Excuse my ignorance.

I would like to cover my cement block fence similar to how the fence in the image is covered. Are there green, creeping plants indigenous to Nigeria that I can use?

You're comments are much appreciated.

Block pillars are more cost effective than concrete pillars of the same dimensions and standard mix (say M15 concrete strength). For six inches block fence, I prefer block pillars of section 450 x 450mm, filled with with concrete. With configuration like in the sketch below.
I see. So, no gap in the fencing for block pillars. One continous fence with blocks on both side every 10ft or so to create the pillar. Does that correctly describe it?

Spyder, I want to achieve the look in the fence below in a few years. Not only do I love the look, it will save me money (I think). Besides capping the top, do I need to plaster the blocks? I hope the answer is no.

You're welcome.

If you're building in Ibadan and not inside an established estate, DO NOT leave the land fallow without fencing and gating it.

The omo oniles in Ibadan are the very sons of anarchy angry

This is what I'm going through right now, some asshat surfaced and said his father owns 10 acres there including my land. Now, this is with fence and house. Imagine if there was no fence, then I would return to find a structure on my land. This repeats itself all over Ibadan.

Oh, how I wish this happened in the US.
I was told upfront that I will deal with hoodlums of a different type. Not omo oniles, but those asking for prayer money. The owner of the land lives, literally, a stone throw away from my land. He said a few bottles of booze and they will leave. We'll see...

Clearing of the land is imminent and fencing will begin immediately after.

Yes, exactly like that. I used 6" blocks because I was fencing 100 X 125" plot.

Hajj has used 6" and Spyder880 too, just as reference.
Thank you.

I did block pillars. Concrete pillars will be stronger of course and required in areas with bad soils like Lekki and Ikorodu.

One thing I wished I did was sandwiching two blocks to make a pillar. Love the look and will retrofit later.
Do you mean like the image below? Pulled from this discussion -

Did you use 6" or 9" block for your fence?

Poured concrete pillar vs Block pillar for fencing

What are the advantages/disadvantages of both? I've been looking on the site at how fences are constructed and saw both methods being used without documented reasoning.

Your replies are much appreciated.

Also after much deliberation, the architect has brought the cost down to 1.9M. I think this is a fair amount and as such I'll go ahead with the foundation. Hopefully work should start on Monday and I'll provide more pictures as things evolve.
Wow. How did your architect find nearly #400K in savings from his original quote?

What are the dimension's of one building? The numbers are illegible.

Looks great. Good luck.

I agree. The tile work is amazing. shocked

I don't quite understand why grout lines are in between the faux wood tiles. Seems like it defeats the purpose. Those tiles are mimicking wood floors but you're letting everyone know they are tiles by including the grout.

Hi all,
I just did german floor (21.425m x 10.400m) for my house. Now I want to to do the flooring/german floor for the compound (9.600m x 4.600m)
How much do you think I will spend for materials and labor? What about labor for fixing PVC ceiling a twin 3 bedroom flats (6 rooms in total) all in Ibadan?
That's a couple meters off my diminsions. How much was the german flooring for your house, if you don't mind sharing?

Good morning house. Reply needed urgently.

I want to do a cost comparison with what I am receiving on ground.

What is the approximate cost to fence a land measuring 30 X 30 X 31 X 36 meters?

Just a rough estimate is good thank you!!!
I've been told to clear my land (dimension above) will be around 175K. Its virgin land so there are trees, bushes, and boulders.

Anyone willing to beat that estimate? The land is in Iyana-Abagla, Ibadan.

I think I'll stop wu/mg

Last week, aaboki sold dollar for as low as 340 and we normally use 4k to send $1k abroad to our shipping agents, so solving the maths, it's 344 per dollar, d option is way better for now cos wu is 358
When you say "WU" do mean Western Union?

olawale100:
@MSogunro

The cost

***This is a rough calculation.

The perimeter of the piece of land is 30 + 30 + 31 + 36 = 127 meters.

Roughly, you will have 40 regular pillars and 2 big pillars for the gate.

The length of a block is 18 inches which translates to 0.45 cm

Leaving out 4 meters for the gate, you have 123 meters left.

123 / 0.45 equals 273.33 per coach. If you are going to have 10 coaches, for blocks alone, you will need 2800 (making provision for wastage)

2800 times 170 (cost of block) N476,000
Bricklayer charges about 50 naira to lay one block, therefore labour cost estimate is 140,000

You will also need between 80 and 90 bags of cement @ 1650 = N148,500
If you have to buy water, that will be about 8k for a water tanker
You will also need about 1 - 2 trips of 15 tonnes sharp sand (for the block setting alone)

More sharp sand trips will be needed if you will be casting the base and the pillars

That is just the beginning.

depending on the terrain you are building, you may need to do a raft (either I or an inverted T)

The cost implementation will vary, so more details is required.
Because this will involve iron rods, labour charge for iron bender, formwork by carpenter or formwork rental (steel shutters)
Woods, nails, binding wire

This is just a guide. More details is needed for more accurate estimate.

Regards
Thank you very much for the info.

Wha area or state is your rough estimate based ?
