stevecrun: Thanks miss..
UCA frustrate me,they say my waec no too reach their cutoff..they still send me emails till now even when they chop my 50usd and never offered me admission.

Thanks once again, miss Nas,glad we are friends once again..
You're welcome. And we were always friends smiley

UCA are notorious for doing that to applicants. Lol. Probably because they offer a generous scholarship, they will nitpick everything on your application. You got your visa now, so screw them. Enjoy your moment of exhilaration, my brother.

I don't know the steps you have to take per se, but I know you can definetely transfer your SEVIS record. Send an email to
fmjfee.SEVIS@ice.DHS.gov
OR

Mail to:
SEVP
ATTN: SEVIS I-901 fee CRU
Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
Department of Homeland Security
500 12th Street SW Stop 5600
Washington, DC 20536-5600

Request for them to transfer you SEVIS fee from the old school to the new school. You have to quote the old SEVIS ID and the new one too.

Modified:
I got the what I quoted below of the SEVP website. I hope it helps.
Put Fee Transfer in the subject line of your request. Give us your name, date of birth, the SEVIS ID number that you originally paid on and the SEVIS ID number you want to transfer the payment to, as well as a current, valid address Explain why the fee needs to be transferred. It will help speed your request if you include a copy of your receipt number. Include information on how to contact you if there are any questions.
SEVP will review your request and determine if the fee can be transferred. If your request is approved, you will receive an email or letter indicating that you can now print your updated I-901 payment confirmation at www.fmjfee.com reflecting the SEVIS ID from your new Form I-20 or DS-2019.
When you apply for any benefit where the SEVIS I-901 fee will be verified, you will need to provide a copy of the updated I-901 fee receipt.

Slimmy05,

So sorry about the delay. I guess the rules have changed at the embassy now. Try go your school and talk to them at academic affairs or the Registrar's office. Maybe they can give you a letter to the US Consulate or something. Either way, this was not you fault. Pele.

oyero1: bro Juntod,VOs dnt av d right to deny on d level of low GRE score, even if u r a 1st class student, if admission has been given wit d score...d only problem ds bro has is d switch of major which might lead to a conditional admission n dt is wht a vo wud nt want to see....FYI. sm students get funding wch such scores...I rest my case.
Who told you VOs don't have the right to deny anybody based on GRE scores? FYI. Once you're in front of any VO you are at their MERCY, they don't even need to tell you why they are denying you. All they need to hand over to you is the section 214(B) generic paper. The only thing you can do to get a visa from any VO is for you to convince them that you deserve the visa. And they reserve the right to give you or not.

Do you even know the meaning of conditional admission? Conditional admission is not given to only students who have a low undergrad GPA but to students who have to satisfy some prerequisite conditions before they can be admitted to candidacy at the Graduate College. Yours truly had a conditional admission, not because I had a low GPA or low GRE score but because I was a Physics major and I made a switch to IT. Therefore I had to take undergrad Computer Science classes before I was admitted to candidacy. Once I took the classes and passed, the condition was taken off my file. Go on my profile and read my visa transcript, the VO didn't even ask me what kind of admission I had. Conditional or not.

Lastly, pray do tell. What good school will give funding to someone who has a GRE score of 270/340?? You kidding right? Why would a student who worked his/her butttt off in college to get a first class have a bad GRE result, bad as e bad? Or do you think graduate funding is given on first come first served basis? You have to apply for these stuffs. They take into consideration your GPA, GRE, Application letter and in some cases (My school and also KU), TOEFL scores. There will be lots of people in the pool of applicants will scores that will make you hide your scoresheet in shame.

Mystiqme: My understanding of GRE percentiles, though, is that 135 would land him in the 5th percentile (using your example), meaning he did better than only 5% of the students. That is the interpretation of a percentile. Where does the 40 come from?

Now that's why I thought you were using percentages. On the percentile scale, I agree with you, his score is not good.
Moro grin, I guess he got the 40 from the 230-270. Which leaves 40marks. On percentile scale and score scales the results still ain't good. Most grad schools won't even consider you for admission with that score.

oghenegano: Thanks brov....so wut do u advice me on the cos aspect....Geology and goin for Computer information science and takin a major in Geographic Information Science
To be honest, your GRE score was terrible. The lowest you can get on the GRE test is 260/340 and you have 270/340. That's hardly above the lowest score. But all is not lost. You had a good undergrad major, you're going for an equally good grad major and you had a good undergrad GPA. The way you sound your story to the VOice is what matters at this point.

GIS is a good part of CS, but it hardly comes close to CS. It's more Geography than Computer Science. Find a way to make a story that is interwoven between CS, GIS and Geology. Do you have any funding? What school are you headed to?

Lastly, why the heck did you leave Geology for Computer Science? You know Geologists are in high demand over here and they get them big bucks right? Sometimes or most times sef, they even get paid higher entry level wages than the IT guys. All the best in your interview.

The environment, students, student life, academics and health was in its all time lows during my stay.
The only thing that sustained me was Spirituality. I was closest to God than any other time in my entire life.

