Crime › Gun Explosion Killed Three Children In Taraba – Police by NaijaCover(op): 8:46am On Apr 01, 2024 |
The Taraba State Police Command has stated that three children died in Didango Geita village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state following a suspected “accidental discharge” from a dane gun.
The State Commissioner Of Police, David Iloyonomon, stated this while refuting claims made by some villagers who attributed the deaths to an explosion from Improvised Explosive Devices, Channels TV reports Sunday.
Iloyonomon stated that the gunpowder from the dane gun later exploded and killed them.
The CP said the three deceased children were playing on a tree while four others who sustained injuries were on the ground, as they are receiving treatment at the state specialist hospital in Jalingo, the state capital.
The CP said, “One Danjuma Audu gave the information to the police that there was an explosion which resulted in the death of three youngsters and injury to four others.
“On the receipt of the information, we deployed the anti-bomb unit of the Nigeria Police Force who rushed to the scene, conducted a professional and thorough search and discovered that no exhibit is related to dynamite or IED recovered from the scene.
“Instead, they recovered pellets from a Dane gun which was evident in the bodies of the casualties and suspected to be responsible for their death.
“Since there was no assailant, it is suspected to be an accidental discharge.”
The police boss noted that the scene of the incident has been condoned, and investigation has commenced to unravel more facts.
“Further findings by the E.O.D unit revealed that the three pallets recovered are used in conjunction with gunpowder to prepare ammunition for Dane guns.
“Thereafter, we went to further to interview Danjuma Audu, who reported the incident to the police. He revealed that the three children that died were the ones on top of the tree in the farm, while the other four that were on the ground sustained injuries.
“That’s a very clear evidence to show that it is not an IED explosion, because if it were to be IED or dynamite explosion, those children on the ground and on the tree would have been shattered beyond recognition,” Iloyonomon stated.
The CP identified the three deceased children as Miracle Danjuma, 11; Liyacheyan Bitrus, 12; and Kefas Bitrus, 11.
The other four who sustained injuries include Joseph Danjuma, 8; Leah Aluda, 8; Godbless Hassan, 7; Christian Hassan, 7. Source: https://punchng.com/gun-explosion-killed-three-children-in-taraba-police/

Crime › Confusion As Man Dies In Car During Good Friday Service by NaijaCover(op): 8:35am On Apr 01, 2024 |
There was panic on Friday after a middle-aged man identified simply as AJ was found dead in his car at Mechanic Village in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased was attending the Good Friday service in a church located in the area when the incident happened.
The late AJ, who was a member of the church, reportedly stepped out while the service was ongoing to pick up something in his car which was parked on the premises.
An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said another member who saw him in the car some moments later, exchanged pleasantries with him but did not get a response.
The curious member was said to have moved close to him and in the process found him motionless in the vehicle.
The source said, “He said he wanted to pick up an item in the car, but nobody really noticed he had not returned to join the service. One of our members who was passing by his car saw him in a sitting position and greeted him but found out that he did not respond. The person said he moved close to him and jokingly asked if he was tired as a result of fasting.
“It was at that point that he discovered that he was not moving at all. So, he quickly alerted other members who rushed out of the church to see what was going on. Efforts were made to revive him, but he was already foaming from his mouth and that was when we realised he was dead.”
The incident was said to have caused apprehension in the community while the church service ended abruptly.
According to the source, the wife of the deceased, who was also present during the service, was quickly attended to by other female members who consoled her.
“It was a sad day for us because nobody saw that coming. We could no longer go ahead with the service. We prepared refreshments for members that day, but no one could eat. We also tried all we could to console his wife,’’ the source added.
Another source, a mechanic, who gave his name as Lukmon Salako, and claimed to have visited the Mechanic Village to fix the customer’s car, said members of the church were moody after the incident while the female members were seen consoling the wife of the deceased.
“I came to fix my customer’s car in the mechanic village when the incident happened. The members were all moody. The wife of the deceased was also sitting on the floor while the female members of the church were consoling her.”
“His body was carried in his car to the nearest hospital where he was said to have been confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Salako added.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said he was unaware of the incident.
He said, “I am not aware.” Source: https://punchng.com/confusion-as-man-dies-in-car-during-good-friday-service/

Crime › Man Kills Childhood Friend In Ondo, Steals His Motorcycle, Sells It For ₦130,000 by NaijaCover(op): 7:28am On Apr 01, 2024 |
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, Dolapo Babalola, who allegedly killed his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin, 34, stole the deceased's motorcycle and sold it to a buyer in Ibadan for N130,000. The Suspect and his accomplice, Sikiru Mutiu, who is at large, committed the offence on March 15, 2024, in Ondo town. Babalola, who confessed to the crime, said he and Mutiu deceived the deceased to take them to Oke-Igbo, a few kilometres from Ondo town, to check a piece of land. On getting to the land, which was situated inside a bush, Sikiru grabbed the deceased from behind while Babalola, struck him with a stick and stone until he died. Police said the suspects dragged the corpse to a shallow pit and covered it with leaves before making off with the motorcycle. The family of the father of one lodged a complaint with police after efforts to locate his whereabouts proved abortive. Detectives swung into action and arrested Babalola at his residence in Ondo town, headquarters of the Ondo West Local Council Area of the state, after the tracking of the call logs of the deceased. Babalola, who spoke after he led the police to the spot where the victim was dumped, said he regretted killing his close friend and blamed the devil. “It’s the work of the devil; I can’t explain because this person that we are talking about is my close friend. Truly, his bike is not the first I will ever snatch, but I have never killed one before. Even those that are not related to me, I snatched bikes from them, and I did not even do anything harmful to them,” he said. "At least I have snatched about 15 bikes, but I have never killed before. His own is the first; my buyer is in Ibadan. But we sold this one at the rate of N130,000, and we share the money equally because we are two in the business. "When we intended to collect the bike from him, he dragged it with us, and I hit him with a stone. I know his mum and younger brother. I can’t really explain why I killed him. I am a trader. I sell oranges, but I don’t have a shop. I do go to villages to buy oranges. I am from Oyo State, Ibadan, precisely. But I reside in Ondo town.” The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abayomi Oladipo, who led detectives and medical personnel to evacuate the decomposing body of the deceased from the pit where it was dumped, said the suspect has a large syndicate and that efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang. “He has snatched an uncountable number of motorcycles. Through technical intelligence, the suspect was arrested and upon interrogation he confessed to how he committed the crime,” the CP stated. “I want to use this opportunity to alert the members of the public, most especially those who ride Okada to be careful of the passengers that will engage their services to far areas and take them to isolated roads. “Also, I want to say that the residents of this area, especially those who farm here since on the 15th of March, when this incident happened till date, kept mute which is not supposed to be. So what we are saying is that if you see something you must say something."
