England: Which Is The More Racist Country? by MsNas(f): 4:17pm On Jan 01, 2014
bakynes: I lived in the UK for quite a while bt when the OP talks abt UK or do u mean England? If its the UK generally places like Scotland, wales,Nothern Ireland and North of England like Northumbria,Jordie area (Newcastle/Sunderland) they don't get to see blacks once in a year so when we went there on a field trip they were looking @ us like Aliens, I mean me and some other black coursemate, likewise in the US states like missisippi,Kansas and other Southern states ( forgive me for the spelling) u might equally find little or no blacks nt even African Americans too. Bt like many have said on this thread British pple are more reserved they won't tell u to ur face bt u will read it in their countenance dat they don't like u coz of d colour of ur skin bt the yanks will tell u to ur face they don't like u coz they are more rugged.
Mississippi, Kansas, Arkansas, (all southern states) have a HUGE black population. Mississippi has a very HUGE black population. The say I went to North Little Rock in Arkansas and saw the huge black population, I marveled.

So sir, your figures are incorrect