Students? Environment? Academics? All time low? Lies. You probably spent 100L or PDSP at the school, what else were you expecting? BTW, you're the first person I've heard saying Lautech Academics sucks. What year were you there? Except you were there in the early 90s which was when the school was first founded, I might say the student life sucked then. But 2000s, hell NO.

LoveDecay: dude, i got my GRE print out from my account - the address is fixed switched it to my home address as is on all my documents. Just want to know if the da.mn print out will suffice ! I got toefl waiver - school said my grades on english GRE beat the cut-off so no toefl (gt 149 , skl nd 146).

Thanks for info on the admission letter, my school sent me a scanned copy which has my name as is on my passport. As for the scanned copy on file -- eeh i think i will pass on that , already sweet talked my way to a GA job, housing, partial scholarship ... any more favor will have to be requested in person - my program director has warned me ooooooh !

10-4 on the ticket.

As for how my names worked out on other documents - the admission letter came first 'duhh ! So, it was easy to get other name to stick. I think they were using the name on my transcript - from Uni. (that document only has 50% of my names grin)

And, YUP CUA is a private catholic institution - the only catholic institution of higher education endorsed by the Holy SEE in Amelicah. I could not go to madonna so this is my consolation prize .

Abeg how fr with the chick matter, my course go hot ooh - i need somebody to mummy me ooooooh (no white chicks cool)
There's no need to be snide. You asked questions and i answered you based on what you wrote. You said you had TOEFL and GRE waiver. and that was what i answered.

And why would a school work with the names on your transcript and not the name on your Passport and also the name on the application for admission that you filled out? Or why do you think a school will always ask for the data page on your passport when you're sending you supporting documents? I don't get. How does an admission letter comes first before the admission packet? In my own experience and many other experiences, the admission letter comes with the admission packet. The only thing most of these institutions send a scanned copy of is the I-20.

Why would your program director warn you not to ask for any favors again? Reallyhuh Strange.

Which one is Holy SEE? Does that have an effect on your visa approval? You never mentioned you that you had a tuition waiver before, so how am I supposed to figure that out? You asked questions and I answered you. And I also mention that it was my opinion. Take it or leave it. You don't have to take heed to anything I've said.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by MsNas(f):
LoveDecay: Abeg house, help a brother ooh.

I got admission to CUA Washington and Clark in Boston For M.A in IEDM and IDCE respectively. I chose CUA.

These are some issue's i need advice on:

I only have a soft copy admission letter my school sent, never received the hard copy. Eventhough, i recieved a copy with my i-20 it looks really rough and the name does not correspond with my i-20 or school documents like my housing confirmation , gre and toefl waiver.

My GRE is also a soft copy not the hard copy - only Jesus knows what the guy who registered me put in the address section.

Do i need to go with a flight reservation, i have been working with my old man ever since service ended as assis.admin manager in his coy. But not collecting any salary - the boss gives me cash whenever i need it (no questions asked grin) if the v.o raises a question about my salary - is this a big deal.

PS - Any fine Nigerian Girls (color white) schooling in Wash. preferrably for Masters - that can cook ? cry

I can only cook indomie and fry eggs ooooh......... Jesus i go suffer oooooooooh
First off, CUA is a Catholic private Institution. And you said you got a GRE and TOEFL waiver. That sounds like a bad idea (to me at least). The VO would think you wanna cut corners by applying to a private institution(they are known to accept almost all their applicants), and you didn't even bother to take any standardized test to solidy your claims of being a genuine student.

Your case is further compounded because of the irregularities on your admission letter. Most times, VOs don't ask for it. Heck, I didn't take mine along with me to the embassy. But you never can tell, you might be asked to produce it. How do you explain the name difference? Also, how did the school manage to screw up the name on your admission letter and not on all other documents? Did you get the admission through an agent? You should be really careful because something isn't right.

You can print out the online copy of your GRE result online and take that to the embassy. Or better, you can email the international office at your school and request them to send you scanned copy of your GRE result that they have on file. That also is something. What happened with the address on the GRE result though?

The American Consulate has always warned applicants against making any financial commitments (booking flights or paying school fees) before visa approval. This is because you are not guaranteed a visa. So taking your flight itinerary or ticket of any kind will not affect your chances positively or negatively in any way. That I'm sure of. Go with faith. smiley

Dot1: I can't give a definite answer as to why this is so. But lemme try explain wot I think. M.Eng was designed strictly for people that want to work in d industrial sectors, hence justifying the dense practicals they do during their study programs. Itz strictly course-based and most projects are done as a group just as in B.Eng. But for MS in Engineering, most of the researches are done singly with the help of your supervisor. You also submit a thesis & defend it. Those prepare u for your PhD which requires thesis writing and defence. Also, PhD is an individual effort, which translates to the fact that with an MS certificate, you are ready for the forthcoming challenges that come with ur PhD.
PS: just as I noted earlier, itz just my thot & itz disputable.
Yeah. I get that now. Kinda. Lol
