Bendeco2020:
I can't defend evil. But this kind of report is just hyping the issue.

They can specify the area or lga e.g; Abaji residents of Abj living in fear not FCT residents.

Saying FCT residents means that the whole Abj have been taking over by bandits which is not true.

I will assure you that if you step foot to the main town you may not return to your residential state or city again because Abj is calm.
Seems you are right. All my paddies that visit naija say they prefer Abuja bacause of its calm peaceful nature, nightlife etc. Low traffic too. They also claim safety. That elsewhere, the time they spend on traffic jams is horrible.
I think the insecurity is limited to the outskirts.

You cannot blame them jare the biting poverty in that country ehh no get part 2. Imagine just waking up and sleeping with no future prospects.
8 years ago I picked up a family from that country, omo I weak, they were pointing to roadside tomato, meat sellers etc calling out their parents to see food. Pointing at buildings with stone coated roof, apparently very few buildings have such in that country and by the extremely rich ie those mainly based overseas.
In a society with poverty, jobless youths etc, cheap drugs will take over associated with increased crime rate.

Also, we are yet to see your stance on Anti female, insultive, degrading comments and threads, because if you notice, most male tend to term women generally for the offence of one, and as a result of that, most of us rarely comment like before, pls look into it.

do oyinbo have a proper market structure to accommodate both the rich and poor? Do they have a decent car park and a wider street? Ur ansa will solve all these. Leadership is the bane here.
They actually have markets, stalls, shops etc, you then have those without shops that place their goods on the streets shop owners then have to extend their ware from the shops to the road proper to compete.
Bottomline, because police officers are supposedly poorly paid does not give them the right to extort people, if the job is not OK they ought to resign, the fact youths are unemployed does not give them the right to turn to robbery, the fact a wife does not give the hubby kpekus does not justify him knacking the house help etc just as government not dashing people shops does not give them the right to intrude on roadways.

Sir, chill.

Let's say the traders are very stubborn. But ponder on this. Can they afford to rent a shop? If no, what alternative has the govt provided for them poor traders to sell and fend from? Back in the days we had open kiosks in every market for these traders to sell. Markets are built at far distance from the road. It's your govt and it's official that will build very close to the roads just to make more money. The city plan is designed just to make money and not look beautiful. Don't blame the poor who are trying to survive.
Trying to survive should be done within the law. Drive through oyinbo and see whole tarred streets blocked.

Na them way.
I once had cause to call two young men, one Yoruba and the second igbo. Fine boys from good homes.
I noticed them mixing with some Agege boys. Everytime back then you see them with bottles if cough medicine, mixing it with farouz at my bar. Different kinds of smoke and mixtures.
I remember I told them I had concerns that they were going astray. I told them, see, our head is different from those abokis own. What they can carry, our own head cannot. They thanked me for the advice and I left them.
Today, one has gone to rehab several times, saw him yesterday. He is OK now but still has a loose screw. Life has moved and left him behind. The second guy I saw about 6 years ago, he greeted me, I could not recognize him, skinny with like 5 teeth in his mouth! Omo that one, I wonder if he is still alive today.

Gradually he got his senses back.

An average Nigerian on the streets is still waiting for FDI to add more bundle to the liabilities of $7billion. Nigerian economy needs emergency diversification from oil and gas into other productive sectors such as the technology industry (the backbone of the 21st century economy). Remember that NLNG has also been securitized.
Where is the electricity to diversify?
Just to power our smaller generator of 80kva, not the 120, 350 kva, we bought 300 liters yesterday, by this evening we had to get another 300l. Guess what? Diesel is 1k per liter. All the work is just to pay the diesel supplier.
2 days, 600k to power Gen set. How much is the revenue? Alternative is to shutdown and throw people out of work.

Shikena:
I was actually digging into this and about to make my post when I saw yours.

This is directly related to crude oil PRICE TREND. Obasanjo's time coincided with over 100% uptrend in oil price that peaked during Yar'adua's time. GDP appeared to maintain a trailing trend with this. Oil price crashed towards the end of GEJ's tenure.

Diversification is key. GDP's definition is clear, we need a departure from over-reliance on oil export. We can't keep paying lip service to this with basic minimum of efforts to address it. We cannot be running a container economy or keep frustrating efforts to boost our GDP. We as Nigerians need to be clear on what we want. We can't eat our cake and have it!
See, during buhari's time, apc in general, let crude oil be $1000 per barrel, there will still be excuses and impoverishment. Give them the economy of Sweden, Qatar, Germany and they will still produce the same result in 6 months.
Are you not aware our crude production dropped to 700k bpd under buhari/apc? We could not meet our opec quota of slightly over 2m bpd. Few people in a cabal were stealing more crude than the rest of the country was sharing. It took Obi to call them out.
Our problem is corruption, and nothing more. Abi did you not hear of "tunde" having 1.5 trillion in just 1 account, to the extent Emefiele had to protest that his own was too much, yawa will gas. Have you not read recently how over 30b was paid into one man's companies from the agency feeding school children? 30b ohh, not million.
Politics › Re: Nigeria's Highest GDP Rate (4.21%) From 2015-2019 Was Our Lowest (1999-2015) by nedekid: 3:34pm On Jan 04, 2024
Some have said it time without number, nothing good can come out of that evil name, APC, but people, despite their daily impoverishment, will still root for the same apc.
9 years ago if your earned 100k, you now need minimum of ₦1.1m to live the lifestyle you had back then.
We bought 300l of diesel yesterday evening to run a 80kva generator, 10mins ago, they just informed me the tank is at 25% and we need to order another 300liters.
1l is ₦1000.
Even dstv cannot afford to pay nation cup rights to air. Why? Their revenue is reduced due to devaluation and Nigerians cannot afford to pay the proper fees for subscription.
Don't worry, one day, some day Nigerians will finally have sense.
